Cross-Head Attention Uplift Network with Inverse Propensity Score under Unobserved Confounding

Uplift modeling, crucial for estimating individual treatment effects (ITE), faces dual challenges: flexibly leveraging inter-group similarity to enhance discriminative power and debiasing under unobserved confounding scenarios. In this paper, we propose the Cross-Head Attention Uplift Network (CHAUN) and Robust Adversarial Inverse Propensity Score (RA-IPS) method to address these limitations. CHAUN employs shared feature embeddings and cross-head attention mechanisms to dynamically integrate treatment-specific and control-specific representations, enhancing inter-group correlation modeling. Theoretically, we prove that access to the true propensity scores ensures ITE identifiability even with unobserved confounders. For practical scenarios lacking true propensity scores, RA-IPS adversarially optimizes propensity weights within constrained uncertainty sets to mitigate bias from unobserved variables. Experiments on public datasets (CRITEO-UPLIFT, LAZADA) and a production e-commerce dataset demonstrate CHAUN's superiority over state-of-the-art uplift models, achieving relative improvements of up to 25.6% in QINI scores. RA-IPS further enhances robustness, outperforming standard IPS by 5.4% under unobserved confounding. The results validate the effectiveness of our proposed methods in real-world causal inference tasks.

MAAM: Anchor-Preserving Compression and Contextual Calibration for Chinese Discriminatory Language Detection

Chinese discriminatory-language detection is challenging because harmful intent is often implicit and context-dependent. We propose MAAM (Myopia--Astigmatism Anchor Mechanism), a lightweight, model-agnostic framework inspired by functional visual blur: rather than preserving every token equally, MAAM retains discrimination-relevant semantic anchors and calibrates them with C--I--S contextual priors (Contextual Tone, Group Identity, and Stance Polarity). We also introduce ChLGBT, to our knowledge the first Chinese LGBT-focused discriminatory-language dataset, with 8,120 manually annotated samples and three ordinal labels: explicit bias, implicit bias, and emotional intensity. Across strong encoder baselines, MAAM improves all three prediction dimensions, with consistent gains in accuracy, F1, Brier score, and expected calibration error. Compared with frontier LLM baselines under zero-shot and few-shot prompting protocols, MAAM remains competitive while offering stronger compactness and stability. These results suggest that interpretable anchor preservation and contextual calibration provide a practical alternative to heavier model scaling for Chinese discriminatory-language assessment.

FFN: a Fine-grained Chinese-English Financial Domain Parallel Corpus

Large Language Models (LLMs) have stunningly advanced the field of machine translation, though their effectiveness within the financial domain remains largely underexplored. To probe this issue, we constructed a fine-grained Chinese-English parallel corpus of financial news called FFN. We acquired financial news articles spanning between January 1st, 2014, to December 31, 2023, from mainstream media websites such as CNN, FOX, and China Daily. The dataset consists of 1,013 main text and 809 titles, all of which have been manually corrected. We measured the translation quality of two LLMs -- ChatGPT and ERNIE-bot, utilizing BLEU, TER and chrF scores as the evaluation metrics. For comparison, we also trained an OpenNMT model based on our dataset. We detail problems of LLMs and provide in-depth analysis, intending to stimulate further research and solutions in this largely uncharted territory. Our research underlines the need to optimize LLMs within the specific field of financial translation to ensure accuracy and quality.

Wrinkling instability of 3D auxetic bilayers in tension

Bilayers, soft substrates coated with stiff films, are commonly found in nature with examples including skin tissue, vesicles, and organ membranes. They exhibit different types of instabilities when subjected to compression, depending on the contrast in material properties between the two components. In this work, we unravel the mechanisms behind wrinkling instabilities in auxetic bilayer systems under uniaxial tension. We find that a soft bilayer in tension can experience significant lateral contraction, and with sufficient contrast in Poisson ratios, compressive stresses may induce wrinkles aligned with the tensile direction. We analytically model the onset of wrinkles and validate our predictions using Finite Element simulations in ABAQUS. Our findings reveal that wrinkles occur when the Poisson ratio of the substrate is greater than that of the film. As the two Poisson ratios converge to a common value, the critical stretch for instability shoots up rapidly and the wrinkles disappear. We also confirm these results through asymptotic analysis. Using inverse analysis, we design film microstructures to achieve desired effective Poisson ratios and further validate the effective properties with the Finite Element code FEAP. We show that the critical stretch ratio for buckling in auxetic structures with microstructural patterns is in strong agreement with the homogenized model predictions. The proposed method has significant potential for controlling surface patterns in auxetic skin grafts and hydrogel organ patches under mechanical loads. Moreover, the asymptotic expressions for compressible bilayers developed in this work can also be applied under finite strain for buckling-based metrology.

MCMF: Multi-Constraints With Merging Features Bid Optimization in Online Display Advertising

In the Real-Time Bidding (RTB), advertisers are increasingly relying on bid optimization to gain more conversions (i.e trade or arrival). Currently, the efficiency of bid optimization is still challenged by the (1) sparse feedback, (2) the budget management separated from the optimization, and (3) absence of bidding environment modeling. The conversion feedback is delayed and sparse, yet most methods rely on dense input (impression or click). Furthermore, most approaches are implemented in two stages: optimum formulation and budget management, but the separation always degrades performance. Meanwhile, absence of bidding environment modeling, model-free controllers are commonly utilized, which perform poorly on sparse feedback and lead to control instability. We address these challenges and provide the Multi-Constraints with Merging Features (MCMF) framework. It collects various bidding statuses as merging features to promise performance on the sparse and delayed feedback. A cost function is formulated as dynamic optimum solution with budget management, the optimization and budget management are not separated. According to the cost function, the approximated gradients based on the Hebbian Learning Rule are capable of updating the MCMF, even without modeling of the bidding environment. Our technique performs the best in the open dataset and provides stable budget management even in extreme sparsity. The MCMF is applied in our real RTB production and we get 2.69% more conversions with 2.46% fewer expenditures.

A novel buckling pattern in periodically porous elastomers with applications to elastic wave regulations

This paper proposes a new metamaterial structure consisting of a periodically porous elastomer with pore coatings. This design enables us to engender finite deformation by a contactless load. As a case study, we apply thermal load to the pore coating and carry out a finite element analysis to probe instabilities and the associated phononic properties. It turns out that a novel buckling mode, preserving the nature of surface wrinkling in tubular structures, can be induced under a plane-strain setup, and a smaller size of the unit cell is attained compared to the counterpart of traditional buckled profile in soft porous elastomers. In particular, this buckling pattern is able to produce several bandgaps in different frequency ranges as the macroscopic mean strain increases. We further introduce a metallic core as local resonator, and the updated metamaterial allows a low-frequency bandgap, the bandgap width of which can be estimated by a simplified theoretical model. As more free parameters are involved in the structure, we perform a detailed parametric study to elucidate the influences of the modulus ratio between coating and matrix, the porosity, the core radius, and the macroscopic mean strain on the buckling initiation and the evolution of bandgap. Remarkably, a stiffer surface coating is prone to enhance the stability of the structure, which is contrary to existing results in film/substrate bilayers. It is expected that the current study could shed light on new insight into pattern formation and wave manipulation in porous elastomers.
