A Hierarchical User Intention-Habit Extract Network for Credit Loan Overdue Risk Detection

More personal consumer loan products are emerging in mobile banking APP. For ease of use, application process is always simple, which means that few application information is requested for user to fill when applying for a loan, which is not conducive to construct users' credit profile. Thus, the simple application process brings huge challenges to the overdue risk detection, as higher overdue rate will result in greater economic losses to the bank. In this paper, we propose a model named HUIHEN (Hierarchical User Intention-Habit Extract Network) that leverages the users' behavior information in mobile banking APP. Due to the diversity of users' behaviors, we divide behavior sequences into sessions according to the time interval, and use the field-aware method to extract the intra-field information of behaviors. Then, we propose a hierarchical network composed of time-aware GRU and user-item-aware GRU to capture users' short-term intentions and users' long-term habits, which can be regarded as a supplement to user profile. The proposed model can improve the accuracy without increasing the complexity of the original online application process. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of HUIHEN and show that HUIHEN outperforms other state-of-art models on all datasets.

Fully gapped superconductivity without sign reversal in the topological superconductor PbTaSe$_2$

We investigate the superconducting gap function of topological superconductor PbTaSe$_2$. Temperature, magnetic field, and three-dimensional (3D) field-angle dependences of the specific heat prove that the superconductivity of PbTaSe$_2$ is fully-gapped, with two isotropic $s$-wave gaps. The pair-breaking effect is probed by systematically increasing non-magnetic disorders through H$^+$-irradiations. The superconducting transition temperature, $T_{\rm{c}}$, is found to be robust against disorders, which suggests that the pairing should be sign-preserved rather than sign-reversed.

Multi-Site Infant Brain Segmentation Algorithms: The iSeg-2019 Challenge

To better understand early brain growth patterns in health and disorder, it is critical to accurately segment infant brain magnetic resonance (MR) images into white matter (WM), gray matter (GM), and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Deep learning-based methods have achieved state-of-the-art performance; however, one of major limitations is that the learning-based methods may suffer from the multi-site issue, that is, the models trained on a dataset from one site may not be applicable to the datasets acquired from other sites with different imaging protocols/scanners. To promote methodological development in the community, iSeg-2019 challenge (http://iseg2019.web.unc.edu) provides a set of 6-month infant subjects from multiple sites with different protocols/scanners for the participating methods. Training/validation subjects are from UNC (MAP) and testing subjects are from UNC/UMN (BCP), Stanford University, and Emory University. By the time of writing, there are 30 automatic segmentation methods participating in iSeg-2019. We review the 8 top-ranked teams by detailing their pipelines/implementations, presenting experimental results and evaluating performance in terms of the whole brain, regions of interest, and gyral landmark curves. We also discuss their limitations and possible future directions for the multi-site issue. We hope that the multi-site dataset in iSeg-2019 and this review article will attract more researchers on the multi-site issue.

Option Pricing using Quantum Computers

We present a methodology to price options and portfolios of options on a gate-based quantum computer using amplitude estimation, an algorithm which provides a quadratic speedup compared to classical Monte Carlo methods. The options that we cover include vanilla options, multi-asset options and path-dependent options such as barrier options. We put an emphasis on the implementation of the quantum circuits required to build the input states and operators needed by amplitude estimation to price the different option types. Additionally, we show simulation results to highlight how the circuits that we implement price the different option contracts. Finally, we examine the performance of option pricing circuits on quantum hardware using the IBM Q Tokyo quantum device. We employ a simple, yet effective, error mitigation scheme that allows us to significantly reduce the errors arising from noisy two-qubit gates.

Achieving the depairing limit along $c$ axis in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ single crystals

We report the achieving of depairing current limit along $c$-axis in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ single crystals. A series of crystals with $T_{\rm{c}}$ ranging from 8.6 K to 13.7 K (different amount of excess Fe, $y$) were fabricated into $c$-axis bridges with a square-micrometer cross-section. The critical current density, $J_{\rm{c}}$, was directly estimated from the transport current-voltage measurements. The transport $J_{\rm{c}}$ reaches a very large value, which is about one order of magnitude larger than the depinning $J_{\rm{c}}$, but comparable to the calculated depairing $J_{\rm{c}}$ $\sim$ 2 $\times$ 10$^6$ A/cm$^2$ at 0 K, based on the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory. The temperature dependence of the depairing $J_{\rm{c}}$ follows the GL-theory ($\propto$ (1-$T/T_{\rm{c}}$)$^{3/2}$) down to $\sim$ 0.83 $T_{\rm{c}}$, then increases with a reduced slope at low temperatures, which can be qualitatively described by the Kupriyanov-Lukichev theory. Our study provides a new route to understand the behavior of depairing $J_{\rm{c}}$ in iron-based superconductors in a wide temperature range.

