Statistical mechanics of the wave maps equation in dimension 1+1

We study wave maps with values in S^d, defined on the future light cone {|x| <= t}, with prescribed data at the boundary {|x| = t}. Based on the work of Keel and Tao, we prove that the problem is well-posed for locally absolutely continuous boundary data. We design a discrete version of the problem and prove that for every absolutely continuous boundary data, the sequence of solutions of the discretised problem converges to the corresponding continuous wave map as the mesh size tends to 0. Next, we consider the boundary data given by the S^d-valued Brownian motion. We prove that the sequence of solutions of the discretised problems has an accumulation point for the topology of locally uniform convergence. We argue that the resulting random field can be interpreted as the wave-map evolution corresponding to the initial data given by the Gibbs distribution.

Large Deviations for $(1+1)$-dimensional Stochastic Geometric Wave Equation

We consider stochastic wave map equation on real line with solutions taking values in a $d$-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold. We show first that this equation has unique, global, strong in PDE sense, solution in local Sobolev spaces. The main result of the paper is a proof of the Large Deviations Principle for solutions in the case of vanishing noise.

The Stochastic Strichartz estimates and stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equations driven by Lévy noise

We establish a new version of the stochastic Strichartz estimate for the stochastic convolution driven by jump noise which we apply to the stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with nonlinear multiplicative jump noise in the Marcus canonical form. With the help of the deterministic Strichartz estimates, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution to stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $L^2(\RR^n)$ with either focusing or defocusing nonlinearity in the full subcritical range of exponents as in the deterministic case.

Stochastic Navier--Stokes equations on a 3D thin domain

Stochastic Navier--Stokes equations in a thin three-dimensional domain are considered, driven by additive noise. The convergence of martingale solution of the stochastic Navier--Stokes equations in a thin three-dimensional domain to the unique martingale solution of the 2D stochastic Navier--Stokes equations, as the thickness of the film vanishes, is established. Hence, we justify the approximation of 3D Navier--Stokes equations driven by random forcing by its corresponding two-dimensional setting in applications.

Well-Posedness of the 3D Stochastic Primitive Equations with Transport Noise

We show that that the stochastic 3D primitive equations with either the physical boundary conditions or Neumann boundary conditions on the top and bottom and Dirichlet boundary condition on the sides driven by multiplicative gradient-dependent white noise have unique maximal strong solutions both in stochastic and PDE sense under certain assumptions on the growth of the noise. For the latter boundary conditions global existence is established using an argument based on decomposition of vertical velocity to barotropic and baroclinic modes and an iterated stopping time argument. An explicit example of non-trivial infinite dimensional noise depending on the vertical average of the horizontal gradient of horizontal velocity is presented.

Stochastic Navier-Stokes equations on a thin spherical domain

Incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on a thin spherical domain $Q_\varepsilon$ along with free boundary conditions under a random forcing are considered. The convergence of the martingale solution of these equations to the martingale solution of the stochastic Navier-Stokes equations on a sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$ as the thickness converges to zero is established.

Stochastic tamed Navier-Stokes equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$:existence, uniqueness of solution and existence of an invariant measure

Röckner and Zhang in [27] proved the existence of a unique strong solution to a stochastic tamed 3D Navier-Stokes equation in the whole space and for the periodic boundary case using a result from [31]. In the latter case, they also proved the existence of an invariant measure. In this paper, we improve their results (but for a slightly simplified system) using a self-contained approach. In particular, we generalise their result about an estimate on the $L^4-$norm of the solution from the torus to $\mathbb{R}^3$, see Lemma 5.1 and thus establish the existence of an invariant measure on $\mathbb{R}^3$ for a time-homogeneous damped tamed 3D Navier-Stokes equation, given by (6.1).

Stochastic Camassa-Holm equation with convection type noise

We consider a stochastic Camassa-Holm equation driven by a one-dimensional Wiener process with a first order differential operator as diffusion coefficient. We prove the existence and uniqueness of local strong solutions of this equation. In order to do so, we transform it into a random quasi-linear partial differential equation and apply Kato's operator theory methods. Some of the results have potential to find applications to other nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations.

$\mathbb{L}^p$-solutions for stochastic Navier-Stokes equations with jump noise

We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions of 2D Stochastic Navier-Stokes equation with space irregular jump noise for initial data in certain Sobolev spaces of negative order. Comparing with the Galerkin approximation method, the main advantage of this work is to use an $\mathbb{L}^p$-setting to obtain the solution under much weaker assumptions on the noise and the initial condition.

Maximal inequalities and exponential estimates for stochastic convolutions driven by Lévy-type processes in Banach spaces with application to stochastic quasi-geostrophic equations

We present remarkably simple proofs of Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequalities for stochastic integrals and maximal inequalities for stochastic convolutions in Banach spaces driven by Lévy-type processes. Exponential estimates for stochastic convolutions are obtained and two versions of Itô's formula in Banach spaces are also derived. Based on the obtained maximal inequality, the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions of stochastic quasi-geostrophic equation with Lévy noise is established.

Stochastic Reaction-diffusion Equations Driven by Jump Processes

We establish the existence of weak martingale solutions to a class of second order parabolic stochastic partial differential equations. The equations are driven by multiplicative jump type noise, with a non-Lipschitz multiplicative functional. The drift in the equations contains a dissipative nonlinearity of polynomial growth.

Weak martingale solutions for the stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation driven by pure jump noise

We construct a martingale solution of the stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a multiplicative noise of jump type in the Marcus canonical form. The problem is formulated in a general framework that covers the subcritical focusing and defocusing stochastic NLS in $H^1$ on compact manifolds and on bounded domains with various boundary conditions. The proof is based on a variant of the Faedo-Galerkin method. In the formulation of the approximated equations, finite dimensional operators derived from the Littlewood-Paley decomposition complement the classical orthogonal projections to guarantee uniform estimates. Further ingredients of the construction are tightness criteria in certain spaces of cadlag functions and Jakubowski's generalization of the Skorohod-Theorem to nonmetric spaces.

Stochastic Constrained Navier-Stokes Equations on $\mathbb{T}^2$

We study constrained 2-dimensional Navier-Stokes Equations driven by a multiplicative Gaussian noise in the Stratonovich form. In the deterministic case [4] we showed the existence of global solutions only on a two dimensional torus and hence we concentrated on such a case here. We prove the existence of a martingale solution and later using Schmalfuss idea [20] we show the pathwise uniqueness of the solutions. We also establish the existence of a strong solution using a Yamada-Watanabe type result from Ondreját [17].

Existence of weak martingale solution of Nematic Liquid Crystals driven by Pure Jump Noise

In this work we consider a stochastic evolution equation which describes the system governing the nematic liquid crystals driven by a pure jump noise. The existence of a martingale solution is proved for both 2D and 3D cases. The construction of the solution is based on the classical Faedo-Galerkin approximation, compactness method and the Jakubowski's version of the Skorokhod representation theorem for non-metric spaces. We prove the solution is pathwise unique and further establish the existence of a strong solution in the 2D case.

Stationary solutions for stochastic damped Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb R^d$

We consider the stochastic damped Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb R^d$ ($d=2,3$), assuming as in our previous work [4] that the covariance of the noise is not too regular, so Itô calculus cannot be applied in the space of finite energy vector fields. We prove the existence of an invariant measure when $d=2$ and of a stationary solution when $d=3$.
