LacAIDes: Generative AI-Supported Creative Interactive Circuits Crafting to Enliven Traditional Lacquerware

Lacquerware, a representative craft of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, is renowned for its layered aesthetics and durability but faces declining engagement. While prior human-computer interaction research has explored embedding interactive circuits to transform lacquerware into responsive artifacts, most studies have focused on fabrication techniques rather than supporting makers in creatively designing such interactions at a low threshold. To address this gap, we present LacAIDes, a Generative AI powered creativity-support tool built on a multi-agent workflow aligned with the double diamond model of design thinking. LacAIDes enables exploration and creation of culturally grounded interactive circuits without requiring prior technical expertise. We evaluated LacAIDes in a longitudinal workshop with 34 participants using a mixed-method approach. Results show that LacAIDes demonstrated high usability, enhanced creative engagement in craft making, and encouraged critical reflection on the role of Generative AI in digital craft practices. This work contributes to human-computer interaction by introducing a novel creativity-support tool and providing empirical insights into revitalizing traditional craft making through Generative AI.

Towards Effective Model Editing for LLM Personalization

Personalization is becoming indispensable for LLMs to align with individual user preferences and needs. Yet current approaches are often computationally expensive, data-intensive, susceptible to catastrophic forgetting, and prone to performance degradation in multi-turn interactions or when handling implicit queries. To address these challenges, we conceptualize personalization as a model editing task and introduce Personalization Editing, a framework that applies localized edits guided by clustered preference representations. This design enables precise preference-aligned updates while preserving overall model capabilities. In addition, existing personalization benchmarks frequently rely on persona-based dialogs between LLMs rather than user-LLM interactions, or focus primarily on stylistic imitation while neglecting information-seeking tasks that require accurate recall of user-specific preferences. We introduce User Preference Question Answering (UPQA), a short-answer QA dataset constructed from in-situ user queries with varying levels of difficulty. Unlike prior benchmarks, UPQA directly evaluates a model's ability to recall and apply specific user preferences. Across experimental settings, Personalization Editing achieves higher editing accuracy and greater computational efficiency than fine-tuning, while outperforming prompting-based baselines in multi-turn conversations and implicit preference questions settings.

Nonholonomic Narrow Dead-End Escape with Deep Reinforcement Learning

Nonholonomic constraints restrict feasible velocities without reducing configuration-space dimension, which makes collision-free geometric paths generally non-executable for car-like robots. Ackermann steering further imposes curvature bounds and forbids in-place rotation, so escaping from narrow dead ends typically requires tightly sequenced forward and reverse maneuvers. Classical planners that decouple global search and local steering struggle in these settings because narrow passages occupy low-measure regions and nonholonomic reachability shrinks the set of valid connections, which degrades sampling efficiency and increases sensitivity to clearances. We study nonholonomic narrow dead-end escape for Ackermann vehicles and contribute three components. First, we construct a generator that samples multi-phase forward-reverse trajectories compatible with Ackermann kinematics and inflates their envelopes to synthesize families of narrow dead ends that are guaranteed to admit at least one feasible escape. Second, we construct a training environment that enforces kinematic constraints and train a policy using the soft actor-critic algorithm. Third, we evaluate against representative classical planners that combine global search with nonholonomic steering. Across parameterized dead-end families, the learned policy solves a larger fraction of instances, reduces maneuver count, and maintains comparable path length and planning time while under the same sensing and control limits. Joint Frequency-Space Sparse Reconstruction for DOA Estimation under Coherent Sources and Amplitude-Phase Errors

In this letter, we propose a joint frequency-space sparse reconstruction method for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation, which effectively addresses the issues arising from the existence of coherent sources and array amplitude-phase errors. Specifically, by using an auxiliary source with known angles, we first construct the real steering vectors (RSVs) based on the spectral peaks of received signals in the frequency domain, which serve as a complete basis matrix for compensation for amplitude-phase errors. Then, we leverage the spectral sparsity of snapshot data in the frequency domain and the spatial sparsity of incident directions to perform the DOA estimation according to the sparse reconstruction method. The proposed method does not require iterative optimization, hence exhibiting low computational complexity. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed DOA estimation method achieves higher estimation accuracy for coherent sources as compared to various benchmark schemes.

