Accurate, Interdisciplinary and Transparent Structure-property Understanding with Deep Native Structural Reasoning

Structure-property relationships are foundational to biology, chemistry and materials science, where function, reactivity and physical response emerge from spatial, chemical and periodic organization. Mechanistically explaining these relationships requires interpreting structural evidence through scientific principles and physical constraints, from stereochemistry and bonding to symmetry, energetics and periodic order. However, applying artificial intelligence to this process presents a joint challenge of representation and reasoning: models must preserve domain-native structural information while showing how specific evidence supports predictions under these constraints. Here we introduce SciReasoner, a multimodal scientific foundation model for native structural reasoning across proteins, small molecules and inorganic crystals. SciReasoner discretizes coordinates, topologies and periodic connectivities into a unified structure-aware vocabulary, treating structural tokens as addressable evidence units during reasoning. In homology-controlled Gene Ontology prediction, SciReasoner improves Cellular Component annotation for low-homology and orphan-like proteins, increasing $F_{\max}$ from 0.42 to 0.55. In chemistry, it raises single-step retrosynthesis accuracy from 0.63 to 0.72 while generating fragment-level disconnection and precursor-verification traces. In materials science, its representations separate elemental and compound phases and resolve high- and low-band-gap regimes. Across 86 benchmarks, SciReasoner achieves state-of-the-art performance on 67 tasks. Double-blind expert evaluation rates its reasoning traces as preferred or at least comparable to those of a frontier large language model in 98% of cases. By making structure an inspectable substrate for reasoning under scientific constraints, SciReasoner connects accurate prediction with interpretable scientific inference.

Quantity Convergence, Quality Divergence: Disentangling Fluency and Accuracy in L2 Mandarin Prosody

While second language (L2) learners may acquire target syntactic word order, mapping this syntax onto appropriate prosodic structures remains a persistent challenge. This study investigates the fossilization and stability of the L2 syntax-prosody interface by comparing 67 native Mandarin speakers with 67 Vietnamese learners using the BLCU-SAIT corpus. By integrating C-ToBI boundary annotation with Dependency Grammar analysis, we examined both the quantity of prosodic boundaries and their mapping to syntactic relations. Results reveal a non-linear acquisition: although high-proficiency learners (VNH) converge to the native baseline in boundary quantity at the Major Phrase level (B3), their structural mapping significantly diverges. Specifically, VNH demote the prosodic boundary at the Subject-Verb (SBV) interface (Major Phrase B3 -> Prosodic Word B1), while erroneously promoting the boundary at the Verb-Object (VOB) interface (Prosodic Word B1 -> Major Phrase B3). This strategy allows learners to maintain high long phrasal output at the expense of structural accuracy. This results in a distorted prosodic hierarchy where the native pattern is inverted.

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution over 50.4 km fiber using integrated silicon photonic transmitter and receiver

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is the fastest-growing and relatively mature technology in the field of quantum information, enabling information-theoretically secure key distribution between two remote users. Although QKD based on off-the-shelf telecom components has been validated in both laboratory and field tests, its high cost and large volume remain major obstacles to large-scale deployment. Photonic integration, featured by its compact size and low cost, offers an effective approach to addressing the above challenges faced by QKD. Here, we implement a high-performance, integrated local local oscillator continuous-variable (CV) QKD system based on an integrated silicon photonic transmitter and receiver. By employing a high-speed silicon photonic integrated in-phase and quadrature modulator, a low-noise and high bandwidth silicon photonic integrated heterodyne detector, and digital signal processing, our CV-QKD system achieves a symbol rate of up to 1.5625 GBaud. Furthermore, the system achieves asymptotic secret key rates of 31.05 and 5.05 Mbps over 25.8 and 50.4 km standard single-mode fiber, respectively, using an 8-phase-shift keying discrete modulation. Our integrated CV-QKD system with high symbol rate and long transmission distance pays the way for the quantum secure communication network at metropolitan area.

Highly integrated broadband entropy source for quantum random number generators based on vacuum fluctuations

In this work, we designed and experimentally verified a highly integrated broadband entropy source for a quantum random number generator (QRNG) based on vacuum fluctuations. The core of the entropy source is a hybrid laser-and-silicon-photonics chip, which is only 6.3 $ \times $ 2.6 $ \times $ 1.5 mm$^{3}$ in size. A balanced homodyne detector based on cascaded radio-frequency amplifiers in the entropy source achieves a 3 dB bandwidth of 2.4 GHz and a common-mode rejection ratio above 25 dB. The quantum-to-classical-noise ratio is 9.51 dB at a photoelectron current of 1 mA. The noise equivalent power and equivalent transimpedance are 8.85$\,\text{pW}/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ , and 22.8 k$\Omega$, respectively. After optimization using equalizer technology that eliminates the dependence of adjacent samples, the quantum random number generation rate reaches 67.9 Gbps under average conditional minimum entropy and 61.9 Gbps under the worst-case conditional minimum entropy. The developed hybrid chip enhances the integrability and speed of QRNG entropy sources based on vacuum fluctuations.

Mask-informed Deep Contrastive Incomplete Multi-view Clustering

Multi-view clustering (MvC) utilizes information from multiple views to uncover the underlying structures of data. Despite significant advancements in MvC, mitigating the impact of missing samples in specific views on the integration of knowledge from different views remains a critical challenge. This paper proposes a novel Mask-informed Deep Contrastive Incomplete Multi-view Clustering (Mask-IMvC) method, which elegantly identifies a view-common representation for clustering. Specifically, we introduce a mask-informed fusion network that aggregates incomplete multi-view information while considering the observation status of samples across various views as a mask, thereby reducing the adverse effects of missing values. Additionally, we design a prior knowledge-assisted contrastive learning loss that boosts the representation capability of the aggregated view-common representation by injecting neighborhood information of samples from different views. Finally, extensive experiments are conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed Mask-IMvC method over state-of-the-art approaches across multiple MvC datasets, both in complete and incomplete scenarios.

Calibration of cascaded phase shifters using pairwise scan method in silicon photonics integrated chip

Cascaded phase shifters (CPSs) based on silicon photonics integrated chips play important roles in quantum information processing tasks. Owing to an increase in the scale of silicon photonics chips, the time required to calibrate various CPSs has increased. We propose a pairwise scan method for rapidly calibrating CPSs by introducing equivalent Mach Zehnder Interferometer structures and a reasonable constraint of the initial relative phase. The calibration can be nearly completed when the scanning process is finished, and only a little calculation is required. To achieve better performance, the key components, thermal optical phase shifter and 2 * 2 50/50 multimode interference coupler, were simulated and optimized to prevent thermal crosstalk and ensure a good balance. A 6-CPSs structure in a packaged silicon photonics chip under different temperature was used to verify the rapid pairwise scan method, and a fidelity of 99.97% was achieved.

Compact quantum random number generator based on a laser diode and silicon photonics integrated hybrid chip

In this study, a compact and low-power-consumption quantum random number generator (QRNG) based on a laser diode and silicon photonics integrated hybrid chip is proposed and verified experimentally. The hybrid chip's size is 8.8*2.6*1 mm3, and the power of entropy source is 80 mW. A common mode rejection ratio greater than 40 dB was achieved using an optimized 1*2 multimode interferometer structure. A method for optimizing the quantum-to-classical noise ratio is presented. A quantum-to-classical noise ratio of approximately 9 dB was achieved when the photoelectron current is 1 microampere using a balance homodyne detector with a high dark current GeSi photodiode. The proposed QRNG has the potential for use in scenarios of moderate MHz random number generation speed, with low power, small volume, and low cost prioritized.
