Hausdorff dimension of non-uniquely ergodic directions in eigenform loci

We consider the eigenform locus $\mathcal{E}_D$ in $\mathcal{H}(1,1)$ where $D$ is not a square. We prove that for any translation surface $(X,\omega) \in \mathcal{E}_D$, the set of non-uniquely ergodic directions has Hausdorff dimension $1/2$, except when $D=5$ and $(X,\omega)$ lies in the Teichm\"uller curve generated by the regular decagon.

Dichotomy for the Hausdorff dimension of nonergodic directions on translation surfaces

We study the ergodic properties of the translation surface $X_{\lambda,\mu}$ formed by gluing two flat tori along a slit with holonomy $(\lambda,\mu) \in \mathbb{R}^2$. Extending the dichotomy result of Cheung, Hubert, and Masur for the case $\mu = 0$, we prove the following: for slits not parallel to any absolute homology class, the Hausdorff dimension of the set of nonergodic directions is either $0$ or $\frac{1}{2}$. This dichotomy is completely characterized by the P\'erez-Marco condition expressed in terms of best approximation denominators. As a corollary, we obtain that the P\'erez-Marco condition for best approximation denominators is norm-independent.

Narrow beam and low-sidelobe two-dimensional beam steering on thin-film lithium niobate optical phased array

Optical beam steering has become indispensable in free-space optical communications, light detection and ranging (LiDAR), mapping, and projection. Optical phased array (OPA) leads this field, yet conventional versions still suffer from a narrow steering field of view (FOV), insufficient sidelobe suppression, and limited angular resolution. Thin-film lithium niobate (LN), with its strong Pockels electro-optic (EO) effect, offers a powerful integrated-photonics platform to overcome these limitations. Here we present a two-dimensional (2D) EO-steered OPA based on a non-uniformly spaced X-cut thin-film LN ridge-waveguide array. A superlattice ridge design suppresses optical crosstalk to -20 dB, enabling low-sidelobe far-field radiation. Using particle swarm optimization (PSO) method, we transform a uniformly spaced array into an optimized non-uniform design, largely improving angular resolution while maintaining sidelobe suppression. When combined with a single-radiating trapezoidal end-fire emitter incorporating an etched grating, the device produces a main-lobe beam width of 0.99 degree*0.63 degree from an aperture of only 140 um*250 um, achieving a wide 2D steering range of 47 degree*9.36 degree with a 20 dB sidelobe-suppression ratio. These results highlight thin-film LN OPA as a compelling route toward heterogeneous, compact, and high-performance EO beam-steering modules and ultra-miniaturized optical modulators.

In-situ three-dimensional strain engineering of solid-state quantum emitters in photonic structures towards scalable quantum networks

Solid-state quantum emitters are pivotal for modern photonic quantum technology, yet their inherent spectral inhomogeneity imposes a critical challenge in pursuing scalable quantum network. Here, we develop a cryogenic-compatible strain-engineering platform based on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp that is not obviously working properly at cryogenic temperature. In-situ three-dimensional (3D) strain control is achieved for quantum dots (QDs) embedded in photonic nanostructures. The compliant PDMS enables independent tuning of emission energy and elimination of fine structure splitting (FSS) of single QDs, as demonstrated by a 7 meV spectral shift with a near-vanishing FSS in circular Bragg resonators and an unprecedented 15 meV tuning range in the micropillar. The PDMS-based 3D strain-engineering platform, compatible with diverse photonic structures at cryogenic temperature, provides a powerful and versatile tool for exploring fundamental strain-related physics and advancing integrated photonic quantum technology.

On connectedness in the parametric geometry of numbers

Via multilinear algebra, we formulate a criterion for connectedness in the parametric geometry of numbers in terms of pencils, which are certain algebraic varieties in the space of matrices. As a consequence, we obtain a connectedness result for generic lattices arising from Diophantine approximation on analytic submanifolds, and sharpen Schmidt and Summerer's results of connectedness on simultaneous Diophantine approximation and approximation by linear forms.

Hierarchical Metadata Information Constrained Self-Supervised Learning for Anomalous Sound Detection Under Domain Shift

Self-supervised learning methods have achieved promising performance for anomalous sound detection (ASD) under domain shift, where the type of domain shift is considered in feature learning by incorporating section IDs. However, the attributes accompanying audio files under each section, such as machine operating conditions and noise types, have not been considered, although they are also crucial for characterizing domain shifts. In this paper, we present a hierarchical metadata information constrained self-supervised (HMIC) ASD method, where the hierarchical relation between section IDs and attributes is constructed, and used as constraints to obtain finer feature representation. In addition, we propose an attribute-group-center (AGC)-based method for calculating the anomaly score under the domain shift condition. Experiments are performed to demonstrate its improved performance over the state-of-the-art self-supervised methods in DCASE 2022 challenge Task 2.

