Collapsing of negative Kähler-Einstein metrics

In this paper, we study the collapsing behaviour of negative Kähler-Einstein metrics along degenerations of canonical polarized manifolds. We prove that for a toroidal degeneration of canonical polarized manifolds with the total space $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial, the Kähler-Einstein metrics on fibers collapse to a lower dimensional complete Riemannian manifold in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff sense by suitably choosing the base points. Furthermore, the most collapsed limit is a real affine Kähler manifold.

Completion of the moduli space for polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds

In this paper, we construct a completion of the moduli space for polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds by using Ricci-flat Kähler-Einstein metrics and the Gromov-Hausdorff topology, which parameterizes certain Calabi-Yau varieties. We then study the algebro-geometric perperties and the Weil-Petersson geometry of such completion. We show that the completion can be exhausted by sequences of quasi-projective varieties, and new points added have finite Weil-Petersson distance to the interior.

Triviality of fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds without singular fibers

In this note we show that if a compact Kahler manifold with trivial canonical bundle is the total space of a holomorphic fibration without singular fibers, then the fibration is a holomorphic fiber bundle. In the algebraic case, the fibration becomes trivial after a finite base change.

Degenerations of Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds

This paper is a sequel to arXiv:1012.2940. We further investigate the Gromov-Hausdorff convergence of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics under degenerations of Calabi-Yau manifolds. We extend Theorem 1.1 in arXiv:1012.2940 by removing the condition on existence of crepant resolutions for Calabi-Yau varieties.

Gromov-Hausdorff collapsing of Calabi-Yau manifolds

This paper is a sequel to arXiv:1108.0967. We further study Gromov-Hausdorff collapsing limits of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on abelian fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds. Firstly, we show that in the same setup as arXiv:1108.0967, if the dimension of the base manifold is one, the limit metric space is homeomorphic to the base manifold. Secondly, if the fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds are Lagrangian fibrations of holomorphic symplectic manifolds, the metrics on the regular parts of the limits are special Kähler metrics. By combining these two results, we extend arXiv:math/0008018 to any fibered projective K3 surface without any assumption on the type of singular fibers.

Collapsing of abelian fibred Calabi-Yau manifolds

We study the collapsing behaviour of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a projective Calabi-Yau manifold which admits an abelian fibration, when the volume of the fibers approaches zero. We show that away from the critical locus of the fibration the metrics collapse with locally bounded curvature, and along the fibers the rescaled metrics become flat in the limit. The limit metric on the base minus the critical locus is locally isometric to an open dense subset of any Gromov-Hausdorff limit space of the Ricci-flat metrics. We then apply these results to study metric degenerations of families of polarized hyperkahler manifolds in the large complex structure limit. In this setting we prove an analog of a result of Gross-Wilson for K3 surfaces, which is motivated by the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow picture of mirror symmetry.

Continuity of Extremal Transitions and Flops for Calabi-Yau Manifolds

In this paper, we study the behavior of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds under algebraic geometric surgeries: extremal transitions or flops. We prove a version of Candelas and de la Ossa's conjecture: Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds related by extremal transitions and flops can be connected by a path consisting of continuous families of Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds and a compact metric space in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. In an essential step of the proof of our main result, the convergence of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds along a smoothing is established, which can be of independent interests.

Collapsing of Calabi-Yau manifolds and special lagrangian submanifolds

In this paper, the relationship between the existence of special lagrangian submanifolds and the collapsing of Calabi-Yau manifolds is studied. First, special lagrangian fibrations are constructed on some regions of bounded curvature and sufficiently collapsed in Ricci-flat Calabi-Yau manifolds. Then, in the opposite direction,it is shown that the existence of special lagrangian submanifolds with small volume implies the collapsing of some regions in the ambient Calabi-Yau manifolds.

Convergence of Calabi-Yau manifolds

In this paper, we study the convergence of Calabi-Yau manifolds under Kähler degeneration to orbifold singularities and complex degeneration to canonical singularities (including the conifold singularities), and the collapsing of a family of Calabi-Yau manifolds.

Non-singular solutions of normalized Ricci flow on noncompact manifolds of finite volume

The main result of this paper shows that, if $g(t)$ is a complete non-singular solution of the normalized Ricci flow on a noncompact 4-manifold $M$ of finite volume, then the Euler characteristic number $χ(M)\geq0$. Moreover, $χ(M)\neq 0$, there exist a sequence times $t_k\to\infty$, a double sequence of points $\{p_{k,l}\}_{l=1}^{N}$ and domains $\{U_{k,l}\}_{l=1}^{N}$ with $p_{k,l}\in U_{k,l}$ satisfying the followings: [(i)] $\dist_{g(t_k)}(p_{k,l_1},p_{k,l_2})\to\infty$ as $k\to\infty$, for any fixed $l_1\neq l_2$; [(ii)] for each $l$, $(U_{k,l},g(t_k),p_{k,l})$ converges in the $C_{loc}^\infty$ sense to a complete negative Einstein manifold $(M_{\infty,l},g_{\infty,l},p_{\infty,l})$ when $k\to\infty$; [(iii)] $\Vol_{g(t_{k})}(M\backslash\bigcup_{l=1}^{N}U_{k,l})\to0$ as $k\to\infty$.

