Multi-Agent Deep Q-Network with Layer-based Communication Channel for Autonomous Internal Logistics Vehicle Scheduling in Smart Manufacturing

In smart manufacturing, scheduling autonomous internal logistic vehicles is crucial for optimizing operational efficiency. This paper proposes a multi-agent deep Q-network (MADQN) with a layer-based communication channel (LBCC) to address this challenge. The main goals are to minimize total job tardiness, reduce the number of tardy jobs, and lower vehicle energy consumption. The method is evaluated against nine well-known scheduling heuristics, demonstrating its effectiveness in handling dynamic job shop behaviors like job arrivals and workstation unavailabilities. The approach also proves scalable, maintaining performance across different layouts and larger problem instances, highlighting the robustness and adaptability of MADQN with LBCC in smart manufacturing.

Factors influencing Drug Consumption and Prediction Methods

Estimating the needs of healthcare products and inventory management are still challenging issues in hospitals nowadays. Centers are supposed to cope with tight budgets and patient satisfaction at the same time. Some issues can be tackled in advance, especially regarding the prediction of drug consumption needs. This work delves into the literature in order to highlight existing methods of quantifying and estimating the needs for drugs in health facilities. A second objective is to draw up a list of factors that impact drug consumption in particular, factors that are used in these prediction methods. Following this literature review, it appears that six sustainable methods are being used by practitioners around the world, taking into account certain prerequisites and types of data. Thirty-four factors are identified as well and grouped into three categories. These results should participate in setting up new tools for predicting the need of drugs, to facilitate the upstream dimensioning of new pharmaceutical warehouses and to solve some hospital logistics issues.

Knowledge-based multi-level aggregation for decision aid in the machining industry

In the context of Industry 4.0, data management is a key point for decision aid approaches. Large amounts of manufacturing digital data are collected on the shop floor. Their analysis can then require a large amount of computing power. The Big Data issue can be solved by aggregation, generating smart and meaningful data. This paper presents a new knowledge-based multi-level aggregation strategy to support decision making. Manufacturing knowledge is used at each level to design the monitoring criteria or aggregation operators. The proposed approach has been implemented as a demonstrator and successfully applied to a real machining database from the aeronautic industry. Decision Making; Machining; Knowledge based system
