Multi-Label 12-Lead ECG Classification on the PTB-XL Dataset: A Comparative Evaluation of Deep Learning Architectures and Heterogeneous Ensemble Approaches

This study aimed to compare the performance of different deep learning architectures and heterogeneous ensemble learning approaches for multi-label 12-lead ECG classification on the PTB-XL dataset. Five different models, namely 1D-ResNet18, Bidirectional Mamba, xLSTM, CWT-ViT-KAN, and the pre-trained ECGFounder, were evaluated. Utilizing the recommended split structure of the PTB-XL dataset, folds 1-8 were allocated as the training set, fold 9 as the validation set, and fold 10 as the independent test set. In addition to the individual models, three different ensemble approaches were investigated: Equal-Weight Soft Voting, Validation-Weighted Soft Voting, and stacking. Among the individual models, the highest performance was achieved by ECGFounder, with a Macro AUROC of 0.930 and a Macro AUPRC of 0.823. For the ensemble models, the highest values in the primary macro performance metrics were obtained by the stacking approach, achieving a Macro AUROC of 0.936, a Macro AUPRC of 0.836, and a Macro F1 of 0.763. The highest subset accuracy of 0.630 was achieved using the Validation-Weighted Soft Voting method. The findings indicate that heterogeneous ensemble models, which combine different representation learning approaches, can provide additional performance improvements over individual models in multi-label ECG classification.

CNN Based Detection of Cardiovascular Diseases from ECG Images

This study develops a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model for detecting myocardial infarction (MI) from Electrocardiogram (ECG) images. The model, built using the InceptionV3 architecture and optimized through transfer learning, was trained using ECG data obtained from the Ch. Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology in Pakistan. The dataset includes ECG images representing four different cardiac conditions: myocardial infarction, abnormal heartbeat, history of myocardial infarction, and normal heart activity. The developed model successfully detects MI and other cardiovascular conditions with an accuracy of 93.27%. This study demonstrates that deep learning-based models can provide significant support to clinicians in the early detection and prevention of heart attacks.

Design of a System for Analyzing Cell Mechanics

Accurately measuring cell stiffness is challenging due to the invasiveness of traditional methods like atomic force microscopy (AFM) and optical stretching. We introduce a non-invasive off-axis system using holographic imaging and acoustic stimulation. This system features an off-axis Mach-Zehnder interferometer and bulk acoustic waves to capture cell mechanics. It employs high-resolution components to create detailed interferograms and allows continuous imaging of cell deformation. Unlike conventional techniques, our method provides high-throughput, label-free measurements while preserving cell integrity. Polyacrylamide beads are tested for high precision, highlighting the potential of the system in early cancer detection, disease monitoring, and mechanobiological research.

Biomechanical Analysis Of Breast Cancer Cells: A Comparative Study Of Invasive And Non-Invasive Cell Lines Using Digital Holographic Microscopy

This study investigates the biomechanical properties of breast cancer cells, focusing on the invasive MDA-MB-231 and non-invasive MCF-7 cell lines, using phase-shifting digital holographic microscopy and an acousto-holographic system for non-invasive strain measurement. Findings reveal higher strain values in MDA-MB-231 cells, indicative of their aggressive, metastatic nature, compared to lower strain values in MCF-7 cells. This variance in mechanical properties, potentially linked to distinct metabolic states and responses to external stimuli, underscores the role of cellular mechanics in cancer progression. The study advances understanding of breast cancer cell mechanics, highlighting biomechanical analysis as a crucial tool in cancer research and potential therapeutic interventions.

Comparative Analysis of Deep Learning Architectures for Breast Cancer Diagnosis Using the BreaKHis Dataset

Cancer is an extremely difficult and dangerous health problem because it manifests in so many different ways and affects so many different organs and tissues. The primary goal of this research was to evaluate deep learning models' ability to correctly identify breast cancer cases using the BreakHis dataset. The BreakHis dataset covers a wide range of breast cancer subtypes through its huge collection of histopathological pictures. In this study, we use and compare the performance of five well-known deep learning models for cancer classification: VGG, ResNet, Xception, Inception, and InceptionResNet. The results placed the Xception model at the top, with an F1 score of 0.9 and an accuracy of 89%. At the same time, the Inception and InceptionResNet models both hit accuracy of 87% . However, the F1 score for the Inception model was 87, while that for the InceptionResNet model was 86. These results demonstrate the importance of deep learning methods in making correct breast cancer diagnoses. This highlights the potential to provide improved diagnostic services to patients. The findings of this study not only improve current methods of cancer diagnosis, but also make significant contributions to the creation of new and improved cancer treatment strategies. In a nutshell, the results of this study represent a major advancement in the direction of achieving these vital healthcare goals.
