Design and simulation of the High-Energy Proton Beam Telescope

A high-resolution beam telescope is essential for the precise characterization of silicon pixel sensors. As part of the CSNS-II upgrade project, a High-Energy Proton Beam Telescope (HEPTel) based on monolithic active pixel sensors (MAPS) has been designed for the forthcoming High-Energy Proton Experimental Station (HPES), which will provide 0.8 to 1.6 GeV single-particle proton beams. HEPTel consists of six ultra-thin telescope modules, with a material budget per module of about 0.061% X0. Simulated with a 1.6 GeV proton beam, the telescope is expected to achieve a resolution of about 1.83 micrometers. Additionally, a dedicated readout electronics system and a Data Acquisition (DAQ) system have been designed for HEPTel, based on which a preliminary test system was established for beam tests. The beam test results with 1.3 GeV electrons demonstrated a single-module resolution of about 5.77 micrometers, an overall telescope resolution of about 2.70 micrometers, and a detection efficiency above 99.5%. These results validate the HEPTel design and confirm its capability for forthcoming proton-beam experiments at HPES.

Stories That Teach: Eastern Wisdom for Human-AI Creative Partnerships

This workshop explores innovative human-AI collaboration methodologies in HCI visual storytelling education through our established "gap-and-fill" approach. Drawing on Eastern aesthetic philosophies of intentional emptiness, including Chinese negative-space traditions, Japanese "ma" concepts, and contemporary design minimalism, we demonstrate how educators can teach students to maintain creative agency while strategically leveraging AI assistance. During this workshop, participants will experience a structured three-phase methodology: creating a human-led narrative foundation, identifying strategic gaps, and collaborating on AI enhancements. The workshop combines theoretical foundations with intensive hands-on practice, enabling participants to create compelling HCI visual narratives that demonstrate effective human-AI partnership. Through sequential art techniques, storyboarding exercises, and guided AI integration, attendees learn to communicate complex interactive concepts, accessibility solutions, and user experience flows while preserving narrative coherence and creative vision. Building on our successful workshops at ACM C&C 2025, this session specifically addresses the needs of the Chinese HCI community for culturally informed and pedagogically sound approaches to AI integration in creative education.

I Prompt, it Generates, we Negotiate. Exploring Text-Image Intertextuality in Human-AI Co-Creation of Visual Narratives with VLMs

Creating meaningful visual narratives through human-AI collaboration requires understanding how text-image intertextuality emerges when textual intentions meet AI-generated visuals. We conducted a three-phase qualitative study with 15 participants using GPT-4o to investigate how novices navigate sequential visual narratives. Our findings show that users develop strategies to harness AI's semantic surplus by recognizing meaningful visual content beyond literal descriptions, iteratively refining prompts, and constructing narrative significance through complementary text-image relationships. We identified four distinct collaboration patterns and, through fsQCA's analysis, discovered three pathways to successful intertextual collaboration: Educational Collaborator, Technical Expert, and Visual Thinker. However, participants faced challenges, including cultural representation gaps, visual consistency issues, and difficulties translating narrative concepts into visual prompts. These findings contribute to HCI research by providing an empirical account of \textit{text-image intertextuality} in human-AI co-creation and proposing design implications for role-based AI assistants that better support iterative, human-led creative processes in visual storytelling.

Plant-Centric Metaverse: A Biocentric-Creation Framework for Ecological Art and Digital Symbiosis

Digital ecological art represents an emergent frontier where biological media converge with virtual environments. This study examines the paradigm shift from anthropocentric to plant-centered artistic narratives within the metaverse, contextualizing how digital platforms transform ecological expression. However, current frameworks fail to systematically guide artists in leveraging plant agency for digital symbiosis that transcends human-centered creation. We propose the Biocentric-Creation Transformation Ideology (BCTI) framework and validate it through multimodal case studies spanning bio-art, NFTs, and VR ecosystems (2013-2023). Our analysis reveals: (1) Metaverse ecosystems enable unprecedented plant-algorithm co-creation, with biological artworks increasing by 133% in premier archives (2020 vs 2013); (2) Digital symbiosis manifests through blockchain DAOs where plants govern human-plant collaborations; (3) Algorithmic photosynthesis in VR environments reshapes ecological aesthetics through real-time biodata translation. The BCTI framework advances ecological art theory by systematizing the transition from representation to plant-centered agency, offering artists a blueprint for post-anthropocene creation. This redefines environmental consciousness in virtual realms while establishing new protocols for cross-species digital collaboration.

