Discrete space-time geometry and skeleton conception of particle dynamics

It is shown that properties of a discrete space-time geometry distinguish from properties of the Riemannian space-time geometry. The discrete geometry is a physical geometry, which is described completely by the world function. The discrete geometry is nonaxiomatizable and multivariant. The equivalence relation is intransitive in the discrete geometry. The particles are described by world chains (broken lines with finite length of links), because in the discrete space-time geometry there are no infinitesimal lengths. Motion of particles is stochastic, and statistical description of them leads to the Schrödinger equation, if the elementary length of the discrete geometry depends on the quantum constant in a proper way.

Relative localization of gravitational fields

A natural two-metric formalism, generated by the world function of the space-time, is used. This circumstance admits one to localize the relative gravitational field, which is described by a tensor.

Physics geometrization in microcosm: discrete space-time and relativity theory

The presented paper is a review of papers on the microcosm physics geometrization in the last twenty years. These papers develop a new direction of the microcosm physics. It is so-called geometric paradigm, which is alternative to the quantum paradigm, which is conventionally used now. The hypothesis on discreteness of the space-time geometry appears to be more fundamental, than the hypothesis on quantum nature of microcosm. Discrete space-time geometry admits one to describe quantum effects as pure geometric effects. Mathematical technique of the microcosm physics geometrization (geometric paradigm) is based on the physical geometry, which is described completely by the world function. Equations, describing motion of particles in the microcosm, are algebraic (not differential) equations. They are written in a coordinateless form in terms of world function. The geometric paradigm appeared as a result of overcoming of inconsistency of the conventional elementary particle theory. In the suggested skeleton conception the state of an elementary particle is described by its skeleton (several space-time points). The skeleton contains all information on the particle properties (mass, charge, spin, etc.). The skeleton conception is a monistic construction, where elementary particle motion is described in terms of skeleton and world function and only in these terms. The skeleton conception can be constructed only on the basis of the physical geometry. Unfortunately, most mathematicians do not accept the physical geometries, because these geometries are nonaxiomatizable. It is a repetition of the case, when mathematicians did not accept the non-Euclidean geometries of Lobachevsky-Bolyai. As a result this review is a review of papers of one author.

Incompleteness of the particle dynamics in microcosm and the skeleton conception of elementary particles as overcoming of this incompleteness

The skeleton conception of elementary particles is considered in the paper. Conventional particle dynamics is formulated in an unaccomplished form, which is adequate only in the continuous space-time geometry. The conventional differential equations of the particle motion cannot be written in the discrete space-time geometry. In the discrete space-time geometry the particle world line is replaced by the world chain. The world chain links has a finite length (not infinitesimal). The world chain appears to be stochastic. Statistical description of stochastic world chains leads to the Schrödinger equation, if the elementary length of the geometry is chosen in a proper way. The quantum principles are founded by existence of the discrete (and multivariant) space-time geometry and lose the role of prime physical principles. In the skeleton conception the particle is described by its skeleton (several rigidly connected space-time points). Skeleton conception of the elementary particles realizes a proper description of the particle state, which appears to be adequate in a discrete space-time geometry. The particle dynamics takes the form of a monistic conception, which is described completely in terms of the world function of the space-time geometry. The skeleton conception accomplishes the transition from nonrelativistic physics to the relativistic one and realizes the total geometrization of particle dynamics.

Discriminating properties of compactification in discrete uniform isotropic space-time

Compactification of the 5-dimensional Kaluza-Klein space-time geometry is considered. The space-time geometry is supposed to be discrete, uniform and isotropic. It is shown, that consideration of the space-time geometry as a physical geometry, i.e. as a geometry described completely by the single-valued world function, leads to a discrimination of some values of the particle charge. At the conventional approach, when the world function becomes to be many-valued after compactification, the value of the elementary particle electric charge remains to be unrestricted, and this fact does not agree with experimental data. It is important, that the discrete geometry is given on the continual set of points. This circumstance makes admissible a compatibility of discreteness with the uniformity and isotropy of the geometry.

Uniform formalism for description of dynamic quantum and stochastic systems

The formalism of the particle dynamics in the space-time, where motion of free particles is primordially stochastic, is considered. The conventional dynamic formalism, obtained for the space-time, where the motion of free particles is primordially deterministic, seems to be unsuitable. The statistical ensemble of stochastic (or deterministic) systems is considered to be the main object of dynamics. At such a logical reloading the statistical description becomes a component of dynamics, and capacities of dynamics increase. At such an approach one can describe deterministic, stochastic and quantum particles by means of the uniform technique. The quantum particle is described as a stochastic particle, i.e. without a reference to the quantum principles. Besides, by means of this technique one can describe classical inviscid fluid. There are four different versions of the formalism: (1) description in Euler dynamic variables, (2) description in Lagrange dynamic variables, (3) description in terms of the generalized stream function, (4) description in terms of the wave function. The uniform formalism is purely dynamic. Even describing stochastic systems, it does not refer to probability and probabilistic structures. In relativistic case the uniform formalism can describe pair production and pair annihilation.

