Wave-particle acceleration during supernova explosions

We investigate particle acceleration during the early stages of a supernova explosion via a resonant interaction between electromagnetic waves and quantum waves associated with particles. For typical progenitor masses of $(8; 12; 20)\times M_s$, we find that this mechanism can accelerate protons to energies of up to $3\times 10^{14}$ eV. Interestingly, despite the continuously declining luminosity, the particle energy initially increases, reaches a maximum, and subsequently decreases, reflecting the characteristic behavior of the resonant acceleration mechanism.

Shock acceleration in vortex driven magnetic fields of black holes

The aim of this work is to investigate particle acceleration by shock waves in the magnetospheres of supermassive black holes, where the magnetic field is vortex-driven. For this purpose, we investigated the first-order Fermi acceleration process at relativistic shocks in the magnetospheres of supermassive black holes. In our analysis, we considered synchrotron radiation and inverse Compton scattering as the principal energy-loss mechanisms limiting the maximum attainable particle energy. We investigated the acceleration of both protons and electrons and demonstrated that, for a typical supermassive black hole with a mass of $10^8$ solar masses, protons can be accelerated to energies of several hundred PeV, whereas electrons can attain energies of up to approximately 120 GeV.

Vortex driven Schwinger pair creation in the magnetosphere of SgrA*

In this work, we explore the possibility of Schwinger pair creation triggered by magneto-centrifugal effects in the magnetosphere of SgrA*. We show that these effects become extremely efficient in the presence of a vortex-driven magnetic field, whose strength exceeds previous estimates by several orders of magnitude. The dynamics of magneto-centrifugally accelerated charged particles leads to charge separation, thereby parametrically exciting Langmuir waves. The associated electric field grows exponentially and upon reaching the Schwinger critical threshold, initiates efficient electron-positron pair production, which is ultimately saturated by annihilation processes.

Modified light-cylinder and centrifugal acceleration in Schwarzschild geometry

We examine the motion of an electron constrained to follow a magnetic field line near a primordial sub-stellar mass black hole. Earlier studies treated the problem in flat (Minkowski) spacetime, yielding qualitatively correct results and introducing a light cylinder (LC), a hypothetical surface where the linear velocity of rotation equals the speed of light. However, this picture changes significantly when gravity is included. By analyzing the electron's dynamics in the Schwarzschild metric, we obtain a modified light cylinder (MLC) whose geometry no longer resembles a cylinder. We then determine the maximum energies attainable by the electrons under the limiting effects of inverse Compton scattering, curvature radiation, and synchrotron radiation.

Megastructures of type-III civilizations orbiting galaxies

The article discusses the possibility of a Type-III extraterrestrial civilization constructing megastructures around a galaxy in regions where the galactic radiation becomes indistinguishable from the CMB radiation. For a Milky Way-like galaxy, we estimated the corresponding distance from its center at which a solar mass megastructure would need to be placed. We also showed that, from an energetic standpoint, placing such a massive object into orbit poses no fundamental difficulties. The detectability of the megastructure was also addressed.

Pair creation in the vortex-driven magnetic fields of black holes

We study the effects of pair creation on the radiation emerging from black holes under the assumption that the magnetic fields are vortex driven. In particular, for a sufficiently broad range of supermassive black holes, we investigated the energies at which photons undergo decay under the influence of a strong magnetic field, producing electron-positron pairs. Depending on particular physical parameters, it has been shown that in certain scenarios high or very high energy emission generated by black holes will be strongly suppressed, thus, will be unable to escape a zone where radiation is generated. In particular, photons with energies exceeding $\sim 1$ GeV will never leave the magnetosphere if they are generated at the scale 10$R_g$ and the threshold is of the order of $1$ TeV, if the emission is produced at $\sim 100\; R_g$. Analysing the process versus the black hole mass, assuming the region $100\; R_g$, it has been shown that for the considered lowest mass, the photons with energies $250$ GeV will never leave the black hole and for the considered highest mass the corresponding value is $\sim 250$ TeV.

Earth as a potential source of life For Europa's subsurface ocean

The paper discusses the possibility of dust particles containing living bacteria ejected from Earth, reaching Europa and landing on its surface. It is shown that, taking certain factors into account, over a period of (30-80) Myr (the estimated age of Europa's ocean), Jupiter's moon would have been impacted by approximately $3\times 10^{23}$ to $8\times 10^{23}$ particles in total, within which a bacterium could have survived. In this paper we discuss the possibility of dust grains entering liquid water beneath the surface.

Implications of Photon Mass: Vortextrap Magnetization of Black Holes

We discuss certain astrophysical implications of the photon mass. It offers a new mechanism of black hole magnetization, described as ``vortextrap magnetization" (VTM), which can generate a near-saturated magnetic field in astrophysical black holes. The extreme magnetic field is provided by a large number of Nielsen-Olesen type vortex lines piercing a black hole. In massive photon scenario the galactic magnetic field is a densely populated forest of overlapping magnetic flux tubes. These get trapped and collected by a black hole over a cosmological time-scale. The VTM mechanism neatly fits supermassive black holes with sizes matching the phenomenologically-acceptable values of the photon mass, and has implications for magnetic-field based particle acceleration. Even in absence of surrounding plasma, the near-saturated magnetic field is expected to result into an intense electromagnetic radiation as well as gravitational waves in black hole mergers. We provide a numerical simulation of the VTM phenomenon in a prototype system.

Black holes as tools for quantum computing by advanced extraterrestrial civilizations

We explain that black holes are the most efficient capacitors of quantum information. It is thereby expected that all sufficiently advanced civilizations ultimately employ black holes in their quantum computers. The accompanying Hawking radiation is democratic in particle species. Due to this, the alien quantum computers will radiate in ordinary particles such as neutrinos and photons within the range of potential sensitivity of our detectors. This offers a new avenue for SETI, including the civilizations entirely composed of hidden particles species interacting with our world exclusively through gravity.

Radio pulsars resonantly accelerating electrons

Based on the recently demonstrated resonant wave-wave process, it is shown that electrons can be accelerated to ultra-relativistic energies in the magnetospheres of radio pulsars. The energization occurs via the resonant interaction of the electron wave (described by a Klein-Gordon (KG) equation) moving in unison with an intense electromagnetic (EM) wave; the KG wave/particle continuously draws energy from EM. In a brief recapitulation of the general theory, the high energy (resonantly enhanced) electron states are investigated by solving the KG equation, minimally coupled to the EM field. The restricted class of solutions, that propagate in phase with EM radiation (functions only of $ζ=ωt-kz$), are explored to serve as a possible basis for the proposed electron energization in the radio pulsars. We show that the wave-wave resonant energization mechanism could be operative in a broad class of radio pulsars with periods ranging from milliseconds to the normal values ($\sim 1$ sec); it could drive the magnetospheric electrons to acquire energies from $100$s of TeVs (millisecond pulsars) to $10$ ZeVs (normal pulsars).

Magnetocentrifugal mechanism of pair creation in AGN

In the manuscript, we study the efficiency of pair creation by means of the centrifugal mechanism. The strong magnetic field and the effects of rotation, which always take place in Kerr-type black holes, guarantee the frozen-in condition, leading to the generation of an exponentially amplifying electrostatic field. This field, when reaching the Schwinger threshold, leads to efficient pair production. The process has been studied for a wide range of AGN luminosities and black hole masses, and it was found that the mechanism is very efficient, indicating that for AGNs where centrifugal effects are significant, the annihilation lines in the MeV range will be very strong.
