Weakly supervised anomaly detection with event-level variables

We introduce a new topology for weakly supervised anomaly detection searches, di-object plus~X. In this topology, one looks for a resonance decaying to two standard model particles produced in association with other anomalous event activity (X). This additional activity is used for classification. We demonstrate how anomaly detection techniques which have been developed for di-jet searches focusing on jet substructure anomalies can be applied to event-level anomaly detection in this topology. To robustly capture event-level features of multi-particle kinematics, we employ new physically motivated variables derived from the geometric structure of a collision's phase space manifold. As a proof of concept, we explore the application of this approach to several benchmark signals in the di-$τ$ and di-$μ$ plus~X final states. We demonstrate that our anomaly detection approach can reach discovery-level significances for signals that would be missed in a conventional bump-hunt approach.

Torsors in super-symmetry

Torsors under affine groups are generalized in the super context by super-torsors under affine super-groups. We investigate those super-torsors by using Hopf-algebra language and techniques. It is explicitly shown, under suitable assumptions, that every super-torsor arises from an ordinary torsor. Especially, the objects with affinity restriction, or namely, the affine super-torsors and the affine ordinary torsors are shown to be precisely in one-to-one correspondence. The results play substantial roles in ongoing construction of super-symmetric Picard-Vessiot theory.

Quotients in super-symmetry: formal supergroup case

We describe the structure of the quotient $\mathfrak{G}/\mathfrak{H}$ of a formal supergroup $\mathfrak{G}$ by its formal sub-supergroup $\mathfrak{H}$. This is a consequence which arises as a continuation of the authors' work (partly with M. Hashi) on algebraic/analytic supergoups. The results are presented and proved in terms of super-cocommutative Hopf superalgebras. The notion of co-free super-coalgebras plays a role, in particular.

Fano $4$-folds with nef tangent bundle in positive characteristic

In characteristic $0$, the Campana-Peternell conjecture claims that the only smooth Fano variety with nef tangent bundle should be homogeneous. In this paper, we study the positive characteristic version of the Campana-Peternell conjecture. In particular, we give an affirmative answer for Fano $4$-folds with nef tangent bundle and Picard number greater than one.

Harmony in the Light of Computational Ludics

Prawitz formulated the so-called inversion principle as one of the characteristic features of Gentzen's intuitionistic natural deduction. In the literature on proof-theoretic semantics, this principle is often coupled with another that is called the recovery principle. By adopting the Computational Ludics framework, we reformulate these principles into one and the same condition, which we call the harmony condition. We show that this reformulation allows us to reveal two intuitive ideas standing behind these principles: the idea of "containment" present in the inversion principle, and the idea that the recovery principle is the "converse" of the inversion principle. We also formulate two other conditions in the Computational Ludics framework, and we show that each of them is equivalent to the harmony condition.

Generative Damage Learning for Concrete Aging Detection using Auto-flight Images

In order to monitor the state of large-scale infrastructures, image acquisition by autonomous flight drones is efficient for stable angle and high-quality images. Supervised learning requires a large data set consisting of images and annotation labels. It takes a long time to accumulate images, including identifying the damaged regions of interest (ROIs). In recent years, unsupervised deep learning approaches such as generative adversarial networks (GANs) for anomaly detection algorithms have progressed. When a damaged image is a generator input, it tends to reverse from the damaged state to the healthy state generated image. Using the distance of distribution between the real damaged image and the generated reverse aging healthy state fake image, it is possible to detect the concrete damage automatically from unsupervised learning. This paper proposes an anomaly detection method using unpaired image-to-image translation mapping from damaged images to reverse aging fakes that approximates healthy conditions. We apply our method to field studies, and we examine the usefulness of our method for health monitoring of concrete damage.

Hopf-algebraic techniques applied to super Lie groups over a complete field

We show basic results on super-manifolds and super Lie groups over a complete field of characteristic $\ne 2$, extensively using Hopf-algebraic techniques. The main results are two theorems. The first main theorem shows a category equivalence between super Lie groups and Harish-Chandra pairs, which is applied especially to construct the Hopf super-algebra of all analytic representative functions on a super Lie group. The second constructs homogeneous super-manifolds by a new Hopf-algebraic method, showing their remarkable property.

Geometric construction of quotients $G/H$ in supersymmetry

It was proved by the first-named author and Zubkov [13] that given an affine algebraic supergroup $\mathbb{G}$ and a closed sub-supergroup $\mathbb{H}$ over an arbitrary field of characteristic $\ne 2$, the faisceau $\mathbb{G} \tilde{/} \mathbb{H}$ (in the fppf topology) is a superscheme, and is, therefore, the quotient superscheme $\mathbb{G}/\mathbb{H}$, which has desirable properties, in fact. We reprove this, by constructing directly the latter superscheme $\mathbb{G}/\mathbb{H}$. Our proof describes explicitly the structure sheaf of $\mathbb{G}/\mathbb{H}$, and reveals some new geometric features of the quotient, that include one which was desired by Brundan [2], and is shown in general, here for the first time.

