Dividend problem with Parisian delay for a spectrally negative Lévy risk process

In this paper we consider dividend problem for an insurance company whose risk evolves as a spectrally negative Lévy process (in the absence of dividend payments) when Parisian delay is applied. The objective function is given by the cumulative discounted dividends received until the moment of ruin when so-called barrier strategy is applied. Additionally we will consider two possibilities of delay. In the first scenario ruin happens when the surplus process stays below zero longer than fixed amount of time $ζ>0$. In the second case there is a time lag $d$ between decision of paying dividends and its implementation.

Quasi-stationary workload in a Lévy-driven storage system

In this paper we analyze the quasi-stationary workload of a Lévy-driven storage system. More precisely, assuming the system is in stationarity, we study its behavior conditional on the event that the busy period $T$ in which time 0 is contained has not ended before time $t$, as $t\to\infty$. We do so by first identifying the double Laplace transform associated with the workloads at time 0 and time $t$, on the event $\{T>t\}.$ This transform can be explicitly computed for the case of spectrally one-sided jumps. Then asymptotic techniques for Laplace inversion are relied upon to find the corresponding behavior in the limiting regime that $t\to\infty.$ Several examples are treated; for instance in the case of Brownian input, we conclude that the workload distribution at time 0 and $t$ are both Erlang(2).

Occupation densities in solving exit problems for Markov additive processes and their reflections

This paper solves exit problems for spectrally negative Markov additive processes and their reflections. A so-called scale matrix, which is a generalization of the scale function of a spectrally negative \levy process, plays a central role in the study of exit problems. Existence of the scale matrix was shown in Thm. 3 of Kyprianou and Palmowski (2008). We provide a probabilistic construction of the scale matrix, and identify the transform. In addition, we generalize to the MAP setting the relation between the scale function and the excursion (height) measure. The main technique is based on the occupation density formula and even in the context of fluctuations of spectrally negative Lévy processes this idea seems to be new. Our representation of the scale matrix $W(x)=e^{-Λx}\eL(x)$ in terms of nice probabilistic objects opens up possibilities for further investigation of its properties.

On Time Reversal of Piecewise Deterministic Markov Processes

We study the time reversal of a general PDMP. The time reversed process is defined as $X_{(T-t)-}$, where $T$ is some given time and $X_t$ is a stationary PDMP. We obtain the parameters of the reversed process, like the jump intensity and the jump measure.

Loss rate for a general Lévy process with downward periodic barrier

In this paper we consider a general Lévy process $X$ reflected at downward periodic barrier $A_t$ and constant upper barrier $K$ giving a process $V^K_t=X_t+L^A_t-L^K_t$. We find the expression for a loss rate defined by $l^K=\mathbb{E} L^K_1$ and identify its asymptotics as $K\to\infty$ when $X$ has light-tailed jumps and $\mathbb{E}X_1<0$.

A Lévy input fluid queue with input and workload regulation

We consider a queuing model with the workload evolving between consecutive i.i.d.\ exponential timers $\{e_q^{(i)}\}_{i=1,2,...}$ according to a spectrally positive Lévy process $Y_i(t)$ that is reflected at zero, and where the environment $i$ equals 0 or 1. When the exponential clock $e_q^{(i)}$ ends, the workload, as well as the Lévy input process, are modified; this modification may depend on the current value of the workload, the maximum and the minimum workload observed during the previous cycle, and the environment $i$ of the Lévy input process itself during the previous cycle. We analyse the steady-state workload distribution for this model. The main theme of the analysis is the systematic application of non-trivial functionals, derived within the framework of fluctuation theory of Lévy processes, to workload and queuing models.

De Finetti's dividend problem and impulse control for a two-dimensional insurance risk process

Consider two insurance companies (or two branches of the same company) that receive premiums at different rates and then split the amount they pay in fixed proportions for each claim (for simplicity we assume that they are equal). We model the occurrence of claims according to a Poisson process. The ruin is achieved when the corresponding two-dimensional risk process first leaves the positive quadrant. We will consider two scenarios of the controlled process: refraction and impulse control. In the first case the dividends are payed out when the two-dimensional risk process exits the fixed region. In the second scenario, whenever the process hits the horizontal line, it is reduced by paying dividends to some fixed point in the positive quadrant where it waits for the next claim to arrive. In both models we calculate the discounted cumulative dividend payments until the ruin. This paper is the first attempt to understand the effect of dependencies of two portfolios on the joint optimal strategy of paying dividends. For example in case of proportional reinsurance one can observe the interesting phenomenon that choice of the optimal barrier depends on the initial reserves. This is in contrast with the one-dimensional Cramér-Lundberg model where the optimal choice of the barrier is uniform for all initial reserves.

