Octet meson spectra and chiral phase diagram in the improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model

We give a further study on chiral phase diagram in the improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model with $2+1$ flavors. The equations of motion for the octet pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector mesons are derived to compute the octet meson spectra and relevant decay constants, by which the model parameters are determined. The chemical potential effects on thermal transition of chiral condensate are investigated, which enables us to obtain the chiral phase diagram in the $μ-T$ plane. We find that the critical end point linking the crossover transition with the first-order phase transition still exists and locates at $(μ_B, T_c) \simeq (390 \MeV, 145 \MeV)$, which along with the crossover line are consistent with lattice result and experimental analysis from relativistic heavy ion collisions.

Constraining primordial black holes in dark matter with kinematics of dwarf galaxies

We propose that the kinematical observations of dwarf galaxies can be used to constrain the primordial black hole's (PBH) abundance in dark matter since the presence of primordial black holes in star clusters will lead to the radial velocity dispersion of the system. For instance, using the velocity dispersion observations from Leo I we show that the primordial black hole fraction $f_{\rm PBH}\gtrsim 2.0\times(1~M_{\odot}/m_{\rm PBH})^2$ is ruled out at a 99.99\% confidence level. This method yields the most stringent limits on the PBH abundance at the mass scales $\sim (1-10^3)~M_{\odot}$ and tightly constrains the primordial origin of gravitational wave events observed by the LIGO experiments.

Prospects of detecting dark matter through cosmic-ray antihelium with the antiproton constraints

Cosmic-ray (CR) antihelium is an important observable for dark matter (DM) indirect searches due to extremely low secondary backgrounds towards low energies. In a given DM model, the predicted CR antihelium flux is expected to be strongly correlated with that of CR antiprotons. In this work, we use the AMS-02 $\bar p/p$ data to constrain the DM annihilation cross section, and the ALICE data on the $^3\overline{\text{He}}$ and $\overline{\text{T}}$ productions to determine the parameters in the coalescence model for anti-nucleus formation. The hadronic cross sections are estimated using Monte-Carlo event generators including $\texttt{EPOS-LHC}$ and $\texttt{DPMJET}$. Based on these constraints, we make predictions for the maximal antihelium flux for typical DM annihilation final states, and perform a detailed analysis on the uncertainties due to the DM density profiles and CR propagation models. We find that the results are highly insensitive to both of them, but still significantly depends on the hadronization models in event generators. The prospects of detecting antihelium for the AMS-02 experiment is discussed. We show that with very optimistic assumptions, CR $^3\overline{\text{He}}$ is within the reach of the AMS-02 experiment. The $^3\overline{\text{He}}$ events which can be detected by AMS-02 are likely to have kinetic energy $T \gtrsim 30$~GeV, which is consistent with the preliminary AMS-02 search results. The events which can be observed by AMS-02 are likely to arise dominantly from secondary backgrounds rather than DM interactions.

Chiral phase transition and QCD phase diagram from AdS/QCD

We study the chemical potential effects on the chiral phase transition in a simply improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model, which can realize consistently the properties of linear confinement and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. The $μ-T$ phase diagrams with both zero and physical quark masses have been obtained from this model. For the case of physical quark mass, the chiral transition has a crossover behavior at low chemical potential. With the increase of the chemical potential $μ$, the critical temperature $T_c$ descends towards zero, and the crossover transition turns into a first-order one at some intermediate value of $μ$, which implies that a critical end point naturally exists in this improved soft-wall model. All these features agree with our current perspective on the QCD phase diagram.

Gravity and Spin Forces in Gravitational Quantum Field Theory

In the new framework of gravitational quantum field theory (GQFT) with spin and scaling gauge invariance developed in Phys. Rev. D\textbf{93} (2016) 024012-1~\cite{Wu:2015wwa}, we make a perturbative expansion for the full action in a background field which accounts for the early inflationary universe. We decompose the bicovariant vector fields of gravifield and spin gauge field with Lorentz and spin symmetries SO(1,3) and SP(1,3) in biframe spacetime into SO(3) representations for deriving the propagators of the basic quantum fields and extract their interaction terms. The leading order Feynman rules are presented. A tree-level 2 to 2 scattering amplitude of the Dirac fermions, through a gravifield and a spin gauge field, is calculated and compared to the Born approximation of the potential. It is shown that the Newton's gravitational law in the early universe is modified due to the background field. The spin dependence of the gravitational potential is demonstrated.

Inflation in gauge theory of gravity with local scaling symmetry and quantum induced symmetry breaking

Motivated by the gauge theory of gravity with local scaling symmetry proposed recently in 1712.04537 and 1506.01807, we investigate whether the scalar field therein can be responsible for the inflation. We show that the classical theory would suffer from the difficulty that inflation can start but will never stop. We explore possible solutions by invoking the symmetry breaking through quantum effects. The effective potential of the scalar field is shown to have phenomenologically interesting forms to give viable inflation models. The predictions of physical observables agree well with current cosmological measurements and can be further tested in future experiments searching for primordial gravitational waves.

