Enantiomer-Selective Magnetoresistance in Chiral Gold Nanocrystals by Magnetic Control of Surface Potentials

Chiral nanomaterials offer intriguing possibilities for novel electronic and chemical applications. Here, we report the discovery of an enantiomer-selective magnetoresistance effect in chiral gold nanocrystals. Based on precise control of nanocrystal chiral morphology using amino acid-directed synthesis, we demonstrate that an external magnetic field can dramatically modulate resistance in an enantiomer-specific manner. For a given enantiomer, a magnetic field in one direction alters the resistance by dozens of times, while the opposite field direction leaves it unchanged. This asymmetric response reverses for the opposite enantiomer and are reproduced in both single nanocrystals by conduction atomic force microscopy and nanocrystal thin films in solid state devices. We attribute this phenomenon to a chirality-driven charge pumping effect, where the interplay between the chiral morphology and the magnetic field selectively modifies the surface potential. The magnitude and sign of the magnetoresistance can be further tuned by the surface chemistry of the nanocrystal, as demonstrated through sulfide treatment. Our findings reveal a new form of chirality-dependent magnetoresistance, distinct from previously known effects such as chirality-induced spin selectivity and electric magnetochiral anisotropy. The ability to remotely control surface potentials of chiral nanostructures using magnetic fields could enable novel approaches in catalysis, drug delivery, and nanoelectronics.

Low-Interference Near-Field Multi-User Communication Enabled by Spatially Converging Multi-Mode Vortex Waves

This paper proposes a multi-user Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM) near-field access scheme, inspired by the orthogonal characteristics of multi-mode vortex waves. A Reconfigurable Meta-surface (RM) is ingeniously employed as the gateway for information transmission. This RM not only receives spatially overlapping multiplexed multi-mode vortex beams but also converts them into focused point beams in the near field. Specifically, a multi-port microstrip array method is utilized to generate multiple orthogonal vortex electromagnetic wave modes. Different ports serve as feeding points for baseband signals, allowing independent modulated data to be flexibly loaded onto different modes. After being adjusted by the RM, the vortex electromagnetic waves are converted into energy-focusing point beams, which can be directed to arbitrary 3D positions in the RM's near-field region and received by different users. Since the spatial positions of the point beams are non-overlapping, this approach not only ensures energy concentration but also significantly reduces inter-user interference. Near-field scanning results in a microwave anechoic chamber validate the effectiveness of this method, while real-time communication demonstrations confirm the system's capability for low-interference information multiplexing and transmission in practical scenarios.

Joint Precoder and Reflector Design for RIS-assisted Multi-user OAM Communication Systems

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) can enhance the spectral efficiency by multiplying a set of orthogonal modes on the same frequency channel. To maintain the orthogonal among different OAM modes, perfect alignments between transmitters and receivers are strictly required. However, in multi-user OAM communications, the perfect alignments between the transmitter and all the receivers are impossible. The phase turbulence, caused by misaligned transmitters and receivers, leads to serious inter-mode interference, which greatly degrades the capacity of OAM transmissions. To eliminate the negative effects of phase turbulence and further enhance the transmission capacity, we introduce RIS into the system, and propose a joint precoder and reflector design for reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted multi-user OAM communication systems. Specifically, we propose a three-layer design at the transmitter side, which includes inter-user OAM mode interference cancellation, inter-mode self-interference elimination and the power allocation among different users. By analyzing the characteristics of the overall channels, we are able to give the specific expressions of the precoder designs, which significantly reduce the optimization complexity. We further leverage RIS to guarantee the line-ofsight (LoS) transmissions between the transmitter and users for better sum rate performance. To verify the superiority of the proposed multi-user OAM transmission system, we compare it with traditional MIMO transmission schemes, numerical results have shown that our proposed design can achieve better sum rate performance due to the well-designed orthogonality among different users and OAM modes.

