Spin-Point-Group Classification of Multipoles for Nonrelativistic Collinear Magnets

Multipole moments provide a unified symmetry language for describing electronic degrees of freedom and their associated physical responses. Although active multipoles have been systematically classified for crystallographic and magnetic point groups, their classification in spin point groups, which naturally describe magnetic systems in the absence of spin-orbit coupling, has remained unexplored. In this work, we present a complete classification of active orbital and spin multipoles for all 32 nonmagnetic and 122 collinear spin point groups. Treating orbital and spin degrees of freedom independently, we identify the symmetry-allowed multipoles associated with nonmagnetic and collinear magnetic orderings and clarify their hierarchy through comparisons among the corresponding spin point groups. The resulting classification provides a symmetry-based database that distinguishes structural and magnetic contributions to active multipoles and directly identifies microscopic order parameters, including those responsible for $d$-, $g$-, and $i$-wave altermagnetism. Furthermore, by classifying response tensors within the same framework, we establish a correspondence between active multipoles and symmetry-allowed physical responses. This correspondence systematically distinguishes nonrelativistic responses that survive without spin-orbit coupling from those requiring relativistic effects, providing a unified framework for understanding and predicting spin-dependent electromagnetic and transport phenomena in magnetic materials.

Analysis of Spin Current Generation by Elastic Waves in $f$-wave Altermagnets

We theoretically investigate the mechanism of spin current generation induced by elastic waves in nonrelativistic magnets referred to as altermagnets. By analyzing an $f$-wave altermagnet formed by a three-sublattice noncollinear antiferromagnetic structure breaking the spatial inversion symmetry on a two-dimensional triangular lattice within the linear response theory, we show that the nonrelativistic antisymmetric spin-split band structure can give rise to spin current generation when either longitudinal or transverse elastic wave is applied. We find that the momentum dependence of the antisymmetric spin splitting leads to a characteristic direction-dependent spin current response. We also compare the present nonrelativistic magnetic-order-driven mechanism with the relativistic one in a nonmagnetic Rashba system. These findings highlight the potential of invesion-symmetry-breaking altermagnets as a spin current generator driven by elasticity without relying on the relativistic spin-orbit coupling.

Nonrelativistic Functional Properties in Collinear Antiferromagnets Based on Multipole Representation Theory

In recent years, the concept of multipoles has been widely used to describe and classify various magnetic and electric responses in solids, providing a systematic way to identify symmetry-allowed or -forbidden physical responses. Conventionally, multipole classifications rely on the magnetic point group of a system, which inherently incorporates the effects of relativistic spin-orbit coupling because the spin orientation is supposed to follow the point-group transformation of the lattice. However, this approach becomes insufficient in situations where relativistic spin-orbit coupling is negligibly weak or where the spin and orbital (lattice) degrees of freedom are decoupled, thereby requiring a more comprehensive symmetry description. In this work, we introduce a multipole description on the basis of the spin-point-group symmetries, enabling a systematic exploration of nonrelativistic phenomena that persist even without spin-orbit coupling in a collinear antiferromagnet. As an application, we theoretically demonstrate spin-current generation driven by elastic waves in a specific collinear antiferromagnet, fully independent of spin-orbit coupling.

Nonlinear Piezomagnetic Effects in $g$-wave Altermagnets

We theoretically study the generation of net magnetization induced by static strain in $g$-wave altermagnets, which exhibit the symmetric spin-split band structure under collinear spin textures free from the relativistic spin-orbit coupling. By analyzing a tight-binding model in a two-dimensional tetragonal system, we show that the $g$-wave altermagnets give rise to the nonlinear piezomagnetic effect, where a net magnetization is induced by the second-order strain. We compare the results for the $g$-wave altermagnets with those for the $d$-wave altermagnets, where the linear piezomagnetic effect occurs. As a result, we find that the induced magnetization is enhanced when the Fermi level lies on the band with the large spin splitting in both cases. We also show that the magnitudes of the induced magnetization are comparable to each other. Our results indicate that the nonlinear piezomagnetic effect is a good phenomenon to characterize the physical properties in $g$-wave altermagnets.

Microscopic Analysis of Lattice Distortion Effects in Rashba Systems

We theoretically study the effects of dynamical lattice distortion in a three-dimensional Rashba system based on a tight-binding model. Considering an $sp$-electron system on a tetragonal lattice with broken inversion symmetry, lattice distortions are incorporated through hopping-integral and crystal-axis modulations. The effective Hamiltonian for the $p_z$- or $s$-derived band is found to have Rashba modulation terms, which induce various types of spin currents, such as Rashba, quadrupolar, perpendicular, and helicity currents. The results are compared with those obtained by the method of local coordinate transformation.