Jet Substructure at the Large Hadron Collider: Experimental Review

Jet substructure has emerged to play a central role at the Large Hadron Collider, where it has provided numerous innovative ways to search for new physics and to probe the Standard Model, particularly in extreme regions of phase space. In this article we focus on a review of the development and use of state-of-the-art jet substructure techniques by the ATLAS and CMS experiments.

On Quasi Ordinal Diagram Systems

The purposes of this note are the following two; we first generalize Okada-Takeuti's well quasi ordinal diagram theory, utilizing the recent result of Dershowitz-Tzameret's version of tree embedding theorem with gap conditions. Second, we discuss possible use of such strong ordinal notation systems for the purpose of a typical traditional termination proof method for term rewriting systems, especially for second-order (pattern-matching-based) rewriting systems including a rewrite-theoretic version of Buchholz's hydra game.

Weyl points of mechanical diamond

A spring-mass model arranged in a diamond structure --- mechanical diamond --- is analyzed in terms of topology in detail. We find that, additional springs connecting the next-nearest-neighbor pairs of mass points and the modulation of the mass parameters to the pristine mechanical diamond generates multiple pairs of Weyl points in the frequency dispersion. Evolution of the Weyl point positions in the Brillouin zone against the uniform outward tension is tracked and explained by the point group symmetry, especially tetrahedral symmetry of the NNN springs. Interestingly, there happens a rapid transmutation of the monopole charges of the Weyl points as the tension varies. We also show surface Fermi arcs in the case with anisotropy in the NNN springs.

Leptoquark searches in CMS

Leptoquarks (LQs) are hypothetical bosons, each coupling to a lepton and a quark of a given generation. They recently got particular attention, as the "TeV-scale LQ" might explain observed anomalies reported by dedicated B physics experiments. In these proceedings, the recent progress of the direct searches on LQs at CMS experiment is presented. The results are based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, recorded with the CMS detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1.

Edge states of mechanical diamond and its topological origin

A mechanical diamond, a classical mechanics of a spring-mass model arrayed on a diamond lattice, is discussed topologically. Its frequency dispersion possesses an intrinsic nodal structure in the three-dimensional Brillouin zone (BZ) protected by the chiral symmetry. Topological changes of the line nodes are demonstrated associated with modification of the tension. The line nodes projected into two-dimensional BZ form loops which are characterized by the quantized Zak phases by 0 and $π$. With boundaries, edge states are discussed in relation to the Zak phases and winding numbers. It establishes a bulk-edge correspondence of the mechanical diamond.

Oscillatory matrix model in Chern-Simons theory and Jacobi-theta determinantal point process

The partition function of the Chern-Simons theory on the three-sphere with the unitary group $U(N)$ provides a one-matrix model. The corresponding $N$-particle system can be mapped to the determinantal point process whose correlation kernel is expressed by using the Stieltjes-Wigert orthogonal polynomials. The matrix model and the point process are regarded as $q$-extensions of the random matrix model in the Gaussian unitary ensemble and its eigenvalue point process, respectively. We prove the convergence of the $N$-particle system to an infinite-dimensional determinantal point process in $N \to \infty$, in which the correlation kernel is expressed by Jacobi's theta functions. We show that the matrix model obtained by this limit realizes the oscillatory matrix model in Chern-Simons theory discussed by de Haro and Tierz.

Noncolliding Brownian Motion with Drift and Time-Dependent Stieltjes-Wigert Determinantal Point Process

Using the determinantal formula of Biane, Bougerol, and O'Connell, we give multitime joint probability densities to the noncolliding Brownian motion with drift, where the number of particles is finite. We study a special case such that the initial positions of particles are equidistant with a period $a$ and the values of drift coefficients are well-ordered with a scale $σ$. We show that, at each time $t >0$, the single-time probability density of particle system is exactly transformed to the biorthogonal Stieltjes-Wigert matrix model in the Chern-Simons theory introduced by Dolivet and Tierz. Here one-parameter extensions ($θ$-extensions) of the Stieltjes-Wigert polynomials, which are themselves $q$-extensions of the Hermite polynomials, play an essential role. The two parameters $a$ and $σ$ of the process combined with time $t$ are mapped to the parameters $q$ and $θ$ of the biorthogonal polynomials. By the transformation of normalization factor of our probability density, the partition function of the Chern-Simons matrix model is readily obtained. We study the determinantal structure of the matrix model and prove that, at each time $t >0$, the present noncolliding Brownian motion with drift is a determinantal point process, in the sense that any correlation function is given by a determinant governed by a single integral kernel called the correlation kernel. Using the obtained correlation kernel, we study time evolution of the noncolliding Brownian motion with drift.
