Symplectic, product and complex structures on 3-Lie algebras

In this paper, first we introduce the notion of a phase space of a 3-Lie algebra and show that a 3-Lie algebra has a phase space if and only if it is sub-adjacent to a 3-pre-Lie algebra. Then we introduce the notion of a product structure on a 3-Lie algebra using the Nijenhuis condition as the integrability condition. A 3-Lie algebra enjoys a product structure if and only if it is the direct sum (as vector spaces) of two subalgebras. We find that there are four types special integrability conditions, and each of them gives rise to a special decomposition of the original 3-Lie algebra. They are also related to $\huaO$-operators, Rota-Baxter operators and matched pairs of 3-Lie algebras. Parallelly, we introduce the notion of a complex structure on a 3-Lie algebra and there are also four types special integrability conditions. Finally, we add compatibility conditions between a complex structure and a product structure, between a symplectic structure and a paracomplex structure, between a symplectic structure and a complex structure, to introduce the notions of a complex product structure, a para-Kähler structure and a pseudo-Kähler structure on a 3-Lie algebra. We use 3-pre-Lie algebras to construct these structures. Furthermore, a Levi-Civita product is introduced associated to a pseudo-Riemannian 3-Lie algebra and deeply studied.

Nijenhuis operators on pre-Lie algebras

First we use a new approach to give a graded Lie algebra whose Maurer-Cartan elements characterize pre-Lie algebra structures. Then using this graded Lie bracket we define the notion of a Nijenhuis operator on a pre-Lie algebra which generates a trivial deformation of this pre-Lie algebra. There are close relationships between O-operators, Rota-Baxter operators and Nijenhuis operators on a pre-Lie algebra. In particular, a Nijenhuis operator "connects" two O-operators on a pre-Lie algebra whose any linear combination is still an O-operator in certain sense and hence compatible L-dendriform algebras appear naturally as the induced algebraic structures. For the case of the dual representation of the regular representation of a pre-Lie algebra, there is a geometric interpretation by introducing the notion of a pseudo-Hessian-Nijenhuis structure which gives rise to a sequence of pseudo-Hessian and pseudo-Hessian-Nijenhuis structures. Another application of Nijenhuis operators on pre-Lie algebras in geometry is illustrated by introducing the notion of a para-complex structure on a pre-Lie algebra and then studying paracomplex quadratic pre-Lie algebras and paracomplex pseudo-Hessian pre-Lie algebras in detail. Finally, we give some examples of Nijenhuis operators on pre-Lie algebras.

Purely Hom-Lie bialgebras

In this paper, first we show that there is a Hom-Lie algebra structure on the set of $(σ,σ)$-derivations of a commutative algebra. Then we construct dual representations of a representation of a Hom-Lie algebra. We introduce the notions of a Manin triple for Hom-Lie algebras and a purely Hom-Lie bialgebra. Using the coadjoint representation, we show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between Manin triples for Hom-Lie algebras and purely Hom-Lie bialgebras. Finally, we study coboundary purely Hom-Lie bialgebras and construct solutions of the classical Hom-Yang-Baxter equations in some special Hom-Lie algebras using Hom-$\mathcal O$-operators.

Cohomological characterizations of non-abelian extensions of strict Lie 2-algebras

In this paper, we study non-abelian extensions of strict Lie 2-algebras via the cohomology theory. A non-abelian extension of a strict Lie 2-algebra $\g$ by $\frkh$ gives rise to a strict homomorphism from $\g$ to $\SOut(\frkh)$. Conversely, we prove that the obstruction of existence of non-abelian extensions of strict Lie 2-algebras associated to a strict Lie 2-algebra homomorphism from $\g$ to $\SOut(\frkh)$ is given by an element in the third cohomology group. We further prove that the isomorphism classes of non-abelian extensions of strict Lie 2-algebras are classified by the second cohomology group.

String principal bundles and Courant algebroids

Just like Atiyah Lie algebroids encode the infinitesimal symmetries of principal bundles, exact Courant algebroids are believed to encode the infinitesimal symmetries of $S^1$-gerbes. At the same time, transitive Courant algebroids may be viewed as the higher analogue of Atiyah Lie algebroids, and the non-commutative analogue of exact Courant algebroids. In this article, we explore what the "principal bundle" behind transitive Courant algebroids are, and they turn out to be principal 2-bundles of string groups. First, we construct the stack of principal 2-bundles of string groups with connection data. We prove a lifting theorem for the stack of string principal bundles with connections and show the multiplicity of the lifts once they exist. This is a differential geometrical refinement of what is known for string structures by Redden, Waldorf and Stolz-Teichner. We also extend the result of Bressler and Chen-Stiénon-Xu on extension obstruction involving transitive Courant algebroids to the case of transitive Courant algebroids with connections, as a lifting theorem with the description of multiplicity once liftings exist. At the end, we build a morphism between these two stacks. The morphism turns out to be neither injective nor surjective in general, which shows that the process of associating the "higher Atiyah algebroid" loses some information and at the same time, only some special transitive Courant algebroids come from string bundles.

