Possible Evidence of a Universal Radio/X-ray Correlation in a near-Complete Sample of Hard X-ray Selected Seyfert Galaxies

Because the disc--jet coupling likely depends on various properties of sources probed, the sample control is always an important but challenging task. In this work, we re-analyzed the INTEGRAL hard X-ray-selected sample of Seyfert galaxies. We only consider sources that have measurements in black hole mass, and luminosities in radio and X-rays. Our sample includes 64 sources, consists of both bright AGNs and low-luminosity ones. We first find that, because of the similarity in the $L_{HX}/L_X$ distribution, the X-ray origin of radio-loud Seyferts may be the same to that of radio-quiet ones, where we attribute to the hot accretion flow (or similarly, the corona). We then investigate the connections between luminosities in radio and X-rays. Since our sample suffers a selection bias of a black hole mass $M_{BH}$ dependence on $L_X/L_{Edd}$, we focus on the correlation slope $ξ_X$ between the radio (at 1.4 GHz) and X-ray luminosities in Eddington unit, i.e. $(L_R/L_{Edd})\propto(L_X/L_{Edd})^{ξ_X}$. We classify the sources according to various properties, i.e. 1) Seyfert classification, 2) radio loudness, and 3) radio morphology. We find that, despite these differences in classification, all the sources in our sample are consistent with a universal correlation slope $ξ_X$, with $ξ_X=0.77\pm0.10$. This is unexpected, considering various possible radio emitters in radio-quiet systems. For the jet interpretation, our result may suggest a common/universal but to be identified jet launching mechanism among all the Seyfert galaxies, while properties like black hole spin and magnetic field strength only play secondary roles. We further estimate the jet production efficiency $η_{jet}$ of Seyfert galaxies, which is $η_{jet}\approx1.9^{+0.9}_{-1.5}\times10^{-4}$ on average. We also find that $η_{jet}$ increases as the system goes fainter.

^{99,101}Ru NMR and ^{63,65}Cu NQR Study of the Magnetic Superconductors RuSr_{2}EuCu_{2}O_{8} and RuSr_{2}GdCu_{2}O_{8}

In order to investigate the coexistence of magnetism and superconductivity on a microscopic scale, local studies using zero-field spin-echo ^{99,101}Ru NMR and ^{63,65}Cu NQR have been carried out on both superconducting and non-superconducting samples of magnetically ordered RuSr_{2}EuCu_{2}O_{8} and RuSr_{2}GdCu_{2}O_{8}. ^{99,101}Ru NMR signals were observed at 1.3 K over two distinct frequency ranges. The high frequency spectra (110 to 150 MHz), which are essentially the same for all samples, are characterized by five sharp peaks for each isotope corresponding to a hyperfine field of approximately 590 kOe with the appropriate quadrupole splitting. The low frequency spectra (40 to 90 MHz), which show significant variation from sample to sample, correspond to a much lower hyperfine field with considerable broadening and quadrupole features that are barely resolvable. As reported previously, the low frequency spectra are attributed to the Ru^{4+} valence state while the high frequency spectra are attributed to the Ru^{5+} valence state. ^{63,65}Cu NQR features were observed (26 to 34 MHz), although with considerable broadening. The results are discussed in terms of the microscopic magnetic structure, mixed valence state for Ru, occupancy of the Ru sites, and the existence and role of impurity phases.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Magnetization Studies of the Ferromagnetic Ordering Temperature Suppression in Ru Deficient SrRuO3

The synthesis of SrRuO3 under high-pressure oxygen produces a nonstoichiometric form with randomly distributed vacancies on the Ru-sites, along with a significantly reduced ferromagnetic ordering temperature. In order to gain additional insight into the suppression of the ferromagnetism, local studies utilizing 99,101 Ru zero-field spin-echo NMR, and Ru K-edge XAFS, along with complimentary magnetization and x-ray diffraction measurements, have been carried out on samples of SrRuO3 annealed at both ("ambient") atmospheric pressure and "high-pressure" oxygen (600 atm). Consistent with previous work, the NMR spectrum for "ambient" SrRuO3 consists of two well-defined peaks at 64.4 MHz and 72.2 MHz corresponding to the 99Ru and 101Ru isotopes, respectively, and a hyperfine field of 329 kG. Although the magnetization measurements show a lower ferromagnetic ordering temperature for the "high-pressure" oxygen sample (90 K compared to 160 K for the "ambient" sample), the NMR spectrum shows no significant shift in the two peak frequencies. However, the two peaks exhibit considerable broadening, along with structure on both the low and high frequency sides which is believed to be quadrupolar in origin. Analysis of the Ru K-edge XAFS reveals more disorder in the Ru-O bond for the "high-pressure" oxygen sample compared to the "ambient" sample. Furthermore, XANES of Ru K-edge analysis indicates no difference in the valence of Ru between the two samples. The magnetic behavior indicates the existence of some vacancies on the Ru sites for the "high-pressure" oxygen sample.

Local studies of the ferromagnetic ordering temperature suppression in SrRuO3

In order to gain insight into suppression of the ferromagnetic ordering temperature, local studies utilizing 99,101Ru zero-field spin-echo NMR, along with complimentary magnetization, high-angle x-ray diffraction, and Ru K-edge XAFS measurements, have been carried out on samples of SrRuO3 annealed at both "ambient" (atmospheric) pressure and "high-pressure" oxygen (600 atm). For the "high pressure" sample, the results indicate structural disorder and the existence of some vacancies on the Ru sites, along with a reduced magnetic ordering temperature.

Influence of the starting composition on the structural and superconducting properties of MgB2 phase

We report the preparation of Mg$_{1-x}$B$_{2}$ (0$\le$x$\le$0.5) compounds with the nominal compositions. Single phase MgB$_{2}$ was obtained for x=0 sample. For 0$<$x$\le$0.5, MgB$_{4}$ coexists with "MgB$_{2}$" and the amount of MgB$_{4}$ increases with x. With the increase of x, the lattice parameter ${\it c}$ of "MgB$_{2}$" increases and the lattice parameter ${\it a}$ decreases, correspondingly T$_{c}$ of Mg$_{1-x}$B$_{2}$ decreases. The results were discussed in terms of the presence of Mg vacancies or B interstitials in the MgB$_{2}$ structure. This work is helpful to the understanding of the MgB$_{2}$ films with different T$_{c}$, as well as the Mg site doping effect for MgB$_{2}$.

Effect of Li doping on structure and superconducting transition temperature of Mg1-xLixB2

We report the preparation of Mg1-xLixB2 compounds. Nearly single phased samples were obtained for x<0.3. The in-plane lattice parameter a decreases with Li doping, while the lattice parameter c does not show obvious change. The superconducting transition temperature of Mg1-xLixB2 decreases with Li doping and loss of superconductivity occurs for x=0.5 sample. The results of our work are consistent with the prediction of the hole superconductivity mechanism.
