Migration of gold atoms into a thiol-bonded molecular self-assembled monolayer, forming a cluster exhibiting a Coulomb staircase

Thiol-based self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold surfaces are one of the fundamental building blocks of molecular electronics. The strong chemical affinity of the gold and sulfur (Au-S) enables the formation of close-packed SAMs, but it also has recently been found to create a dynamic interface where surface reconstruction can occur under illumination, even with ambient light. This reconstruction may facilitate migration of gold atoms, potentially leading to in-situ formation of gold clusters. However, research on this mechanism often centers on Au(111) crystalline surfaces and flicker-noise measurements. Electron transport in ensembles of molecules in lithographically defined junctions has remained largely unexplored at cryogenic temperatures. In this study, we observe single-electron phenomena characterized by reproducible Coulomb staircases across various long-chain alkanethiol SAMs, which fit the Coulomb-blockade theory of nm-sized metallic nanoparticles. We find no such current steps in samples with amine, rather than thiol, anchors. Additionally, we find that by adding a bipyridyl functional group, these phenomena can be harnessed for memristive switching and negative differential resistance. These findings indicate that the generally observed lack of reliability and reproducibility of molecular devices may be alleviated by using amine anchors instead of thiols to avoid nanoparticle effects. Conversely, the spontaneous formation of the nanoparticles could potentially be controlled and used to achieve useful functionalities, offering new pathways for designing multifunctional nanoelectronic components.

Mass of $C^0$-asymptotically hyperbolic spaces via the normalized Ricci-DeTurck flow

We define a mass function on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds with continuous metrics via the normalized Ricci DeTurck flow. This definition coincides with the classical mass for smooth metrics. We also introduce the scalar curvature lower bound for continuous metrics a key component in establishing the well-definedness of the continuous mass.

Stability of volume and area preserving mean curvature flow in asymptotic Schwarzschild space

In this paper, we investigate the stability of the volume preserving mean curvature flow (VPMCF) and area preserving mean curvature flow (APMCF) in the Schwarzschild space. We show that if the initial hypersurface is sufficiently close to a coordinate sphere, these flows exist globally and converge smoothly to a constant mean curvature (CMC) hypersurface, namely a coordinate sphere. For asymptotically Schwarzschild space, if the initial hypersurface has pinched curvature outside of some large compact set, or more orecisely sufficiently close to an isoperimetric hypersurface, outside of some large compact set in C^2 sense, we will apply similar method combined with the center manifold analysis to see that the flow still exists for all time and converges to CMC hypersurface exponentially fast. This in particular gives an existence result for a CMC hypersurface in asymptotically flat space.

Constant Harmonic Mean Curvature Foliation in Asymptotic Schwarzschild Spaces-II

This paper extends the results of [GLS24], where the existence of a constant harmonic mean curvature foliation was established in the setting of a 3-dimensional asymptotically Schwarzschild manifold. Here, we generalize this construction to higher dimensions, proving the existence of foliations by constant harmonic mean curvature hypersurfaces in an asymptotically Schwarzschild manifold of arbitrary dimension. Furthermore, in 3 dimensional case, we demonstrate the local uniqueness of this foliation under a stronger decay conditions on the asymptotically Schwarzschild metric

MAGI-1: Autoregressive Video Generation at Scale

We present MAGI-1, a world model that generates videos by autoregressively predicting a sequence of video chunks, defined as fixed-length segments of consecutive frames. Trained to denoise per-chunk noise that increases monotonically over time, MAGI-1 enables causal temporal modeling and naturally supports streaming generation. It achieves strong performance on image-to-video (I2V) tasks conditioned on text instructions, providing high temporal consistency and scalability, which are made possible by several algorithmic innovations and a dedicated infrastructure stack. MAGI-1 facilitates controllable generation via chunk-wise prompting and supports real-time, memory-efficient deployment by maintaining constant peak inference cost, regardless of video length. The largest variant of MAGI-1 comprises 24 billion parameters and supports context lengths of up to 4 million tokens, demonstrating the scalability and robustness of our approach. The code and models are available at https://github.com/SandAI-org/MAGI-1 and https://github.com/SandAI-org/MagiAttention. The product can be accessed at https://sand.ai.

Foliation of constant harmonic mean curvature surfaces in asymptotic Schwarzschild spaces

This paper investigates the volume-preserving harmonic mean curvature flow in asymptotically Schwarzschild spaces. We demonstrate the long-time existence and exponential convergence of this flow with a coordinate sphere of large radius serving as the initial surface in the asymptotically flat end, which eventually converges to a constant harmonic mean curvature surface. We also establish that these surfaces form a foliation of the space outside a large ball. Finally, we utilize this foliation to define the center of mass, proving that it agrees with the center of mass defined by the ADM formulation of the initial data set.