Curtain Model for CAT(0) Spaces and Isometries

This paper studies the dynamics of isometries in the curtain model, which is used to capture the hyperbolicity in a fixed CAT(0) space. We establish several fundamental properties, fully classify the behavior of semisimple isometries of a CAT(0) space in the associated curtain model, and prove that an isometry is contracting in a CAT(0) space if and only if it becomes loxodromic in the curtain model. Additionally, we exclude the presence of parabolic actions in most cases of interest, allowing the use of ping-pong like techniques on the curtain model to provide insights into the study of CAT(0) groups.

SSPFusion: A Semantic Structure-Preserving Approach for Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

Most existing learning-based multi-modality image fusion (MMIF) methods suffer from significant structure inconsistency due to their inappropriate usage of structural features at the semantic level. To alleviate these issues, we propose a semantic structure-preserving fusion approach for MMIF, namely SSPFusion. At first, we design a structural feature extractor (SFE) to extract the prominent structural features from multiple input images. Concurrently, we introduce a transformation function with Sobel operator to generate self-supervised structural signals in these extracted features. Subsequently, we design a multi-scale structure-preserving fusion (SPF) module, guided by the generated structural signals, to merge the structural features of input images. This process ensures the preservation of semantic structure consistency between the resultant fusion image and the input images. Through the synergy of these two robust modules of SFE and SPF, our method can generate high-quality fusion images and demonstrate good generalization ability. Experimental results, on both infrared-visible image fusion and medical image fusion tasks, demonstrate that our method outperforms nine state-of-the-art methods in terms of both qualitative and quantitative evaluations. Towards Revealing the Effectiveness of Small-Scale Fine-tuning in R1-style Reinforcement Learning

R1-style Reinforcement Learning (RL) significantly enhances Large Language Models' reasoning capabilities, yet the mechanism behind rule-based RL remains unclear. We found that small-scale SFT has substantial influence on RL but shows poor efficiency. To explain our observations, we propose an analytical framework and compare the efficiency of SFT and RL by measuring \textbf{sample effect}. Our hypothetical analysis shows the potential to improve SFT efficiency. Guided by our analysis, we propose \textbf{Re-distillation}, a technique that aims to boost the effectiveness of small-scale distillation by sampling from the RL-trained policy. Re-distillation shows consistent surprising efficiency on three datasets and both Qwen\&Llama models: Re-distilled models matched RL performance with far fewer samples and less computation. As a result, on K\&K dataset, our re-distilled Qwen-2.5-1.5B model surpasses DeepSeek-V3-0324 with only 1K SFT samples. We demonstrate that re-distillation can be used to efficiently balance multiple goals in RL. Our work explains several interesting phenomena in R1-style RL, shedding light on the mechanisms behind its empirical success. Code is available at: https://github.com/on1262/deep-reasoning.

EgoM2P: Egocentric Multimodal Multitask Pretraining

Understanding multimodal signals in egocentric vision, such as RGB video, depth, camera poses, and gaze, is essential for applications in augmented reality, robotics, and human-computer interaction, enabling systems to better interpret the camera wearer's actions, intentions, and surrounding environment. However, building large-scale egocentric multimodal and multitask models presents unique challenges. Egocentric data are inherently heterogeneous, with large variations in modality coverage across devices and settings. Generating pseudo-labels for missing modalities, such as gaze or head-mounted camera trajectories, is often infeasible, making standard supervised learning approaches difficult to scale. Furthermore, dynamic camera motion and the complex temporal and spatial structure of first-person video pose additional challenges for the direct application of existing multimodal foundation models. To address these challenges, we introduce a set of efficient temporal tokenizers and propose EgoM2P, a masked modeling framework that learns from temporally-aware multimodal tokens to train a large, general-purpose model for egocentric 4D understanding. This unified design supports multitasking across diverse egocentric perception and synthesis tasks, including gaze prediction, egocentric camera tracking, and monocular depth estimation from egocentric video, and also serves as a generative model for conditional egocentric video synthesis. Across these tasks, EgoM2P matches or outperforms specialist models while being an order of magnitude faster. We will fully open-source EgoM2P to support the community and advance egocentric vision research. Project page: https://egom2p.github.io/.