A fast iterative thresholding and support-and-scale shrinking algorithm (fits3) for non-lipschitz group sparse optimization (i): the case of least-squares fidelity

We consider to design a new efficient and easy-to-implement algorithm to solve a general group sparse optimization model with a class of non-convex non-Lipschitz regularizations, named as fast iterative thresholding and support-and-scale shrinking algorithm (FITS3). In this paper we focus on the case of a least-squares fidelity. FITS3 is designed from a lower bound theory of such models and by integrating thresholding operation, linearization and extrapolation techniques. The FITS3 has two advantages. Firstly, it is quite efficient and especially suitable for large-scale problems, because it adopts support-and-scale shrinking and does not need to solve any linear or nonlinear system. For two important special cases, the FITS3 contains only simple calculations like matrix-vector multiplication and soft thresholding. Secondly, the FITS3 algorithm has a sequence convergence guarantee under proper assumptions. The numerical experiments and comparisons to recent existing non-Lipschitz group recovery algorithms demonstrate that, the proposed FITS3 achieves similar recovery accuracies, but costs only around a half of the CPU time by the second fastest compared algorithm for median or large-scale problems.

Experimental Study of RCS Diversity with Novel No-divergent OAM Beams

This research proposes a novel approach utilizing Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) beams to enhance Radar Cross Section (RCS) diversity for target detection in future transportation systems. Unlike conventional OAM beams with hollow-shaped divergence patterns, the new proposed OAM beams provide uniform illumination across the target without a central energy void, but keep the inherent phase gradient of vortex property. We utilize waveguide slot antennas to generate four different modes of these novel OAM beams at X-band frequency. Furthermore, these different mode OAM beams are used to illuminate metal models, and the resulting RCS is compared with that obtained using plane waves. The findings reveal that the novel OAM beams produce significant azimuthal RCS diversity, providing a new approach for the detection of weak and small targets. This study not only reveals the RCS diversity phenomenon based on novel OAM beams of different modes but also addresses the issue of energy divergence that hinders traditional OAM beams in long-range detection applications.

Magnetochiral Charge Pumping due to Charge Trapping and Skin Effect in Chirality-Induced Spin Selectivity

Chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) generates giant spin polarization in transport through chiral molecules, paving the way for novel spintronic devices and enantiomer separation. Unlike conventional transport, CISS magnetoresistance (MR) violates Onsager's reciprocal relation, exhibiting significant resistance changes when reversing electrode magnetization at zero bias. However, its underlying mechanism remains unresolved. In this work, we propose that CISS MR originates from charge trapping that modifies the electron tunneling barrier and circumvents Onsager's relation, distinct from previous spin polarization-based models. Charge trapping is governed by the non-Hermitian skin effect, where dissipation leads to exponential wavefunction localization at the ferromagnet-chiral molecule interface. Reversing magnetization or chirality alters the localization direction, changing the occupation of impurity/defect states in the molecule (i.e., charge trapping) -- a phenomenon we term magnetochiral charge pumping. Our theory explains why CISS MR can far exceed the ferromagnet spin polarization and why chiral molecules violate the reciprocal relation but chiral metals do not. Furthermore, it predicts exotic phenomena beyond the conventional CISS framework, including asymmetric MR induced by magnetic fields alone (without ferromagnetic electrodes), as confirmed by recent experiments. This work offers a deeper understanding of CISS and opens avenues for controlling electrostatic interactions in chemical and biological systems through the magnetochiral charge pumping.

Innovative RIS Prototyping Enhancing Wireless Communication with Real-Time Spot Beam Tracking and OAM Wavefront Manipulation

