Shared and Private Information Learning in Multimodal Sentiment Analysis with Deep Modal Alignment and Self-supervised Multi-Task Learning

Designing an effective representation learning method for multimodal sentiment analysis tasks is a crucial research direction. The challenge lies in learning both shared and private information in a complete modal representation, which is difficult with uniform multimodal labels and a raw feature fusion approach. In this work, we propose a deep modal shared information learning module based on the covariance matrix to capture the shared information between modalities. Additionally, we use a label generation module based on a self-supervised learning strategy to capture the private information of the modalities. Our module is plug-and-play in multimodal tasks, and by changing the parameterization, it can adjust the information exchange relationship between the modes and learn the private or shared information between the specified modes. We also employ a multi-task learning strategy to help the model focus its attention on the modal differentiation training data. We provide a detailed formulation derivation and feasibility proof for the design of the deep modal shared information learning module. We conduct extensive experiments on three common multimodal sentiment analysis baseline datasets, and the experimental results validate the reliability of our model. Furthermore, we explore more combinatorial techniques for the use of the module. Our approach outperforms current state-of-the-art methods on most of the metrics of the three public datasets.

Diffusion-based Light Field Synthesis

Light fields (LFs), conducive to comprehensive scene radiance recorded across angular dimensions, find wide applications in 3D reconstruction, virtual reality, and computational photography. However, the LF acquisition is inevitably time-consuming and resource-intensive due to the mainstream acquisition strategy involving manual capture or laborious software synthesis.Given such a challenge, we introduce LFdiff, a straightforward yet effective diffusion-based generative framework tailored for LF synthesis, which adopts only a single RGB image as input.LFdiff leverages disparity estimated by a monocular depth estimation network and incorporates two distinctive components: a novel condition scheme and a noise estimation network tailored for LF data.Specifically, we design a position-aware warping condition scheme, enhancing inter-view geometry learning via a robust conditional signal. We then propose DistgUnet, a disentanglement-based noise estimation network, to harness comprehensive LF representations.Extensive experiments demonstrate that LFdiff excels in synthesizing visually pleasing and disparity-controllable light fields with enhanced generalization capability.Additionally, comprehensive results affirm the broad applicability of the generated LF data, spanning applications like LF super-resolution and refocusing.

Aerodynamic Characterization of a Fan Array Wind Generator

Experimental assessment of safe and precise flight control algorithms for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) under gusty wind conditions requires the capability to generate a large range of velocity profiles. In this study, we employ a small fan array wind generator which can generate flows with large spatial and temporal variability. We perform a thorough aerodynamic characterization operating the fans uniformly from a low to the maximum level. PIV and hot-wire measurements indicate a jet-like flow with nearly uniform core which monotonously contracts in streamwise direction and surrounding growing unsteady shear-layers. These complex dynamics results in a limited region with desired flow profile and turbulence level. The experimental results shed light on the flow generated by a full-scale fan array wind generator, and indicate the need for further improvements via properly designed add-ons and dedicated control algorithms.

Toward Real-World Light Field Super-Resolution

Deep learning has opened up new possibilities for light field super-resolution (SR), but existing methods trained on synthetic datasets with simple degradations (e.g., bicubic downsampling) suffer from poor performance when applied to complex real-world scenarios. To address this problem, we introduce LytroZoom, the first real-world light field SR dataset capturing paired low- and high-resolution light fields of diverse indoor and outdoor scenes using a Lytro ILLUM camera. Additionally, we propose the Omni-Frequency Projection Network (OFPNet), which decomposes the omni-frequency components and iteratively enhances them through frequency projection operations to address spatially variant degradation processes present in all frequency components. Experiments demonstrate that models trained on LytroZoom outperform those trained on synthetic datasets and are generalizable to diverse content and devices. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations verify the superiority of OFPNet. We believe this work will inspire future research in real-world light field SR.

