Non-Resonant Impulsively Stimulated Raman Scattering by a Terahertz Field: a Case Study of 1T-TaS2

Time-domain ultrafast and nonlinear terahertz spectroscopy techniques are recently applied to many condensed matter systems for investigating their collective excitations. In centrosymmetric systems, these collective modes are typically Raman-active and therefore do not couple directly to the terahertz electric field. The mechanism by which light-matter interaction realizes in these studies has not been explicitly discussed in detail. In this work, we perform terahertz pump - optical probe and terahertz third harmonic generation investigations on 1T-TaS2, a material exhibiting a rich charge-density-wave (CDW) phase diagram including the commensurate, nearly-commensurate and incommensurate CDW phases. The transition between these distinct states leaves a clear signature on the dynamical Raman response. We investigate how the Raman-active phonons couple to a broadband monocycle terahertz field as well as a narrowband multicycle terahertz field. Our results indicate that a modified impulsively stimulated Raman scattering mechanism involving two-photon absorption, also known as non-resonant Raman scattering, underlies the coherent excitation and observation of the lattice modes. These results are relevant for future spectroscopy investigation and coherent control of collective modes using low-energy terahertz field as well as cavity electrodynamical dressing of solids.

Dissecting coupled orders in a terahertz-driven electron-doped cuprate

The interplay between superconductivity and charge density wave has often been studied from an equilibrium point of view. For example, using static tuning knobs such as doping, magnetic field and pressure, superconductivity can be enhanced or suppressed. The resulting effect on the co-existing charge density wave order, if any, is judged by variations in its ground state properties such as the ordering temperature or the spatial correlation. Such an approach can be understood as coordinated static displacements of two coupled order parameters within a Ginzburg-Landau description, evincing their interplay as either co-operative or competing but does not provide further microscopic information about the interaction. In order to assess such information, we dynamically perturb both orders from equilibrium and observe their coupling directly in the time-domain. We show that high-field multicycle terahertz pulses drive both the Higgs amplitude fluctuations of the superconducting order as well as collective fluctuations of the charge order in an electron-doped cuprate, resulting in characteristic third harmonic generation. A notable time delay is manifested between their respective driven dynamics. We propose that this may signify the important energy scale describing their coupling or imply a terahertz field-depinned charge density wave that destroys macroscopic superconductivity. Our work demonstrates a holistic approach for investigating coupled superconducting and charge density wave orders, which may shed novel light on their intertwined presence and widespread fluctuations in many classes of unconventional superconductors.

1-D CNN-Based Online Signature Verification with Federated Learning

Online signature verification plays a pivotal role in security infrastructures. However, conventional online signature verification models pose significant risks to data privacy, especially during training processes. To mitigate these concerns, we propose a novel federated learning framework that leverages 1-D Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) for online signature verification. Furthermore, our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework regarding 1-D CNN and federated learning. Particularly, the experiment results highlight that our framework 1) minimizes local computational resources; 2) enhances transfer effects with substantial initialization data; 3) presents remarkable scalability. The centralized 1-D CNN model achieves an Equal Error Rate (EER) of 3.33% and an accuracy of 96.25%. Meanwhile, configurations with 2, 5, and 10 agents yield EERs of 5.42%, 5.83%, and 5.63%, along with accuracies of 95.21%, 94.17%, and 94.06%, respectively.

The Performance of VQE across a phase transition point in the $J_1$-$J_2$ model on kagome lattice

Variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is an efficient classical-quantum hybrid method to take advantage of quantum computers in the Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) era. In this work we test the performance of VQE by studying the $J_1$-$J_2$ anti-ferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the kagome lattice, which is found to display a first order phase transition at $J_2 / J_1 \approx 0.01$. By comparing the VQE states with the exact diagonalization results, we find VQE energies agree well with the exact values in most region of parameters for the 18-site system we studied. However, near the phase transition point, VQE tends to converge to the excited states when the number of variational parameters is not large enough. For the system studied in this work, this issue can be solved by either increasing the number of parameters or by initializing the parameters with converged values for $J_2/J_1$ away from the phase transition point. Our results provide useful guidance for the practical application of VQE on real quantum computers to study strongly correlated quantum many-body systems.
