Stochastic wave equations with constraints: well-posedness and Smoluchowski-Kramers diffusion approximation

We investigate the well-posedness of a class of stochastic second-order in time damped evolution equations in Hilbert spaces, subject to the constraint that the solution lie within the unitary sphere. Then, we focus on a specific example, the stochastic damped wave equation in a bounded domain of a $d$-dimensional Euclidean space, endowed with the Dirichlet boundary condition, with the added constraint that the $L^2$-norm of the solution is equal to one. We introduce a small mass $μ>0$ in front of the second-order derivative in time and examine the validity of a Smoluchowski-Kramers diffusion approximation. We demonstrate that, in the small mass limit, the solution converges to the solution of a stochastic parabolic equation subject to the same constraint. We further show that an extra noise-induced drift emerges, which in fact does not account for the Stratonovich-to-Itô correction term.

Fractional Voigt-regularization of the 3D Navier--Stokes and Euler equations: Global well-posedness and limiting behavior

The Voigt regularization is a technique used to model turbulent flows, offering advantages such as sharing steady states with the Navier-Stokes equations and requiring no modification of boundary conditions; however, the parabolic dissipative character of the equation is lost. In this work we propose and study a generalization of the Voigt regularization technique by introducing a fractional power $r$ in the Helmholtz operator, which allows for dissipation in the system, at least in the viscous case. We examine the resulting fractional Navier-Stokes-Voigt (fNSV) and fractional Euler-Voigt (fEV) and show that global well-posedness holds in the 3D periodic case for fNSV when the fractional power $r \geq \frac{1}{2}$ and for fEV when $r>\frac{5}{6}$. Moreover, we show that the solutions of these fractional Voigt-regularized systems converge to solutions of the original equations, on the corresponding time interval of existence and uniqueness of the latter, as the regularization parameter $α\to 0$. Additionally, we prove convergence of solutions of fNSV to solutions of fEV as the viscosity $ν\to 0$ as well as the convergence of solutions of fNSV to solutions of the 3D Euler equations as both $α, ν\to 0$. Furthermore, we derive a criterion for finite-time blow-up for each system based on this regularization. These results may be of use to researchers in both pure and applied fluid dynamics, particularly in terms of approximate models for turbulence and as tools to investigate potential blow-up of solutions.

Existence of a unique solution and invariant measures for the stochastic Landau--Lifshitz--Bloch equation

The Landau--Lifshitz--Bloch equation perturbed by a space-dependent noise was proposed in Garanin 1991 as a model for evolution of spins in ferromagnatic materials at the full range of temperatures, including the temperatures higher than the Curie temperature. In the case of a ferromagnet filling a bounded domain $D\subset \mathbb R^d$, $d=1,2,3$, we show the existence of strong (in the sense of PDEs) martingale solutions. Furthermore, in cases $d=1,2$ we prove uniqueness of pathwise solutions and the existence of invariant measures.

Some results on the penalised nematic liquid crystals driven by multiplicative noise

In this paper we prove several results related to the existence and uniqueness of solution to coupled highly nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations (PDEs). These equations are motivated by the dynamics of nematic liquid crystals under the influence of stochastic external forces. Firstly, we prove the existence of global weak solution (in sense of both stochastic analysis and PDEs). We show the pathwise uniqueness of the solution in 2D domain. Secondly, we establish the existence and uniqueness of local maximal solution which is strong in sense of both PDEs and stochastic analysis. In the 2D case, we show that this solution is global. In contrast to several works in the deterministic setting we replace the Ginzburg-Landau function ${1}_{\lvert \mathbf{n}\rvert \le 1}(\lvert \mathbf{n}\rvert^2-1)\mathbf{n}$ by a general polynomial $f(\mathbf{n})$ and we give sufficient conditions on the polynomial $f$ for the aforementioned results to hold. As a by-product of our investigation we present a general method based on fixed point argument to establish the existence and uniqueness of a local maximal solution of an abstract stochastic evolution equations with coefficients satisfying local Lipschitz condition involving the norms of two different Banach spaces. This general method can be used to treat several stochastic hydrodynamical models such as Navier-Stokes, Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations, and the $α$-models of Navier-Stokes equations and their MHD counterparts.

Conservative interacting particles system with anomalous rate of ergodicity

We analyze certain conservative interacting particle system and establish ergodicity of the system for a family of invariant measures. Furthermore, we show that convergence rate to equilibrium is exponential. This result is of interest because it presents counterexample to the standard assumption of physicists that conservative system implies polynomial rate of convergence.
