Chiral enhancement in the vector-like fourth family: Case of $b \to s \gamma$

We demonstrate that a vector-like fourth family of quarks induces a genuine chiral enhancement in $b\to s\gamma$, which is absent in the Standard Model (SM). The coexistence of doublet and singlet states allows the chirality flip to occur inside the loop, leading to contributions proportional to the heavy vector-like mass. The resulting amplitude is enhanced by a factor $\overline{\lambda}_d v_H/m_b$, which can be as large as $\mathcal{O}(40)$ for moderate Yukawa couplings. This leads to sizable deviation from the SM prediction even for $\mathcal{O}(\mathrm{TeV})$ vector-like quark masses and small mixing angles. We find that $\mathrm{Br}(\overline{B}\to X_s\gamma)$ provides the most stringent constraint on this scenario among a wide range of precision observables.

Novel bounds on neutrino portal dark matter from leptonic meson decays

We investigate the potential of leptonic meson decays $M \to \ell \bar\nu_\ell$, where $M$ is a pseudo-scalar meson, as a probe of neutrino portal dark matter. The model of our focus features a neutral fermion $\psi$ and scalar $\phi$, which are coupled predominantly to neutrinos in the form ${\cal L} \supset \lambda\,\overline\nu_L\,\phi\,\psi_R$. This interaction generates two corrections to the $M \to \ell \bar\nu_\ell$ observables. The first one is a novel three-body decay process $M \to \ell \bar\psi\phi$. This process is enabled by the splitting of the off-shell anti-neutrino $\bar\nu_\ell$ into $\psi$ and $\phi$ in the $M \to \ell \bar\nu_\ell$ diagram. The helicity suppression in $M \to \ell \bar\nu_\ell$ is absent in the three-body process, thereby forming a potentially large contribution to real experimental results, provided $\psi$ and $\phi$ are invisible. The second one is one-loop radiative corrections to the weak vertex $W\ell \bar\nu_\ell$, which do not modify the charged lepton spectrum but lead to enhancement or suppression of the partial $M \to \ell \bar\nu_\ell$ decay width. To demonstrate the ability of the leptonic meson decays to probe the neutrino portal dark matter, we compute two corrections analytically and compare the modified meson branching ratios with the experimental data on the lepton flavor universality of pion and Kaon decays. The resulting constraints turn out to surpass the existing bounds in a large part of parameter spaces.

Dirac neutrino and dark matter in left-right symmetric models

We study neutrino mass generation and dark matter in a left-right symmetric model. The model is based on an $SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge theory with a softly broken parity symmetry. Masses of the charged leptons and neutrinos are generated radiatively at one-loop and three-loop level respectively, through their interactions with newly introduced neutral fermion and scalar particles. A mass hierarchy of those new particles is required to reproduce the observed patterns of the charged lepton spectrum and neutrino oscillation data. The resulting light particles, whose mass can be as light as GeV, serve as good dark matter candidates. The phenomenology of such dark matter candidates is governed by their interactions to left- or right-handed neutrinos. We study physics of dark matter with several benchmark parameter sets that reproduce the realistic neutrino mass matrix structure, and identify viable parameter spaces.

96 GeV Scalar Boson in the 2HDM with U(1)_H Gauge Symmetry

In this paper, we study two Higgs doublet models with gauged U(1)_H symmetry, motivated by the excesses around 96 GeV reported by the CMS collaboration in the searches for light resonances decaying to two photons and two \tau's. In this model, one Higgs doublet field is charged under the U(1)_H symmetry to avoid tree-level flavor changing neutral currents. The extra gauge symmetry requires extra chiral fermions, to satisfy the anomaly-free conditions. We analyze the signals of the light resonances, taking into account the contribution of the extra fermions, and discuss the consistency with the experimental results in this model.

A closer look at isodoublet vector leptoquark solution to $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomaly

We discuss a model with a SU$(2)_L$ doublet vector leptoquark (LQ), motivated by the recent experimental results relating to the lepton universality of $\overline{B} \to D^{(*)} τ\overlineν_τ$. We find that scalar operators predicted by the LQ are favored to explain the deviations, taking into account the recent LHCb result. We investigate the extensive phenomenology of the model and conclude that $B_s\toτ\overlineτ$, $B\to Kτ\overlineτ$, $B_u\to τ\overline ν_τ$ and high-$p_T$ di-$τ$ lepton signatures at the LHC will probe the interesting parameter region in the near future.

Light mass window of inert doublet dark matter with lepton portal interaction

We study phenomenology of a light scalar dark matter (DM). In the model, there are an inert doublet scalar and a singlet Dirac fermion $ψ$, both charged under a global $Z_2$ symmetry. The mass of the lightest inert scalar $H$ can be lighter than 10 GeV by imposing appropriate relations between three scalar quartic couplings. The lightest $Z_2$ odd particle is stable and DM. In this paper, focusing on the parameter space where $H$ is lighter than $ψ$ and is DM, we discuss DM physics related to relic density, direct detection, indirect detection, collider searches and other cosmological observations. We clarify differences from the case where $ψ$ is instead DM, which has been focused on in the previous works.

