Equivalence of cubical and simplicial approaches to $(\infty,n)$-categories

We prove that the marked triangulation functor from the category of marked cubical sets equipped with a model structure for ($n$-trivial, saturated) comical sets to the category of marked simplicial set equipped with a model structure for ($n$-trivial, saturated) complicial sets is a Quillen equivalence. Our proof is based on the theory of cones, previously developed by the first two authors together with Lindsey and Sattler.

A cubical model for $(\infty, n)$-categories

We propose a new model for the theory of $(\infty,n)$-categories (including the case $n=\infty$) in the category of marked cubical sets with connections, similar in flavor to complicial sets of Verity. The model structure characterizing our model is shown to be monoidal with respect to suitably defined (lax and pseudo) Gray tensor products; in particular, these tensor products are both associative and biclosed. Furthermore, we show that the triangulation functor to pre-complicial sets is a left Quillen functor and is strong monoidal with respect to both Gray tensor products.

$ω$-equifibrations between strict and weak $ω$-categories

We study $ω$-equifibrations between weak $ω$-categories in the sense of Batanin--Leinster. We define $ω$-equifibrations as a natural weak $ω$-categorical analogue of isofibrations between categories, and show that they can be characterised via the right lifting property with respect to a suitable set $J$ of strict $ω$-functors. The definition of $J$ involves the construction of a certain weak $ω$-category $\mathcal{E}^1$ which, roughly speaking, is freely generated by an equivalence 1-cell in a ``coherent'' manner. We show that the strict version of $\mathcal{E}^1$ coincides with Ozornova and Rovelli's coherent walking $ω$-equivalence $\widehat{ω\mathcal{E}}$. The $ω$-equifibrations between strict $ω$-categories coincide with the fibrations in the folk model structure.

$ω$-weak equivalences between weak $ω$-categories

We study $ω$-weak equivalences between weak $ω$-categories in the sense of Batanin-Leinster. Our $ω$-weak equivalences are strict $ω$-functors satisfying essential surjectivity in every dimension, and when restricted to those between strict $ω$-categories, they coincide with the weak equivalences in the model category of strict $ω$-categories defined by Lafont, Métayer, and Worytkiewicz. We show that the class of $ω$-weak equivalences has the 2-out-of-3 property. We also consider a generalisation of $ω$-weak equivalences, defined as weak $ω$-functors (in the sense of Garner) satisfying essential surjectivity, and show that this class also has the 2-out-of-3 property.

Lawvere's fourth open problem: Levels in the topos of symmetric simplicial sets

In the topos of simplicial sets, it makes sense to ask the following question about a given natural number $n$: what is the minimum value $m$ such that $n$-skeletality implies $m$-coskeletality? This is an instance of the Aufhebung relation in the sense of Lawvere, who introduced this notion for an arbitrary Grothendieck topos $\mathcal{E}$ in place of $\mathbf{sSet}$, and levels/essential subtopoi in place of dimensions. We compute this Aufhebung relation for the topos of symmetric simplicial sets. In particular, we show that it is given by $2l-1$ for the level labelled by $l\geq 3$, which coincides with the previously known case of simplicial sets. This result provides a solution to the fourth of the seven open problems in topos theory posed by Lawvere in 2009.

Weakly invertible cells in a weak $ω$-category

We study weakly invertible cells in weak $ω$-categories in the sense of Batanin-Leinster, adopting the coinductive definition of weak invertibility. We show that weakly invertible cells in a weak $ω$-category are closed under globular pasting. Using this, we generalise elementary properties of weakly invertible cells known to hold in strict $ω$-categories to weak $ω$-categories, and show that every weak $ω$-category has a largest weak $ω$-subgroupoid.

A model-independent Gray tensor product for $(\infty,2)$-categories

We construct a (lax) Gray tensor product of $(\infty,2)$-categories and characterize it via a model-independent universal property. Namely, it is the unique monoidal biclosed structure on the $\infty$-category of $(\infty,2)$-categories which agrees with the classical Gray tensor product of strict 2-categories when restricted to the Gray cubes (i.e. the Gray tensor powers $[1]^{\otimes n}$ of the arrow category).

The Gray tensor product for 2-quasi-categories

We construct an $(\infty,2)$-version of the (lax) Gray tensor product. On the 1-categorical level, this is a binary (or more generally an $n$-ary) functor on the category of $Θ_2$-sets, and it is shown to be left Quillen with respect to Ara's model structure. Moreover we prove that this tensor product forms part of a "homotopical" (biclosed) monoidal structure, or more precisely a normal lax monoidal structure that is associative up to homotopy.

Orientals as free weak $ω$-categories

The orientals are the free strict $ω$-categories on the simplices introduced by Street. The aim of this paper is to show that they are also the free weak $ω$-categories on the same generating data. More precisely, we exhibit the Street nerves of the orientals as fibrant replacements of the simplices in Verity's model structure for complicial sets.

Inner horns for 2-quasi-categories

Dimitri Ara's 2-quasi-categories, which are certain presheaves over André Joyal's 2-cell category $Θ_2$, are an example of a concrete model that realises the abstract notion of $(\infty,2)$-category. In this paper, we prove that the 2-quasi-categories and the fibrations into them can be characterised using the inner horn inclusions and the equivalence extensions introduced by David Oury. These maps are more tractable than the maps that Ara originally used and therefore our result can serve as a combinatorial foundation for the study of 2-quasi-categories.

We investigate two notions about descriptions of groups using first-order language: quasi-finite axiomatizability, concerning infinite groups, and polylogarithmic compressibility, concerning classes of finite groups.