Different representations of Euclidean geometry and their application to the space-time geometry

Three different representation of the proper Euclidean geometry are considered. They differ in the number of basic elements, from which the geometrical objects are constructed. In E-representation there are three basic elements (point, segment, angle) and no additional structures. V-representation contains two basic elements (point, vector) and additional structure: linear vector space. In sigma-representation there is only one basic element and additional structure: world function σ=ρ^{2}/2, where ρis the distance. The concept of distance appears in all representations. However, as a structure, determining the geometry, the distance appears only in the sigma-representation. The sigma-representation is most appropriate for modification of the proper Euclidean geometry. Practically any modification of the proper Euclidean geometry turns it into multivariant geometry, where there are many vectors Q_0Q_1, Q_0Q_1^{\prime},..., which are equal to the vector P_0P_1, but they are not equal between themselves, in general. Concept of multivariance is very important in application to the space-time geometry. The real space-time geometry is multivariant. Multivariance of the space-time geometry is responsible for quantum effects.

Non-Riemannian model of the space-time responsible for quantum effects

A class of homogeneous isotropic space-time models including pseudo-Euclidean space as a special case is considered. Such a model is chosen, where the particle motion is described in the most adequate way. It means that the world tubes of all free particles (both classical and quantal) are characteristic geometrical structures of the space-time. The world function $σ$ of this model has the form $σ=σ_E+σ_{0}$, $σ_E>σ_{0}$, where σ_E is the world function of the pseudo-Euclidean space, σ_0 is a constant responsible for quantum effects. It is proportional to Planck's constant \hbar .

Dirac equation in terms of hydrodynamic variables

The distributed system $\mathcal{S}_D$ described by the Dirac equation is investigated simply as a dynamic system, i.e. without usage of quantum principles. The Dirac equation is described in terms of hydrodynamic variables: 4-flux $j^{i}$, pseudo-vector of the spin $S^{i}$, an action $\hbar ϕ$ and a pseudo-scalar $κ$. In the quasi-uniform approximation, when all transversal derivatives (orthogonal to the flux vector $j^i$) are small, the system $\mathcal{S}_D$ turns to a statistical ensemble of classical concentrated systems $\mathcal{S}_{dc}$. Under some conditions the classical system $\mathcal{S}_{dc}$ describes a classical pointlike particle moving in a given electromagnetic field. In general, the world line of the particle is a helix, even if the electromagnetic field is absent. Both dynamic systems $\mathcal{S}_D$ and $\mathcal{S}_{dc}$ appear to be non-relativistic in the sense that the dynamic equations written in terms of hydrodynamic variables are not relativistically covariant with respect to them, although all dynamic variables are tensors or pseudo-tensors. They becomes relativistically covariant only after addition of a constant unit timelike vector $f^{i}$ which should be considered as a dynamic variable describing a space-time property. This "constant" variable arises instead of $γ$-matrices which are removed by means of zero divizors in the course of the transformation to hydrodynamic variables. It is possible to separate out dynamic variables $κ$, $κ^i$ responsible for quantum effects. It means that, setting $κ,κ^i\equiv 0$, the dynamic system $\mathcal{S}_D$ described by the Dirac equation turns to a statistical ensemble $\mathcal{E}_{Dqu}$ of classical dynamic systems $\mathcal{S}_{dc}$.

General relativity extended to non-Riemannian space-time geometry

The gravitation equations of the general relativity, written for Riemannian space-time geometry, are extended to the case of arbitrary (non-Riemannian) space-time geometry. The obtained equations are written in terms of the world function in the coordinateless form. These equations determine directly the world function, (but not only the metric tensor). As a result the space-time geometry appears to be non-Rieamannian. Invariant form of the obtained equations admits one to exclude influence of the coordinate system on solutions of dynamic equations. Anybody, who trusts in the general relativity, is to accept the extended general relativity, because the extended theory does not use any new hypotheses. It corrects only inconsequences and restrictions of the conventional conception of general relativity. The extended general relativity predicts an induced antigravitation, which eliminates existence of black holes.

Monistic conception of geometry

One considers the monistic conception of a geometry, where there is only one fundamental quantity (world function). All other geometrical quantities a derivative quantities (functions of the world function). The monisitc conception of a geometry is compared with pluralistic conceptions of a geometry, where there are several independent fundamental geometrical quantities. A generalization of a pluralistic conception of the proper Euclidean geometry appears to be inconsistent, if the generalized geometry is inhomogeneous. In particular, the Riemannian geometry appears to be inconsistent, in general, if it is obtained as a generalization of the pluralistic conception of the Euclidean geometry.

