Normal forms approach to diffusion near hyperbolic equilibria

We consider the exit problem for small white noise perturbation of a smooth dynamical system on the plane in the neighborhood of a hyperbolic critical point. We show that if the distribution of the initial condition has a scaling limit then the exit distribution and exit time also have a joint scaling limit as the noise intensity goes to zero. The limiting law is computed explicitly. The result completes the theory of noisy heteroclinic networks in two dimensions. The analysis is based on normal forms theory.

Scaling Limit for the Diffusion Exit Problem in the Levinson Case

The exit problem for small perturbations of a dynamical system in a domain is considered. It is assumed that the unperturbed dynamical system and the domain satisfy the Levinson conditions. We assume that the random perturbation affects the driving vector field and the initial condition, and each of the components of the perturbation follows a scaling limit. We derive the joint scaling limit for the random exit time and exit point. We use this result to study the asymptotics of the exit time for 1-d diffusions conditioned on rare events.

Decision making times in mean-field dynamic Ising model

We consider a dynamic mean-field ferromagnetic model in the low-temperature regime in the neighborhood of the zero magnetization state. We study the random time it takes for the system to make a decision, i.e., to exit the neighborhood of the unstable equilibrium and approach one of the two stable equilibrium points. We prove a limit theorem for the distribution of this random time in the thermodynamic limit.

Thermodynamic Limit for Large Random Trees

We consider Gibbs distributions on finite random plane trees with bounded branching. We show that as the order of the tree grows to infinity, the distribution of any finite neighborhood of the root of the tree converges to a limit. We compute the limiting distribution explicitly and study its properties. We introduce an infinite random tree consistent with these limiting distributions and show that it satisfies a certain form of the Markov property. We also study the growth of this tree and prove several limit theorems including a diffusion approximation.

Noisy heteroclinic networks

We consider a white noise perturbation of dynamics in the neighborhood of a heteroclinic network. We show that under the logarithmic time rescaling the diffusion converges in distributon in a special topology to a piecewise constant process that jumps between saddle points along the heteroclinic orbits of the network. We also obtain precise asymptotics for the exit measure for a domain containing the starting point of the diffusion.

Localization and Perron--Frobenius theory for directed polymers

We consider directed polymers in a random potential given by a deterministic profile with a strong maximum at the origin taken with random sign at each integer time. We study two main objects based on paths in this random potential. First, we use the random potential and averaging over paths to define a parabolic model via a random Feynman--Kac evolution operator. We show that for the resulting cocycle, there is a unique positive cocycle eigenfunction serving as a forward and pullback attractor. Secondly, we use the potential to define a Gibbs specification on paths for any bounded time interval in the usual way and study the thermodynamic limit and existence and uniqueness of an infinite volume Gibbs measure. Both main results claim that the local structure of interaction leads to a unique macroscopic object for almost every realization of the random potential.

Self-Similar Markov Processes on Cantor Set

We define analogues of Brownian motion on the triadic Cantor set by introducing a few natural requirements on the Markov semigroup. We give a detailed description of these symmetric self-similar processes and study their properties such as mixing and moment asymptotics.

Poisson Limit for Associated Random Fields

We prove that under an easily verifiable set of conditions a sequence of associated random fields converges under rescaling to the Poisson Point Process and give a couple of examples.

Large Deviations for Random Trees and the Branching of RNA Secondary Structures

We give a Large Deviation Principle (LDP) with explicit rate function for the distribution of vertex degrees in plane trees, a combinatorial model of RNA secondary structures. We calculate the typical degree distributions based on nearest neighbor free energies, and compare our results with the branching configurations found in two sets of large RNA secondary structures. We find substantial agreement overall, with some interesting deviations which merit further study.

Large Deviations for Random Trees

We consider large random trees under Gibbs distributions and prove a Large Deviation Principle (LDP) for the distribution of degrees of vertices of the tree. The LDP rate function is given explicitly. An immediate consequence is a Law of Large Numbers for the distribution of vertex degrees in a large random tree. Our motivation for this study comes from the analysis of RNA secondary structures.

Malliavin Calculus for Infinite-Dimensional Systems with Additive Noise

We consider an infinite-dimensional dynamical system with polynomial nonlinearity and additive noise given by a finite number of Wiener processes. By studying how randomness is spread by the system we develop a counterpart of Hormander's classical theory in this setting. We study the distributions of finite-dimensional projections of the solutions and give conditions that provide existence and smoothness of densities of these distributions with respect to the Lebesgue measure. We also apply our results to concrete SPDEs such as Stochastic Reaction Diffusion Equation and Stochastic 2D Navier--Stokes System.

Stationary Solutions of Stochastic Differential Equation with Memory and Stochastic Partial Differential Equations

We explore Ito stochastic differential equations where the drift term possibly depends on the infinite past. Assuming the existence of a Lyapunov function, we prove the existence of a stationary solution assuming only minimal continuity of the coefficients. Uniqueness of the stationary solution is proven if the dependence on the past decays sufficiently fast. The results of this paper are then applied to stochastically forced dissipative partial differential equations such as the stochastic Navier-Stokes equation and stochastic Ginsburg-Landau equation.
