Numerical and analytical results for geometric measure of coherence and geometric measure of entanglement

Quantifying coherence and entanglement is extremely important in quantum information processing. Here, we present numerical and analytical results for the geometric measure of coherence, and also present numerical results for the geometric measure of entanglement. On the one hand, we first provide a semidefinite algorithm to numerically calculate geometric measure of coherence for arbitrary finite-dimensional mixed states. Based on this semidefinite algorithm, we test randomly generated single-qubit states, single-qutrit states, and a special kind of $d$-dimensional mixed states. Moreover, we also obtain an analytical solution of geometric measure of coherence for a special kind of mixed states. On the other hand, another algorithm is proposed to calculate the geometric measure of entanglement for arbitrary two-qubit and qubit-qutrit states, and some special kinds of higher dimensional mixed states. For other states, the algorithm can get a lower bound of the geometric measure of entanglement. Randomly generated two-qubit states, the isotropic states and the Werner states are tested. Furthermore, we compare our numerical results with some analytical results, which coincide with each other.

Experimentally accessible lower bounds for genuine multipartite entanglement and coherence measures

Experimentally quantifying entanglement and coherence are extremely important for quantum resource theory. However, because the quantum state tomography requires exponentially growing measurements with the number of qubits, it is hard to quantify entanglement and coherence based on the full information of the experimentally realized multipartite states. Fortunately, other methods have been found to directly measure the fidelity of experimental states without quantum state tomography. Here we present a fidelity-based method to derive experimentally accessible lower bounds for measures of genuine multipartite entanglement and coherence. On the one hand, the method works for genuine multipartite entanglement measures including the convex-roof extended negativity, the concurrence, the G-concurrence, and the geometric measure for genuine multipartite entanglement. On the other hand, the method also delivers observable lower bounds for the convex roof of the $l_{1}$-norm of coherence, the geometric measure of coherence, and the coherence of formation. Furthermore, all the lower bounds are based on the fidelity between the chosen pure state and the target state, and we obtain the lower bounds of several real experimental states as examples of our results.

Quantum teleportation in terms of Dirac modes between accelerated observers

We have studied entanglement between two Dirac modes respectively observed by two independently accelerated observers. Due to Unruh effect, the entanglement degrades, but residual nonzero entanglement remains even when the accelerations of both observers are infinite. We have also investigated quantum teleportation using entangled Dirac modes, and calculated the fidelities in various cases. In general, the fidelity depends on the single-qubit state $γ|0\rangle +δ|1\rangle$ to be teleported, as well as which Bell state to use. In the limit that both accelerations are infinite, the average fidelity in using $|ϕ^\pm\rangle\equiv\frac{1}{2}(|00\rangle\pm |11\rangle) $ is $\frac{3}{4}$, while that in using $|ψ^\pm\rangle\equiv \frac{1}{2} (|01\rangle\pm |10\rangle) $ is $\frac{1}{2} + |γ|^2 |δ|^2$.

Realization of the tradeoff between internal and external entanglement

We experimentally realize the internal and external entanglement tradeoff, which is a new kind of entanglement monogamy relation different from that usually discussed. Using a source of twin photons, we find that the external entanglement in polarization of twin photons, and the path-polarization internal entanglement of one photon, limit each other. In the extreme case, when the internal state is maximally entangled, the external entanglement must be vanishing, that illustrate entanglement monogamy. Our results of the experiment coincide with the theoretical predictions, and therefore provide a direct experimental observation of the internal and external entanglement monogamy relation.

Kinetic Spin Decoherence in a Gravitational Field

We consider a wave packet of a spin-1/2 particle in a gravitational field, the effect of which can be described in terms of a succession of local inertial frames. It is shown that integrating out of the momentum yields a spin mixed state, with the entropy dependent on the deviation of metric from the flat spacetime. The decoherence occurs even if the particle is static in the gravitational field.