Astrophysical background and dark matter implication based on latest AMS-02 data

The cosmic ray(CR) positrons and antiprotons are often regarded as the collision products of CR nucleons with the interstellar medium. However this conclusion is challenged by recent experimental data. In this work, we choose the latest AMS-02 data to analyze the astrophysical background of CR positrons and antiprotons with the GALPROP code for CR propagation and the QGSJET-II-04 model for the hadronic interactions. The results show that in low energies the predicted fluxes of CR antiprotons and positrons are consistent with AMS-02 data in the diffusion model combining the re-acceleration and convection terms (DCR model). Thus, the excess of CR antiprotons in the low energy are not justified. In that model, the predicted flux of CR protons is consistent with AMS-02 data whose hardening feature above 330 GeV is also matched. Based on that model, the total fluxes of CR electrons and positrons from AMS-02 are also used to analyzed the interpretation of dark matter annihilation about the positron excess. The predicted best-fit masses of dark matter are from 400 GeV to 4 TeV. The DCR model does not give the unusual interpretation of the positron excess.

Hyperunified field theory and Taiji program in space for GWD

In this talk, I present the recently established hyperunified field theory (HUFT) \cite{YLWU1,YLWU2} for all basic forces and elementary particles within the framework of gravitational quantum field theory (GQFT)\cite{YLWU3,YLWU4} in hyper-spacetime. GQFT treats gravity as a gauge theory in the framework of quantum field theory to avoid the long term obstacle between the general relativity and quantum mechanics. HUFT is built based on the guiding principle: the dimension of hyper-spacetime correlates to intrinsic quantum numbers of basic building blocks of nature, and the action describing the laws of nature obeys the gauge invariance and coordinate independence, which is more fundamental than that proposed by Einstein for general relativity. The basic gravitational field is defined in biframe hyper-spacetime as a bicovariant vector field, it is a gauge-type hyper-gravifield rather than a metric field. HUFT is characterized by a bimaximal Poincaré and hyper-spin gauge symmetry PO(1,$D_h$-1)$\Join$SP(1,$D_h$-1) with a global and local conformal scaling invariance in biframe hyper-spacetime. The gravitational origin of gauge symmetry is revealed through the hyper-gravifield that plays an essential role as a Goldstone-like field, which enables us to demonstrate the gauge-gravity and gravity-geometry correspondences and to corroborate the gravitational gauge-geometry duality with an emergent hidden general linear group symmetry GL($D_h$,R). The Taiji Program in Space for the gravitational wave detection in China\cite{Nature,Taiji,HUWU} is briefly outlined.

Chiral Phase Transition with 2+1 quark flavors in an improved soft-wall AdS/QCD Model

We study the chiral phase transition with 2 + 1 quark flavors in an improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model, which can produce the light meson spectrum and many other low-energy quantities consistent with experiments in the two-flavor case. The chiral transition behaviors of the quark condensates at different quark masses are analysed in detail, and the (m_{u,d}, m_s) phase diagram for the quark sector has been obtained from the improved soft-wall model. We find that the features of the calculated phase diagram are completely consistent with the standard scenario, which is supported by lattice simulations and theoretical arguments. The evidence of a tricritical point on the m_{u,d} = 0 boundary of the (m_{u,d}, m_s) phase diagram is first clearly presented in the bottom-up AdS/QCD.

Damping of gravitational waves in a viscous Universe and its implication for dark matter self-interactions

It is well known that a gravitational wave (GW) experiences the damping effect when it propagates in a fluid with nonzero shear viscosity. In this paper, we propose a new method to constrain the GW damping rate and thus the fluid shear viscosity. By defining the effective distance which incorporates damping effects, we can transform the GW strain expression in a viscous Universe into the same form as that in a perfect fluid. Therefore, the constraints of the luminosity distances from the observed GW events by LIGO and Virgo can be directly applied to the effective distances in our formalism. We exploit the lognormal likelihoods for the available GW effective distances and a Gaussian likelihood for the luminosity distance inferred from the electromagnetic radiation observation of the binary neutron star merger event GW170817. Our fittings show no obvious damping effects in the current GW data, and the upper limit on the damping rate with the combined data is $6.75 \times 10^{-4}\,{\rm Mpc}^{-1}$ at 95\% confidence level. By assuming that the dark matter self-scatterings are efficient enough for the hydrodynamic description to be valid, we find that a GW event from its source at a luminosity distance $D\gtrsim 10^4\;\rm Mpc$ can be used to put a constraint on the dark matter self-interactions.

