On global ACC for foliated threefolds

In this paper, we prove the rational coefficient case of the global ACC for foliated threefolds. Specifically, we consider any lc foliated log Calabi-Yau triple $(X,\mathcal{F},B)$ of dimension $3$ whose coefficients belong to a set $Γ$ of rational numbers satisfying the descending chain condition, and prove that the coefficients of $B$ belong to a finite set depending only on $Γ$. To prove our main result, we introduce the concept of generalized foliated quadruples, which is a mixture of foliated triples and Birkar-Zhang's generalized pairs. With this concept, we establish a canonical bundle formula for foliations in any dimension. As for applications, we extend Shokurov's global index conjecture in the classical MMP to foliated triples and prove this conjecture for threefolds with nonzero boundaries and for surfaces. Additionally, we introduce the theory of rational polytopes for functional divisors on foliations and prove some miscellaneous results.

Practical Continuous-variable Quantum Key Distribution with Feasible Optimization Parameters

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) offers an approach to achieve a potential high secret key rate (SKR) in metropolitan areas. There are several challenges in developing a practical CV-QKD system from the laboratory to the real world. One of the most significant points is that it is really hard to adapt different practical optical fiber conditions for CV-QKD systems with unified hardware. Thus, how to improve the performance of practical CV-QKD systems in the field without modification of the hardware is very important. Here, a systematic optimization method, combining the modulation variance and error correction matrix optimization, is proposed to improve the performance of a practical CV-QKD system with a restricted capacity of postprocessing. The effect of restricted postprocessing capacity on the SKR is modeled as a nonlinear programming problem with modulation variance as an optimization parameter, and the selection of an optimal error correction matrix is studied under the same scheme. The results show that the SKR of a CV-QKD system can be improved by 24% and 200% compared with previous frequently used optimization methods theoretically with a transmission distance of 50 km. Furthermore, the experimental results verify the feasibility and robustness of the proposed method, where the achieved optimal SKR achieved practically deviates <1.6% from the theoretical optimal value. Our results pave the way to deploy high-performance CV-QKD in the real world.

High-throughput decoder of quasi-cyclic LDPC codes with limited precision for continuous-variable quantum key distribution systems

More than Mbps secret key rate was demonstrated for continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) systems, but real-time postprocessing is not allowed, which is restricted by the throughput of the error correction decoding in postprocessing. In this paper, a high-throughput FPGA-based quasi-cyclic LDPC decoder is proposed and implemented to support Mbps real-time secret key rate generation for CV-QKD for the first time. A residual bit error correction algorithm is used to solve the problem of high frame errors rate (FER) caused by the limited precision of the decoder. Specifically, real-time high-speed decoding for CV-QKD systems with typical code rates 0.2 and 0.1 is implemented on a commercial FPGA, and two throughputs of 360.92Mbps and 194.65Mbps are achieved, respectively, which can support 17.97 Mbps and 2.48 Mbps real-time generation of secret key rates under typical transmission distances of 25km and 50km, correspondingly. The proposed method paves the way for high-rate real-time CV-QKD deployment in secure metropolitan area network.

On boundedness of divisors computing minimal log discrepancies for surfaces

Let $Γ$ be a finite set, and $X\ni x$ a fixed klt germ. For any lc germ $(X\ni x,B:=\sum_{i} b_iB_i)$ such that $b_i\in Γ$, Nakamura's conjecture, which is equivalent to the ACC conjecture for minimal log discrepancies for fixed germs, predicts that there always exists a prime divisor $E$ over $X\ni x$, such that $a(E,X,B)={\rm{mld}}(X\ni x,B)$, and $a(E,X,0)$ is bounded from above. We extend Nakamura's conjecture to the setting that $X\ni x$ is not necessarily fixed and $Γ$ satisfies the DCC, and show it holds for surfaces. We also find some sufficient conditions for the boundedness of $a(E,X,0)$ for any such $E$.

Shaping contactless forces through anomalous acoustic scattering

Waves impart momentum and exert force on obstacles in their path. The transfer of wave momentum is a fundamental mechanism for contactless manipulation, yet the rules of conventional scattering intrinsically limit the radiation force based on the shape and the size of the manipulated object. Here, we show that this intrinsic limit can be overcome for acoustic waves with subwavelength-structured metasurfaces, where the force becomes controllable by the arrangement of surface features, independent of the object's overall shape and size. Harnessing such anomalous metasurface scattering, we demonstrate complex actuation phenomena: self-guidance, where a metasurface object is autonomously guided by an acoustic wave, and contactless pulling, where a metasurface object is pulled by the wave. Our results show that bringing metasurface physics, and its full arsenal of tools, to the domain of mechanical manipulation opens the door to diverse actuation mechanisms that are beyond the limits of traditional wave-matter interactions.

