New agegraphic dark energy model with generalized uncertainty principle

We investigate the new agegraphic dark energy models with generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). It turns out that although the GUP affects the early universe, it does not change the current and future dark energy-dominated universe significantly. Furthermore, this model could describe the matter-dominated universe in the past only when the parameter $n$ is chosen to be $n>n_c$, where the critical value determined to be $n_c=2.799531478$.

Entropy of black holes in topologically massive gravity

We study the issue of black hole entropy in the topologically massive gravity. Assuming that the presence of gravitational Chern-Simons term with the coupling $1/μ$ does modify the horizon radius $\tilde{r}_+$, we propose $\tilde{S}_{BH}=π\tilde{r}_+/2G_3$ as the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. This entropy of CS-BTZ black hole satisfies the first-law of thermodynamics and the area-law but it is slightly different from the shifted-entropy $S_c=πr_+/2G_3+ (1/μl)πr_-/2G_3$ based on the BTZ black hole with outer $r_+$ and inner horizon $r_-$. In the case of $r_-=0$, $\tilde{S}_{BH}$ represents the entropy of non-rotating BTZ black hole with the Chern-Simons term (NBTZ-CS), while $S_c$ reduces to the entropy of NBTZ black hole. It shows that $\tilde{S}_{BH}$ may be a candidate for the entropy of the CS-BTZ black hole.

Quasinormal modes for topologically massive black hole

We calculate quasinormal modes of a massive scalar perturbation on the topologically massive black hole (CS-BTZ black hole). The chiral point of $μ\ell=1$ corresponds to a newly extremal black hole. We show that there is no quasinormal modes at this point. Accordingly, we prove the unitarity of the CS-BTZ black hole at the chiral point.

Thermodynamics of Einstein-Born-Infeld black holes in three dimensions

We show that all thermodynamic quantities of the Einstein-Born-Infeld black holes in three dimensions can be obtained from the dilaton and its potential of two dimensional dilaton gravity through the dimensional reduction. These are all between non-rotating uncharged BTZ black hole (NBTZ) and charged BTZ black hole (CBTZ).

Ruppeiner geometry and 2D dilaton gravity in the thermodynamics of black holes

We resolve the controversial issue of the geometric approach to the black hole thermodynamics. The geometric description of the equilibrium thermodynamics comes from Ruppeiner geometry based on a metric on the thermodynamic state space. For this purpose, we consider the Reissner-Nordström-AdS (RN-AdS) black hole which provides two different ensembles: canonical ensemble for fixed-charge case and grand canonical ensemble for fixed-potential case. Two cases are independent and cannot be mixed into each other. Hence, we calculate different Ruppeiner curvatures for two ensembles. However, we could not find the consistent behaviors of Ruppeiner curvature corresponding to those of heat capacity. Alternatively, instead of the Ruppeiner curvature, we newly propose the curvature scalar in the 2D dilaton gravity approach which shows the features of extremal, Davies and minimum temperature points of RN-AdS black hole, clearly.

Thermodynamics of Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole: thermal stability of Nariai black hole

We study thermodynamics of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole in five dimensions by introducing two temperatures based on the standard and Bousso-Hawking normalizations. We use the first-law of thermodynamics to derive thermodynamic quantities. The two temperatures indicate that the Nariai black hole is thermodynamically unstable. However, it seems that black hole thermodynamics favors the standard normalization, and does not favor the Bousso-Hawking normalization.

Phase transition for black holes with scalar hair and topological black holes

We study phase transitions between black holes with scalar hair and topological black holes in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes. As the ground state solutions, we introduce the non-rotating BTZ black hole in three dimensions and topological black hole with hyperbolic horizon in four dimensions. For the temperature matching only, we show that the phase transition between black hole with scalar hair (Martinez-Troncoso-Zanelli black hole) and topological black hole is second-order by using differences between two free energies. However, we do not identify what order of the phase transition between scalar and non-rotating BTZ black holes occurs in three dimensions, although there exists a possible decay of scalar black hole to non-rotating BTZ black hole.

Phase transition between non-extremal and extremal Reissner-Nordström black holes

We discuss the phase transition between non-extremal and extremal Reissner-Nordström black holes. This transition is considered as the $T \to 0$ limit of the transition between the non-extremal and near-extremal black holes. We show that an evaporating process from non-extremal black hole to extremal one is possible to occur, but its reverse process is not possible to occur because of the presence of the maximum temperature. Furthermore, it is shown that the Hawking-Page phase transition between small and large black holes unlikely occurs in the AdS Reissner-Nordström black holes.

Thermodynamic duality between RN black hole and 2D dilaton gravity

All thermodynamic quantities of the Reissner-Nordström (RN) black hole can be obtained from the dilaton and its potential of two dimensional (2D) dilaton gravity. The dual relations of four thermodynamic laws are also established. Furthermore, the near-horizon thermodynamics of the extremal RN black hole is completely described by the Jackiw-Teitelboim theory which is obtained by perturbing around the AdS$_2$-horizon.

Entropy of an extremal regular black hole

We introduce a magnetically charged extremal regular black hole in the coupled system of Einstein gravity and nonlinear electrodynamics. Its near horizon geometry is given by $AdS_2\times S^2$. It turns out that the entropy function approach does not automatically lead to a correct entropy of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. This contrasts to the case of the extremal Reissner-Norström black hole in the Einstein-Maxwell theory. We conclude that the entropy function approach does not work for a magnetically charged extremal regular black hole without singularity, because of the nonlinearity of the entropy function.