Triangle inequalities in coherence measures and entanglement concurrence

We provide detailed proofs of triangle inequalities in coherence measures and entanglement concurrence. If a rank-$2$ state $\varrho$ can be expressed as a convex combination of two pure states, i.e., $\varrho=p_{1}|ψ_{1}\rangle\langleψ_{1}|+p_{2}|ψ_{2}\rangle\langleψ_{2}|$, a triangle inequality can be established as $\big{|}E(|Ψ_{1}\rangle)-E(|Ψ_{2}\rangle)\big{|}\leq E(\varrho)\leq E(|Ψ_{1}\rangle)+E(|Ψ_{2}\rangle)$, where $|Ψ_{1}\rangle=\sqrt{p_{1}}|ψ_{1}\rangle$ and $|Ψ_{2}\rangle=\sqrt{p_{2}}|ψ_{2}\rangle$, $E$ can be considered either coherence measures or entanglement concurrence. This inequality displays mathematical beauty for its similarity to the triangle inequality in plane geometry. An illustrative example is given after the proof.

Genuine multipartite nonlocality in the one-dimensional ferromagnetic spin-1/2 chain

Genuine multipartite entanglement has been found in some spin chain systems. However, genuine multipartite nonlocality, which is much rarer than genuine multipartite entanglement, has never been found in any spin chain system. Here we present genuine multipartite nonlocality in a spin chain system. After introducing the definition of genuine multipartite nonlocality and a multipartite Bell-type inequality, we construct a group of joint measurements for the inequality in a one-dimensional ferromagnetic $N$-qubit chain with nearest-neighbor XXZ interaction, and many violations to the inequality have been found. The violations do indicate that genuine multipartite nonlocality exists in this ferromagnetic spin-1/2 chain system. Last but not least, we also calculate genuine multipartite entanglement concurrence in the same spin chain to demonstrate the difference and relationship between genuine multipartite nonlocality and genuine multipartite entanglement.

Pairwise mode entanglement in Schwinger production of particle-antiparticle pairs in an electric field

Quantum entanglement is the characteristic quantum correlation. Here we use this concept to analyze the quantum entanglement generated by Schwinger production of particle-antiparticle pairs in an electric field, as well as the change of mode entanglement as a consequence of the electric field effect on an entangled pair of particles. The system is partitioned by using momentum modes. Various kinds of pairwise mode entanglement are calculated as functions of the electric field. Both constant and pulsed electric fields are considered. The use of entanglement exposes information beyond that in particle number distributions.

Quantum entanglement in three accelerating qubits coupled to scalar field

We consider quantum entanglement of three accelerating qubits, each of which is locally coupled with a real scalar field, without causal influence among the qubits or among the fields. The initial states are assumed to be the GHZ and W states, which are the two representative three-partite entangled states. For each initial state, we study how various kinds of entanglement depend on the accelerations of the three qubits. All kinds of entanglement eventually suddenly die if at least two of three qubits have large enough accelerations. This result implies the eventual sudden death of all kinds of entanglement among three particles coupled with scalar fields when they are sufficiently close to the horizon of a black hole.

Decoherence and disentanglement of qubits detecting scalar fields in an expanded universe

We consider Unruh-Wald qubit detector model adopted for the far future region of an exactly solvable 1+1 dimensional scalar field theory in a Robertson-Walker expanding spacetime. It is shown that the expansion of the universe in its history enhances the decoherence of the qubit coupled with a scalar field. Moreover, we consider two entangled qubits, each locally coupled a scalar field. The expansion of the universe in its history degrades the entanglement between the qubits, and can lead to entanglement sudden death if the initial entanglement is small enough. The details depend on the parameters characterizing the expansion of the universe. This work, albeit on a toy model, suggests that the history of the universe might be probed through the coherent and entanglement behavior of future detectors of quantum fields.

Killing quantum entanglement by acceleration or a black hole

We consider two entangled accelerating qubits coupled with real scalar fields, each described by the Unruh-Wald model. It is demonstrated that because of the Unruh effect, the bipartite entanglement of the two qubits suddenly dies when the acceleration of one or more qubits are large enough. We also consider three entangled accelerating qubits in GHZ state and in W state, with equal acceleration-frequency ratio, and found that in either state, the tripartite entanglement suddenly dies at a certain value of acceleration-frequency ratio. The equivalence between the Rindler metric and the Schwarzchild metric in the vicinity of the horizon of a black hole implies that for the two entangled qubits outside a black hole, the entanglement suddenly dies when one or both of the qubits are close enough to the horizon, while for the three entangled qubits in GHZ or W state, the tripartite entanglement suddenly dies when these qubits are close enough to the horizon.