Tail behaviour of the area under a random process, with applications to queueing systems, insurance and percolations

The areas under workload process and under queuing process in a single server queue over the busy period have many applications not only in queuing theory but also in risk theory or percolation theory. We focus here on the tail behaviour of distribution of these two integrals. We present various open problems and conjectures, which are supported by partial results for some special cases.

Ruin probability with Parisian delay for a spectrally negative Lévy risk process

In this paper we analyze so-called Parisian ruin probability that happens when surplus process stays below zero longer than fixed amount of time $ζ>0$. We focus on general spectrally negative Lévy insurance risk process. For this class of processes we identify expression for ruin probability in terms of some other quantities that could be possibly calculated explicitly in many models. We find its Cramér-type and convolution-equivalent asymptotics when reserves tends to infinity. Finally, we analyze few explicit examples.

A Lévy input model with additional state-dependent services

We consider a queuing model with the workload evolving between consecutive i.i.d. exponential timers $\{e_q^{(i)}\}_{i=1,2,...}$ according to a spectrally positive Lévy process $Y(t)$ which is reflected at 0. When the exponential clock $e_q^{(i)}$ ends, the additional state-dependent service requirement modifies the workload so that the latter is equal to $F_i(Y(e_q^{(i)}))$ at epoch $e^{(1)}_q+...+e^{(i)}_q$ for some random nonnegative i.i.d. functionals $F_i$. In particular, we focus on the case when $F_i(y)=(B_i-y)^+$, where $\{B_i\}_{i=1,2,...}$ are i.i.d. nonnegative random variables. We analyse the steady-state workload distribution for this model.

Exit problem of a two-dimensional risk process from the quadrant: Exact and asymptotic results

Consider two insurance companies (or two branches of the same company) that divide between them both claims and premia in some specified proportions. We model the occurrence of claims according to a renewal process. One ruin problem considered is that of the corresponding two-dimensional risk process first leaving the positive quadrant; another is that of entering the negative quadrant. When the claims arrive according to a Poisson process, we obtain a closed form expression for the ultimate ruin probability. In the general case, we analyze the asymptotics of the ruin probability when the initial reserves of both companies tend to infinity under a Cramér light-tail assumption on the claim size distribution.

Quantile hedging for an insider

In this paper we consider the problem of the quantile hedging from the point of view of a better informed agent acting on the market. The additional knowledge of the agent is modelled by a filtration initially enlarged by some random variable. By using equivalent martingale measures introduced in Amendinger (2000) and Amendinger, Imkeller and Schweizer (1998) we solve the problem for the complete case, by extending the results obtained in F{ö}llmer and Leukert (1999) to the insider context. Finally, we consider the examples with the explicit calculations within the standard Black-Scholes model.

The probability of exceeding a piecewise deterministic barrier by the heavy-tailed renewal compound process

We analyze the asymptotics of crossing a high piecewise linear barriers by a renewal compound process with the subexponential jumps. The study is motivated by ruin probabilities of two insurance companies (or two branches of the same company) that divide between them both claims and premia in some specified proportions when the initial reserves of both companies tend to infinity.

A two-dimensional ruin problem on the positive quadrant

In this paper we study the joint ruin problem for two insurance companies that divide between them both claims and premia in some specified proportions (modeling two branches of the same insurance company or an insurance and re-insurance company). Modeling the risk processes of the insurance companies by Cramér-Lundberg processes we obtain the Laplace transform in space of the probability that either of the insurance companies is ruined in finite time. Subsequently, for exponentially distributed claims, we derive an explicit analytical expression for this joint ruin probability by explicitly inverting this Laplace transform. We also provide a characterization of the Laplace transform of the joint ruin time.

On the optimal dividend problem for a spectrally negative Lévy process

In this paper we consider the optimal dividend problem for an insurance company whose risk process evolves as a spectrally negative Lévy process in the absence of dividend payments. The classical dividend problem for an insurance company consists in finding a dividend payment policy that maximizes the total expected discounted dividends. Related is the problem where we impose the restriction that ruin be prevented: the beneficiaries of the dividends must then keep the insurance company solvent by bail-out loans. Drawing on the fluctuation theory of spectrally negative Lévy processes we give an explicit analytical description of the optimal strategy in the set of barrier strategies and the corresponding value function, for either of the problems. Subsequently we investigate when the dividend policy that is optimal among all admissible ones takes the form of a barrier strategy.

The probability of exceeding a high boundary on a random time interval for a heavy-tailed random walk

We study the asymptotic probability that a random walk with heavy-tailed increments crosses a high boundary on a random time interval. We use new techniques to extend results of Asmussen [Ann. Appl. Probab. 8 (1998) 354-374] to completely general stopping times, uniformity of convergence over all stopping times and a wide class of nonlinear boundaries. We also give some examples and counterexamples.
