Voltage-Regulated Photoluminescence Modulation in a 0D-2D Mixed Dimensional Heterostructure

Bias dependent oscillations in excitonic photoluminescence are observed in a mixed dimensional 0D 2D heterostructure. These oscillations arise from modulation by oscillatory DC photocurrent, which exhibits periodic negative differential resistance, indicating recurring charge accumulation within the heterostructure. The persistence of these oscillations across a macroscopic area of diameter around 200 microns suggests the presence of periodically correlated quantum phenomena over large length scales. Furthermore, bias dependent oscillations in the photo capacitance are observed, reflecting a periodic ordering and disordering of excitonic populations. Together, these observations point to a direct competition between coherent and incoherent electron tunnelling processes. The coupled oscillatory behaviour of photoluminescence, photocurrent, and photo capacitance highlights new opportunities for exciton-based quantum optoelectronic devices.

Controllable Superconductivity in Suspended van der Waals Materials

Tunable superconductors provide a versatile platform for advancing next-generation quantum technologies. Here, we demonstrate controllable superconductivity in suspended NbSe2 thin layers, achieved through local strain and thermal modulation of the superconducting state. Our results show that suspended NbSe2 structures enable strain modulation of the critical temperature by up to approximately 0.92 K (about 12.5% of the critical temperature) and allow the realization of gate-tunable superconducting critical currents. We further demonstrate configurable hysteretic transport characteristics exhibiting multistability and negative differential resistance, providing easily reconfigurable, spatially dependent superconducting states. These phenomena are well explained by calculations of electron-phonon coupling using density functional theory, together with time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau dynamics coupled to the thermal diffusion equation. Our work provides profound insight into strain and thermal modulation of van der Waals superconductors and opens new opportunities for tunable on-chip superconductor devices, integrated superconducting circuits, and quantum simulators.

Low-noise parametric microwave amplifier based on self-heated nonlinear impedance with sub-nanosecond thermal response

Low-noise amplifiers are of great importance in the field of quantum technologies. We study a thermally driven parametric amplifier based on a superconductor-insulator-graphene-insulator-superconductor (SIGIS) junction coupled to a superconducting microwave cavity. The strong non-linearity in the temperature dependence of our device leads to thermal self-modulation that produces impedance oscillations at frequencies around twice the angular cavity resonance frequency $ω_\mathrm{r}$. In particular, reactance modulation of the effective capacitance yields a gain of 18.6 dB over a frequency span of 125 kHz with a minimum noise temperature of $T_\mathrm{N} = 1.4$ K. Our theoretical modelling gives insight into the exact mixing processes, confirmation of the electron-phonon coupling parameter and possible improvements of the studied system.