Constraints on the Sommerfeld-enhanced dark matter annihilation from the gamma rays of subhalos and dwarf galaxies

The substructures of the Galactic dark matter halo such as dark matter subhalos and dwarf galaxies have very low velocity dispersions, which makes them useful in constraining the scenario of Sommerfeld-enhanced dark matter annihilation. We calculate the velocity distribution of dark matter particles in dark matter halo substructures using the Eddington's formula with NFW density profile. We parametrize the effect of Sommerfeld enhancement of s-wave dark matter annihilation on the gamma-ray flux as the Sommerfeld-enhanced J-factors, and explicitly calculate their values for 15 known dwarf spheroidal galaxies. Using the Fermi-LAT 3FGL data on the unassociated point-sources and the N-body simulation results on the dark matter subhalo distribution, we derive upper limits on the dark matter annihilation cross sections with Sommerfeld enhacement. Similar upper limits are derived from the Ferm-LAT gamma-ray data on the dwarf spheroidal galaxies. We find that in a wide region of parameter space, the constraints can be a few orders of magnitude more stringent than that in the case without the Sommerfeld enhancement. For dark matter annihilation dominantly into $e^+e^-$, $μ^+μ^-$, $τ^{+}τ^{-}$ and $b\bar b$, those constraints can exclude thermal relic dark matter for the dark matter mass below about 1 TeV.

Origins of sharp cosmic-ray electron structures and the DAMPE excess

Nearby sources may contribute to cosmic-ray electron (CRE) structures at high energies. Recently, the first DAMPE results on the CRE flux hinted at a narrow excess at energy ~1.4 TeV. We show that in general a spectral structure with a narrow width appears in two scenarios: I) "Spectrum broadening" for the continuous sources with a delta-function-like injection spectrum. In this scenario, a finite width can develop after propagation through the Galaxy, which can reveal the distance of the source. Well-motivated sources include mini-spikes and subhalos formed by dark matter (DM) particles $χ_{s}$ which annihilate directly into e+e- pairs. II) "Phase-space shrinking" for burst-like sources with a power-law-like injection spectrum. The spectrum after propagation can shrink at a cooling-related cutoff energy and form a sharp spectral peak. The peak can be more prominent due to the energy-dependent diffusion. In this scenario, the width of the excess constrains both the power index and the distance of the source. Possible such sources are pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) and supernova remnants (SNRs). We analysis the DAMPE excess and find that the continuous DM sources should be fairly close within ~0.3 kpc, and the annihilation cross sections are close to the thermal value. For the burst-like source, the narrow width of the excess suggests that the injection spectrum must be hard with power index significantly less than two, the distance is within ~(3-4) kpc, and the age of the source is ~0.16 Myr. In both scenarios, large anisotropies in the CRE flux are predicted. We identify possible candidates of mini-spike (PWN) sources in the current Fermi-LAT 3FGL (ATNF) catalog. The diffuse gamma-rays from these sources can be well below the Galactic diffuse gamma-ray backgrounds and less constrained by the Ferm-LAT data, if they are located at the low Galactic latitude regions.

Hyperunified field theory and gravitational gauge-geometry duality

A hyperunified field theory is built in detail based on the postulates of gauge invariance and coordinate independence along with the conformal scaling symmetry. All elementary particles are merged into a single hyper-spinor field and all basic forces are unified into a fundamental interaction governed by the hyper-spin gauge symmetry SP(1,$D_h$-1). The dimension $D_h$ of hyper-spacetime is conjectured to have a physical origin in correlation with the hyper-spin charge of elementary particles. The hyper-gravifield fiber bundle structure of biframe hyper-spacetime appears naturally with the globally flat Minkowski hyper-spacetime as a base spacetime and the locally flat hyper-gravifield spacetime as a fiber that is viewed as a dynamically emerged hyper-spacetime characterized by a non-commutative geometry. The gravitational origin of gauge symmetry is revealed with the hyper-gravifield that plays an essential role as a Goldstone-like field. The gauge-gravity and gravity-geometry correspondences bring about the gravitational gauge-geometry duality. The basic properties of hyperunified field theory and the issue on the fundamental scale are analyzed within the framework of quantum field theory, which allows us to describe the laws of nature in deriving the gauge gravitational equation with the conserved current and the geometric gravitational equations of Einstein-like type and beyond.

