Visualization of curvature on curve and surface by tangential angle parametrization

We propose a unified method to visualize curvature on planar curves and surfaces of revolution using the tangential angle parameter. For plane curves, placing markers at equal increments of the tangential angle reveals local bending features and naturally highlights inflection points and vertices. This approach extends to surfaces of revolution, where curvature lines drawn at equal tangential angle steps reflect principal curvature variations and naturally expose ridge and parabolic curves. Our method provides clear, consistent visualizations without arbitrary parameter tuning, offering geometric insight for both analysis and design applications.

Monodromy of Darboux transformations of polarised curves

We show that every finite type polarised curve in the conformal $2$-sphere with a polynomial conserved quantity admits a resonance point, under a non-orthogonality assumption on the conserved quantity. Using this fact, we deduce that every finite type curve polarised by space form arc-length in the conformal $2$-sphere admits a resonance point, possibly on a multiple cover.

Discrete constant mean curvature cylinders and isothermic tori

We consider the monodromy problem of Darboux transforms of discrete isothermic surfaces using the integrable theory of discrete polarised curves. Then we provide, for the first time, closed-form discrete parametrisations of discrete isothermic cylinders, discrete constant mean curvature cylinders, and discrete isothermic tori.

Periodic discrete Darboux transforms

We express Darboux transformations of discrete polarised curves as parallel sections of discrete connections in the quaternionic formalism. This immediately leads to the linearisation of the monodromy of the transformation. We also consider the integrable reduction to the case of discrete bicycle correspondence. Applying our method to the case of discrete circles, we obtain closed-form discrete parametrisations of all (closed) Darboux transforms and (closed) bicycle correspondences.

A novel symmetry in nanocarbons: pre-constant discrete principal curvature structure

Since the first-principles calculations in quantum chemistry precisely provide possible configurations of carbon atoms in nanocarbons, we have analyzed the geometrical structure of the possible carbon configurations and found that there exists a novel symmetry in the nanocarbons, i.e., the pre-constant discrete principal curvature (pCDPC) structure. In terms of the discrete principal curvature based on the discrete geometry for trivalent oriented graphs developed by Kotani, Naito, and Omori (Comput. Aided Geom. Design, $\bf{58}$, (2017), 24-54), we numerically investigated discrete principal curvature distribution of the nanocarbons, C$_{60}$, carbon nanotubes, C$_{120}$ (C$_{60}$ dimer), and C$_{60}$-polymers (peanut-shaped fullerene polymers). While the C$_{60}$ and nanotubes have the constant discrete principal curvature (CDPC) as we expected, it is interesting to note that the C$_{60}$-polymers and C$_{60}$ dimer also have the almost constant discrete principal curvature, i.e., pCDPC, which is surprising. A nontrivial pCDPC structure with revolutionary symmetry is available due to discreteness, though it has been overlooked in geometry. In discrete geometry, there appears a center axisoid which is the discrete analogue of the center axis in the continuum differential geometry but has three-dimensional structure rather than a one-dimensional curve due to its discrete nature. We demonstrated that such pCDPC structure exists in nature, namely in the C$_{60}$-polymers. Furthermore, since we found that there is a positive correlation between the degree of the CDPC structure and stability of the configurations for certain class of the C$_{60}$-polymers, we also revealed the origin of the pCDPC structure from an aspect of materials science.

New explicit CMC cylinders and same-lobed CMC multibubbletons

We provide explicit parametrisations of all Darboux transforms of Delaunay surfaces. Using the Darboux transformation on a multiple cover, we obtain this way new closed CMC surfaces with dihedral symmetry. These can be used to construct closed same-lobed CMC multibubbletons by applying Bianchi permutability.

Generalised Bianchi permutability for isothermic surfaces

Isothermic surfaces are surfaces which allow a conformal curvature line parametrisation. They form an integrable system, and Darboux transforms of isothermic surfaces obey Bianchi permutability: for two distinct spectral parameters the corresponding Darboux transforms have a common Darboux transform which can be computed algebraically. In this paper, we discuss two-step Darboux transforms with the same spectral parameter and show that these are obtained by a Sym-type construction: All two-step Darboux transforms of an isothermic surface are given, without further integration, by parallel sections of the associated family of the isothermic surface, either algebraically or by differentiation against the spectral parameter.

Analysis of timelike Thomsen surfaces - with deformations and singularities

Timelike Thomsen surfaces are timelike minimal surfaces that are also affine minimal. In this paper, we make use of both the Lorentz conformal coordinates and the null coordinates, and their respective representation theorems of timelike minimal surfaces, to obtain a complete global classification of these surfaces and to characterize them using a geometric invariant called lightlike curvatures. As a result, we reveal the relationship between timelike Thomsen surfaces, and timelike minimal surfaces with planar curvature lines. As an application, we give a deformation of null curves preserving the pseudo-arclength parametrization and the constancy of the lightlike curvatures.

Deformation and singularities of maximal surfaces with planar curvature lines

Minimal surfaces with planar curvature lines in the Euclidean space have been studied since the late 19th century. On the other hand, the classification of maximal surfaces with planar curvature lines in the Lorentz-Minkowski space has only recently been given. In this paper, we use an alternative method not only to refine the classification of maximal surfaces with planar curvature lines, but also to show that there exists a deformation consisting exactly of all such surfaces. Furthermore, we investigate the types of singularities that occur on maximal surfaces with planar curvature lines. Finally, by considering the conjugate of maximal surfaces with planar curvature lines, we obtain analogous results for maximal surfaces that are also affine minimal surfaces.

Deformation of minimal surfaces with planar curvature lines

Minimal surfaces with planar curvature lines are classical geometric objects, having been studied since the late 19th century. In this paper, we revisit the subject from a different point of view. After calculating their metric functions using an analytical method, we recover the Weierstrass data, and give clean parametrizations for these surfaces. Then, using these parametrizations, we show that there exists a single continuous deformation between all minimal surfaces with planar curvature lines. In the process, we establish the existence of axial directions for these surfaces.