This paper presents a sophisticated reconfigurable metasurface architecture that introduces an advanced concept of flexible full-array space-time wavefront manipulation with enhanced dynamic capabilities. The practical 2-bit phase-shifting unit cell on the RIS is distinguished by its ability to maintain four stable phase states, each with ${90^ \circ }$ differences, and features an insertion loss of less than 0.6 dB across a bandwidth of 200 MHz. All reconfigurable units are equipped with meticulously designed control circuits, governed by an intelligent core composed of multiple Micro-Controller Units (MCUs), enabling rapid control response across the entire RIS array. Owing to the capability of each unit cell on the metasurface to independently switch states, the entire RIS is not limited to controlling general beams with specific directional patterns, but also generates beams with more complex structures, including multi-focus 3D spot beams and vortex beams. This development substantially broadens its applicability across various industrial wireless transmission scenarios. Moreover, by leveraging the rapid-respond space-time coding and the full-array independent programmability of the RIS prototyping operating at 10.7 GHz, we have demonstrated that: 1) The implementation of 3D spot beams scanning facilitates dynamic beam tracking and real-time communication under the indoor near-field scenario; 2) The rapid wavefront rotation of vortex beams enables precise modulation of signals within the Doppler domain, showcasing an innovative approach to wireless signal manipulation; 3) The beam steering experiments for blocking users under outdoor far-field scenarios, verifying the beamforming capability of the RIS board.

Near-Orthogonal Overlay Communications in LoS Channel Enabled by Novel OAM Beams without Central Energy Voids: An Experimental Study

This paper introduces a groundbreaking Line-of-Sight (LoS) Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) communication architecture leveraging non-traditional Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) beams. Challenging the conventional paradigm of hollow-emitting OAM beams, this study presents an innovative OAM transmitter design that produces directional OAM beams without central energy voids, aligning their radiation patterns with those of conventional planar wave horn antennas. Within the main lobe of these antennas, the phase variation characteristics inherent to OAM beams are ingeniously maintained, linking different OAM modes to the linear wavefront variation gradients, thereby reducing channel correlation in LoS scenarios and significantly augmenting the channel capacity of LoS-MIMO frameworks. Empirical validations conducted through a meticulously designed LoS-MIMO experimental platform reveal significant improvements in channel correlation coefficients, communication stability, and Bit Error Rate (BER) compared to systems utilizing traditional planar wave antennas. The experiment results underscore the potential of the novel OAM-based system to improve current LoS-MIMO communication protocols, and offer both academic and engineering guidance for the construction of practical communication infrastructures. Beyond its immediate contributions, this paper underscores a pivotal shift in the field of communications, pointing out that traditional communication algorithms have primarily focused on baseband signal processing while often overlooking the electromagnetic characteristics of the physical world.

MRIo3DS-Net: A Mutually Reinforcing Images to 3D Surface RNN-like framework for model-adaptation indoor 3D reconstruction

This paper is the first to propose an end-to-end framework of mutually reinforcing images to 3D surface recurrent neural network-like for model-adaptation indoor 3D reconstruction, where multi-view dense matching and point cloud surface optimization are mutually reinforced by a RNN-like structure rather than being treated as a separate issue. The characteristics are as follows:In the multi-view dense matching module, the model-adaptation strategy is used to fine-tune and optimize a Transformer-based multi-view dense matching DNN,so that it has the higher image feature for matching and detail expression capabilities; In the point cloud surface optimization module, the 3D surface reconstruction network based on 3D implicit field is optimized by using model-adaptation strategy, which solves the problem of point cloud surface optimization without knowing normal vector of 3D surface. To improve and finely reconstruct 3D surfaces from point cloud, smooth loss is proposed and added to this module; The MRIo3DS-Net is a RNN-like framework, which utilizes the finely optimized 3D surface obtained by PCSOM to recursively reinforce the differentiable warping for optimizing MVDMM.This refinement leads to achieving better dense matching results, and better dense matching results leads to achieving better 3D surface results recursively and mutually.Hence, model-adaptation strategy can better collaborate the differences between the two network modules,so that they complement each other to achieve the better effect; To accelerate the transfer learning and training convergence from source domain to target domain,a multi-task loss function based on Bayesian uncertainty is used to adaptively adjust the weights between the two networks loss functions of MVDMM and PCSOM;In this multi-task cascade network framework, any modules can be replaced by any state-of-the-art networks to achieve better 3D reconstruction results.