Generalization of the relativity theory on the arbitrary space-time geometry

Contemporary relativity theory is restricted in two points: (1) a use of the Riemannian space-time geometry and (2) a use of inadequate (nonrelativistic) concepts. Reasons of these restrictions are analysed in [1]. Eliminating these restrictions the relativity theory is generalized on the case of non-Riemannian (nonaxiomatizable) space-time geometry. Taking into account a progress of a geometry and introducing adequate relativistic concepts, the elementary particle dynamics is generalized on the case of arbitrary space-time geometry. A use of adequate relativistic concepts admits one to formulate the simple demonstrable dynamics of particles.

Logical reloading as overcoming of crisis in geometry

Properties of the logical reloading in the Euclidean geometry are considered. The logical reloading is a logical operation which replaces one system of basic concepts of a conception by another system of basic concepts of the same conception. The logical reloading does not change propositions of the conception. However, generalizations of the conception are different for different systems of basic concepts. It is conditioned by the fact, that some systems of basic concepts contain not only propositions of the conception, but also some attributes of this conception description. Properties of the logical reloading are demonstrated in the example of the proper Euclidean geometry, whose generalization leads to different results for different system of basic concepts.

Necessity of the general relativity revision and free motion of particles in non-Riemannian space-time geometry

It is shown, that a free motion of microparticles (elementary particles) in the gravitational field is multivariant (stochastic). This multivariance is conditioned by multivariant physical space-time geometry. The physical geometry is described completely by a world function. The Riemannian geometries form a small part of possible physical geometries. The contemporary theory of gravitation ignores existence of physical geometries. It supposes, that any space-time geometry is a Riemannian geometry. It is a mistake. As a result the contemporary theory of gravitation needs a revision. Besides, the Riemannian geometry is inconsistent, and conclusions of the gravitational theory, based on inconsistent geometry may be invalid. Free motion of macroparticles (planets), consisting of many connected microparticles, is deterministic, because connection of microparticles inside the macroparticle averages stochastic motion of single macroparticles.

Interfusion, labeling and stream lines in flow of inviscid barotropic fluid

It is shown that the Euler system of hydrodynamic equations for inviscid barotropic fluid for density and velocity is not a complete system of dynamic equations for the inviscicd barotropic fluid. It is only a closed subsystem of four dynamic equation. The complete system of dynamic equation consists of seven dynamic equations for seven dependent variables: density, velocity and labeling (Lagrangian coordinates, considered as dependent variables). Solution of the Cauchy problem for the Euler subsystem is unique. Solution of the Cauchy problem for the complete hydrodynamic system, containing seven equations, is unique only for irrotational flows. For vortical flows solution of the Cauchy problem is not unique. The reason of the nonuniqueness is an interfusion, which cannot be taken into account properly in the framework of hydrodynamics. There are some arguments in favour of connection between interfusion and turbulence.

Abel Prize 2009 as a necessitation to discussion on geometry, or physicist versus geometers

Contemporary geometers do not acknowledge nonaxomatizable geometries. This fact means that our knowledge of geometry is poor. A perfect knowledge of geometry is important for "consumers of geometry" (physicists dealing with geometry of microcosm), because poor knowledge of geometry forces physicists to refuse from the orthodox geometrical paradigm and to use the quantum paradigm, which is a simple fitting, compensating our imperfect knowledge of geometry.

Geometries with intransitive equivalence relation

One considers geometry with the intransitive equaivalence relation. Such a geometry is a physical geometry, i.e. it is described completely by the world function, which is a half of the squared distance function. The physical geometry cannot be axiomatized, in general. It is obtained as a result of deformation of the proper Euclidean geometry. Class of physical geometries is more powerful, than the class of axiomatized geometries. The physical geometry admits one to describe such geometric properties as discreteness, granularity and limited divisibility. These properties are important in application to the space-time. They admits one to explain the discrimination properties of the space-time, which generate discrete parameters of elementary particles. Mathematical formalism of a physical geometry is very simple. The physical geometry is formulated in geometrical terms (in terms of points and world function) without a use of means of description (coordinate system, space dimension, manifold, etc.).

Some subtleties of Riemannian geometry

It is shown, that the conventional presentation of the Maxwell equations for the electromagnetic field in the Riemannian space-time appears to be problematic. The reason of hesitations is the fact, that a solution of the Maxwell equations in the space-time of Minkowski do not turn into solution of the Maxwell equations in the Riemannian space-time after replacement of Minkowskian world function $σ_{M}$ by the world function $σ_R$ of the Riemannian space-time in the solution.