Observation of Electride-like $s$ States Coexisting with Correlated $d$ Electrons in NdNiO$_2$

Despite exhibiting a similar $d_{x^2-y^2}$ band character to cuprates, infinite-layer nickelates host additional electron pockets that distinguish them from single-band cuprates. The elusive orbital origin of these electron pockets has led to competing theoretical scenarios. Here, using polarization-dependent and resonant angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), we determine the orbital character of the Fermi surfaces in NdNiO$_2$. Our data reveal that the electron-like pocket arises predominantly from interstitial $s$ states, with negligible contributions from rare-earth 5$d$ and 4$f$ orbitals near the Fermi level. The observation of well-defined quantum well states indicates a uniform distribution of these interstitial electrons throughout the film thickness. By comparing with electronic structure of LaNiO$_2$, we find that the rare-earth element modulates the Ni-derived bands and hopping integrals through a chemical pressure effect. These findings clarify the role of rare-earth elements in shaping the low-energy electronic structure and establish the presence of electride-like interstitial $s$ states in a correlated oxide system, where electrons occupy lattice voids rather than atomic orbitals. The electride-like character offer new insight into the self-doping and superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates.

High Temperature Superconductivity Dominated by Inner Underdoped CuO$_2$ Planes in Quadruple-Layer Cuprate (Cu,C)Ba$_2$Ca$_3$Cu$_4$O$_{11+δ}$

The superconducting transition temperature ($T_{\mathrm{c}}$) of trilayer or quadruple-layer cuprates typically surpasses that of single-layer or bilayer systems. This observation is often interpreted within the ``composite picture", where strong proximity effect between inner CuO$_2$ planes (IPs) and outer CuO$_2$ planes (OPs) is crucial. Albeit intriguing, a straightforward scrutinization of this composite picture is still lacking. In this study, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to investigate (Cu,C)Ba$_2$Ca$_3$Cu$_4$O$_{11+δ}$ (CuC-1234) with a high $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ of 110~K, we found that the OPs are not superconducting at the $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ of the material. Instead, the large pairing strength and phase coherence concurrently emerge at the underdoped IPs, suggesting that the high $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ is primarily driven by these underdoped IPs. Given that the $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ of CuC-1234 is comparable to other trilayer or quadruple-layer cuprates, our findings suggest that the conventional ``composite picture" is not universally required for achieving high $T_{\mathrm{c}}$. More importantly, we demonstrate that CuO$_2$ planes free of apical oxygen can support superconductivity up to 110~K even at a doping level of 0.07 holes per Cu, a level that lies deep in the underdoped regime of single- and bilayer cuprates. These findings provide new insights into the origin of high $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ in multilayer cuprates.

MoralBench: Moral Evaluation of LLMs

In the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs) have emerged as powerful tools for a myriad of applications, from natural language processing to decision-making support systems. However, as these models become increasingly integrated into societal frameworks, the imperative to ensure they operate within ethical and moral boundaries has never been more critical. This paper introduces a novel benchmark designed to measure and compare the moral reasoning capabilities of LLMs. We present the first comprehensive dataset specifically curated to probe the moral dimensions of LLM outputs, addressing a wide range of ethical dilemmas and scenarios reflective of real-world complexities. The main contribution of this work lies in the development of benchmark datasets and metrics for assessing the moral identity of LLMs, which accounts for nuance, contextual sensitivity, and alignment with human ethical standards. Our methodology involves a multi-faceted approach, combining quantitative analysis with qualitative insights from ethics scholars to ensure a thorough evaluation of model performance. By applying our benchmark across several leading LLMs, we uncover significant variations in moral reasoning capabilities of different models. These findings highlight the importance of considering moral reasoning in the development and evaluation of LLMs, as well as the need for ongoing research to address the biases and limitations uncovered in our study. Fisher information approximation of random orthogonal matrices by Gaussian matrices

Let $Γ_n$ be an $n\times n$ Haar-invariant orthogonal matrix. Let ${ Z}_n$ be the $p\times q$ upper-left submatrix of $Γ_n$ and ${G}_n$ be a $p\times q$ matrix whose $pq$ entries are independent standard normals, where $p$ and $q$ are two positive integers. Let $\mathcal{L}(\sqrt{n} {Z}_n)$ and $\mathcal{L}({G}_n)$ be their joint distribution, respectively. Consider the Fisher information $I(\mathcal{L}(\sqrt{n} { Z}_n)|\mathcal{L}(G_n))$ between the distributions of $\sqrt{n} {Z}_n$ and ${ G}_n.$ In this paper, we conclude that $$I(\mathcal{L}(\sqrt{n} {Z}_n)|\mathcal{L}(G_n))\longrightarrow 0 $$ as $n\to\infty$ if $pq=o(n)$ and it does not tend to zero if $c=\lim\limits_{n\to\infty}\frac{pq}{n}\in(0, +\infty).$ Precisely, we obtain that $$I(\mathcal{L}(\sqrt{n} {Z}_n)|\mathcal{L}(G_n))=\frac{p^2q(q+1)}{4n^2}(1+o(1))$$ when $p=o(n).$