Secure two-way fiber-optic time transfer against sub-ns asymmetric delay attack

Two-way fiber-optic time transfer is a promising precise time synchronization technique with sub-nanosecond accuracy. However, asymmetric delay attack is a serious threat which cannot be prevent by any encryption method. In this paper, a dynamic model based scheme is proposed to defense the sub-nanosecond asymmetric delay attack. A threshold is set according to the estimated time difference by a two-state clock model where the fixed frequency difference is excluded from the time difference to detect the asymmetric delay attack which is smaller than the time difference induced by the fixed frequency difference. Theoretical simulation and experimental demonstration are implemented to prove the feasibility of the scheme. A two-way fiber-optic time transfer system with time stability with 24.5ps, 3.98ps, and 2.95ps at 1s, 10s, and 100s averaging time is shown under sub-ns asymmetric time delay attack experimentally. The proposed method provides a promising secure sub-ns precise time synchronization technique against asymmetric delay attack.

ACC for minimal log discrepancies of terminal threefolds

We prove that the ACC conjecture for minimal log discrepancies holds for threefolds in $[1-δ,+\infty)$, where $δ>0$ only depends on the coefficient set. We also study Reid's general elephant for pairs, and show Shokurov's conjecture on the existence of $(ε,n)$-complements for threefolds for any $ε\geq 1$. As a key important step, we prove the uniform boundedness of divisors computing minimal log discrepancies for terminal threefolds. We show the ACC for threefold canonical thresholds, and that the set of accumulation points of threefold canonical thresholds is equal to $\{0\}\cup\{\frac{1}{n}\}_{n\in\mathbb Z_{\ge 2}}$ as well.

Shokurov's conjecture on conic bundles with canonical singularities

A conic bundle is a contraction $X\to Z$ between normal varieties of relative dimension $1$ such that $-K_X$ is relatively ample. We prove a conjecture of Shokurov which predicts that, if $X\to Z$ is a conic bundle such that $X$ has canonical singularities and $Z$ is $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein, then $Z$ is always $\frac{1}{2}$-lc, and the multiplicities of the fibers over codimension $1$ points are bounded from above by $2$. Both values $\frac{1}{2}$ and $2$ are sharp. This is achieved by solving a more general conjecture of Shokurov on singularities of bases of lc-trivial fibrations of relative dimension $1$ with canonical singularities.

Correlated Insulating States and Transport Signature of Superconductivity in Twisted Trilayer Graphene Moiré of Moiré Superlattices

Layers of two-dimensional materials stacked with a small twist-angle give rise to beating periodic patterns on a scale much larger than the original lattice, referred to as a moiré superlattice. When the stacking involves more than two layers with independent twist angles between adjacent layers, it generates moiré of moiré superlattices, with multiple length scales that control the system's behavior. Here we demonstrate these effects of a high-order moiré superlattice in twisted trilayer graphene with two consecutive small twist angles. We report correlated insulating states near the half filling of the moiré of moiré superlattice at an extremely low carrier density (~1010 cm-2), near which we also report a zero-resistance transport behavior typically expected in a 2D superconductor. Moreover, the temperature dependence of the measured resistances at full-occupancy (v = -4 and v = 4) states are semi-metallic, distinct from the insulating behavior of twisted bilayer systems, providing the first demonstration of emergent correlated transport behaviors from continuous, non-isolated higher-order moiré flat bands. Our findings shed new insights into the microscopic mechanisms of moiré correlated states and provide the impetus for future studies on this material platform, such as the demonstration of phase coherence and Meissner-like effect.

Image polaritons in boron nitride for extreme polariton confinement with low losses

Polaritons in two-dimensional materials provide extreme light confinement that is difficult to achieve with metal plasmonics. However, such tight confinement inevitably increases optical losses through various damping channels. Here we demonstrate that hyperbolic phonon polaritons in hexagonal boron nitride can overcome this fundamental trade-off. Among two observed polariton modes, featuring a symmetric and antisymmetric charge distribution, the latter exhibits lower optical losses and tighter polariton confinement. Far-field excitation and detection of this high-momenta mode becomes possible with our resonator design that can boost the coupling efficiency via virtual polariton modes with image charges that we dub image polaritons. Using these image polaritons, we experimentally observe a record-high effective index of up to 132 and quality factors as high as 501. Further, our phenomenological theory suggests an important role of hyperbolic surface scattering in the damping process of hyperbolic phonon polaritons.

Witten Deformation And Some Topics Relating To It

This is a simple reading report of professor Weiping Zhang's lectures. In this article we will mainly introduce the basic ideas of Witten deformation, which were first introduced by Edward Witten on, and some applications of it. The first part of this article mainly focuses on deformation of Dirac operators and some important analytic facts about the deformed Dirac operators. In the second part of this article some applications of Witten deformation will be given, to be more specific, an analytic proof of Poincar$\acute{e}$-Hopf index theorem and Real Morse Inequilities will be given. Also we will use Witten deformation to prove that the Thom Smale complex is quasi-isomorphism to the de-Rham complex (Witten suggested that Thom Smale complex can be recovered from his deformation and his suggestion was first realized by Helffer and Sj$\ddot{o}$strand, the proof in this article is given by Bismut and Zhang). And in the last part an analytic proof of Atiyah vanishing theorem via Witten deformation will be given.
