Secular Instability and the Turning-Point Principle for Rigidly Rotating Viscous Stars

We study axisymmetric stability of rigidly rotating viscous stars modeled by the free-boundary Navier--Stokes--Poisson (NSP) system. The unstable index of the linearized NSP generator, counted with Riesz algebraic multiplicity, equals the Morse index of the augmented energy at fixed mass and total angular momentum. We prove an abstract Kelvin--Tait--Chetaev theorem for damped gyroscopic equations with finite negative stiffness index, requiring no compactness assumptions and no spectral gap at zero; the stiffness kernel may be infinite-dimensional. In the NSP application, the viscous dissipation is degenerate: its axisymmetric kernel, generated by rigid axial translation and rigid rotation, is projected out before applying the abstract theorem, while conservation laws and a Routh reduction transfer the resulting instability index back to the full NSP generator. For slowly rotating branches with fixed total angular momentum, viscous instability begins at the continuation of a first nondegenerate spherical mass maximum. By contrast, for every sufficiently small nonzero angular momentum, the corresponding Euler--Poisson star remains axisymmetrically spectrally stable on an interval beyond this maximum. Thus dissipation can destabilize a rotating star before the corresponding inviscid star becomes unstable. This separation of the stability thresholds results from viscous redistribution of angular momentum, which removes the inviscid constraints on its material distribution while preserving its total value.

Slow uniform rotation reduces the critical adiabatic exponent for the stability of gaseous stars

We prove that any sufficiently slow uniform rotation stabilizes the supermassive star under axi-symmetric perturbations, and the stability persists for every adiabatic exponent in a left neighborhood of the mass-critical one. The key new ingredient of the linear analysis is a structural property of the self-similar family inherited from the mass-critical scaling: the associated self-similar direction becomes a reduced kernel direction of a modified linearized operator.

Summarize Before You Speak with ARACH: A Training-Free Inference-Time Plug-In for Enhancing LLMs via Global Attention Reallocation

Large language models (LLMs) achieve remarkable performance, yet further gains often require costly training. This has motivated growing interest in post-training techniques-especially training-free approaches that improve models at inference time without updating weights. Most training-free methods treat the model as a black box and improve outputs via input/output-level interventions, such as prompt design and test-time scaling through repeated sampling, reranking/verification, or search. In contrast, they rarely offer a plug-and-play mechanism to intervene in a model's internal computation. We propose ARACH(Attention Reallocation via an Adaptive Context Hub), a training-free inference-time plug-in that augments LLMs with an adaptive context hub to aggregate context and reallocate attention. Extensive experiments across multiple language modeling tasks show consistent improvements with modest inference overhead and no parameter updates. Attention analyses further suggest that ARACH mitigates the attention sink phenomenon. These results indicate that engineering a model's internal computation offers a distinct inference-time strategy, fundamentally different from both prompt-based test-time methods and training-based post-training approaches.

Turning point principle for stability of viscous gaseous stars

We consider stability of non-rotating viscous gaseous stars modeled by the Navier-Stokes-Poisson system. Under general assumptions on the equations of states, we proved that the number of unstable modes for the linearized Navier-Stokes-Poisson system equals that of the linearized Euler-Poisson system modeling inviscid gaseous stars. In particular, the turning point principle holds true for non-rotating stars with or without viscosity. That is, the transition of stability only occurs at the extrema of the total mass and the number of unstable modes is determined by the mass-radius curve. For the proof, we establish an infinite dimensional Kelvin-Tait-Chetaev theorem for a class of linear second order PDEs with dissipation. Moreover, we prove that linear stability implies nonlinear asymptotic stability and linear instability implies nonlinear instability for Navier-Stokes-Poisson system.

Dynamical magneto-rotational instability

Magneto-rotational instability (MRI) is an important instability mechanism for rotating flows with magnetic fields. In particular, when the strength of the magnetic field tends to zero, the stability criterion for rotating flows is generally different from the classical Rayleigh criterion for rotating flows without a magnetic field. MRI has wide applications in astrophysics, particularly to the turbulence and enhanced angular momentum transport in accretion disks. For the case of vertical magnetic fields, we give rigorous proof of linear MRI and a complete description of the spectra and semigroup growth of the linearized operator. Moreover, we prove nonlinear stability and instability from the sharp linear stability/instability criteria.

Integrated Sensing and Communications Framework for 6G Networks

In this paper, we propose a novel integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) framework for the sixth generation (6G) mobile networks, in which we decompose the real physical world into static environment, dynamic targets, and various object materials. The ubiquitous static environment occupies the vast majority of the physical world, for which we design static environment reconstruction (SER) scheme to obtain the layout and point cloud information of static buildings. The dynamic targets floating in static environments create the spatiotemporal transition of the physical world, for which we design comprehensive dynamic target sensing (DTS) scheme to detect, estimate, track, image and recognize the dynamic targets in real-time. The object materials enrich the electromagnetic laws of the physical world, for which we develop object material recognition (OMR) scheme to estimate the electromagnetic coefficient of the objects. Besides, to integrate these sensing functions into existing communications systems, we discuss the interference issues and corresponding solutions for ISAC cellular networks. Furthermore, we develop an ISAC hardware prototype platform that can reconstruct the environmental maps and sense the dynamic targets while maintaining communications services. With all these designs, the proposed ISAC framework can support multifarious emerging applications, such as digital twins, low altitude economy, internet of vehicles, marine management, deformation monitoring, etc.