Human and Machine as Seen at the Co-Creation Age: A Co-Word Analysis in Human Machine Co-creation (2014-2024)

This paper explores the evolving landscape of human-machine co-creation, focusing on its development in the context of the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) from 2014 to 2024. We employ co-word analysis to identify emerging trends, central themes, and the intellectual trajectory of this field. The study highlights the shift from viewing machines as mere tools to recognizing them as collaborative partners in creative processes. By understanding these dynamics, we aim to provide insights into the implications of this paradigm shift for creativity, innovation, and societal impact, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and effective approach to human-machine interaction in various domains.

CyanKitten: AI-Driven Markerless Motion Capture for Improved Elderly Well-Being

This paper introduces CyanKitten, an interactive virtual companion system tailored for elderly users, integrating advanced posture recognition, behavior recognition, and multimodal interaction capabilities. The system utilizes a three-tier architecture to process and interpret user movements and gestures, leveraging a dual-camera setup and a convolutional neural network trained explicitly on elderly movement patterns. The behavior recognition module identifies and responds to three key interactive gestures: greeting waves, petting motions, and heart-making gestures. A multimodal integration layer also combines visual and audio inputs to facilitate natural and intuitive interactions. This paper outlines the technical implementation of each component, addressing challenges such as elderly-specific movement characteristics, real-time processing demands, and environmental adaptability. The result is an engaging and accessible virtual interaction experience designed to enhance the quality of life for elderly users.

What's Next? Exploring Utilization, Challenges, and Future Directions of AI-Generated Image Tools in Graphic Design

Recent advancements in artificial intelligence, such as computer vision and deep learning, have led to the emergence of numerous generative AI platforms, particularly for image generation. However, the application of AI-generated image tools in graphic design has not been extensively explored. This study conducted semi-structured interviews with seven designers of varying experience levels to understand their current usage, challenges, and future functional needs for AI-generated image tools in graphic design. As our findings suggest, AI tools serve as creative partners in design, enhancing human creativity, offering strategic insights, and fostering team collaboration and communication. The findings provide guiding recommendations for the future development of AI-generated image tools, aimed at helping engineers optimize these tools to better meet the needs of graphic designers.

VR PreM+ : An Immersive Pre-learning Branching Visualization System for Museum Tours

We present VR PreM+, an innovative VR system designed to enhance web exploration beyond traditional computer screens. Unlike static 2D displays, VR PreM+ leverages 3D environments to create an immersive pre-learning experience. Using keyword-based information retrieval allows users to manage and connect various content sources in a dynamic 3D space, improving communication and data comparison. We conducted preliminary and user studies that demonstrated efficient information retrieval, increased user engagement, and a greater sense of presence. These findings yielded three design guidelines for future VR information systems: display, interaction, and user-centric design. VR PreM+ bridges the gap between traditional web browsing and immersive VR, offering an interactive and comprehensive approach to information acquisition. It holds promise for research, education, and beyond.

AI Nushu: An Exploration of Language Emergence in Sisterhood -Through the Lens of Computational Linguistics

This paper presents "AI Nushu," an emerging language system inspired by Nushu (women's scripts), the unique language created and used exclusively by ancient Chinese women who were thought to be illiterate under a patriarchal society. In this interactive installation, two artificial intelligence (AI) agents are trained in the Chinese dictionary and the Nushu corpus. By continually observing their environment and communicating, these agents collaborate towards creating a standard writing system to encode Chinese. It offers an artistic interpretation of the creation of a non-western script from a computational linguistics perspective, integrating AI technology with Chinese cultural heritage and a feminist viewpoint.

Embodied Cognition Guides Virtual-Real Interaction Design to Help Yicheng Flower Drum Intangible Cultural Heritage Dissemination

In order to make the non-heritage culture of Yicheng Flower Drum more relevant to the trend of the digital era and promote its dissemination and inheritance, the design and application of gesture recognition and virtual reality technologies guided by embodied cognition theory in the process of non-heritage culture dissemination is studied. At the same time, it will enhance the interaction between people and NRM culture, stimulate the audience's interest in understanding NRM and spreading NRM, and create awareness of preserving NRM culture. Using embodied cognition as a theoretical guide, expanding the unidirectional communication mode through human-computer interaction close to natural behavior and cooperating with multisensory information reception channels, so as to construct an embodied and immersive interactive atmosphere for the participants and enable them to naturally form the cognition and understanding of the traditional culture in the process of interaction. The dissemination of the non-heritage culture Yicheng Flower Drum can take the theory of embodied cognition as an entry point, and through the virtual and real scenes of Yicheng Flower Drum and the immersive experience, we can empower the interaction design of non-heritage culture dissemination of the virtual and real, and provide a new method for the research of digital design of non-heritage culture.

