A Collimation System Baseline Design for the Electron Storage Ring at the Electron-Ion Collider

We present the baseline design of the electron ring collimation system for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The system addresses beam losses in a high-current electron storage ring with superconducting (SC) final-focus magnets and sensitive detectors, where uncontrolled losses can generate heat loads, radiation, and detector backgrounds and damage. The proposed collimation insertion localizes halo particle losses through reducing interaction region beam losses from beam-gas and Touschek scattering by several orders of magnitude while keeping detector backgrounds and cryostat heat loads within acceptable limits. Multi-turn particle tracking simulations show that the collimators do not significantly impact machine acceptance or beam lifetime, and their positions and apertures can be re-optimized for future lattice configurations. Ongoing work includes incorporating crab cavities and solenoid fields into simulations, refining vacuum conditions, and optimizing collimator geometry and materials. This design establishes a robust baseline for the EIC electron ring collimation system and supports continued lattice optimization for machine operations.

Octupole based current horn suppresion in multi-stage bunch compression with emittance growth correction

High brightness linear accelerators typically produce electron beams with peaks in the head and/or tail of the current profile. These current horns are formed after bunch compression due to non-linear correlations in the longitudinal phase space and the higher order optics of the compressor. It has been suggested that this higher order compression can be corrected by inserting an octupole magnet near the center of a bunch compressor. However, this scheme provides a correlated transverse kick leading to growth of the projected emittance. We present here a method whereby octupole magnets are inserted into two sequential bunch compressors. By tuning a $π$ betatron phase advance between the two octupoles, the correlated transverse kick from the first octupole can be corrected by the second, while providing a cummulative adjustment of the higher order compression.

DASEL: Dark Sector Experiments at LCLS-II

This paper describes the concept for the DArk Sector Experiments at LCLS-II (DASEL) facility which provides a near-CW beam of multi-GeV electrons to the SLAC End Station A for experiments in particle physics. The low-current multi-GeV electron beam is produced parasitically by the superconducting RF linac for the LCLS-II X-ray Free Electron Laser, which is under construction at SLAC. DASEL is designed to host experiments to detect light dark matter such as the Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX) but can be configured to support a wide range of other experiments requiring current ranging from pico-amps to micro-amps.

ILC Extraction Line Simulations with TDR Parameters

The goal of this study is to evaluate the impact of the latest ILC beam parameters at the Interaction Point (IP), as specified in the 2013 ILC Technical Design Report (TDR), on beam losses in the extraction line. The previous beam loss evaluation was based on the parameters specified in the 2007 ILC Reference Design Report (RDR). The results of this study are compared to the results obtained in the past for the ``nominal'' and the ``low power'' (low-P) parameter options of the RDR. The initial disrupted beam distribution at IP was generated using Guinea-Pig code, and the beam losses were obtained in tracking simulations using DIMAD. The study is performed for 500 GeV center-of-mass beam energy and the extraction line optics corresponding to the latest final focus optics with L* = 4.5 m, with and without detector solenoid.

A Feasibility Study of an e+e- Ring Collider for Higgs Factory

A ring-based Higgs factory with a center-of-mass energy of 240 GeV residing in the existing LEP tunnel is studied at a level of concrete lattice. We found that low-emittance lattice is essential to mitigate the effect of beamstrahlung on the beam lifetime. To achieve a luminosity of $1.0\times10^{34}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$, we simplified final focusing system and improved its momentum aperture by a factor of 5 to 2.5%.

Dynamical Effects Due to Fringe Field of the Magnet in Circular Accelerators

The leading Lie generators, including the chromatic effects, due to hard-edge fringe field of single multipole and solenoid are derived from the vector potentials within a Hamiltonian system. These nonlinear generators are applied to the interaction region of PEP-II to analyze the linear errors due to the feed-down from the off-centered quadrupoles and solenoid. The nonlinear effects of tune shifts at large amplitude, the synchro-betatron sidebands near half integer and their impacts on the dynamic aperture are studied in the paper.
