Motif-Mamba: network motif improved mamba for long-range sequence modeling

Efficient long-sequence modeling remains a central challenge for large language models, as self-attention scales quadratically with sequence length. Mamba offers a linear-time alternative through selective state space recurrence, but its predominantly diagonal state transitions restrict explicit interactions among state dimensions. We propose Motif-Mamba, a structured state space model that augments Mamba with a motif-constrained low-rank recurrent pathway. Inspired by the dynamics of three-node network motifs, the proposed pathway projects hidden states into a compact dynamical subspace, imposes motif-guided interactions, and maps the resulting dynamics back to the original state space. This design enhances cross-dimensional communication while preserving the linear-time recurrent structure of Mamba. Experiments on long-sequence extrapolation, language modeling benchmarks, and brain--computer interface decoding show consistent improvements over Mamba backbones, suggesting that motif-guided low-rank dynamics provide an effective structural prior for long-range sequence modeling.

MEDebiaser: A Human-AI Feedback System for Mitigating Bias in Multi-label Medical Image Classification

Medical images often contain multiple labels with imbalanced distributions and co-occurrence, leading to bias in multi-label medical image classification. Close collaboration between medical professionals and machine learning practitioners has significantly advanced medical image analysis. However, traditional collaboration modes struggle to facilitate effective feedback between physicians and AI models, as integrating medical expertise into the training process via engineers can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. To bridge this gap, we introduce MEDebiaser, an interactive system enabling physicians to directly refine AI models using local explanations. By combining prediction with attention loss functions and employing a customized ranking strategy to alleviate scalability, MEDebiaser allows physicians to mitigate biases without technical expertise, reducing reliance on engineers, and thus enhancing more direct human-AI feedback. Our mechanism and user studies demonstrate that it effectively reduces biases, improves usability, and enhances collaboration efficiency, providing a practical solution for integrating medical expertise into AI-driven healthcare.

HypoChainer: A Collaborative System Combining LLMs and Knowledge Graphs for Hypothesis-Driven Scientific Discovery

Modern scientific discovery faces growing challenges in integrating vast and heterogeneous knowledge critical to breakthroughs in biomedicine and drug development. Traditional hypothesis-driven research, though effective, is constrained by human cognitive limits, the complexity of biological systems, and the high cost of trial-and-error experimentation. Deep learning models, especially graph neural networks (GNNs), have accelerated prediction generation, but the sheer volume of outputs makes manual selection for validation unscalable. Large language models (LLMs) offer promise in filtering and hypothesis generation, yet suffer from hallucinations and lack grounding in structured knowledge, limiting their reliability. To address these issues, we propose HypoChainer, a collaborative visualization framework that integrates human expertise, LLM-driven reasoning, and knowledge graphs (KGs) to enhance hypothesis generation and validation. HypoChainer operates in three stages: First, exploration and contextualization -- experts use retrieval-augmented LLMs (RAGs) and dimensionality reduction to navigate large-scale GNN predictions, assisted by interactive explanations. Second, hypothesis chain formation -- experts iteratively examine KG relationships around predictions and semantically linked entities, refining hypotheses with LLM and KG suggestions. Third, validation prioritization -- refined hypotheses are filtered based on KG-supported evidence to identify high-priority candidates for experimentation, with visual analytics further strengthening weak links in reasoning. We demonstrate HypoChainer's effectiveness through case studies in two domains and expert interviews, highlighting its potential to support interpretable, scalable, and knowledge-grounded scientific discovery.

StratIncon Detector: Analyzing Strategy Inconsistencies Between Real-Time Strategy and Preferred Professional Strategy in MOBA Esports

MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games require a delicate interplay of strategic planning and real-time decision-making, particularly in professional esports, where players exhibit varying levels of skill and strategic insight. While team strategies have been widely studied, analyzing inconsistencies in professional matches remains a significant challenge. The complexity lies in defining and quantifying the difference between real-time and preferred professional strategies, as well as understanding the disparities between them. Establishing direct causal links between specific strategic decisions and game outcomes also demands a comprehensive analysis of the entire match progression. To tackle these challenges, we present the StratIncon Detector, a visual analytics system designed to assist professional players and coaches in efficiently identifying strategic inconsistencies. The system detects real-time strategies, predicts preferred professional strategies, extracts relevant human factors, and uncovers their impact on subsequent game phases. Findings from a case study, a user study with 24 participants, and expert interviews suggest that, compared to traditional methods, the StratIncon Detector enables users to more comprehensively and efficiently identify inconsistencies, infer their causes, evaluate their effects on subsequent game outcomes, and gain deeper insights into team collaboration-ultimately enhancing future teamwork.