A Fine-grained Chinese Software Privacy Policy Dataset for Sequence Labeling and Regulation Compliant Identification

Privacy protection raises great attention on both legal levels and user awareness. To protect user privacy, countries enact laws and regulations requiring software privacy policies to regulate their behavior. However, privacy policies are written in natural languages with many legal terms and software jargon that prevent users from understanding and even reading them. It is desirable to use NLP techniques to analyze privacy policies for helping users understand them. Furthermore, existing datasets ignore law requirements and are limited to English. In this paper, we construct the first Chinese privacy policy dataset, namely CA4P-483, to facilitate the sequence labeling tasks and regulation compliance identification between privacy policies and software. Our dataset includes 483 Chinese Android application privacy policies, over 11K sentences, and 52K fine-grained annotations. We evaluate families of robust and representative baseline models on our dataset. Based on baseline performance, we provide findings and potential research directions on our dataset. Finally, we investigate the potential applications of CA4P-483 combing regulation requirements and program analysis.

The Time Perception Control and Regulation in VR Environment

To adapt to different environments, human circadian rhythms will be constantly adjusted as the environment changes, which follows the principle of survival of the fittest. According to this principle, objective factors (such as circadian rhythms, and light intensity) can be utilized to control time perception. The subjective judgment on the estimation of elapsed time is called time perception. In the physical world, factors that can affect time perception, represented by illumination, are called the Zeitgebers. In recent years, with the development of Virtual Reality (VR) technology, effective control of zeitgebers has become possible, which is difficult to achieve in the physical world. Based on previous studies, this paper deeply explores the actual performance in VR environment of four types of time zeitgebers (music, color, cognitive load, and concentration) that have been proven to have a certain impact on time perception in the physical world. It discusses the study of the measurement of the difference between human time perception and objective escaped time in the physical world.

Axion model with the ${\rm SU}(6)$ unification

We propose an ${\rm SU}(6)$ unified theory that solves the strong ${\it CP}$ problem with a high-quality axion. This is achieved by an automatic global Peccei-Quinn ${\rm U}(1)_{\rm PQ}$ symmetry and the gauged discrete $\mathbb{Z}_{4{\cal R}}$ symmetry. With the axion mass predictions of $m_a \sim {\cal O}(10^{-3} ) - {\cal O}(0.1) \,{\rm eV}$, as well as a universal axion-photon coupling in the unification models, the QCD axion can be probed in the upcoming experiments of IAXO. An intermediate gauge symmetry breaking scale characterized by the axion decay constant is obtained by the Peccei-Quinn quality argument, which is likely to achieve a successful leptogenesis through the type-I seesaw mechanism. The Higgs sector at the electroweak scale is a type-II two-Higgs-doublet model. The gauge coupling unification is possible with the supersymmetric extension.

Kalman Filtering Attention for User Behavior Modeling in CTR Prediction

Click-through rate (CTR) prediction is one of the fundamental tasks for e-commerce search engines. As search becomes more personalized, it is necessary to capture the user interest from rich behavior data. Existing user behavior modeling algorithms develop different attention mechanisms to emphasize query-relevant behaviors and suppress irrelevant ones. Despite being extensively studied, these attentions still suffer from two limitations. First, conventional attentions mostly limit the attention field only to a single user's behaviors, which is not suitable in e-commerce where users often hunt for new demands that are irrelevant to any historical behaviors. Second, these attentions are usually biased towards frequent behaviors, which is unreasonable since high frequency does not necessarily indicate great importance. To tackle the two limitations, we propose a novel attention mechanism, termed Kalman Filtering Attention (KFAtt), that considers the weighted pooling in attention as a maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation. By incorporating a priori, KFAtt resorts to global statistics when few user behaviors are relevant. Moreover, a frequency capping mechanism is incorporated to correct the bias towards frequent behaviors. Offline experiments on both benchmark and a 10 billion scale real production dataset, together with an Online A/B test, show that KFAtt outperforms all compared state-of-the-arts. KFAtt has been deployed in the ranking system of a leading e commerce website, serving the main traffic of hundreds of millions of active users everyday.