SplatFormer: Point Transformer for Robust 3D Gaussian Splatting

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has recently transformed photorealistic reconstruction, achieving high visual fidelity and real-time performance. However, rendering quality significantly deteriorates when test views deviate from the camera angles used during training, posing a major challenge for applications in immersive free-viewpoint rendering and navigation. In this work, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of 3DGS and related novel view synthesis methods under out-of-distribution (OOD) test camera scenarios. By creating diverse test cases with synthetic and real-world datasets, we demonstrate that most existing methods, including those incorporating various regularization techniques and data-driven priors, struggle to generalize effectively to OOD views. To address this limitation, we introduce SplatFormer, the first point transformer model specifically designed to operate on Gaussian splats. SplatFormer takes as input an initial 3DGS set optimized under limited training views and refines it in a single forward pass, effectively removing potential artifacts in OOD test views. To our knowledge, this is the first successful application of point transformers directly on 3DGS sets, surpassing the limitations of previous multi-scene training methods, which could handle only a restricted number of input views during inference. Our model significantly improves rendering quality under extreme novel views, achieving state-of-the-art performance in these challenging scenarios and outperforming various 3DGS regularization techniques, multi-scene models tailored for sparse view synthesis, and diffusion-based frameworks.

Network Slice-based Low-Altitude Intelligent Network for Advanced Air Mobility

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is transforming transportation systems by extending them into near-ground airspace, offering innovative solutions to mobility challenges. In this space, electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs) perform a variety of tasks to improve aviation safety and efficiency, such as collaborative computing and perception. However, eVTOLs face constraints such as compacted shape and restricted onboard computing resources. These limitations necessitate task offloading to nearby high-performance base stations (BSs) for timely processing. Unfortunately, the high mobility of eVTOLs, coupled with their restricted flight airlines and heterogeneous resource management creates significant challenges in dynamic task offloading. To address these issues, this paper introduces a novel network slice-based Low-Altitude Intelligent Network (LAIN) framework for eVTOL tasks. By leveraging advanced network slicing technologies from 5G/6G, the proposed framework dynamically adjusts communication bandwidth, beam alignment, and computing resources to meet fluctuating task demands. Specifically, the framework includes an access pairing method to pre-schedule optimal eVTOL-BS-slice assignments, a pre-assessment algorithm to avoid resource waste, and a deep reinforcement learning-based slice orchestration mechanism to optimize resource allocation and lifecycle management. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed framework outperforms existing benchmarks in terms of resource allocation efficiency and operational/violation costs across varying eVTOL velocities. This work provides valuable insights into intelligent network slicing for future AAM transportation systems.

Spin Representations of Finite Coxeter Groups and Generalisations of Saxl's Conjecture

This paper presents a natural generalisation of Saxl conjecture from a Lie-theoretical perspective, which is verified for the exceptional types. For classical types, progress is made using spin representations, revealing connections to certain tensor product decomposition problems in symmetric groups. We provide an alternative uniform description of the cuspidal family (in the sense of Lusztig) through spin representations, offering an equivalent conjecture formulation. Additionally, we generalise Saxl conjecture to finite Coxeter groups and prove it for the non-crystallographic cases.

X-ray hardening preceding the onset of SGR 1935+2154's radio pulsar phase

Magnetars are neutron stars with extremely strong magnetic fields, frequently powering high-energy activity in X-rays. Pulsed radio emission following some X-ray outbursts have been detected (\citealt{Camilo2006,camilo2007a}), albeit its physical origin is unclear. It has long been speculated that the origin of magnetars' radio signals is different from those from canonical pulsars, although convincing evidence is still lacking. Five months after magnetar SGR 1935+2154's X-ray outburst and its associated Fast Radio Burst (FRB) 20200428, a radio pulsar phase was discovered. Here we report the discovery of X-ray spectral hardening associated with the emergence of periodic radio pulsations from SGR 1935+2154 and a detailed analysis of the properties of the radio pulses. The observations suggest that radio emission originates from the outer magnetosphere of the magnetar, and the surface heating due to the bombardment of inward-going particles from the radio emission region is responsible for the observed X-ray spectral hardening.