Hybrid-order topology in unconventional magnets of Eu-based Zintl compounds with surface-dependent quantum geometry

The exploration of magnetic topological insulators is instrumental in exploring axion electrodynamics and intriguing transport phenomena, such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect. Here, we report that a family of magnetic compounds Eu$_{2n+1}$In$_{2}$(As,Sb)$_{2n+2}$ ($n=0,1,2$) exhibit both gapless Dirac surface states and chiral hinge modes. Such a hybrid-order topology hatches surface-dependent quantum geometry. By mapping the responses into real space, we demonstrate the existence of chiral hinge modes along the $c$ direction, which originate from the half-quantized anomalous Hall effect on two gapped $ac$/$bc$ facets due to Berry curvature, while the unpinned Dirac surface states on the gapless $ab$ facet generate an intrinsic nonlinear anomalous Hall effect due to the quantum metric. When Eu$_{3}$In$_{2}$As$_{4}$ is polarized to the ferromagnetic phase by an external magnetic field, it becomes an ideal Weyl semimetal with a single pair of type-I Weyl points and no extra Fermi pocket. Our work predicts rich topological states sensitive to magnetic structures, quantum geometry-induced transport and topological superconductivity if proximitized with a superconductor.

SFC: Achieve Accurate Fast Convolution under Low-precision Arithmetic

Fast convolution algorithms, including Winograd and FFT, can efficiently accelerate convolution operations in deep models. However, these algorithms depend on high-precision arithmetic to maintain inference accuracy, which conflicts with the model quantization. To resolve this conflict and further improve the efficiency of quantized convolution, we proposes SFC, a new algebra transform for fast convolution by extending the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) with symbolic computing, in which only additions are required to perform the transformation at specific transform points, avoiding the calculation of irrational number and reducing the requirement for precision. Additionally, we enhance convolution efficiency by introducing correction terms to convert invalid circular convolution outputs of the Fourier method into effective ones. The numerical error analysis is presented for the first time in this type of work and proves that our algorithms can provide a 3.68x multiplication reduction for 3x3 convolution, while the Winograd algorithm only achieves a 2.25x reduction with similarly low numerical errors. Experiments carried out on benchmarks and FPGA show that our new algorithms can further improve the computation efficiency of quantized models while maintaining accuracy, surpassing both the quantization-alone method and existing works on fast convolution quantization.

Topotaxial Mutual-Exchange Growth of Magnetic Zintl Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$ Nanowires with Axion Insulator Classification

Nanomaterials bring to expression unique electronic properties that promote advanced functionality and technologies. Albeit, nanoscale growth presents paramount challenges for synthesis limiting the diversity in structures and compositions. Here, we demonstrate solid-state topotactic exchange that converts Wurtzite InAs nanowires into Zintl phase Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$ nanowires. In situ evaporation of Eu and As over InAs nanowire cores in molecular beam epitaxy results in mutual exchange of Eu from the shell and In from the core. A continuous Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$ shell thereby grows that gradually consumes the InAs core and converts it into a single phase Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$ nanowire. Topotaxy, which facilitates the mutual exchange, is supported by the substructure of the As matrix which is similar across the Wurtzite InAs and Zintl Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$. We provide initial evidence of an antiferromagnetic transition at T$_N$ $\sim$ 6.5 K in the Zintl phase Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$ nanowires. Ab initio calculation confirms the antiferromagnetic state and classifies Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$ as a $C_2 T$ axion insulator hosting both chiral hinge modes and unpinned Dirac surface states. The topotactic mutual-exchange growth of Zintl Eu$_3$In$_2$As$_4$ nanowires thus enables the exploration of intricate magneto-topological states of nanomaterials. Moreover, it may open the path for topotactic mutual-exchange synthesis of nanowires made of other exotic compounds.

Accurate polymorphous description of the paramagnetic phases in MnBi$_{2}$Te$_{4}$

Temperature-driven phase transition is a long-standing frontier in material science, among which the most common phenomenon is the transition from a low-temperature magnetic-ordered phase to a high-temperature paramagnetic phase. A paramount question is if such a paramagnetic phase of the 'correlated solids' can be well described by single-particle band theory to facilitate the experimental observations. In this work, we investigate the electronic properties of the paramagnetic phase by the static density functional theory via two different approaches, namely monomorphous description and polymorphous description. In the conventional monomorphous description, the local spin moments are naively forced to be zero. By contrast, the polymorphous description based on a large enough supercell with disordered distributed local moments is able to count in the effects of distinct local environments, providing a more reliable paramagnetic electronic structure to simulate realistic materials. From a comparison of total energies, symmetries, and band structures, we demonstrate the necessity for a proper treatment of paramagnetic phases, taking MnBi$_{2}$Te$_{4}$ as an example. Our work provides a theoretical perspective on the evolution of electronic structures through magnetic order-disorder phase transitions in emergent topological magnets.