New attractor mechanism for spherically symmetric extremal black holes

We introduce a new attractor mechanism to find the entropy for spherically symmetric extremal black holes. The key ingredient is to find a two-dimensional (2D) dilaton gravity with the dilaton potential $V(ϕ)$. The condition of an attractor is given by $\nabla^2ϕ=V(ϕ_0)$ and $\bar{R}_2=-V^{\prime}(ϕ_0)$ and for a constant dilaton $ ϕ=ϕ_0$, these are also used to find the location of the degenerate horizon $r=r_{e}$ of an extremal black hole. As a nontrivial example, we consider an extremal regular black hole obtained from the coupled system of Einstein gravity and nonlinear electrodynamics. The desired Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is successfully recovered from the generalized entropy formula combined with the 2D dilaton gravity, while the entropy function approach does not work for obtaining this entropy.

Quantum Cooling Evaporation Process in Regular Black Holes

We investigate a universal behavior of thermodynamics and evaporation process for the regular black holes. We newly observe an important point where the temperature is maximum, the heat capacity is changed from negative infinity to positive infinity, and the free energy is minimum. Furthermore, this point separates the evaporation process into the early stage with negative heat capacity and the late stage with positive heat capacity. The latter represents the quantum cooling evaporation process. As a result, the whole evaporation process could be regarded as the inverse Hawking-Page phase transition.

Instability of agegraphic dark energy models

We investigate the agegraphic dark energy models which were recently proposed to explain the dark energy-dominated universe. For this purpose, we calculate their equation of states and squared speeds of sound. We find that the squared speed for agegraphic dark energy is always negative. This means that the perfect fluid for agegraphic dark energy is classically unstable. Furthermore, it is shown that the new agegraphic dark energy model could describe the matter (radiation)-dominated universe in the far past only when the parameter $n$ is chosen to be $n>n_c$, where the critical values are determined to be $n_c=2.6878(2.5137752)$ numerically. It seems that the new agegraphic dark energy model is no better than the holographic dark energy model for the description of the dark energy-dominated universe, even though it resolves the causality problem.

Instability of holographic dark energy models

We investigate the difference between holographic dark energy, Chaplygin gas, and tachyon model with constant potential. For this purpose, we examine their squared speeds of sound which are evaluated to zeroth order in perturbation theory and hence depends only on time. We find that the squared speed for holographic dark energy is always negative when choosing the future event horizon as the IR cutoff, while those for Chaplygin gas and tachyon are non-negative. This means that the perfect fluid for holographic dark energy is classically unstable. Hence the holographic interpretation for Chaplygin gas and tachyon is problematic.

Holographic interacting dark energy in the braneworld cosmology

We investigate a model of brane cosmology to find a unified description of the radiation-matter-dark energy universe. It is of the interacting holographic dark energy with a bulk-holographic matter $χ$. This is a five-dimensional cold dark matter, which plays a role of radiation on the brane. Using the effective equations of state $ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}$ instead of the native equations of state $ω_{\rm Λ}$, we show that this model cannot accommodate any transition from the dark energy with $ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}\ge-1$ to the phantom regime $ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}<-1$. Furthermore, the case of interaction between cold dark matter and five dimensional cold dark matter is considered for completeness. Here we find that the redshift of matter-radiation equality $z_{\rm eq}$ is the same order as $z^{\rm ob}_{\rm eq}=2.4\times10^{4} Ω_{\rm m}h^2$. Finally, we obtain a general decay rate $Γ$ which is suitable for describing all interactions including the interaction between holographic dark energy and cold dark matter.

Black hole and holographic dark energy

We discuss the connection between black hole and holographic dark energy. We examine the issue of the equation of state (EOS) for holographic energy density as a candidate for the dark energy carefully. This is closely related to the EOS for black hole, because the holographic dark energy comes from the black hole energy density. In order to derive the EOS of a black hole, we may use its dual (quantum) systems. Finally, a regular black hole without the singularity is introduced to describe an accelerating universe inside the cosmological horizon. Inspired by this, we show that the holographic energy density with the cosmological horizon as the IR cutoff leads to the dark energy-dominated universe with $ω_{\rm Λ}=-1$.

Non-flat universe and interacting dark energy model

For non-flat universe of $k\not=0$, we investigate a model of the interacting holographic dark energy with cold dark matter (CDM). There exists a mixture of two components arisen from decaying of the holographic dark energy into CDM. In this case we use the effective equations of state ($ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}, ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm m}$) instead of the native equations of state ($ω_{\rm Λ},ω_{\rm m})$. Consequently, we show that interacting holographic energy models in non-flat universe cannot accommodate a transition from the dark energy to the phantom regime.

Thermodynamics and evaporation of the noncommutative black hole

We investigate the thermodynamics of the noncommutative black hole whose static picture is similar to that of the nonsingular black hole known as the de Sitter-Schwarzschild black hole. It turns out that the final remnant of extremal black hole is a thermodynamically stable object. We describe the evaporation process of this black hole by using the noncommutativity-corrected Vaidya metric. It is found that there exists a close relationship between thermodynamic approach and evaporation process.
