Phase solitons in a weakly coupled three-component superconductor

Based on the phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau approach, we investigate phase solitonic states in a class of three-component superconductors for mesoscopic doubly-connected geometry (thin-walled cylinder) in external magnetic fields. Analysis of the Gibbs free energy of the system shows that solitonic states in a three-component superconductor are thermodynamically metastable and separated from the ground state by a sizable energy. Our results demonstrate that despite of the presence of the zoo of phase solitons states earlier proposed method [Phys. Rev. B 96, 144513 (2017)] for the detection of BTRS in multiband superconductors remains valid and useful.

Concise guide for electronic topological transitions

In this short review we pass through the milestones in the studies of the electronic topological transitions (ETT) and focus on some recent applications of the ideas worked out in their classical theory. These are: two-dimensional electron systems, de Haas-van Alphen effect, classification of ETT in multidimensional systems, superconductivity in systems close to ETT, thermoelectricity in heavy-fermion systems, where the cascades of topological changes of Fermi surface (FS) are generated by magnetic field. The history of studies of ETT is inextricably linked with Kharkov school of condensed matter physics, with such names as I.M. Lifshitz, V.G.Bar'yakhtar and many other. Among them is Moisey Isaakovich Kaganov, who contributed much in studies of the role of geometry and topology of FS in physical properties of the metals. Two of the authors (A.V. and Y.G.) had a honor and pleasure to work with "Musik", as all friends called Kaganov; all of us have been learning the niceties of science from his books. "The Fermi surface is the stage on which the drama of the life of the electron is played out" wrote Kaganov and Lifshitz. We devote this work to their memory.

Mechanism of screening or enhancing the pseudogap throughout the two-band Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer to Bose-Einstein condensate crossover

We demonstrate the rise-and-fall of multiple pseudogaps in the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer-Bose-Einstein-condensation (BCS-BEC) crossover in two-band fermionic systems having different pairing strengths in the deep band and in the shallow band. The striking features of this phenomenon are an unusual many-body screening of pseudogap state and the importance of pair-exchange couplings, which induces multiple pseudogap formation in the two bands. The multi-band configuration suppresses pairing fluctuations and the pseudogap opening in the strongly-interacting shallow band at small pair-exchange couplings by screening effects, with possible connection to the pseudogap phenomenology in iron based superconductors. On the other hand, the multiple pseudogap mechanism accompanies with the emergence of binary preformed Cooper pairs originating from interplay between intra-band and pair-exchange couplings.

Coexistence of giant Cooper pairs with a bosonic condensate and anomalous behavior of energy gaps in the BCS-BEC crossover of a two-band superfluid Fermi gas

We investigate Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS)- Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) crossover in a two-band superfluid Fermi gas with an energy shift between the bands. When the intraband coupling in the cold (first) band is fixed as weak, we find that in the case of vanishing interband interaction and in the strong-coupling limit of the hot (second) band the system undergoes a transition to a single-component configuration with the full suppression of the first energy gap and with the full redistribution of particles between bands. For non-vanishing interband interaction we reveal the non-monotonic dependence of the energy gap in the first band vs intraband coupling in the second band with the presence of a hump. In the case of weak interband coupling the system shows a significant amplification of the intrapair correlation length of the condensate in the first band in the strong-coupling regime of the second band, which clearly indicates the coexistence of giant Cooper pairs and a bosonic condensate even for nonzero temperatures. This can lead to a non-monotonic temperature dependence of the second energy gap with a peak. Here predicted coexistence of the giant Cooper pairs and bosonic molecules can be verified by means of the visualization of vortex cores in the two-component atomic condensates as well as in some iron-based superconductors.

Enhanced critical temperature, pairing fluctuation effects, and BCS-BEC crossover in a two-band Fermi gas

We study the superfluid critical temperature in a two-band attractive Fermi system with strong pairing fluctuations associated with both interband and intraband couplings. We focus specifically on a configuration where the intraband coupling is varied from weak to strong in a shallow band coupled to a weakly-interacting deeper band. The whole crossover from the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) condensation of largely overlapping Cooper pairs to the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of tightly bound molecules is covered by our analysis, which is based on the extension of the Nozières-Schmitt-Rink (NSR) approach to a two-band system. In comparison with the single-band case, we find a strong enhancement of the critical temperature, a significant reduction of the preformed pair region where pseudogap effects are expected, and the entanglement of two kinds of composite bosons in the strong-coupling BEC regime.
