See Only When Needed: Context-Aware Attention Intervention for Mitigating Hallucinations in LVLMs

Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) excel at multimodal tasks but remain prone to object hallucinations. Prior training-free remedies often uniformly strengthen visual signals, which may also amplify irrelevant regions and introduce spurious evidence, harming fluency. We propose Context-aware Attention Intervention (CAI), a training-free inference-time mechanism that enforces a see only when needed principle via two-axis selectivity: where to look and when to intervene. At each decoding step, CAI derives token-specific visual relevance from early-layer representations to localize semantically aligned regions, and applies a conservative, entropy- and depth-gated attention tilt only for uncertainty-spiking tokens in deeper layers where visual grounding degrades, leaving confident tokens and irrelevant regions largely unchanged. This targeted intervention strengthens visual grounding while preserving linguistic fluency, and it yields consistent improvements even without contrastive decoding, which remains optional as an auxiliary bias-suppression module. Extensive experiments across multiple LVLM backbones and benchmarks show that CAI achieves state-of-the-art hallucination mitigation, and our analysis characterizes CAI as a KL-minimal attention reweighting with bounded interference under inactive gates or small tilts. A Physically-Grounded Attack and Adaptive Defense Framework for Real-World Low-Light Image Enhancement

Limited illumination often causes severe physical noise and detail degradation in images. Existing Low-Light Image Enhancement (LLIE) methods frequently treat the enhancement process as a blind black-box mapping, overlooking the physical noise transformation during imaging, leading to suboptimal performance. To address this, we propose a novel LLIE approach, conceptually formulated as a physics-based attack and display-adaptive defense paradigm. Specifically, on the attack side, we establish a physics-based Degradation Synthesis (PDS) pipeline. Unlike standard data augmentation, PDS explicitly models Image Signal Processor (ISP) inversion to the RAW domain, injects physically plausible photon and read noise, and re-projects the data to the sRGB domain. This generates high-fidelity training pairs with explicitly parameterized degradation vectors, effectively simulating realistic attacks on clean signals. On the defense side, we construct a dual-layer fortified system. A noise predictor estimates degradation parameters from the input sRGB image. These estimates guide a degradation-aware Mixture of Experts (DA-MoE), which dynamically routes features to experts specialized in handling specific noise intensities. Furthermore, we introduce an Adaptive Metric Defense (AMD) mechanism, dynamically calibrating the feature embedding space based on noise severity, ensuring robust representation learning under severe degradation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach offers significant plug-and-play performance enhancement for existing benchmark LLIE methods, effectively suppressing real-world noise while preserving structural fidelity. MetaTPT: Meta Test-time Prompt Tuning for Vision-Language Models

Vision-language models (VLMs) such as CLIP exhibit strong zero-shot generalization but remain sensitive to domain shifts at test time. Test-time prompt tuning (TPT) mitigates this issue by adapting prompts with fixed augmentations, which may falter in more challenging settings. In this work, we propose Meta Test-Time Prompt Tuning (MetaTPT), a meta-learning framework that learns a self-supervised auxiliary task to guide test-time prompt tuning. The auxiliary task dynamically learns parameterized augmentations for each sample, enabling more expressive transformations that capture essential features in target domains. MetaTPT adopts a dual-loop optimization paradigm: an inner loop learns a self-supervised task that generates informative views, while the outer loop performs prompt tuning by enforcing consistency across these views. By coupling augmentation learning with prompt tuning, MetaTPT improves test-time adaptation under domain shifts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MetaTPT achieves state-of-the-art performance on domain generalization and cross-dataset benchmarks.

Empowering Clinical Trial Design through AI: A Randomized Evaluation of PowerGPT

Sample size calculations for power analysis are critical for clinical research and trial design, yet their complexity and reliance on statistical expertise create barriers for many researchers. We introduce PowerGPT, an AI-powered system integrating large language models (LLMs) with statistical engines to automate test selection and sample size estimation in trial design. In a randomized trial to evaluate its effectiveness, PowerGPT significantly improved task completion rates (99.3% vs. 88.9% for test selection, 99.3% vs. 77.8% for sample size calculation) and accuracy (94.1% vs. 55.4% in sample size estimation, p < 0.001), while reducing average completion time (4.0 vs. 9.3 minutes, p < 0.001). These gains were consistent across various statistical tests and benefited both statisticians and non-statisticians as well as bridging expertise gaps. Already under deployment across multiple institutions, PowerGPT represents a scalable AI-driven approach that enhances accessibility, efficiency, and accuracy in statistical power analysis for clinical research.

Efficient Semiparametric Inference for Distributed Data with Blockwise Missingness

We consider statistical inference for a finite-dimensional parameter in a regular semiparametric model under a distributed setting with blockwise missingness, where entire blocks of variables are unavailable at certain sites and sharing individual-level data is not allowed. To improve efficiency of the internal study, we propose a class of augmented one-step estimators that incorporate information from external sites through ``transfer functions.'' The proposed approach has several advantages. First, it is communication-efficient, requiring only one-round communication of summary-level statistics. Second, it satisfies a do-no-harm property in the sense that the augmented estimator is no less efficient than the original one based solely on the internal data. Third, it is statistically optimal, achieving the semiparametric efficiency bound when the transfer function is appropriately estimated from data. Finally, it is scalable, remaining asymptotically normal even when the number of external sites and the data dimension grow exponentially with the internal sample size. Simulation studies confirm both the statistical efficiency and computational feasibility of our method in distributed settings.

OrigamiPlot: An R Package and Shiny Web App Enhanced Visualizations for Multivariate Data

We introduce OrigamiPlot, an open-source R package and Shiny web application designed to enhance the visualization of multivariate data. This package implements the origami plot, a novel visualization technique proposed by Duan et al. in 2023, which improves upon traditional radar charts by ensuring that the area of the connected region is invariant to the ordering of attributes, addressing a key limitation of radar charts. The software facilitates multivariate decision-making by supporting comparisons across multiple objects and attributes, offering customizable features such as auxiliary axes and weighted attributes for enhanced clarity. Through the R package and user-friendly Shiny interface, researchers can efficiently create and customize plots without requiring extensive programming knowledge. Demonstrated using network meta-analysis as a real-world example, OrigamiPlot proves to be a versatile tool for visualizing multivariate data across various fields. This package opens new opportunities for simplifying decision-making processes with complex data.