Light lepton portal dark matter meets the LHC

We examine the sensitivity of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to light lepton portal dark matter with its mass below 10$\,$GeV. The model features an extra doublet scalar field and singlet Dirac dark matter, which have Yukawa interactions with left-handed leptons. To correctly produce the dark matter abundance via the thermal freeze-out, a large mass splitting among the extra scalars is required, thus providing a light neutral scalar below ${\cal O}(10)$GeV and heavy neutral and charged scalars at the electroweak scale. In this paper, we focus on the electroweak pair-production of the extra scalars with subsequent model-specific scalar decays and evaluate the current constraints with the LHC Run$\,$2 data and the discovery potential at the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). It turns out that a large part of the theoretically allowed parameter space can be tested at the HL-LHC by taking into account complementarity between slepton searches and mono-$Z$ plus missing transverse energy search. We also discuss same-sign charged scalar production as a unique prediction of the model, and the implication of the collider searches in the thermal dark matter scenario.

Chasing the two-Higgs doublet model in the di-Higgs production

We investigate the di-Higgs production at the Large Hadron Collider in the two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM). In particular, we study the production of an extra neutral Higgs boson $ϕ$ in association with the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson $h$ in the Higgs alignment limit. We analyze two scenarios where the additional Higgs $ϕ$ is CP-even or -odd state with a large top-Yukawa interaction. The leading contribution of this production comes from the top-quark loop-induced gluon-fusion channel $gg \to hϕ$. The measurement of the $hϕ$ production can probe the quartic couplings in the Higgs potential as well as the top-Yukawa couplings. Imposing both theoretical constraints (from the perturbative unitarity and the vacuum stability bounds) and experimental bounds (from the SM Higgs and flavor physics measurements) on the 2HDM parameter space, we calculate the production cross-section of $gg \to hϕ$. Furthermore, we scrutinize these processes in the parameter spaces where the CMS di-tau and di-photon excesses around 100$\,$GeV, and/or the muon $g-2$ anomaly can be accommodated.

The direct CP violation in a general two Higgs doublet model

In this paper, we study the CP violating processes in a general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) with tree-level flavor changing neutral currents. In this model, sizable Yukawa couplings involving top and charm quarks are still allowed by the collider and flavor experiments, while the other couplings are strongly constrained experimentally. The sizable couplings, in general, have imaginary parts and could largely contribute to the CP violating observables concerned with the $B$ and $K$ mesons. In particular, the contribution may be so large that it affects the direct CP violating $K$ meson decay, where the discrepancy between the experimental result and the Standard Model prediction is reported. We discuss how well the anomaly is resolved in the 2HDM, based on study of the other flavor observables. We also propose the way to test our 2HDM at the LHC.

Scrutinizing the 95-100 GeV di-tau excess in the top associated process

Recently, the CMS collaboration has reported a di-tau excess with a local significance of 2.6-3.1$σ$ where the invariant mass is $m_{ττ}=$95-100 GeV. This excess can be interpreted as a light scalar boson that couples to the third generation fermions, particularly top and $τ$. Based on the simplest model that can account for the CMS di-tau excess, we evaluate experimental sensitivities to the additional light resonance, using the results reported by the ATLAS collaboration. We see that a search for the top-quark associated production of the SM Higgs boson that decays into $τ\barτ$ sets a strong model-independent limit. We also find that the CP-even scalar interpretation of the light resonance is excluded by the ATLAS results, while the CP-odd interpretation is not.

Light mass window of lepton portal dark matter

We explore a novel possibility that dark matter has a light mass below 1GeV in a lepton portal dark matter model. There are Yukawa couplings involving dark matter, left-handed leptons and an extra scalar doublet in the model. In the light mass region, dark matter is thermally produced via its annihilation into neutrinos. In order to obtain the correct relic abundance and avoid collider bounds, a neutral scalar is required to be light while charged scalars need to be heavier than the electroweak scale. Such a mass spectrum is realized by adjusting quartic couplings in the scalar potential or introducing an extra singlet scalar. It turns out that the mass region of 10MeV-10GeV is almost free from experimental and observational constraints. We also point out that searches for extra neutrino flux from galactic dark matter annihilations with neutrino telescopes are the best way to test our model.

Importance of vector leptoquark-scalar box diagrams in Pati-Salam unification with vector-like families

We study lepton flavor violating meson decays induced by box diagrams involving a vector leptoquark (LQ) and scalar fields in Pati-Salam (PS) unification with vector-like families. The vector LQ corresponds to the massive gauge boson associated with the PS gauge symmetry breaking and the scalar fields are the physical degrees of freedom of the PS breaking field. The LQ generally causes the rapid flavor violating decays, such as $K_L \to μe$, at the tree-level unless its mass scale is higher than PeV scale. The vector-like families are introduced to suppress the tree-level contributions mediated by the LQ and explain the realistic fermion mass matrices. In this paper, we point out that there are inevitable one-loop contributions to those meson decays from the box diagrams mediated by both one LQ and one scalar field, even if the tree-level contributions are suppressed. We consider a concrete model for demonstration, and find that the vector-like fermion masses have an upper bound for a given LQ mass when the one-loop induced meson decays are consistent with the experimental limits. The vector-like fermion mass should be lighter than 3 TeV for 20 TeV LQ, if a combination of the couplings does not suppress $K_L \to μe$ decay. Our findings would illustrate importance of the box diagrams involving both LQ and physical modes of symmetry breaking scalars in generic models.

