Testing $\Lambda$CDM with ANN-Reconstructed Expansion History from Cosmic Chronometers

In modern cosmology, the rapid growth of high-precision observational data, along with significant theoretical advances, has intensified the challenge of identifying a robust, model-independent framework to probe the expansion history of the Universe. In this work, we propose a novel artificial neural network (ANN)-based framework for the non-parametric reconstruction of the late-time cosmic expansion. The framework is trained and validated through a three-stage screening pipeline prior to its application to real observational data. As a demonstration of its effectiveness, we reconstruct the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ using the latest cosmic chronometer measurements. Our results show that the reconstructed expansion history aligns with the predictions of the $\Lambda$CDM model within observational uncertainties, thereby supporting the robustness and reliability of the proposed approach.

Energy conditions of bouncing solutions in quadratic curvature gravity coupled with a scalar field

We examine the validity of classical energy conditions in nonsingular bouncing cosmological solutions arising in quadratic curvature gravity minimally coupled to a scalar field. Focusing on the null, weak, strong, and dominant energy conditions, we perform a systematic analysis under two distinct formulations of the energy-momentum tensor. In the first approach, the energy-momentum tensor is assumed to be sourced solely by the scalar field, whereas in the second, an effective energy-momentum tensor is constructed that incorporates the higher-curvature corrections characterizing deviations from general relativity. Our results reveal that, in the scalar-field description, the null, weak, and dominant energy conditions remain satisfied throughout the cosmological evolution, while the strong energy condition is necessarily violated during the bounce phase, enabling the avoidance of the initial singularity. In contrast, when the effective energy-momentum tensor is considered, all four energy conditions are violated near the bounce, highlighting the intrinsically non-Einsteinian nature of the underlying gravitational dynamics. These findings clarify the role of higher-order curvature terms in facilitating nonsingular cosmological bounces, providing important insights into the energy condition violations required in modified theories of gravity.

Orthogonal Splitting in Degenerate Higher-order Scalar-tensor Theories

We explore a comprehensive analysis of the formalism governing the gravitational field equations in degenerate higher-order scalar-tensor theories. The propagation of these theories in the vacuum has a maximum of three degrees of freedom and is at most quadratic in the second derivative of the scalar field. We investigate the gravitational field equation for spherically symmetric anisotropic matter content along with its non-conserved equations. Our analysis focuses on the evaluation of structure scalars to assess their behavior under Einstein's modification. We present a realistic mass contribution that sheds light on both geometric mass and total energy budget evaluations for celestial objects. Ultimately, we discuss two viable models restricted as minimal complexity and conformal flatness to enhance the scientific contribution of the present manuscript.

A Stretchable Electrostatic Tactile Surface

Tactile sensation is essential for humans to recognize objects. Various devices have been developed in the past for tactile presentation by electrostatic force, which are easy to configure devices, but there is currently no such device that features stretchability. Considering that the device is worn over the joints of a human body or robot, it is extremely important that the device itself be stretchable. In this study, we propose a stretchable electrostatic tactile surface comprising a stretchable transparent electrode and a stretchable insulating film that can be stretched to a maximum of 50%. This means that when attached to the human body, this surface can respond to the expansion and contraction that occur due to joint movements. This surface can also provide tactile information in response to deformation such as pushing and pulling. As a basic investigation, we measured the lower limit of voltage that can be perceived by changing the configuration of the surface and evaluated the states of stretching and contraction. We also investigated and modeled the relationship between the voltage and the perceived intensity.

Imprints of dark matter on the structural properties of minimally deformed compact stars

In this manuscript, we investigate the possibility of constructing anisotropic dark matter compact stars motivated by the Einasto density profile. This work develops analytical solutions for an anisotropic fluid sphere within the framework of the well-known Adler-Finch-Skea metric. This toy model incorporates an anisotropic fluid distribution that includes a dark matter component. We use the minimal geometric deformation scheme within the framework of gravitational decoupling to incorporate anisotropy into the pressure profile of the stellar system. In this context, we model the temporal constituent of the $\Theta$-field sector to characterize the contribution of dark matter within the gravitational matter source. We present an alternative approach to studying anisotropic self-gravitating structures. This approach incorporates additional field sources arising from gravitational decoupling, which act as the dark component. We explicitly verify whether the proposed model satisfies all the requirements for describing realistic compact structures in detail. We conclude that the modeling of the Einasto density model with the Adler-Finch-Skea metric gives rise to the formation of well-behaved and viable astrophysical results that can be employed to model the dark matter stellar configurations.

Collapsing dynamics of relativistic fluid in modified gravity admitting a conformal Killing vector

The collapsing dynamics of relativistic fluid are explored in $f(R)$ gravity in a detailed systematic manner for the non-static spherically symmetric spacetime satisfying the equation of the conformal Killing vector. With quasi-homologous condition and diminishing complexity factor condition, exact solutions for dissipative as well as for non-dissipative systems are found and the astrophysical applications of these exact solutions are discussed. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that $f(R)=R$, which is the extensive restriction of $f(R)$ gravity, prior solutions of the collapsing fluid in general relativity, can be retrieved.

Magnetic Field of Solar Dark Filaments Obtained from He I 10830 Angstrom Spectro-polarimetric Observation

Solar filaments are dense and cool plasma clouds in the solar corona. They are supposed to be supported in a dip of coronal magnetic field. However, the models are still under argument between two types of the field configuration; one is the normal polarity model proposed by Kippenhahn & Schlueter (1957), and the other is the reverse polarity model proposed by Kuperus & Raadu (1974). To understand the mechanism that the filaments become unstable before the eruption, it is critical to know the magnetic structure of solar filaments. In this study, we performed the spectro-polarimetric observation in the He I (10830 angstrom) line to investigate the magnetic field configuration of dark filaments. The observation was carried out with the Domeless Solar Telescope at Hida Observatory with a polarization sensitivity of 3.0x10^-4. We obtained 8 samples of filaments in quiet region. As a result of the analysis of full Stokes profiles of filaments, we found that the field strengths were estimated as 8 - 35 Gauss. By comparing the direction of the magnetic field in filaments and the global distribution of the photospheric magnetic field, we determined the magnetic field configuration of the filaments, and we concluded that 1 out of 8 samples have normal polarity configuration, and 7 out of 8 have reverse polarity configuration.

Automated Classification of General Movements in Infants Using a Two-stream Spatiotemporal Fusion Network

The assessment of general movements (GMs) in infants is a useful tool in the early diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders. However, its evaluation in clinical practice relies on visual inspection by experts, and an automated solution is eagerly awaited. Recently, video-based GMs classification has attracted attention, but this approach would be strongly affected by irrelevant information, such as background clutter in the video. Furthermore, for reliability, it is necessary to properly extract the spatiotemporal features of infants during GMs. In this study, we propose an automated GMs classification method, which consists of preprocessing networks that remove unnecessary background information from GMs videos and adjust the infant's body position, and a subsequent motion classification network based on a two-stream structure. The proposed method can efficiently extract the essential spatiotemporal features for GMs classification while preventing overfitting to irrelevant information for different recording environments. We validated the proposed method using videos obtained from 100 infants. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms several baseline models and the existing methods.