A short note on solving box inequality and linear equality constrained optimization problem

This paper discusses a special kind of convex constrained optimization problem, whose constraints consist of box inequalities and linear equalities. For this problem, in addition to general optimization algorithms such as exact penalty algorithm and interior point algorithm, there is a simple iterative algorithm that is simple to implement, which is favored by machine learning practitioners.

Review of annealing effects and superconductivity in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ superconductors

Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ is unique in their structural simplicity, consisting of only FeTe/Se layers, which is favorable for probing the mechanism of superconductivity. Recently, a topological surface superconductivity as well as the Majorana Fermions has been observed, which makes Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ the first high temperature topological superconductor. Since large size single crystal of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ can be easily grown, many researches have been performed. However, a large part of the reported results are under controversy, including the resistivity, susceptibility, Hall effect, gap structure, phase diagram, etc. These controversies are believed to come from the sample-dependent Fe nonstoichiometries, which originate from the partial occupation of the second Fe site (excess Fe) in the Te/Se layer. The excess Fe with valence near Fe$^+$ will provide electron doping into the system. Meanwhile, the excess Fe is also strongly magnetic, which will act as a paring breaker and also localize the charge carriers. Removing the excess Fe is essential to probe the intrinsic properties and mechanism of superconductivity of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ compounds. In this topical review, we propose the effective approaches to remove excess Fe in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$. Furthermore, we discuss the mechanism of annealing based on the evolutions of structure, composition, and morphology with annealing. Moreover, we also review the annealing effects on the normal state and superconducting properties, including the magnetism, transport properties, band structure, $T_{\rm{c}}$, phase diagram, upper critical field, anisotropy, critical current density, gap structure, and superconducting pairing. This review presents not only the optimal way to prepare crystals without excess Fe, but also the intrinsic properties of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ without the influence of excess Fe.

Quasi-particle evidence for the nematic state above $T_{\rm{c}}$ in Sr$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$

In the electronic nematic state, an electronic system has a lower symmetry than the crystal structure of the same system. Electronic nematic states have been observed in various unconventional superconductors such as cuprate- and iron-based, heavy-fermion, and topological superconductors. The relation between nematicity and superconductivity is a major unsolved problem in condensed matter physics. By angle-resolved specific heat measurements, we report bulk quasi-particle evidence of nematicity in the topological superconductor Sr$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$. The specific heat exhibited a clear 2-fold symmetry despite the 6-fold symmetric lattice. Most importantly, the 2-fold symmetry appeared in the normal state above the superconducting transition temperature. This is explained by the angle-dependent Zeeman effect due to the anisotropic density of states in the nematic phase. Such results highlight the interrelation between nematicity and unconventional superconductivity.

Escaping from saddle points on Riemannian manifolds

We consider minimizing a nonconvex, smooth function $f$ on a Riemannian manifold $\mathcal{M}$. We show that a perturbed version of Riemannian gradient descent algorithm converges to a second-order stationary point (and hence is able to escape saddle points on the manifold). The rate of convergence depends as $1/ε^2$ on the accuracy $ε$, which matches a rate known only for unconstrained smooth minimization. The convergence rate depends polylogarithmically on the manifold dimension $d$, hence is almost dimension-free. The rate also has a polynomial dependence on the parameters describing the curvature of the manifold and the smoothness of the function. While the unconstrained problem (Euclidean setting) is well-studied, our result is the first to prove such a rate for nonconvex, manifold-constrained problems.

Evidence for nematic superconductivity of topological surface states in PbTaSe2

Spontaneous symmetry breaking has been a paradigm to describe the phase transitions in condensed matter physics. In addition to the continuous electromagnetic gauge symmetry, an unconventional superconductor can break discrete symmetries simultaneously, such as time reversal and lattice rotational symmetry. In this work we report a characteristic in-plane 2-fold behaviour of the resistive upper critical field and point-contact spectra on the superconducting semimetal PbTaSe2 with topological nodal-rings, despite its hexagonal lattice symmetry (or D_3h in bulk while C_3v on surface, to be precise). However, we do not observe any lattice rotational symmetry breaking signal from field-angle-dependent specific heat. It is worth noting that such surface-only electronic nematicity is in sharp contrast to the observation in the topological superconductor candidate, CuxBi2Se3, where the nematicity occurs in various bulk measurements. In combination with theory, superconducting nematicity is likely to emerge from the topological surface states of PbTaSe2, rather than the proximity effect. The issue of time reversal symmetry breaking is also addressed. Thus, our results on PbTaSe2 shed new light on possible routes to realize nematic superconductivity with nontrivial topology.

