No inflation in type IIA strings on rigid CY spaces

We investigate whether cosmological inflation is possible in a class of flux compactifications of type IIA strings on rigid Calabi-Yau manifolds, when all perturbative string corrections are taken into account. We confine ourselves to the universal hypermultiplet and an abelian vector multiplet, representing matter in four dimensions. Since all axions can be stabilized by D-instantons, we choose dilaton and a Kähler modulus as the only running scalars. Though positivity of their scalar potential can be achieved, we find that there is no slow roll ($\varepsilon > 2$ and $η>2$), and no Graceful Exit because the scalar potential has the run-away behaviour resulting in decompactification. We conclude that it is impossible to generate phenomenologically viable inflation in the given class of flux compactifications of type IIA strings, without explicit breaking of $N=2$ local supersymmetry of the low-energy effective action.

An analysis of indeterminate points in discrete integrable system

We investigate indeterminate points in discrete integrable system. They appear in singularity confinement phenomenon naturally. We develop a method to analyse indeterminate points of dynamical maps and using this method we clarify behaviour of indeterminate points of some integrable maps. As a result, (1) we determine their indeterminacy, (2) find they are `confined' by the map, and (3) obtain a periodicity condition of the map from indeterminate point. Finally, we propose a new type of entropy using the indeterminacy in conclusion.

Non-perturbative scalar potential inspired by type IIA strings on rigid CY

Motivated by a class of flux compactifications of type IIA strings on rigid Calabi-Yau manifolds, preserving N=2 local supersymmetry in four dimensions, we derive a non-perturbative potential of all scalar fields from the exact D-instanton corrected metric on the hypermultiplet moduli space. Applying this potential to moduli stabilization, we find a discrete set of exact vacua for axions. At these critical points, the stability problem is decoupled into two subspaces spanned by the axions and the other fields (dilaton and Kahler moduli), respectively. Whereas the stability of the axions is easily achieved, numerical analysis shows instabilities in the second subspace.

Derivation of Invariant Varieties of Periodic Points from Singularity Confinement in the case of Toda Map

In our previous work we have shown that the invariant varieties of periodic points (IVPP) of all periods of the 3 dimensional Lotka-Volterra map can be derived, iteratively, from the singularity confinement (SC). The method developed there can be applied to any integrable maps of dimension $d$ only when the number of the invariants $p$ equals to $d-1$. We propose, in this note, a new algorithm of the derivation which can be used in the cases ${d\over 2}\le p\le d-2$. Applying this algorithm to the 3 point Toda map, we derive a series of its IVPP's.

Singularity Confinement and Projective Resolution of Triangulated Category

We proposed, in our previous paper, to characterize the Hirota-Miwa equation by means of the theory of triangulated category. We extend our argument in this paper to support the idea. In particular we show in detail how the singularity confinement, a phenomenon which was proposed to characterize integrable maps, can be associated with the projective resolution of the triangulated category.

Degeneration of the Julia set to singular loci of algebraic curves

We show that, when a non-integrable rational map changes to an integrable one continuously, a large part of the Julia set of the map approach indeterminate points (IDP) of the map along algebraic curves. We will see that the IDPs are singular loci of the curves.
