Electronic Bloch oscillation in bilayer graphene gradient superlattices

We investigate the electronic Bloch oscillation in bilayer graphene gradient superlattices using transfer matrix method. By introducing two kinds of gradient potentials of square barriers along electrons propagation direction, we find that Bloch oscillations up to terahertz can occur. Wannier-Stark ladders, as the counterpart of Bloch oscillation, are obtained as a series of equidistant transmission peaks, and the localization of the electronic wave function is also signature of Bloch oscillation. Forthermore, the period of Bloch oscillation decreases linearly with increasing gradient of barrier potentials.

Disorder-Driven Superconductor-Insulator Transition in d-Wave Superconducting Ultrathin Films

We study the superconductor-insulator transition (SIT) in $d$-wave superconducting ultrathin films. By means of the kernel polynomial method, the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations are solved for square lattices with up to $360\times 360$ unit cells self-consistently, making it possible to observe fully the nanoscale spatial fluctuations of the superconducting order parameters and discriminate accurately the localized quasiparticle states from the extended ones by the lattice-size scaling of the generalized inverse participation ratio. It is shown that Anderson localization can not entirely inhibit the occurrence of the local superconductivity in strongly-disordered $d$-wave superconductors. Separated by an insulating 'sea' completely, a few isolated superconducting 'islands' with significant enhancement of the local superconducting order parameters can survive across the SIT. The disorder-driven SIT, therefore, is a transition from a $d$-wave superconductor to a Bose insulator which consists of localized Cooper pairs. Unlike an $s$-wave superconductor which presents a robust single-particle gap across the SIT, the optical conductivity of a $d$-wave superconductor reveals a gapless insulating phase, where the SIT can be detected by observing the disappearance of the Drude weight with the increasing disorder.

Electronic band gaps and transport properties in aperiodic bilayer graphene superlattices of Thue-Morse sequence

We investigate electronic band structure and transport properties in bilayer graphene superlattices of Thue-Morse sequence. It is interesting to find that the zero-$\bar{k}$ gap center is sensitive to interlayer coupling $t'$, and the centers of all gaps shift versus $t'$ at a linear way. Extra Dirac points may emerge at $k_{y}\ne$0, and when the extra Dirac points are generated in pairs, the electronic conductance obeys a diffusive law, and the Fano factor tends to be 1/3 as the order of Thue-Morse sequence increases. Our results provide a flexible and effective way to control the transport properties in graphene.

The weight Enumerator of some irreducible cyclic codes

Irreducible cyclic codes are one of the largest known classes of block codes which have been investigated for a long time. However, their weight distributions are known only for a few cases. In this paper, a class of irreducible cyclic codes are studied and their weight distributions are determined. Moreover, all codewords of some irreducible cyclic codes are obtained through programming in order to explain their distributions. The number of distinct nonzero weights in these codes dealt with in this paper varies among 1,2,3,6,8.

Secret sharing with a class of minimal linear codes

There are several methods for constructing secret sharing schemes, one of which is based on coding theory. Theoretically, every linear code can be used to construct secret sharing schemes. However, in general, determining the access structures of the schemes based on linear codes is very hard. This paper proposed the concept of minimal linear code, which makes the determination of the access structures of the schemes based on the duals of minimal linear codes easier. It is proved that the shortening codes of minimal linear codes are also minimal ones. Then the conditions whether several types of irreducible cyclic codes are minimal linear codes are presented. Furthermore, the access structures of secret sharing schemes based on the duals of minimal linear codes are studied, and these access structures in specific examples are obtained through programming.

An ideal multi-secret sharing scheme based on minimal privileged coalitions

How to construct an ideal multi-secret sharing scheme for general access structures is difficult. In this paper, we solve an open problem proposed by Spiez et al.recently [Finite Fields and Their Application, 2011(17) 329-342], namely to design an algorithm of privileged coalitions of any length if such coalitions exist. Furthermore, in terms of privileged coalitions, we show that most of the existing multi-secret sharing schemes based on Shamir threshold secret sharing are not perfect by analyzing Yang et al.'s scheme and Pang et al.'s scheme. Finally, based on the algorithm mentioned above, we devise an ideal multi-secret sharing scheme for families of access structures, which possesses more vivid authorized sets than that of the threshold scheme.

