Scalar Perturbations Through Cycles

We analytically and numerically investigate the evolutions of the scalar perturbations through the cycles with nonsingular bounce. It is found that the amplitude of the curvature perturbation on large scale will be amplified cycle by cycle, and the isocurvature perturbations also obtain an amplification, but the rate of its amplification is slower than that of curvature perturbation, unless its coupling to the metric perturbation is not negligible.

Conformally Dual to Inflation

It is showed by a conformal rescaling that the inflationary background can be dual to a slowly expanding background, which is almost Minkowski and described by a conformal field theory conformally coupled to gravity. It is proved that the primordial curvature perturbation and tensor perturbation generated during these two conformally equivalent backgrounds are completely equal, and the scale invariance of perturbations is determined by the conformal invariance of field theory in slowly expanding background. In dual slowly expanding scenario, the primordial universe is asymptotical to a static state in infinite past. We discuss the implication of the results obtained.

Gravitational Wave During Slowly Evolving

The ekpyrotic slow contraction or the slow expansion might be responsible for the adiabatical production of the nearly scale invariant curvature perturbation. However, the tensor perturbation generated is generally strongly blue, which implies that it is negligible on large scale. Thus it has been still thought that the detection of primordial tensor perturbation will rule out the relevant models. Here, we will show a counterexample. We will illustrate that in a model of the slow evolution, due to the rapid change of the gravitational coupling, both the curvature perturbation and the tensor perturbation can be nearly scale invariant. The resulting ratio of the tensor to scalar is in a regime which can be detected by the coming or planned experiments. We argue that the result is similar to that of inflation is because the background evolution given here is actually conformally equivalent to the inflationary background.

A Multiple Step-like Spectrum of Primordial Perturbation

We show that if the inflaton effective potential has multiple discontinuous points in its first derivative, the spectrum of primordial perturbation will be multiple step-like. We give a general analysis by applying a simple model. In principle, as long as the height of step is low enough, the result of spectrum will be consistent with observations.

A Galileon Design of Slow Expansion

We show a model of the slow expansion, in which the scale invariant spectrum of curvature perturbation is adiabatically induced by its increasing mode, by applying a generalized Galileon field. In this model, initially ε<< -1, which then is rapidly increasing, during this period the universe is slowly expanding. There is not the ghost instability, the perturbation theory is healthy. When ε\sim -1, the slow expansion phase ends, and the available energy of field can be released and the universe reheats. This scenario might be a viable design of the early universe.

Adiabatic Spectra During Slowly Evolving

In general, for single field, the scale invariant spectrum of curvature perturbation can be given by either its constant mode or its increasing mode. We show that during slowly expanding or contracting, the spectrum of curvature perturbation given by its increasing mode can be scale invariance. The perturbation mode can be naturally extended out of horizon, and the amplitude of perturbation is consistent with the observations. We briefly discuss the implement of this scenario.

Phantom Inflation with A Steplike Potential

The phantom inflation predicts a slightly blue spectrum of tensor perturbation, which might be tested in coming observations. In normal inflation models, the introduction of step in its potential generally results in an oscillation in the primordial power spectrum of curvature perturbation. We will check whether there is a similar case in the phantom inflation with steplike potential. We find that for same potentials, the oscillation of the spectrum of phantom inflation is nearly same with that of normal inflation, the difference between them is the tilt of power spectrum.

Amplification of Curvature Perturbations in Cyclic Cosmology

We analytically and numerically show that through the cycles with nonsingular bounce the amplitude of curvature perturbation on large scale will be amplified and the power spectrum will be redden. In some sense, this amplification will eventually destroy the homogeneity of background, which will lead to the ultimate end of cycles of global universe. We argue that for the model with increasing cycles, it might be possible that a fissiparous multiverse will emerge after one or several cycles, in which the cycles will continue only at corresponding local regions.

Preheating in Bubble Collisions

In a landscape with metastable minima, the bubbles will inevitably nucleate. We show that during the bubbles collide, due to the dramatically oscillating of the field at the collision region, the energy deposited in the bubble walls can be efficiently released by the explosive production of the particles. In this sense, the collision of bubbles is actually highly inelastic. The cosmological implications of this result are discussed.

Design of a Cyclic Multiverse

Recently, it has been noticed that the amplification of the amplitude of curvature perturbation cycle by cycle can lead to a cyclic multiverse scenario, in which the number of universes increases cycle by cycle. However, this amplification will also inevitably induce either the ultimate end of corresponding cycle, or the resulting spectrum of perturbations inside corresponding universe is not scale invariant, which baffles the existence of observable universes. In this paper, we propose a design of a cyclic multiverse, in which the observable universe can emerges naturally. The significance of a long period of dark energy before the turnaround of each cycle for this implementing is shown.