Deviation from canonical collective creep behavior in Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OHFeSe

We present an extensive study of the vortex dynamics in Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OHFeSe single crystal, which is prepared by intercalating insulating spacer layer Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OH into FeSe. Absence of fishtail effect and the crossover from elastic to plastic creep are observed similar to the parent compound FeSe. However, when we apply collective creep theory to the magnetic relaxation data, the obtained creep exponent $μ$ is found to be $\sim$ 4.1 much larger than the predicted maximum value. Besides, the elastic creep in the vortex phase diagram of Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OHFeSe is found to reside only in an extremely small region. Such a large value of $μ$ and the small elastic creep region may be originated from the weakening of coupling between the vortices in neighbouring layers by elongating the layer distance. It may indicate that the vortex structure of Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OHFeSe is in the crossover regime between elastic Abrikosov vortices to stacks of pancake vortices. Our study also suggests that the intercalated FeSe is a promising candidate for searching intrinsic Josephson phenomena.

Transform-Based Multilinear Dynamical System for Tensor Time Series Analysis

We propose a novel multilinear dynamical system (MLDS) in a transform domain, named $\mathcal{L}$-MLDS, to model tensor time series. With transformations applied to a tensor data, the latent multidimensional correlations among the frontal slices are built, and thus resulting in the computational independence in the transform domain. This allows the exact separability of the multi-dimensional problem into multiple smaller LDS problems. To estimate the system parameters, we utilize the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm to determine the parameters of each LDS. Further, $\mathcal{L}$-MLDSs significantly reduce the model parameters and allows parallel processing. Our general $\mathcal{L}$-MLDS model is implemented based on different transforms: discrete Fourier transform, discrete cosine transform and discrete wavelet transform. Due to the nonlinearity of these transformations, $\mathcal{L}$-MLDS is able to capture the nonlinear correlations within the data unlike the MLDS \cite{rogers2013multilinear} which assumes multi-way linear correlations. Using four real datasets, the proposed $\mathcal{L}$-MLDS is shown to achieve much higher prediction accuracy than the state-of-the-art MLDS and LDS with an equal number of parameters under different noise models. In particular, the relative errors are reduced by $50\% \sim 99\%$. Simultaneously, $\mathcal{L}$-MLDS achieves an exponential improvement in the model's training time than MLDS.

Ultrafast photocarrier recombination dynamics in black phosphorus-molybdenum disulfide (BP/MoS2) heterostructure

Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures constructed with two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted great interests, due to their fascinating properties and potential for novel applications. While earlier efforts have advanced the understanding of the ultrafast cross-layer charge transfer process in 2D heterostructures, mechanisms for the interfacial photocarrier recombination remain, to a large extent, unclear. Here, we investigate a heterostructure comprised of black phosphorus (BP) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), with a type-II band alignment. Interestingly, it is found that the photo-generated electrons in MoS2 (transferred from BP) exhibit an ultrafast lifetime of about 5 ps, significantly shorter than those of the constituent materials. By corroborating with the relaxation of photo-excited holes in BP, it is revealed that the ultrafast time constant is as a result of efficient Langevin recombination, where the high hole mobility of BP facilitates a large recombination coefficient (approximately 2x10^-10 m^2/s). In addition, broadband transient absorption spectroscopy confirms that the hot electrons transferred to MoS2 distribute over a broad energy range following an ultrafast thermalization. The rate of the interlayer Langevin recombination is found to exhibit no energy level dependence. Our findings provide essential insights into the fundamental photo-physics in type-II 2D heterostructures, and also provide useful guidelines for customizing photocarrier lifetimes of BP for high-speed photo-sensitive devices.