$W$ boson mass and muon $g-2$ in a lepton portal dark matter model

We study a lepton portal dark matter model, motivated by the deviation of the $W$ boson mass reported by the CDF collaboration. We introduce vector-like leptons and a scalar dark matter (DM) which exclusively couples to the extra leptons and muon. The one-loop corrections induced by the new particles can shift the $W$ boson mass. Besides, the discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the DM density can simultaneously be explained by this setup, if the vector-like lepton is lighter than 200 GeV and nearly degenerate with the DM particle. We also see that the constraints on such a light extra lepton from the collider experiments can be evaded due to the existence of the DM particle.

Higgs flavor phenomenology in a supersymmetric left-right model with parity

In this paper, we focus on the supersymmetric model with left-right (LR) symmetry, that is especially proposed in our previous work [1]. In this model, there are four Higgs doublets in order to realize the Standard Model (SM) fermion masses and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix. The heavy Higgs doublets unavoidably have flavor changing couplings to the SM fermions and induce flavor-changing neutral currents at tree level. We study broader parameter space than the previous work with including the renormalization group corrections to the Yukawa couplings between the LR breaking scale, $\mathcal{O}(10^{13})$ GeV, and the supersymmetry breaking scales, $\mathcal{O}(100)$ TeV. The CP violating observable in $K$-$\overline{K}$ mixing, $ε_K$, strongly constrains the model, so that heavy Higgs mass should be heavier than $\mathcal{O}(100)$ TeV. We study the lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes setting heavy Higgs masses to be 170 TeV. The branching ratios of $μ\to 3 e$ and the $μ$-$e$ conversion can be larger than $10^{-16}$ that could be covered by the future experiments. We also study the degree of fine-tuning in the parameter region that predicts testable LFV processes.

TeV-scale vector leptoquark from Pati-Salam unification with vectorlike families

In this paper, we show an explicit way to realize a TeV-scale vector leptoquark from the Pati-Salam (PS) unification with extra vectorlike families. The leptoquark mass is constrained to be heavier than PeV-scale by the measurement of a flavor violating kaon decay, $K_L \to μe$, in conventional models. This strong constraint can be avoided by introducing vectorlike families consistently with the quark and lepton masses and CKM and PMNS matrices. The other flavor violating processes are also suppressed. In this model, the vector leptoquark can be sufficiently light to explain the recent $b\to sμμ$ anomaly, while the $b\to cτν$ anomaly is difficult to be explained due to the strong constraints from the $Z^\prime$ boson and vectorlike quark searches at the LHC. When the $b\to sμμ$ anomaly is explained, we show that $\mathcal{O}({0.2})$ % tuning is required in the fermion matrix, the future experiments in $μ\to eγ$ and $μ$-$e$ conversions will cover the most available parameter space, and sizable neutral meson mixings, induced by the extra Higgs doublets, are unavoidable.

Current status and muon $g-2$ explanation of lepton portal dark matter

In this paper, we summarize phenomenology in lepton portal dark matter (DM) models, where DM couples to leptons and extra leptons/sleptons. There are several possible setups: complex/real scalar DM and Dirac/Majorana fermion DM. In addition, there are choices for the lepton chirality that couples to DM. We discuss the prediction of each model and compare it with the latest experimental constraints from the DM, the LHC, and the flavor experiments. We also propose a simple setup to achieve the discrepancy in the anomalous magnetic moment of muon.

Top FCNC induced by a Z' boson

We consider a Z' model where the Z' boson couples only to up and top quarks. As a simple setup, one can consider a family-dependent $U(1)'$ symmetry, under which only right-handed up-type quarks are charged. After symmetry breaking, the right-handed quarks mix with each other and top flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNCs) mediated by the Z' boson can be generated at tree level. We take into account several processes to probe the top FCNCs, and find that the same sign top quark pair production or the triple top quark production is the most capable of testing the top FCNCs. We also consider a few non-FCNC processes to probe the Z' boson, for example, dijet production at the LHC.

Probing $μτ$ flavor-violating solutions for the muon $g-2$ anomaly at Belle II

The discrepancy between the measured value and the Standard Model prediction of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most important issues in the particle physics. It is known that introducing a mediator boson X with the $μτ$ lepton flavor violating (LFV) couplings is one good solution to explain the discrepancy, due to the $τ$ mass enhancement in the one-loop correction. In this paper, we study the signal of this model, i.e. the same-sign leptons, in the Belle II experiment, assuming the flavor-diagonal couplings are suppressed. We show that the Belle II experiment is highly sensitive to the scenario in the mediator mass range of ${\cal O}(1-10)$~GeV, using the $e^+e^- \to μ^\pmτ^\mp X \toμ^\pm μ^\pm τ^\mp τ^\mp$ process induced by the $X$.
