Entanglement between deconfinement transition and chiral symmetry restoration

We extend the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model by introducing an effective four-quark vertex depending on Polyakov loop. The effective vertex generates entanglement interactions between Polyakov loop and chiral condensate. The new model is consistent with lattice QCD data at imaginary quark-number chemical potential and real and imaginary isospin chemical potentials, particularly on strong correlation between the chiral and deconfinement transitions and also on the quark-mass dependence of the order of the Roberge-Weiss endpoint predicted by lattice QCD very lately. We investigate an influence of the entanglement interactions on a location of the tricritical point at real isospin chemical potential and a location of the critical endpoint at real quark-number chemical potential.

C and P violations in the PNJL model

Using the PNJL model, we investigate C and P violations when theta =pi and Theta =mu/(iT)=π/3, where T, theta and mu are the temperature, the parameter of theta-vacuum and the quark number chemical potential, respectively. It is shown that the C violation and the P restoration happen almost simultaneously at theta=pi and Theta =pi/3, if the deconfinement and the chiral symmetry restoration happen almost simultaneously at theta =Theta =0.

QCD phase diagram at imaginary baryon and isospin chemical potentials

We explore the phase diagram of two-flavor QCD at imaginary values of baryon and isospin chemical potentials analyzing the thermodynamic potential of QCD analytically and that of the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model numerically. QCD has no pion condensation at imaginary baryon and isospin chemical potentials, and therefore has discrete symmetries that are not present at real baryon and isospin chemical potentials. The PNJL model possesses all the discrete symmetries. The PNJL model can reproduce qualitatively lattice QCD data presented very lately.

Roberge-Weiss phase transition and its endpoint

The Roberge-Weiss (RW) phase transition in the imaginary chemical potential region is analyzed by the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model. In the RW phase transition, the charge-conjugation symmetry is spontaneously broken, while the extended Z3 symmetry (the RW periodicity) is preserved. The RW transition is of second order at the endpoint. At the zero chemical potential, a crossover deconfinement transition appears as a remnant of the second-order RW phase transition at the endpoint, while the charge-conjugation symmetry is always preserved.

Average phase factor in the PNJL model

The average phase factor of the QCD determinant is evaluated at finite quark chemical potential (μ_q) with the two-flavor version of the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model with the scalar-type eight-quark interaction. For μ_q larger than half the pion mass at vacuum m_π, the average phase factor is finite only when the Polyakov loop is larger than 0.5, indicating that lattice QCD is feasible only in the deconfinement phase. A critical endpoint (CEP) lies in the region of the zero average phase factor. The scalar-type eight-quark interaction makes it shorter a relative distance of the CEP to the boundary of the region. For μ_q < m_π/2, the PNJL model with dynamical mesonic fluctuations can reproduce lattice QCD data below the critical temperature.

Correlations among discontinuities in QCD phase diagram

We show, in general, that when a discontinuity of either zeroth-order or first-order takes place in an order parameter such as the chiral condensate, discontinuities of the same order emerge in other order parameters such as the Polyakov loop. A condition for the coexistence theorem to be valid is clarified. Consequently, only when the condition breaks down, zeroth-order and first-order discontinuities can coexist on a phase boundary. We show with the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model that such a type of coexistence is realized in the imaginary chemical potential region of the QCD phase diagram. We also present examples of coexistence of the same-order discontinuities in the real chemical potential region.

Meson mass at real and imaginary chemical potentials

The chemical-potential dependence of pi and sigma meson masses is analyzed at both real and imaginary chemical potentials, $μ_\mathrm{R}$ and $μ_\mathrm{I}$, by using the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model that possesses both the extended ${\mathbb Z}_3$ symmetry and the chiral symmetry. In the $μ_\mathrm{I}$ region, the meson masses have the Roberge-Weiss periodicity. Assuming that the meson masses will be measured at finite $μ_\mathrm{I}$ by lattice QCD in future, we simulate how meson masses at finite $μ_\mathrm{R}$ are extracted from those at finite $μ_\mathrm{I}$, and propose a reliable extraction method.

Determination of QCD phase diagram from the imaginary chemical potential region

We test the reliability of the the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model, comparing the model result with the lattice data at nonzero imaginary chemical potential. The PNJL model with the vector-type four-quark and scalar-type eight-quark interactions reproduces the lattice data on the pseudocritical temperatures of the deconfinement and chiral phase transitions. The QCD phase diagram in the real chemical potential region is predicted by the PNJL model. The critical endpoint survives, even if the vector-type four-quark interaction is taken into account.

Vector-type four-quark interaction and its impact on QCD phase structure

Effects of the vector-type four-quark interaction on QCD phase structure are investigated in the imaginary chemical potential region, by using the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model with the extended Z3 symmetry. In the course to this end, we clarify analytically the Roberge-Weiss periodicity and symmetry properties of various quantities under the existence of a vector-type four-quark interaction. In the imaginary chemical potential region, the chiral condensate and the quark number density are sensitive to the strength of the interaction. Based on this result, we propose a possibility to determine the strength of the vector-type interaction, which largely affects QCD phase structure in the real chemical potential region, by comparing the results of lattice simulations and effective model calculations in the imaginary chemical potential region.

Phase diagram in the imaginary chemical potential region and extended Z3 symmetry

Phase transitions in the imaginary chemical potential region are studied by the Polyakov loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model that possesses the extended Z3 symmetry. The extended Z3 invariant quantities such as the partition function, the chiral condensate and the modifed Polyakov loop have the Roberge-Weiss (RW) periodicity. There appear four types of phase transitions; deconfinement, chiral, Polykov-loop RW and chiral RW transitions. The orders of the chiral and deconfinement transitions depend on the presence or absence of current quark mass, but those of the Polykov-loop RW and chiral RW transitions do not. The scalar-type eightquark interaction newly added in the model makes the chiral transition line shift to the vicinity of the deconfiment transition line.

Polyakov loop extended NJL model with imaginary chemical potential

The Polyakov loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model with imaginary chemical potential is studied. The model possesses the extended ${\mathbb Z}_{3}$ symmetry that QCD does. Quantities invariant under the extended ${\mathbb Z}_{3}$ symmetry, such as the partition function, the chiral condensate and the modified Polyakov loop, have the Roberge-Weiss (RW) periodicity. The phase diagram of confinement/deconfinement transition derived with the PNJL model is consistent with the RW prediction on it and the results of lattice QCD. The phase diagram of chiral transition is also presented by the PNJL model.