Left-symmetric bialgebroids and their corresponding Manin triples

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a left-symmetric bialgebroid as a geometric generalization of a left-symmetric bialgebra and construct a left-symmetric bialgebroid from a pseudo-Hessian manifold. We also introduce the notion of a Manin triple for left-symmetric algebroids, which is equivalent to a left-symmetric bialgebroid. The corresponding double structure is a pre-symplectic algebroid rather than a left-symmetric algebroid. In particular, we establish a relation between Maurer-Cartan type equations and Dirac structures of the pre-symplectic algebroid which is the corresponding double structure for a left-symmetric bialgebroid.

Omni $n$-Lie algebras and linearization of higher analogues of Courant algebroids

In this paper, we introduce the notion of an omni $n$-Lie algebra and show that they are linearization of higher analogues of standard Courant algebroids. We also introduce the notion of a nonabelian omni $n$-Lie algebra and show that they are linearization of higher analogues of Courant algebroids associated to Nambu-Poisson manifolds.

Pre-symplectic algebroids and their applications

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a pre-symplectic algebroid, and show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between pre-symplectic algebroids and symplectic Lie algebroids. This result is the geometric generalization of the relation between left-symmetric algebras and symplectic (Frobenius) Lie algebras. Although pre-symplectic algebroids are not left-symmetric algebroids, they still can be viewed as the underlying structures of symplectic Lie algebroids. %We study three classes of pre-symplectic algebroids in detail. Then we study exact pre-symplectic algebroids and show that they are classified by the third cohomology group of a left-symmetric algebroid. Finally, we study para-complex pre-symplectic algebroids. Associated to a para-complex pre-symplectic algebroid, there is a pseudo-Riemannian Lie algebroid. The multiplication in a para-complex pre-symplectic algebroid characterizes the restriction to the Lagrangian subalgebroids of the Levi-Civita connection in the corresponding pseudo-Riemannian Lie algebroid.

Strong homotopy Lie algebras, homotopy Poisson manifolds and Courant algebroids

We study Maurer-Cartan elements on homotopy Poisson manifolds of degree $n$. They unify many twisted or homotopy structures in Poisson geometry and mathematical physics, such as twisted Poisson manifolds, quasi-Poisson $\g$-manifolds, and twisted Courant algebroids. Using the fact that the dual of an $n$-term $L_\infty$-algebra is a homotopy Poisson manifold of degree $n-1$, we obtain a Courant algebroid from a $2$-term $L_\infty$-algebra $\g$ via the degree $2$ symplectic NQ-manifold $T^*[2]\g^*[1]$. By integrating the Lie quasi-bialgebroid associated to the Courant algebroid, we obtain a Lie-quasi-Poisson groupoid from a $2$-term $L_\infty$-algebra, which is proposed to be the geometric structure on the dual of a Lie $2$-algebra. These results lead to a construction of a new 2-term $L_\infty$-algebra from a given one, which could produce many interesting examples.

A new approach to representations of $3$-Lie algebras and abelian extensions

In this paper, we introduce the notion of generalized representation of a $3$-Lie algebra, by which we obtain a generalized semidirect product $3$-Lie algebra. Moreover, we develop the corresponding cohomology theory. Various examples of generalized representations of 3-Lie algebras and computation of 2-cocycles of the new cohomology are provided. Also, we show that a split abelian extension of a 3-Lie algebra is isomorphic to a generalized semidirect product $3$-Lie algebra. Furthermore, we describe general abelian extensions of 3-Lie algebras using Maurer-Cartan elements.

On non-abelian extensions of Leibniz algebras

In this paper, first we classify non-abelian extensions of Leibniz algebras by the second non-abelian cohomology. Then, we construct Leibniz 2-algebras using derivations of Leibniz algebras, and show that under a condition on the center, a non-abelian extension of Leibniz algebras can be described by a Leibniz 2-algebra morphism. At last, we give a description of non-abelian extensions in terms of Maurer-Cartan elements in a differential graded Lie algebra.

