Effective interaction of Chern-Simons boson with fermions

We consider a vector extension of the Standard Model (SM) with a Chern-Simons-type interaction. This extension introduces a new massive vector boson (the Chern-Simons (CS) boson) that does not couple directly to SM fermions at tree level. We analyze the effective loop-induced interaction of this new vector boson with SM fermions and study its renormalizability in the $R_ξ$ gauge. We find that, in the effective interaction between the CS boson and same-flavor fermions, the divergent contributions from individual loop diagrams do not cancel when all relevant diagrams are taken into account. In contrast, for interactions involving fermions of different flavors, the corresponding loop-induced contributions are finite and well-defined. This indicates that, in the low-energy limit, the theory exhibits nonrenormalizable behavior in the sector describing the loop-induced interaction of the CS boson with same-flavor fermions. The interaction terms between the CS boson and same-flavor fermions, characterized by divergent coefficients, are identified and must be treated within the framework of effective field theory. Finally, we derive the leading-order effective Lagrangian describing the interaction of a GeV-scale CS boson with SM fermions and discuss the number of independent parameters entering this Lagrangian. The leading-order interaction we obtained turns out to be similar to the interaction of a $Z^\prime$ boson with SM fermions.

Global detector network to search for high-frequency gravitational waves (GravNet): conceptual design

We propose GravNet (Global detector network to search for high-frequency gravitational waves), a novel experimental scheme enabling the search for gravitational waves in the MHz to GHz frequency range. Such high-frequency gravitational waves could arise from a variety of phenomena connected to some of the most pressing and fundamental questions in modern cosmology. The GravNet concept is based on synchronous measurements of signals from multiple experimental measurement devices operating at geographically separated locations. While gravitational-wave-induced signatures may be present in the signal of a single detector, distinguishing them from instrumental or environmental noise is highly challenging. By analyzing correlations between signals from several distant detectors, the detection significance is substantially enhanced, while simultaneously enabling studies of the nature and origin of the gravitational-wave signal. In this work, we discuss the GravNet concept specifically in the context of cavities operated in strong magnetic fields, as these currently represent the most technically mature and experimentally advanced realization of the scheme. As part of this proposal, a first demonstration experiment using a non-superconducting cavity has been performed, providing the basis for the data-analysis strategies discussed in this work. Finally, we outline the prospects and future development of GravNet as a global network for high-frequency gravitational-wave searches.

Divergences in the effective loop interaction of the Chern-Simons bosons with leptons. The unitary gauge case

In this paper, we consider the extension of the Standard Model with Chern-Simons type interaction. There is a new vector massive boson (Chern-Simons bosons) in this extension. Using only three-particle dimension-4 interaction of the Chern-Simons bosons with vector bosons of the SM, we consider effective loop interaction of a new vector boson with leptons. We consider the renormalizability of this loop interaction and conclude that for the case of computation of loop diagrams in the unitary gauge, we can not get rid of the divergences in the effective interaction of the Chern-Simons bosons with leptons.

Production of Chern-Simons bosons in decays of mesons

We consider the effective interaction of quarks with a new GeV-scale vector particle that couples to electroweak gauge bosons by the so-called effective Chern-Simons interaction. We call this particle the Chern-Simons (CS) boson. We construct an effective Lagrangian of the CS boson interaction with quarks of two different flavors. This interaction is given by a divergent loop diagram, however, it turns out that the divergent part is equal to zero as a consequence of the CKM matrix unitarity in the SM. Therefore, we are able to predict the effective interaction of the CS boson with quarks of different flavors without introducing new unknown parameters to the model, using only parameters of the initial effective Lagrangian. Our result shows that the effective interaction of the CS boson with down-type quarks is sufficiently stronger compared with up-type quarks. Based on our results, we give a prediction for the production of CS bosons in mesons decays. Branching fractions were obtained for the main reactions of the CS production in meson decays. The results obtained will be useful for searching for the long-lived GeV-scale CS boson in intensity frontier experiments.