Multiple topological states in iron-based superconductors

Topological insulators and semimetals as well as unconventional iron-based superconductors have attracted major recent attention in condensed matter physics. Previously, however, little overlap has been identified between these two vibrant fields, even though the principal combination of topological bands and superconductivity promises exotic unprecedented avenues of superconducting states and Majorana bound states (MBSs), the central building block for topological quantum computation. Along with progressing laser-based spin-resolved and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) towards high energy and momentum resolution, we have resolved topological insulator (TI) and topological Dirac semimetal (TDS) bands near the Fermi level ($E_{\text{F}}$) in the iron-based superconductors Li(Fe,Co)As and Fe(Te,Se), respectively. The TI and TDS bands can be individually tuned to locate close to $E_{\text{F}}$ by carrier doping, allowing to potentially access a plethora of different superconducting topological states in the same material. Our results reveal the generic coexistence of superconductivity and multiple topological states in iron-based superconductors, rendering these materials a promising platform for high-$T_{\text{c}}$ topological superconductivity.

Disorder-sensitive node-like small gap in FeSe

We investigate the band structure, nematic state and superconducting gap structure of two selected FeSe single crystals containing different amount of disorder. Transport and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements show that the small amount of disorder has little effect to the band structure and the nematic state of FeSe. However, temperature and magnetic field dependencies of specific heat for the two samples are quite different. Wave-vector-dependent gap structure are obtained from the three dimensional field-angle-resolved specific heat measurements. A small gap with two vertical-line nodes or gap minima along the $k_z$ direction is found only in the sample with higher quality. Such symmetry-unprotected nodes or gap minima are found to be smeared out by small amount of disorder, and the gap becomes isotropic in the sample of lower quality. Our study reveals that the reported controversy on the gap structure of FeSe is due to the disorder-sensitive node-like small gap.

Tensor Matched Subspace Detection

The problem of testing whether a signal lies within a given subspace, also named matched subspace detection, has been well studied when the signal is represented as a vector. However, the matched subspace detection methods based on vectors can not be applied to the situations that signals are naturally represented as multi-dimensional data arrays or tensors. Considering that tensor subspaces and orthogonal projections onto these subspaces are well defined in the recently proposed transform-based tensor model, which motivates us to investigate the problem of matched subspace detection in high dimensional case. In this paper, we propose an approach for tensor matched subspace detection based on the transform-based tensor model with tubal-sampling and elementwise-sampling, respectively. First, we construct estimators based on tubal-sampling and elementwise-sampling to estimate the energy of a signal outside a given subspace of a third-order tensor and then give the probability bounds of our estimators, which show that our estimators work effectively when the sample size is greater than a constant. Secondly, the detectors both for noiseless data and noisy data are given, and the corresponding detection performance analyses are also provided. Finally, based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and discrete cosine transform (DCT), the performance of our estimators and detectors are evaluated by several simulations, and simulation results verify the effectiveness of our approach.

High-Responsivity Photodetection by Self-Catalyzed Phase-Pure P-GaAs Nanowire

Defects are detrimental for optoelectronics devices, such as stacking faults can form carrier-transportation barriers, and foreign impurities (Au) with deep-energy levels can form carrier traps and non-radiative recombination centers. Here, we first developed self-catalyzed p-type GaAs nanowires (NWs) with pure zinc blende (ZB) structure, and then fabricated photodetector made by these NWs. Due to absence of stacking faults and suppression of large amount of defects with deep energy levels, the photodetector exhibits room-temperature high photo responsivity of 1.45 x 105 A W^-1 and excellent specific detectivity (D*) up to 1.48 x 10^14 Jones for low-intensity light signal of wavelength 632.8 nm, which outperforms previously reported NW-based photodetectors. These results demonstrate that these self-catalyzed pure-ZB GaAs NWs to be promising candidates for optoelectronics applications.

Topological Dirac semimetal phase in the iron-based superconductor Fe(Te,Se)

Topological Dirac semimetals (TDSs) exhibit bulk Dirac cones protected by time reversal and crystal symmetry, as well as surface states originating from non-trivial topology. While there is a manifold possible onset of superconducting order in such systems, few observations of intrinsic superconductivity have so far been reported for TDSs. We observe evidence for a TDS phase in FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ ($x$ = 0.45), one of the high transition temperature ($T_c$) iron-based superconductors. In angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and transport experiments, we find spin-polarized states overlapping with the bulk states on the (001) surface, and linear magnetoresistance (MR) starting from 6 T. Combined, this strongly suggests the existence of a TDS phase, which is confirmed by theoretical calculations. In total, the topological electronic states in Fe(Te,Se) provide a promising high $T_c$ platform to realize multiple topological superconducting phases.