Hom-Lie algebroids, Hom-Lie bialgebroids and Hom-Courant algebroids

In this paper, first we modify the definition of a Hom-Lie algebroid introduced by Laurent-Gengoux and Teles and give its equivalent dual description. Many results that parallel to Lie algebroids are given. In particular, we give the notion of a Hom-Poisson manifold and show that there is a Hom-Lie algebroid structure on the pullback of the cotangent bundle of a Hom-Poisson manifold. Then we give the notion of a Hom-Lie bialgebroid, which is a natural generalization of a purely Hom-Lie bialgebra and a Lie bialgebroid. We show that the base manifold of a Hom-Lie bialgebroid is a Hom-Poisson manifold. Finally, we introduce the notion of a Hom-Courant algebroid and show that the double of a Hom-Lie bialgebroid is a Hom-Courant algebroid. The underlying algebraic structure of a Hom-Courant algebroid is a Hom-Leibniz algebra, or a Hom-Lie 2-algebra.

Bialgebras, the classical Yang-Baxter equation and Manin triples for 3-Lie algebras

This paper studies two types of 3-Lie bialgebras whose compatibility conditions between the multiplication and comultiplication are given by local cocycles and double constructions respectively, and are therefore called the local cocycle 3-Lie bialgebra and the double construction 3-Lie bialgebra. They can be regarded as suitable extensions of the well-known Lie bialgebra in the context of 3-Lie algebras, in two different directions. The local cocycle 3-Lie bialgebra is introduced to extend the connection between Lie bialgebras and the classical Yang-Baxter equation. Its relationship with a ternary variation of the classical Yang-Baxter equation, called the 3-Lie classical Yang-Baxter equation, a ternary $\mathcal{O}$-operator and a 3-pre-Lie algebra is established. In particular, it is shown that solutions of the 3-Lie classical Yang-Baxter equation give (coboundary) local cocycle 3-Lie bialgebras, whereas 3-pre-Lie algebras give rise to solutions of the 3-Lie classical Yang-Baxter equation. The double construction 3-Lie bialgebra is introduced to extend to the 3-Lie algebra context the connection between Lie bialgebras and double constructions of Lie algebras. Their related Manin triples give a natural construction of pseudo-metric 3-Lie algebras with neutral signature. Moreover, the double construction 3-Lie bialgebra can be regarded as a special class of the local cocycle 3-Lie bialgebra. Explicit examples of double construction 3-Lie bialgebras are provided.

The Pontryagin Class for Pre-Courant Algebroids

In this paper, we show that the Jacobiator $J$ of a pre-Courant algebroid is closed naturally. The corresponding equivalence class $[J^\flat]$ is defined as the Pontryagin class, which is the obstruction of a pre-Courant algebroid to be deformed into a Courant algebroid. We construct a Leibniz 2-algebra and a Lie 2-algebra associated to a pre-Courant algebroid and prove that these algebraic structures are isomorphic under deformations. Finally, we introduce the twisted action of a Lie algebra on a manifold to give more examples of pre-Courant algebroids, which include the Cartan geometry.

Hom-Big Brackets: Theory and Applications

In this paper, we introduce the notion of hom-big brackets, which is a generalization of Kosmann-Schwarzbach's big brackets. We show that it gives rise to a graded hom-Lie algebra. Thus, it is a useful tool to study hom-structures. In particular, we use it to describe hom-Lie bialgebras and hom-Nijenhuis operators.

Nijenhuis operators on $n$-Lie algebras

In this paper, we study $(n-1)$-order deformations of an $n$-Lie algebra and introduce the notion of a Nijenhuis operator on an $n$-Lie algebra, which could give rise to trivial deformations. We prove that a polynomial of a Nijenhuis operator is still a Nijenhuis operator. Finally, we give various constructions of Nijenhuis operators and some examples.

Higher Extensions of Lie Algebroids

We study the extension of a Lie algebroid by a representation up to homotopy, including semidirect products of a Lie algebroid with such representations. The extension results in a higher Lie algebroid. We give exact Courant algebroids and string Lie 2-algebras as examples of such extensions. We then apply this to obtain a Lie 2-groupoid integration of an exact Courant algebroid.

$3$-$Lie_\infty$-algebras and $3$-Lie 2-algebras

In this paper, we introduce the notions of a $3$-$Lie_\infty$-algebra and a 3-Lie 2-algebra. The former is a model for a 3-Lie algebra that satisfy the fundamental identity up to all higher homotopies, and the latter is the categorification of a 3-Lie algebra. We prove that the 2-category of 2-term $3$-$Lie_\infty$-algebras is equivalent to the 2-category of 3-Lie 2-algebras. Skeletal and strict 3-Lie 2-algebras are studied in detail. A construction of a 3-Lie 2-algebra from a symplectic 3-Lie algebra is given.
