Coulomb Blockade without Tunnel Junctions

We find that tunnel junctions are not needed to provide single electron effects in a metallic island. Eventually the tunnel junction may be replaced by an arbitrary scatterer. It is important that even a {\it diffusive} scatterer provides a sufficient isolation for single electron effects to persist. To formulate this in exact terms, we derive and analyze the effective action that describes an arbitrary scatterer. We also consider the fluctuations of the effective charging energy.

Skyrmions in disordered heterostructures}

We have investigated the effect of weak disorder on the ground state of a two dimensional electron gas in the quantum Hall regime at filling factors slightly deviating from unity. The skyrmions and antiskyrmions are found to be present even at filling factor $ν=1$. They may be strongly squeezed by the disorder. We have studied temperature effect on skyrmion density and size.

Current drag in capacitevly coupled Luttinger constrictions

We study the current drag in the system of two electrostatically coupled finite 1D electron channels. We present the perturbation theory results along with the results for two non-perturbative regimes. It is shown that the drag may become absolute, that is, the currents in the channels are equal in a finite window of the bias voltages.

Quantum Phase Transition in Skyrmion Lattices

We investigate the ground state of 2D electron gas in Quantum Hall regime at the filling factor slightly deviating from unity, that can be viewed as a sparse lattice of skyrmions. We have found that in the low density limit skyrmions are bound in pairs, those forming the actual lattice. We have shown that at further density increase the lattice undergoes a quantum phase transition, an analogue of superconducting phase transition in Josephson junction arrays.

Hierarchical Wigner Crystal at the Edge of Quantum Hall Bar

We show that quasiholes persist near the edge of incompressible Quantum Hall state forming a Wigner structure. The average density of quasiholes is fixed by electrostatics and decreases slowly with increasing distance from the edge. As we see from elementary reasoning, their specific arrangement can not be a regular Wigner lattice and shows a complex hierarchical structure of dislocations.

Diffusive conductors as Andreev interferometers

We present a novel mechanism of phase-dependent electric transport in diffusive normal metal-superconductor structures. We provide a detailed theoretical and numerical analysis of recent unexplained experiments essentially explaining them.

Fluctuations of Transmission Distribution in Disordered Conductors

We developed a microscopic approach to calculate the sample-to-sample fluctuations of transmission distribution in disordered conductors. This bridges between Green's function and random matrix theories of quantum transport. The results obtained show that the correlations of transmission eigenvalues obey universal Dyson statistics at small separations between eigenvalues being non-universal otherwise. The results facilitate an easy computation of different physical quantities and impose important constrains on a future imaginable theory of quantum transport.