The effects of disorder and interactions on the Anderson transition in doped Graphene

We undertake an exact numerical study of the effects of disorder on the Anderson localization of electronic states in graphene. Analyzing the scaling behaviors of inverse participation ratio and geometrically averaged density of states, we find that Anderson metal-insulator transition can be introduced by the presence of quenched random disorder. In contrast with the conventional picture of localization, four mobility edges can be observed for the honeycomb lattice with specific disorder strength and impurity concentration. Considering the screening effects of interactions on disorder potentials, the experimental findings of the scale enlarges of puddles can be explained by reviewing the effects of both interactions and disorder.

Two-orbital Systems with Crystal Field Splitting and Interorbital Hopping

The nondegenerate two-orbital Hubbard model is studied within the dynamic mean-field theory to reveal the influence of two important factors, i.e. crystal field splitting and interorbital hopping, on orbital selective Mott transition (OSMT) and realistic compound Ca$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$RuO$_{4}$. A distinctive feature of the optical conductivity of the two nondegenerate bands is found in OSMT phase, where the metallic character of the wide band is indicated by a nonzero Drude peak, while the insulating narrow band has its Drude peak drop to zero in the mean time. We also find that the OSMT regime expands profoundly with the increase of interorbital hopping integrals. On the contrary, it is shown that large and negative level splitting of the two orbitals diminishes the OSMT regime completely. Applying the present findings to compound Ca$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$RuO$_{4}$, we demonstrate that in the doping region from $x=0.2$ to 2.0, the negative level splitting is unfavorable to the OSMT phase.

Effects of Strong Correlations on the Zero Bias Anomaly in the Extended Hubbard Model with Disorder

We study the effect of strong correlations on the zero bias anomaly (ZBA) in disordered interacting systems. We focus on the two-dimensional extended Anderson-Hubbard model, which has both on-site and nearest-neighbor interactions on a square lattice. We use a variation of dynamical mean field theory in which the diagonal self-energy is solved self-consistently at each site on the lattice for each realization of the randomly-distributed disorder potential. Since the ZBA occurs in systems with both strong disorder and strong interactions, we use a simplified atomic-limit approximation for the diagonal inelastic self-energy that becomes exact in the large-disorder limit. The off-diagonal self-energy is treated within the Hartree-Fock approximation. The validity of these approximations is discussed in detail. We find that strong correlations have a significant effect on the ZBA at half filling, and enhance the Coulomb gap when the interaction is finite-ranged.

Dynamical Mean Field Study of the Two-Dimensional Disordered Hubbard Model

We study the two-dimensional paramagnetic Anderson-Hubbard model using an extension of dynamical mean-field theory that allows us to treat disorder and strong electronic correlations on equal footing. We investigate the scaling of the inverse participation ratio at quarter- and half-filling and find a nonmonotonic dependence of the localization length on the interaction strength. We do not find evidence for an insulator-metal transition. The disorder potential becomes unscreened near the Mott transition. Furthermore, strong correlations suppress the Altshuler-Aronov density of states anomaly near half-filling.

The geometrically-averaged density of states calculated from the local Green's function as a measure of localization

With the goal of measuring localization in disordered interacting systems, we examine the finite-size scaling of the geometrically-averaged density of states calculated from the local Green's function with finite energy resolution. Our results show that, unlike in a simple energy binning procedure, there is no limit in which the finite energy resolution is irrelevant.

The geometrically-averaged density of states as a measure of localization

Motivated by current interest in disordered systems of interacting electrons, the effectiveness of the geometrically averaged density of states, $ρ_g(ω)$, as an order parameter for the Anderson transition is examined. In the context of finite-size systems we examine complications which arise from finite energy resolution. Furthermore we demonstrate that even in infinite systems a decline in $ρ_g(ω)$ with increasing disorder strength is not uniquely associated with localization.