Flavor Non-universality Gauge Interactions and Anomalies in B-Meson Decays

Motivated by flavor non-universality and anomalies in semi-leptonic B-meson decays, we present a general and systematic discussion about how to construct anomaly-free $U(1)'$ gauge theories based on an extended standard model with only three right-handed neutrinos. If all standard model fermions are vector-like under this new gauge symmetry, the most general family non-universal charge assignments, $(a,b,c)$ for three-generation quarks and $(d,e,f)$ for leptons, need satisfy just one condition to be anomaly-free, $3(a+b+c)=-(d+e+f)$. Any assignment can be linear combinations of five independent anomaly-free solutions. We also illustrate how such models can generally lead to flavor-changing interactions and easily resolve the anomalies in B-meson decays. Probes with $B_s-\bar{B}_s$ mixing, decay into $τ^\pm$, dilepton and dijet searches at colliders are also discussed.

On Thermal Gravitational Contribution to Particle Production and Dark Matter

We investigate the particle production from thermal gravitational annihilation in the very early universe, which is an important contribution for particles that might not be in thermal equilibrium or/and only have gravitational interaction, such as dark matter (DM). For particles with spin 0, 1/2 and 1 we calculate the relevant cross sections through gravitational annihilation and give the analytic formulas with full mass-dependent terms. We find that DM with mass between TeV and $10^{16}$GeV could have the relic abundance that fits the observation, with small dependence on its spin. We also discuss the effects of gravitational annihilation from inflatons. Interestingly, contributions from inflatons could be dominant and have the same power dependence on Hubble parameter of inflation as that from vacuum fluctuation. Also, fermion production from inflatons, in comparison to boson, is suppressed by its mass due to helicity selection.

Quadratic Contributions of Softly Broken Supersymmetry in the Light of Loop Regularization

Loop regularization (LORE) is a novel regularization scheme in modern quantum field theories. It makes no change to the spacetime structure and respects both gauge symmetries and supersymmetry. As a result, LORE should be useful in calculating loop corrections in supersymmetry phenomenology. To demonstrate further its power, in this article we revisit in the light of LORE the old issue of the absence of quadratic contributions (quadratic divergences) in softly broken supersymmetric field theories. It is shown explicitly by Feynman diagrammatic calculations that up to two loops the Wess-Zumino model with soft supersymmetry breaking terms (WZ' model), one of the simplest models with the explicit supersymmetry breaking, is free of quadratic contributions. All the quadratic contributions cancel with each other perfectly, which is consistent with results dictated by the supergraph techniques.

Maximal symmetry and mass generation of Dirac fermions and gravitational gauge field theory in six-dimensional spacetime

The relativistic Dirac equation in four-dimensional spacetime reveals a coherent relation between the dimensions of spacetime and the degrees of freedom of fermionic spinors. A massless Dirac fermion generates new symmetries corresponding to chirality spin and charge spin as well as conformal scaling transformations. With the introduction of intrinsic W-parity, a massless Dirac fermion can be treated as a Majorana-type or Weyl-type spinor in a six-dimensional spacetime that reflects the intrinsic quantum numbers of chirality spin. A generalized Dirac equation is obtained in the six-dimensional spacetime with a maximal symmetry. Based on the framework of gravitational quantum field theory proposed in Ref. \cite{YLWU} with the postulate of gauge invariance and coordinate independence, we arrive at a maximally symmetric gravitational gauge field theory for the massless Dirac fermion in six-dimensional spacetime. Such a theory is governed by the local spin gauge symmetry SP(1,5) and the global Poincaré symmetry P(1,5)= SO(1,5)$\ltimes P^{1,5} $ as well as the charge spin gauge symmetry SU(2). The theory leads to the prediction of doubly electrically charged bosons. A scalar field and conformal scaling gauge field are introduced to maintain both global and local conformal scaling symmetries. A generalized gravitational Dirac equation for the massless Dirac fermion is derived in the six-dimensional spacetime. The equations of motion for gauge fields are obtained with conserved currents in the presence of gravitational effects. The dynamics of the gauge-type gravifield as a Goldstone-like boson is shown to be governed by a conserved energy-momentum tensor, and its symmetric part provides a generalized Einstein equation of gravity. An alternative geometrical symmetry breaking mechanism for the mass generation of Dirac fermions is demonstrated.

Unified field theory of basic forces and elementary particles with gravitational origin of gauge symmetry in hyper-spacetime

A unified field theory of all known basic forces and elementary particles is built based on the postulates of gauge invariance and coordinate independence along with general conformal scaling symmetry. The hyper-spin charge of a unified hyper-spinor field is conjectured to correlate with the dimension of hyper-spacetime. The minimal dimension of hyper-spacetime for the unity of quarks and leptons in the standard model is found to be $D_h=19$ with a bimaximal symmetry. A unified fundamental interaction is governed by hyper-spin gauge symmetry SP(1,$D_h$-1). We show gravitational origin of gauge symmetry characterized by gauge-type Goldstone-like hyper-gravifield, which enables us to study gauge gravity and gravity geometry correspondences and to reveal gauge geometry duality.