Integrated Sensing and Communications in Clutter Environment

In this paper, we propose a practical integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) framework to sense dynamic targets from clutter environment while ensuring users communications quality. To implement communications function and sensing function simultaneously, we design multiple communications beams that can communicate with the users as well as one sensing beam that can rotate and scan the entire space. To minimize the interference of sensing beam on existing communications systems, we divide the service area into sensing beam for sensing (S4S) sector and communications beam for sensing (C4S) sector, and provide beamforming design and power allocation optimization strategies for each type sector. Unlike most existing ISAC studies that ignore the interference of static environmental clutter on target sensing, we construct a mixed sensing channel model that includes both static environment and dynamic targets. When base station receives the echo signals, the mean phasor cancellation (MPC) method is employed to filter out the interference from static environmental clutter and to extract the effective dynamic target echoes. Then a complete and practical dynamic target sensing scheme is designed to detect the presence of dynamic targets and to estimate their angles, distances, and velocities. In particular, dynamic target detection and angle estimation are realized through angle-Doppler spectrum estimation (ADSE) and joint detection over multiple subcarriers (MSJD), while distance and velocity estimation are realized through the extended subspace algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and its superiority over the existing methods that ignore environmental clutter.

Nonlinear stability of non-rotating gaseous stars

For the non-rotating gaseous stars modeled by the compressible Euler-Poisson system with general pressure law, Lin and Zeng [18] proved a turning point principle, which gives the sharp linear stability/instability criteria for the non-rotating gaseous stars. In this paper, we prove that the sharp linear stability criterion for the non-rotating stars also implies nonlinear orbital stability against general perturbations provided the global weak solutions exist. If the perturbations are further restricted to be spherically symmetric, then nonlinear stability holds true unconditionally in the sense that the existence of global weak solutions near the non-rotating star can be proved.

Stability of rotating gaseous stars

We consider stability of rotating gaseous stars modeled by the Euler-Poisson system with general equation of states. When the angular velocity of the star is Rayleigh stable, we proved a sharp stability criterion for axi-symmetric perturbations. We also obtained estimates for the number of unstable modes and exponential trichotomy for the linearized Euler-Poisson system. By using this stability criterion, we proved that for a family of slowly rotating stars parameterized by the center density with fixed angular velocity profile, the turning point principle is not true. That is, unlike the case of non-rotating stars, the change of stability of the rotating stars does not occur at extrema points of the total mass. By contrast, we proved that the turning point principle is true for the family of slowly rotating stars with fixed angular momentum distribution. When the angular velocity is Rayleigh unstable, we proved linear instability of rotating stars. Moreover, we gave a complete description of the spectra and sharp growth estimates for the linearized Euler-Poisson equation.

Computer Vision-Aided Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-Based Beam Tracking: Prototyping and Experimental Results

In this paper, we propose a novel computer vision-based approach to aid Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) for dynamic beam tracking and then implement the corresponding prototype verification system. A camera is attached at the RIS to obtain the visual information about the surrounding environment, with which RIS identifies the desired reflected beam direction and then adjusts the reflection coefficients according to the pre-designed codebook. Compared to the conventional approaches that utilize channel estimation or beam sweeping to obtain the reflection coefficients, the proposed one not only saves beam training overhead but also eliminates the requirement for extra feedback links. We build a 20-by-20 RIS running at 5.4 GHz and develop a high-speed control board to ensure the real-time refresh of the reflection coefficients. Meanwhile we implement an independent peer-to-peer communication system to simulate the communication between the base station and the user equipment. The vision-aided RIS prototype system is tested in two mobile scenarios: RIS works in near-field conditions as a passive array antenna of the base station; RIS works in far-field conditions to assist the communication between the base station and the user equipment. The experimental results show that RIS can quickly adjust the reflection coefficients for dynamic beam tracking with the help of visual information.

NTIRE 2022 Challenge on Efficient Super-Resolution: Methods and Results

This paper reviews the NTIRE 2022 challenge on efficient single image super-resolution with focus on the proposed solutions and results. The task of the challenge was to super-resolve an input image with a magnification factor of $\times$4 based on pairs of low and corresponding high resolution images. The aim was to design a network for single image super-resolution that achieved improvement of efficiency measured according to several metrics including runtime, parameters, FLOPs, activations, and memory consumption while at least maintaining the PSNR of 29.00dB on DIV2K validation set. IMDN is set as the baseline for efficiency measurement. The challenge had 3 tracks including the main track (runtime), sub-track one (model complexity), and sub-track two (overall performance). In the main track, the practical runtime performance of the submissions was evaluated. The rank of the teams were determined directly by the absolute value of the average runtime on the validation set and test set. In sub-track one, the number of parameters and FLOPs were considered. And the individual rankings of the two metrics were summed up to determine a final ranking in this track. In sub-track two, all of the five metrics mentioned in the description of the challenge including runtime, parameter count, FLOPs, activations, and memory consumption were considered. Similar to sub-track one, the rankings of five metrics were summed up to determine a final ranking. The challenge had 303 registered participants, and 43 teams made valid submissions. They gauge the state-of-the-art in efficient single image super-resolution.

Existence of a martingale weak solution to the Equations of Non-Stationary Motion of Non-Newtonian Fluids with a stochastic perturbation

In this paper, we consider the stochastic %equations of incompressible non-Newtonian fluids driven by a cylindrical Wiener process $W$ with shear rate dependent on viscosity in a bounded Lipschitz domain $D\in \mathbb{R}^n$ during the time interval $(0,T)$. For $q>\frac{2n+2}{n+2}$ in the growth conditions (1.2), we prove the existence of a martingale weak solution with $\nabla\cdot u=0$ by using a pressure decomposition which is adapted to the stochastic setting, the stochastic compactness method and the $L^\infty$-truncation.