Rotating a Curvaton Brane in a Warped Throat

In this paper we study a curvaton model obtained by considering a probe anti-D3-brane with angular motion at the bottom of a KS throat with approximate isometries. We calculate the spectrum of curvature perturbations and the non-Gaussianities of this model. Specifically, we consider the limit of relativistic rotation of the curvaton brane which leads to a small sound speed, and thus it can be viewed as an implementation of the DBI-curvaton mechanism. We find that the primordial power spectrum is nearly scale-invariant while the non-Gaussianity of local type is sizable and that of equilateral type is usually large and negative. Moreover, we study both the theoretical and observational constraints on this model, and find that there exists a sizable allowed region for the phase space of this model.

Inflation in a Web

In a given path with multiple branches, in principle, it can be expected that there are some fork points, where one branch is bifurcated into different branches, or various branches converge into one or several branches. In this paper, it is showed that if there is a web formed by such branches in a given field space, in which each branch can be responsible for a period of slow roll inflation, a multiverse separated by domain wall network will come into being, some of which might corresponds to our observable universe. We discuss this scenario and show possible observations of a given observer at late time.

Entropy Perturbations in N-flation

In this paper we study the entropy perturbations in N-flation by using the $\d\ma{N}$ formalism. We calculate the entropy corrections to the power spectrum of the overall curvature perturbation $P_{\z}$. We obtain an analytic form of the transfer coefficient $T^2_{\ma{R}\ma{S}}$, which describes the correlation between the curvature and entropy perturbations, and investigate its behavior numerically. It turns out that the entropy perturbations cannot be neglected in N-flation, because the amplitude of entropy components is approximately in the same order as the adiabatic one at the end of inflation $T^2_{\ma{R}\ma{S}}\sim\ma{O}(1)$. The spectral index $n_S$ is calculated and it becomes smaller after the entropy modes are taken into account, i.e., the spectrum becomes redder, compared to the pure adiabatic case. Finally we study the modified consistency relation of N-flation, and find that the tensor-to-scalar ratio ($r\simeq0.006$) is greatly suppressed by the entropy modes, compared to the pure adiabatic one ($r\simeq0.017$) at the end of inflation.

Scale Invariance from Modified Dispersion Relations

In this paper, inspired by the investigations on the theory of cosmological perturbations in Hořava-Liftshit cosmology, we calculated the spectrum of primordial perturbation leaded by a scalar field with modified dispersion relation ω\sim k^z/a^{p-1}, in which z is the critical exponent and p is generally not equal to z. We discussed that for fixed z, if the spectrum is required to be scale invariant, how should p depend on the background evolution. We concluded that there is always a room of parameters for the generation of scale invariant spectrum.

Proliferation in Cycle

In the contracting phase with w\simeq 0, the scale invariant spectrum of curvature perturbation is given by the increasing mode of metric perturbation. In this paper, it is found that if the contracting phase with w\simeq 0 is included in each cycle of a cycle universe, since the metric perturbation is amplified on super horizon scale cycle by cycle, after each cycle the universe will be inevitably separated into many parts independent of one another, each of which corresponds to a new universe and evolves up to next cycle, and then is separated again. In this sense, a cyclic multiverse scenario is actually presented, in which the universe proliferates cycle by cycle. We estimate the number of new universes proliferated in each cycle, and discuss the implications of this result.

Primordial Perturbation in Horava-Lifshitz Cosmology

Recently, Hořava has proposed a renormalizable theory of gravity with critical exponent z=3 in the UV. This proposal might imply the scale invariant primordial perturbation can be generated in any expansion of early universe with a\sim t^n and n>1/3, which, in this note, will be validated by solving the motion equation of perturbation mode on super sound horizon scale for any background evolution of early universe. However, it is found that it seems that if we require the efolding number of primordial perturbation is suitable for observable universe, n>1 still need to be satisfied, unless the scale of UV regime is quite low.

"Old" Locked Inflation

In this paper, we revisit the idea of locked inflation, which does not require a potential satisfying the normal slow-roll condition, but suffers from the problems associated with "saddle inflation". We propose a scenario based on locked inflation, however, with an alternative evolution mechanism of the "waterfall field" $ϕ$. Instead of rolling down along the potential, the $ϕ$ field will tunnel to end the inflation stage like in old inflation, by which the saddle inflation could be avoided. Further, we study a cascade of old locked inflation, which can be motivated by the string landscape. Our model is based on the consideration of making locked inflation feasible so as to give a working model without slow roll; It also can be seen as an effort to embed the old inflation in string landscape.

Non-Gaussianity in Island Cosmology

In this paper we fully calculate the non-Gaussianity of primordial curvature perturbation of island universe by using the second order perturbation equation. We find that for the spectral index $n_s\simeq 0.96$, which is favored by current observations, the non-Gaussianity level $f_{NL}$ seen in island will generally lie between 30 $\sim$ 60, which may be tested by the coming observations. In the landscape, the island universe is one of anthropically acceptable cosmological histories. Thus the results obtained in some sense means the coming observations, especially the measurement of non-Gaussianity, will be significant to make clear how our position in the landscape is populated.