LSPI: Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network Classification Aggregation Algorithm Based on Size Neighbor Path Identification

Existing heterogeneous graph neural network algorithms (HGNNs) mostly rely on meta-paths to capture the rich semantic information contained in heterogeneous graphs (also known as heterogeneous information networks (HINs)), but most of these HGNNs focus on different ways of feature aggre gation and ignore the properties of the meta-paths themselves. This paper studies meta-paths in three commonly used data sets and finds that there are huge differences in the number of neighbors connected by different meta paths. At the same time, the noise information contained in large neigh bor paths will have an adverse impact on model performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network Classification and Aggregation Algorithm Based on Large and Small Neighbor Path Iden tification(LSPI). LSPI firstly divides the meta-paths into large and small neighbor paths through the path discriminator , and in order to reduce the noise interference problem in large neighbor paths, LSPI selects neighbor nodes with higher similarity from both topology and feature perspectives, and passes small neighbor paths and filtered large neighbor paths through different graph convolution components. Aggregation is performed to obtain feature information under different subgraphs, and then LSPI uses subgraph level attention to fuse the feature information under different subgraphs to generate the final node embedding. Finally this paper verifies the superiority of the method through extensive experiments and also gives suggestions on the number of nodes to be retained in large neighbor paths through exper iments. The complete reproducible code adn data has been published at: https://github.com/liuhua811/LSPIA.

Uncommon linear systems of two equations

A system of linear equations $L$ is common over $\mathbb{F}_p$ if, as $n\to\infty$, any 2-coloring of $\mathbb{F}_p^n$ gives asymptotically at least as many monochromatic solutions to $L$ as a random 2-coloring. The notion of common linear systems is analogous to that of common graphs, i.e., graphs whose monochromatic density in 2-edge-coloring of cliques is asymptotically minimized by the random coloring. Saad and Wolf initiated a systematic study on identifying common linear systems, built upon the earlier work of Cameron-Cilleruelo-Serra. When $L$ is a single equation, Fox-Pham-Zhao gave a complete characterization of common linear equations. When $L$ consists of two equations, Kamčev-Liebenau-Morrison showed that irredundant $2\times 4$ linear systems are always uncommon. In this work, (1) we determine commonness of all $2\times 5$ linear systems up to a small number of cases, and (2) we show that all $2\times k$ linear systems with $k$ even and girth (minimum number of nonzero coefficients of a nonzero equation spanned by the system) $k-1$ are uncommon, answering a question of Kamčev-Liebenau-Morrison.

A general approach to enhance the survivability of backdoor attacks by decision path coupling

Backdoor attacks have been one of the emerging security threats to deep neural networks (DNNs), leading to serious consequences. One of the mainstream backdoor defenses is model reconstruction-based. Such defenses adopt model unlearning or pruning to eliminate backdoors. However, little attention has been paid to survive from such defenses. To bridge the gap, we propose Venom, the first generic backdoor attack enhancer to improve the survivability of existing backdoor attacks against model reconstruction-based defenses. We formalize Venom as a binary-task optimization problem. The first is the original backdoor attack task to preserve the original attack capability, while the second is the attack enhancement task to improve the attack survivability. To realize the second task, we propose attention imitation loss to force the decision path of poisoned samples in backdoored models to couple with the crucial decision path of benign samples, which makes backdoors difficult to eliminate. Our extensive evaluation on two DNNs and three datasets has demonstrated that Venom significantly improves the survivability of eight state-of-the-art attacks against eight state-of-the-art defenses without impacting the capability of the original attacks.
