Nonextensive information entropy for stochastic networks

Nature is full of random networks of complex topology describing such apparently disparate systems as biological, economical or informatical ones. Their most characteristic feature is the apparent scale-free character of interconnections between nodes. Using an information theory approach, we show that maximalization of information entropy leads to a wide spectrum of possible types of distributions including, in the case of nonextensive information entropy, the power-like scale-free distributions characteristic of complex systems.

Information theory approach (extensive and nonextensive) to high energy multiple production processes

We present an overview of information theory approach (both in its extensive and nonextensive versions) applied to high energy multiparticle production processes. It will be illustrated by analysis of single particle distributions measured in proton-proton, proton-antiproton and nuclear collisions. We shall demonstrate the particular role played by the nonextensivity parameter q in such analysis as summarizing our knowledge on the fluctuations existed in hadronizing system.

Estimating the inelasticity with the information theory approach

Using the information theory approach, in both its extensive and nonextensive versions, we estimate the inelasticity parameter $K$ of hadronic reactions together with its distribution and energy dependence from $p\bar{p}$ and $pp$ data. We find that the inelasticity remains essentially constant in energy except for a variation around $K\sim 0.5$, as was originally expected.

Bose-Einstein Correlations as correlations of fluctuations

The limitations of the recently proposed new method of numerical modelling of Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) are explicitly demonstrated. It is then argued that BEC should still be considered as emerging from the correlations of fluctuations, however they have to be modelled first in any Monte Carlo event generator (MCEG) and not added {\it a posteriori} to the existing output of some MCEG.

Are Bose-Einstein Correlations emerging from correlations of fluctuations?

We demonstrate how Bose-Einstein correlations emerge from the correlations of fluctuations allowing for their extremely simple and fast numerical modelling. Both the advantages and limitations of this new method of implementation of BEC in the numerical modelling of high energy multiparticle processes are outlined and discussed. First applications to description of $e^+e^-$ data are given.

CASTOR: Centauro and Strange Object Research in nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC

We describe the CASTOR detector designed to probe the very forward, baryon-rich rapidity region in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC. We present a phenomenological model describing the formation of a QGP fireball in a high baryochemical potential environment, and its subsequent decay into baryons and strangelets. The model explains Centauros and the long-penetrating component and makes predictions for the LHC. Simulations of Centauro-type events were done. To study the response of the apparatus to new effects different exotic species (DCC, Centauros, strangelets etc.) were passed through the deep calorimeter. The energy deposition pattern in the calorimeter appears to be a new clear signature of the QGP.

Rapidity Spectra Analysis in Terms of Non Extensive Statistic Approach

We provide description of rapidity spectra of particles produced in p-anti-p collisions using anomalous diffusion approach to account for their non-equilibrium character. In particular, we exhibit connection between multiproduction processes and anomalous diffusion described through the nonlinear Focker-Planck equation with nonlinearity given by the nonextensivity parameter q describing the underlying Tsallis q-statistics and demonstrate how it leads to the Feynman scaling violation in these collisions. The q parameter obtained this way turns out to be closely connected to parameter 1/k converting the original poissonian multiplicity distribution to its observed Negative Binomial form. The inelasticity of reaction has been also calculated and found to slightly decrease with the increasing energy of reaction. Keywords: inelasticity, rapidity spectra, nonextensivity

Bose-Einstein correlations as reflection of correlations of fluctuations

Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) observed between identical bosons produced in high energy multiparticle collisions are regarded as very important tool in investigations of multiparticle production processes. We present here their stochastic feature stressing the fact that they can be regarded as a reflection of correlations of fluctuations present in hadronizing system. We show in particular that such approach allows for simple modelling of BEC in numerical event generators used to describe the multiparticle production processes at high energy collisions.

Numerical modelling of correlations

We demonstrate algorithm for numerical modelling of Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) formulated on quantum statistical level for a single event and exploring the property that identical particles subjected to Bose statistics do bunch themselves in a maximal possible way in the same cells in phase-space.

Numerical modelling of Bose-Einstein correlations

We propose extension of the algorithm for numerical modelling of Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC), which was presented some time ago in the literature. It is formulated on quantum statistical level for a single event and uses the fact that identical particles subjected to Bose statistics do bunch themselves, in a maximal possible way, in the same cells in phase-space. The bunching effect is in our case obtained in novel way allowing for broad applications and fast numerical calculations. First comparison with $e^+e^-$ annihilations data performed by using simple cascade hadronization model is very encouraging.

Can cosmic rays provide sign of strangelets?

We discuss the possible imprints of Strange Quark Matter (SQM) in cosmic ray data. In particular, we investigate the propagation of SQM through the atmosphere and discuss: i) direct candidates for strangelets, ii) exotic events interpreted as signals of SQM and iii) muon bundles and delayed neutrons in Extensive Air Showers. The physics and astrophysics of SQM is shortly reviewed. We point out the possibility that extreme energy cosmic rays are the results of the decay of unstable primordial objects. Finally, the abundance of possible candidates for strangelets and their mass spectrum are estimated and compared with the astrophysical limits and prospects of the possible observation of SQM in accelerator experiments are outlined.

Non-exponential decays and nonextensivity

We demonstrate that non-exponential decays of unstable systems can be understood as yet another example of nonextensivity encountered in many physical systems and as such can be characterized by the nonextensivity parameter q.

Application of nonextensive statistics to particle and nuclear physics

We present an overview of possible imprints of non-extensitivity in particle and nucler physics. Special emphasis is put on the intrinsic fluctuations present in the system under consideration as the possible source of nonextensivity. The possible connection of nonextensivity and the self organized criticality apparently being observed in some cosmic rays and hadronic experiments will also be discussed.

Transverse momentum fluctuations due to temperature variation in high-energy nuclear collisions

The event-by-event p_T-fluctuations due to the temperature variation are considered. The so-called Phi-measure is computed and shown to be a linear function of the temperature variance. The fluctuations of temperature naturally explain the data on Phi(p_T) in proton-proton and central Pb-Pb collisions but independent measurements of the temperature fluctuations are needed to confirm the explanation. Feasibility of such an event-by-event measurement is discussed.

How to model Bose-Einstein correlations

We propose new algorithm for numerical modelling of Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC). It is based on the fact that identical particles subjected to BEC do, by definition, bunch themselves in a maximal possible way, restricted only by conservation laws, in the same cells in phase-space.