Stability of the area preserving mean curvature flow in asymptotic Schwarzschild space

We first demonstrate that the area preserving mean curvature flow of hypersurfaces in space forms exists for all time and converges exponentially fast to a round sphere if the integral of the traceless second fundamental form is sufficiently small. Then we show that from sufficiently large initial coordinate sphere, the area preserving mean curvature flow exists for all time and converges exponentially fast to a constant mean curvature surface in 3-dimensional asymptotically Schwarzschild spaces. This provides a new approach to the existence of foliation established by Huisken and Yau. And also a uniqueness result follows

Scalar curvature lower bounds on asymptotically flat manifolds

In this paper, we consider the scalar curvature in the distributional sense of \cite{MR3366052} and the scalar curvature lower bound in the $β-$weak $(β\in(0, \frac{1}{2}))$ sense of \cite{MR4685089} on an asymptotically flat $n-$manifold with a $W^{1,p}(p>n)$ metric. We first show that the scalar curvature lower bound under the Ricci-DeTurck flow depends on the scalar curvature lower bound in the $β-$weak sense and the time. Then we prove that the lower bound of the distributional scalar curvature of a $W^{1, p}$ metric coincides with the lower bound of the scalar curvature in the $β-$weak sense at infinity.

Edge Addition and the Change in Kemeny's Constant

Given a connected graph $G$, Kemeny's constant $\mathcal{K}({G})$ measures the average travel time for a random walk to reach a randomly selected vertex. It is known that when an edge is added to $G$, the value of Kemeny's constant may either decrease, increase, or stay the same. In this paper, we present a quantitative analysis of this behaviour when the initial graph is a tree with $n$ vertices. We prove that when an edge is added into a tree on $n$ vertices, the maximum possible increase in Kemeny's constant is roughly $\frac{2}{3}n,$ while the maximum possible decrease is roughly $\frac{3}{16}n^2$. We also identify the trees, and the edges to be added, that correspond to the maximum increase and maximum decrease. Throughout, both matrix theoretic and graph theoretic techniques are employed.

Quantum Error Correction Scheme for Fully Correlated Noise

This paper investigates quantum error correction schemes for fully-correlated noise channels on an $n$-qubit system, where error operators take the form $W^{\otimes n}$, with $W$ being an arbitrary $2\times 2$ unitary operator. In previous literature, a recursive quantum error correction scheme can be used to protect $k$ qubits using $(k+1)$-qubit ancilla. We implement this scheme on 3-qubit and 5-qubit channels using the IBM quantum computers, where we uncover an error in the previous paper related to the decomposition of the encoding/decoding operator into elementary quantum gates. Here, we present a modified encoding/decoding operator that can be efficiently decomposed into (a) standard gates available in the \texttt{qiskit} library and (b) basic gates comprised of single-qubit gates and CNOT gates. Since IBM quantum computers perform relatively better with fewer basic gates, a more efficient decomposition gives more accurate results. Our experiments highlight the importance of an efficient decomposition for the encoding/decoding operators and demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed schemes in correcting quantum errors. Furthermore, we explore a special type of channel with error operators of the form $σ_x^{\otimes n}, σ_y^{\otimes n}$ and $σ_z^{\otimes n}$, where $σ_x, σ_y, σ_z$ are the Pauli matrices. For these channels, we implement a hybrid quantum error correction scheme that protects both quantum and classical information using IBM's quantum computers. We conduct experiments for $n = 3, 4, 5$ and show significant improvements compared to recent work.

The positive mass theorem for non-spin manifolds with distributional curvature

We prove the positive mass theorem for manifolds with distributional curvature which have been studied in \cite{Lee2015} without spin condition. In our case, the manifold $M$ has asymptotically flat metric $g\in C^0\bigcap W^{1,p}_{-q}$, $p>n$, $q>\frac{n-2}{2}$. We show that the generalized ADM mass $m_{ADM}(M,g)$ is non-negative as long as $q=n-2$, and $g$ has non-negative distributional scalar curvature, bounded curvature in the Alexandrov sense with its distributional Ricci curvature belonging to certain weighted Lebesgue space and some extra conditions.

The isoperimetric inequality in steady Ricci solitons

We prove that the isoperimetric inequality is satisfied in the cigar steady soliton and in the Bryant steady soliton. Since both of them are Riemannian manifolds with warped product metric, we utilize the result of Guan-Li-Wang to get our conclusion. For the sake of the soliton structure, we believe that the geometric restrictions for manifolds in which the isoperimetric inequality holds are naturally satisfied for steady Ricci solitons.

Microstructure and elevated-temperature mechanical properties of refractory AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr High Entropy Alloy fabricated by powder metallurgy

New approaches for the design of alloy systems with multiprincipal elements is recently researched in refractory materials field. However, most research aimed at arc melting process with weakness of coarsening of grains and inhomogeneous microstructure of segregation of elements during the cooling. This study aims to design and fabricate high-entropy alloy with powder metallurgy. In this study, a refractory high entropy alloys with composition near AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr were produced by powder metallurgy. The alloy consists of two body-centered cubic (BCC) phases. One phase was disordered BCC enriched with Mo, Nb and Ta and the other phase was ordered BCC enriched with Al and Zr. The AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr alloy had a density of 7.46g/cm3 and Vickers microhardness of 678HV. Its compressive yield strength was 2466MPa at 298K and 964MPa at 1273K. The properties of the alloy and the beneficial effects from powder metallurgy on the microstructure and properties were outlined.