Effects of interorbital hopping on orbital fluctuations and metal-insulator transitions: Extended linearized dynamical mean-field theory

We study the effects of interorbital hopping on orbital fluctuations and Mott-Hubbard metal-insulator transition (MIT) in the two-orbital Hubbard model within the extended linearized dynamical mean-field theory. By mapping the model onto an effective model with different bandwidths through the canonical transformation, we find that at half-filling, the increases of the interorbital Coulomb interaction $U^{\prime}$ and the Hund's coupling $J$ drive the MIT, and the critical $J_{c}$ for MIT increases with the lift of the inter-orbital hopping integral $t_{ab}$. Meanwhile at quarter filling and in the strong correlation regime, the system without $t_{ab}$ exhibits MIT with the decreasing of $J$, and favors the orbital liquid ground state. However, the system transits from metal to insulator with the increasing of t$_{ab}$, accompanied with the rising of the orbital order parameter. These results show the important role of the interorbital hopping in the orbital fluctuation and orbital ordering.

The effects of Zn Impurity on the Properties of Doped Cuprates in the Normal State

We study the interplay of quantum impurity, and collective spinon and holon dynamics in Zn doped high-T$_c$ cuprates in the normal state. The two-dimensional t-t$^{\prime}$-J models with one and a small amount of Zn impurity are investigated within a numerical method based on the double-time Green function theory. We study the inhomogeneities of holon density and antiferromagnetic correlation background in cases with different Zn concentrations, and obtain that doped holes tend to assemble around the Zn impurity with their mobility being reduced. Therefore a bound state of holon is formed around the nonmagnetic Zn impurity with the effect helping Zn to introduce local antiferromagnetism around itself. The incommensurate peaks we obtained in the spin structure factor indicate that Zn impurities have effects on mixing the q=($π$, $π$) and q=0 components in spin excitations.

Schwinger-Boson Mean-Field Theory of Mixed-Spin Antiferromagnet $L_2BaNiO_5$

The Schwinger-boson mean-field theory is used to study the three-dimensional antiferromagnetic ordering and excitations in compounds $L_2BaNiO_5$, a large family of quasi-one-dimensional mixed-spin antiferromagnet. To investigate magnetic properties of these compounds, we introduce a three-dimensional mixed-spin antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model based on experimental results for the crystal structure of $L_2BaNiO_5$. This model can explain the experimental discovery of coexistence of Haldane gap and antiferromagnetic long-range order below Néel temperature. Properties such as the low-lying excitations, magnetizations of $Ni$ and rare-earth ions, Néel temperatures of different compounds, and the behavior of Haldane gap below the Néel temperature are investigated within this model, and the results are in good agreement with neutron scattering experiments.

Optical and transport properties in doped two-leg ladder antiferromagnet

Within the t-J model, the optical and transport properties of the doped two-leg ladder antiferromagnet are studied based on the fermion-spin theory. It is shown that the optical and transport properties of the doped two-leg ladder antiferromagnet are mainly governed by the holon scattering. The low energy peak in the optical conductivity is located at a finite energy, while the resistivity exhibits a crossover from the high temperature metallic-like behavior to the low temperature insulating-like behavior, which are consistent with the experiments.

The Double-Time Green's Function Approach to the Two-Dimensional Heisenberg Antiferromagnet with Broken Bonds

We improved the decoupling approximation of the double-time Green's function theory, and applied it to study the spin-${1\over 2}$ two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with broken bonds at finite temperature. Our decoupling approximation is applicable to the spin systems with spatial inhomogeneity, introduced by the local defects, over the whole temperature region. At low temperatures, we observed that the quantum fluctuation is reduced in the neighborhood of broken bond, which is in agreement with previous theoretical expectations. At high temperatures our results showed that the quantum fluctuation close to the broken bond is enhanced. For the two parallel broken bonds cases, we found that there exists a repulsive interaction between the two parallel broken bonds at low temperatures.

A mean-field theory which satisfying the electron on-site local constraint in the relevant regime of density for the high temperature superconductors is developed. Within this approach, the electron spectral function, the electron dispersion, and the electron density of states of copper oxide materials are discussed, and the results are qualitative consistent with the numerical simulations.