Bounding sectional curvature along a Kähler-Ricci flow

If a normalized Kähler-Ricci flow $g(t),t\in[0,\infty),$ on a compact Kähler $n$-manifold, $n\geq 3$, of positive first Chern class satisfies $g(t)\in 2πc_{1}(M)$ and has $L^{n}$ curvature operator uniformly bounded, then the curvature operator will also uniformly bounded along the flow. Consequently the flow will converge along a subsequence to a Kähler-Ricci soliton.

Convergence of Kaehler-Ricci flow with integral curvature bound

Let $g(t)$, $t\in [0, +\infty)$, be a solution of the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow on a compact Kähler $n$-manifold $M$ with $c_{1}(M)>0$ and initial metric $g (0)\in 2πc_{1}(M)$. If there is a constant $C$ independent of $t$ such that $$ \int_{M}|Rm(g(t))|^{n}dv_{t}\leq C,$$ then, for any $t_{k}\to \infty$, a subsequence of $(M, g(t_{k}))$ converges to a compact orbifold $(X, h)$ with only finite many singular points $\{q_{j}\}$ in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense, where $h$ is a Kähler metric on $X\backslash \{q_{j}\}$ satisfying the Kähler-Ricci soliton equation, i.e. there is a smooth function $f$ such that $$Ric(h)-h=\nabla\bar{\nabla}f, {\rm and}\it \nabla \nabla f=\bar{\nabla} \bar{\nabla} f=0. $$

Maximum solutions of normalized Ricci flows on 4-manifolds

We consider maximum solution $g(t)$, $t\in [0, +\infty)$, to the normalized Ricci flow. Among other things, we prove that, if $(M, ω) $ is a smooth compact symplectic 4-manifold such that $b_2^+(M)>1$ and let $g(t),t\in[0,\infty)$, be a solution to (1.3) on $M$ whose Ricci curvature satisfies that $|\text{Ric}(g(t))|\leq 3$ and additionally $χ(M)=3 τ(M)>0$, then there exists an $m\in \mathbb{N}$, and a sequence of points $\{x_{j,k}\in M\}$, $j=1, ..., m$, satisfying that, by passing to a subsequence, $$(M, g(t_{k}+t), x_{1,k},..., x_{m,k}) \stackrel{d_{GH}}\longrightarrow (\coprod_{j=1}^m N_j, g_{\infty}, x_{1,\infty}, ...,, x_{m,\infty}),$$ $t\in [0, \infty)$, in the $m$-pointed Gromov-Hausdorff sense for any sequence $t_{k}\longrightarrow \infty$, where $(N_{j}, g_{\infty})$, $j=1,..., m$, are complete complex hyperbolic orbifolds of complex dimension 2 with at most finitely many isolated orbifold points. Moreover, the convergence is $C^{\infty}$ in the non-singular part of $\coprod_1^m N_{j}$ and $\text{Vol}_{g_{0}}(M)=\sum_{j=1}^{m}\text{Vol}_{g_{\infty}}(N_{j})$, where $χ(M)$ (resp. $τ(M)$) is the Euler characteristic (resp. signature) of $M$.

Non-singular solutions to the normalized Ricci flow equation

In this paper we study non-singular solutions of Ricci flow on a closed manifold of dimension at least 4. Amongst others we prove that, if M is a closed 4-manifold on which the normalized Ricci flow exists for all time t>0 with uniformly bounded sectional curvature, then the Euler characteristic $χ(M)\ge 0$. Moreover, the 4-manifold satisfies one of the following \noindent (i) M is a shrinking Ricci solition; \noindent (ii) M admits a positive rank F-structure; \noindent (iii) the Hitchin-Thorpe type inequality holds 2χ(M)\ge 3|τ(M)| where $χ(M)$ (resp. $τ(M)$) is the Euler characteristic (resp. signature) of M.

Perelman's λfunctional and the Seiberg-Witten equations

In this paper we study the supremum of Perelman's λ-functional {λ}_M(g) on Riemannian 4-manifold M by using the Seiberg-Witten equations. We prove among others that, for a compact Kähler-Einstein complex surface (M, J, g_{0}) with negative scalar curvature, (i) If g_{1} is a Riemannian metric on M with λ_{M}(g_{1})= λ_{M}(g_{0}), then Vol_{g_{1}}(M)\geq Vol_{g_{0}}(M). Moreover, the equality holds if and only if g_{1} is also a Kähler-Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature. (ii) If g_{t}, t\in [-1,1], is a family of Einstein metrics on M with initial metric g_{0}, then g_{t} is a Kähler-Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature.