Bright Semiconductor Single-Photon Sources Pumped by Heterogeneously Integrated Micropillar lasers with Electrical Injections

The emerging hybrid integrated quantum photonics combines advantages of different functional components into a single chip to meet the stringent requirements for quantum information processing. Despite the tremendous progress in hybrid integrations of III-V quantum emitters with silicon-based photonic circuits and superconducting single-photon detectors, on-chip optical excitations of quantum emitters via miniaturized lasers towards single-photon sources (SPSs) with low power consumptions, small device footprints and excellent coherence properties is highly desirable yet illusive. In this work, we present realizations of bright semiconductor singe-photon sources heterogeneously integrated with on-chip electrically-injected microlasers. Different from previous one-by-one transfer printing technique implemented in hybrid quantum dot (QD) photonic devices, multiple deterministically coupled QD-circular Bragg Grating (CBG) SPSs were integrated with electrically-injected micropillar lasers at one time via a potentially scalable transfer printing process assisted by the wide-field photoluminescence (PL) imaging technique. Optically pumped by electrically-injected microlasers, pure single photons are generated with a high-brightness of a count rate of 3.8 M/s and an extraction efficiency of 25.44%. Such a high-brightness is due to the enhancement by the cavity mode of the CBG, which is confirmed by a Purcell factor of 2.5. Our work provides a powerful tool for advancing hybrid integrated quantum photonics in general and boosts the developments for realizing highly-compact, energy-efficient and coherent SPSs in particular.

Tailoring solid-state single-photon sources with stimulated emissions

The coherent interaction of electromagnetic fields with solid-state two-level systems can yield deterministic quantum light sources for photonic quantum technologies. To date, the performance of semiconductor single-photon sources based on three-level systems is limited mainly due to a lack of high photon indistinguishability. Here, we tailor the cavity-enhanced spontaneous emission from a ladder-type three-level system in a single epitaxial quantum dot (QD) through stimulated emission. After populating the biexciton (XX) of the QD through two-photon resonant excitation (TPE), we use another laser pulse to selectively depopulate the XX state into an exciton (X) state with a predefined polarization. The stimulated XX-X emission modifies the X decay dynamics and yields improved polarized single-photon source characteristics such as a source brightness of 0.030(2), a single-photon purity of 0.998(1), and an indistinguishability of 0.926(4). Our method can be readily applied to existing QD single-photon sources and expands the capabilities of three-level systems for advanced quantum photonic functionalities.

Dual-Resonance Enhanced Quantum Light-Matter Interactions In Deterministically Coupled Quantum-Dot-Micopillars

Optical microcavities have widely been employed to enhance either the optical excitation or the photon emission processes for boosting light matter interactions at nanoscale. When both the excitation and emission processes are simultaneously facilitated by the optical resonances provided by the microcavities, as referred to the dual-resonance condition in this article, the performances of many nanophotonic devices approach to the optima. In this work, we present versatile accessing of dual-resonance conditions in deterministically coupled quantum-dot(QD)-micopillars, which enables emission from exciton (X) - charged exciton (CX) transition with improved single-photon purity. In addition, the rarely observed up-converted single-photon emission process is achieved under dual-resonance condition. We further exploit the vectorial nature of the high-order cavity modes to significantly improve the excitation efficiency under the dual-resonance condition. The dual-resonance enhanced light-matter interactions in the quantum regime provides a viable path for developing integrated quantum photonic devices based on cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) effect e.g., highly-efficient quantum light sources and quantum logical gates.

A highly efficient integrated source of twisted single-photons

Photons with a helical phase front (twisted photons) can carry a discrete, in principle, unbounded amount of orbital angular momentum (OAM). Twisted single-photons have been demonstrated as a high-dimensional quantum system with information processing ability far beyond the widely used two-level qubits. To date, the generations of single-photons carrying OAM merely rely on the non-linear process in bulk crystals, e.g., spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), which unavoidably limits both the efficiency and the scalability of the source. Therefore, an on-demand OAM quantum light source on a semiconductor chip is yet illusive and highly desirable for integrated photonic quantum technologies. Here we demonstrate highly-efficient emission of twisted single-photons from solid-state quantum emitters embedded in a microring with angular gratings. The cavity QED effect allows the generations of single-photons and encoding OAM in the same nanostructure and therefore enables the realization of devices with very small footprints and great scalability. The OAM states of singe-photons are clearly identified via quantum interference of single-photons with themselves. Our device may boost the development of integrated quantum photonic devices with potential applications towards high-dimensional quantum information processing.

A solid-state entangled photon pair source with high brightness and indistinguishability

The generation of high-quality entangled photon pairs has been being a long-sought goal in modern quantum communication and computation. To date, the most widely-used entangled photon pairs are generated from spontaneous parametric downconversion, a process that is intrinsically probabilistic and thus relegated to a regime of low pair-generation rates. In contrast, semiconductor quantum dots can generate triggered entangled photon pairs via a cascaded radiative decay process, and do not suffer from any fundamental trade-off between source brightness and multi-pair generation. However, a source featuring simultaneously high photon-extraction efficiency, high-degree of entanglement fidelity and photon indistinguishability has not yet been reported. Here, we present an entangled photon pair source with high brightness and indistinguishability by deterministically embedding GaAs quantum dots in broadband photonic nanostructures that enable Purcell-enhanced emission. Our source produces entangled photon pairs with a record pair collection probability of up to 0.65(4) (single-photon extraction efficiency of 0.85(3)), entanglement fidelity of 0.88(2), and indistinguishabilities of 0.901(3) and 0.903(3), which immediately creates opportunities for advancing quantum photonic technologies.
