Group gradings on the Lie and Jordan superalgebras $Q(n)$

We classify gradings by arbitrary abelian groups on the classical simple Lie and Jordan superalgebras $Q(n)$, $n \geq 2$, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from $2$ (and not dividing $n+1$ in the Lie case): fine gradings up to equivalence and $G$-gradings, for a fixed group $G$, up to isomorphism.

Growth of subalgebras and subideals in free Lie algebras

We investigate subalgebras in free Lie algebras, the main tool being relative growth and cogrowth functions. Our study reveals drastic differences in the behavior of proper finitely generated subalgebras and nonzero subideals. For instance, the \textit{growth} of a proper finitely generated subalgebra $H$ of a free Lie algebra $L$, with respect to any fixed free basis $X$, is exponentially small compared to the growth of the whole of $L$. Quite opposite, the \textit{cogrowth} of any nonzero subideal $S$ is exponentially small compared to the growth of $L$.

Group gradings on filiform Lie algebras

We classify, up to isomorphism, gradings by abelian groups on nilpotent filiform Lie algebras of nonzero rank. In case of rank 0, we describe conditions to obtain non trivial $\Z_k$-gradings.

Group gradings on restricted Cartan type Lie algebras

For a given abelian group G, we classify the isomorphism classes of G-gradings on the simple restricted Lie algebras of types W(m;1) and S(m;1) (m>=2), in terms of numerical and group-theoretical invariants. Our main tool is automorphism group schemes, which we determine for the simple restricted Lie algebras of types S(m;1) and H(m;1). The ground field is assumed to be algebraically closed of characteristic p>3.

Group gradings on finitary simple Lie algebras

We classify, up to isomorphism, all gradings by an arbitrary abelian group on simple finitary Lie algebras of linear transformations (special linear, orthogonal and symplectic) on infinite-dimensional vector spaces over an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from 2.

Filtrations and Distortion in Infinite-Dimensional Algebras

A tame filtration of an algebra is defined by the growth of its terms, which has to be majorated by an exponential function. A particular case is the degree filtration used in the definition of the growth of finitely generated algebras. The notion of tame filtration is useful in the study of possible distortion of degrees of elements when one algebra is embedded as a subalgebra in another. A geometric analogue is the distortion of the (Riemannian) metric of a (Lie) subgroup when compared to the metric induced from the ambient (Lie) group. The distortion of a subalgebra in an algebra also reflects the degree of complexity of the membership problem for the elements of this algebra in this subalgebra. One of our goals here is to investigate, mostly in the case of associative or Lie algebras, if a tame filtration of an algebra can be induced from the degree filtration of a larger algebra.

Classification of group gradings on simple Lie algebras of types A, B, C and D

For a given abelian group G, we classify the isomorphism classes of G-gradings on the simple Lie algebras of types A_n (n >= 1), B_n (n >= 2), C_n (n >= 3) and D_n (n > 4), in terms of numerical and group-theoretical invariants. The ground field is assumed to be algebraically closed of characteristic different from 2.

Gradings on simple algebras of finitary matrices

We describe gradings by finite abelian groups on the associative algebras of infinite matrices with finitely many nonzero entries, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero.

Actions of Maximal Growth

We study acts and modules of maximal growth over finitely generated free monoids and free associative algebras as well as free groups and free group algebras. The maximality of the growth implies some other specific properties of these acts and modules that makes them close to the free ones; at the same time, we show that being a strong "infiniteness" condition, the maximality of the growth can still be combined with various finiteness conditions, which would normally make finitely generated acts finite and finitely generated modules finite-dimensional.

Schreier rewriting beyond the classical setting

Using actions of free monoids and free associative algebras, we establish some Schreier-type formulas involving the ranks of actions and the ranks of subactions in free actions or Grassmann-type relations for the ranks of intersections of subactions of free actions. The coset action of the free group is used to establish the generalization of the Schreier formula to the case of subgroups of infinite index. We also study and apply large modules over free associative algebras in the spirit of the paper Olshanskii, A. Yu.; Osin, D.V., Large groups and their periodic quotients, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 136 (2008), 753 - 759.

(Z/2Z x Z/2Z)-symmetric spaces

The notion of a $Γ$-symmetric space is a generalization of the classical notion of a symmetric space, where a general finite abelian group $Γ$ replaces the group $Z_2$. The case $Γ=\Z_k$ has also been studied, from the algebraic point of view by V.Kac \cite{VK} and from the point of view of the differential geometry by Ledger, Obata, Kowalski or Wolf - Gray in terms of $k$-symmetric spaces. In this case, a $k$-manifold is an homogeneous reductive space and the classification of these varieties is given by the corresponding classification of graded Lie algebras. The general notion of a $Γ$-symmetric space was introduced by R.Lutz. We approach the classification of such spaces in the case $Γ=Z_2^2$ using recent results on the classification of complex $Z_2^2$-graded simple Lie algebras.

In this paper we describe graded automorphisms and antiautomorphisms of finite order on matrix algebras endowed with a group gradings by a finite abelian group over an arbitrary algebraically closed field of charcteristic different from 2.

Large Restricted Lie Algebras

We establish some results about large restricted Lie algebras similar to those known in the Group Theory. As an application we use this group-theoretic approach to produce some examples of restricted as well as ordinary Lie algebras which can serve as counterexamples for various Burnside-type questions.