Exploring the Intersection of Complex Aesthetics and Generative AI for Promoting Cultural Creativity in Rural China after the Post-Pandemic Era

This paper explores using generative AI and aesthetics to promote cultural creativity in rural China amidst COVID-19's impact. Through literature reviews, case studies, surveys, and text analysis, it examines art and technology applications in rural contexts and identifies key challenges. The study finds artworks often fail to resonate locally, while reliance on external artists limits sustainability. Hence, nurturing grassroots "artist villagers" through AI is proposed. Our approach involves training machine learning on subjective aesthetics to generate culturally relevant content. Interactive AI media can also boost tourism while preserving heritage. This pioneering research puts forth original perspectives on the intersection of AI and aesthetics to invigorate rural culture. It advocates holistic integration of technology and emphasizes AI's potential as a creative enabler versus replacement. Ultimately, it lays the groundwork for further exploration of leveraging AI innovations to empower rural communities. This timely study contributes to growing interest in emerging technologies to address critical issues facing rural China.

Inspire creativity with ORIBA: Transform Artists' Original Characters into Chatbots through Large Language Model

This research delves into the intersection of illustration art and artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on how illustrators engage with AI agents that embody their original characters (OCs). We introduce 'ORIBA', a customizable AI chatbot that enables illustrators to converse with their OCs. This approach allows artists to not only receive responses from their OCs but also to observe their inner monologues and behavior. Despite the existing tension between artists and AI, our study explores innovative collaboration methods that are inspiring to illustrators. By examining the impact of AI on the creative process and the boundaries of authorship, we aim to enhance human-AI interactions in creative fields, with potential applications extending beyond illustration to interactive storytelling and more.

Decentralized Governance for Virtual Community(DeGov4VC): Optimal Policy Design of Human-plant Symbiosis Co-creation

Does the decentralized nature of user behavior in interactive virtual communities help create rules promoting user engagement? Through scenarios like planting, this framework suggests a new paradigm for mutual influence that allows users to impact communities' political decisions. Sixteen participants in the first round of interviews were involved in the framework's creation. Then we developed and implemented our framework in the community with the help of other stakeholders. This proof-of-concept creates user groups using information from users' daily activities as input and grows the green plants in a virtual environment. Finally, we involved AI agents and stakeholders in the framework test and iterations. Our study's user evaluation of a few key stakeholders demonstrates how our strategy enhances user viscosity and experience. Via human-planting ecosystems in a virtual community, this research gives a fresh viewpoint on decentralized governance and an engaging method for co-creating interactive ecological communities.

Tangible Web: An Interactive Immersion Virtual RealityCreativity System that Travels Across Reality

With the advancement of virtual reality (VR) technology, virtual displays have become integral to how museums, galleries, and other tourist destinations present their collections to the public. However, the current lack of immersion in virtual reality displays limits the user's ability to experience and appreciate its aesthetics. This paper presents a case study of a creative approach taken by a tourist attraction venue in developing a physical network system that allows visitors to enhance VR's aesthetic aspects based on environmental parameters gathered by external sensors. Our system was collaboratively developed through interviews and sessions with twelve stakeholder groups interested in art and exhibitions. This paper demonstrates how our technological advancements in interaction, immersion, and visual attractiveness surpass those of earlier virtual display generations. Through multimodal interaction, we aim to encourage innovation on the Web and create more visually appealing and engaging virtual displays. It is hoped that the greater online art community will gain fresh insight into how people interact with virtual worlds as a result of this work.

Decentralized, not Dehumanized in the Metaverse: Bringing Utility to NFTs through Multimodal Interaction

User Interaction for NFTs (Non-fungible Tokens) is gaining increasing attention. Although NFTs have been traditionally single-use and monolithic, recent applications aim to connect multimodal interaction with human behaviour. This paper reviews the related technological approaches and business practices in NFT art. We highlight that multimodal interaction is a currently under-studied issue in mainstream NFT art, and conjecture that multimodal interaction is a crucial enabler for decentralization in the NFT community. We propose a framework that combines a bottom-up approach with AI multimodal process. Through this framework, we put forward integrating human behaviour data into generative NFT units, as "multimodal interactive NFT". Our work displays the possibilities of NFTs in the art world, beyond the traditional 2D and 3D static content.
