Magnetization and Magnetic Field-Induced Correction: Implications for QGP Thermal Photon Production in Magnetohydrodynamic

We investigate thermal photon emission from magnetized quark-gluon plasma (QGP) within (1+1)-dimensional relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), systematically incorporating magnetic susceptibility $χ_m$---encompassing both constant and lattice-QCD-derived temperature-dependent $χ_m(T)$ parametrizations---and weak-field quantum corrections to quark distribution functions $f_{\rm EM}$. Employing the Pu-Bjorken MHD framework, we calculate photon production rates from Compton scattering, $q\bar{q}$ annihilation, bremsstrahlung, and annihilation with rescattering, and integrate these over the QGP spacetime evolution to obtain transverse momentum ($p_T$) spectra. Our results demonstrate that photon yields are predominantly governed by the initial magnetic field strength and its temporal decay profile, with $χ_m$ exerting negligible influence in the explored parameter space. In contrast, the weak-field correction $f_{\rm EM}$ induces a distinct enhancement in thermal photon production at intermediate $p_T$. This work establishes a rigorous theoretical framework for quantifying electromagnetic observables in magnetized QGP and provides the foundation for future dissipative MHD studies incorporating spin-magnetization dynamics.

Hyperon polarization in isobaric Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV: TRENRo3D + CLVisc with an initial longitudinal flow gradient

We present a theoretical study of global and azimuthal-angle-dependent $Λ$ hyperon polarization in isobaric $^{96}_{40}$Zr+$^{96}_{40}$Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$~GeV using the TRENTo3D initial condition model coupled to the (3+1)-D viscous hydrodynamic model CLVisc. A longitudinal flow velocity gradient, controlled by $f_v$, is introduced into TRENTo3D for the first time, providing an essential source of initial vorticity in this symmetric isobaric system. Within the isothermal polarization framework, the model provides a simultaneous description of STAR measurements of the global polarization $-P^{y}$ (centrality, $p_T$, and $η$ dependences) and the azimuthal modulation coefficients $P_{y,\mathrm{c0}}$ and $P_{y,\mathrm{c2}}$. The $p_T$ dependence reflects the competition between thermal vorticity and shear contributions: the thermal term decreases with $p_T$, while the shear term rises and increasingly shapes the curvature of the total polarization. In this decomposition, $P_{y,\mathrm{c2}}$ is dominantly shear-driven and serves as a clean probe of shear-induced polarization. Scans of $f_v$, $k_T$, and nuclear structure provide complementary constraints on the initial state, while the bulk-viscosity dependence is also examined; the five nuclear structure configurations from the STAR isobar blind analysis yield nearly indistinguishable polarization. For $P_z$, the isothermal scenario captures the azimuthal modulation but overpredicts the high-$p_T$ modulation amplitude, and comparison with the standard thermal treatment shows that neither scenario achieves a unified description of all observables.

Initial spin fluctuations as a probe of cluster spin structure in $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ and $^{20}\mathrm{Ne}$ nuclei

We investigate the imprint of $α$ clustering on initial spin fluctuations in relativistic $^{16}\mathrm{O}+{}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ and $^{20}\mathrm{Ne}+{}^{20}\mathrm{Ne}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.36$~TeV. Utilizing \textit{ab initio} configurations from Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory (NLEFT) and phenomenological $α$-cluster models within a Monte-Carlo Glauber framework, we compute the event-by-event variance of the initial net spin polarization. We find that the strong short-range spin--isospin correlations characteristic of $α$ clusters lead to a significant suppression of spin fluctuations compared to a spherical Woods--Saxon baseline with uncorrelated spins. By constructing a scaled fluctuation observable that accounts for trivial finite-size effects, we demonstrate that this suppression exhibits a non-monotonic centrality dependence sensitive to the detailed cluster geometry. Furthermore, we propose the ratio of scaled spin fluctuations between $^{20}\mathrm{Ne}$ and $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ systems as a robust probe. Our results predict distinct percent-level deviations from the baseline for clustered nuclei, suggesting that measurements of final-state $Λ$-hyperon spin correlations can provide novel constraints on the ground-state spin structure of light nuclei.

Thermal photon emission from quark-gluon plasma: 1+1D magnetohydrodynamics results

We investigate thermal photon production in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) under strong magnetic fields using a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) framework. Adopting the Bjorken flow model with power-law decaying magnetic fields $\mathbf{B}(τ) = \mathbf{B}_0 (τ_0/τ)^a$ (where $a$ controls the decay rate, $B_0 = \sqrtσ T_0^2$, and $σ$ characterizes the initial field strength), we employ relativistic ideal fluid dynamics under the non-resistive approximation. The resulting QGP temperature evolution exhibits distinct $a$- and $σ$-dependent behaviors. Thermal photon production rates are calculated for three dominant processes: Compton scattering with $q\bar{q}$ annihilation (C+A), bremsstrahlung (Brems), and $q\bar{q}$ annihilation with additional scattering (A+S). These rates are integrated over the space-time volume to obtain the photon transverse momentum $(p_T)$ spectrum. Our results demonstrate that increasing $a$ enhances photon yields across all $p_T$, with $a \to \infty$ (super-fast decay) providing an upper bound. For $a = 2/3$, larger $σ$ suppresses yields through accelerated cooling, whereas for $a \to \infty$, larger $σ$ enhances yields via prolonged thermal emission. Low-$p_T$ photons receive significant contributions from all QGP evolution stages, while high-$p_T$ photons originate predominantly from early times. The central rapidity region $(y=0)$ dominates the total yield. This work extends photon yield studies to the MHD regime under strong magnetic fields, elucidating magnetic field effects on QGP electromagnetic signatures and establishing foundations for future investigations of magnetization and dissipative phenomena.

Left-right splitting of elliptic flow in heavy ion collisions: TRENTo-3D initialization and CLVisc hydrodynamic simulations

Using the TRENTo-3D initial condition model coupled with (3+1)-dimensional CLVisc hydrodynamic simulations, we systematically investigate the left-right splitting of elliptic flow ($Δv_{2}$) for soft particles in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Our study reveals that the final distribution characteristics of $Δv_{2}$ are primarily depend on the odd flow harmonics and $v_{2}$ itself. We find that the parton transverse momentum scale $k_\mathrm{T}$ not only determines the geometric tilt of the QGP fireball but also significantly affects the rapidity dependence of both $v_1$ and $Δv_{2}$, providing new insights into the splitting mechanism of $Δv_{2}$. Furthermore, our results demonstrate that $Δv_{2} (p_\mathrm{T})$ exhibits significant sensitivity to influences such as the sub-nucleonic degrees of freedom (or `hotspots'), transverse momentum scale, and fragmentation region profile. By analyzing the $Δv_{2}$ and $Δv_{2}/v_{2}$ ratio, our findings provide new constraints on the uncertainties of the QGP initial state and provide additional constraints for refining model parameters.

Generalized relativistic second-order spin hydrodynamics from Zubarev's non-equilibrium statistical operator

Inspired by the work in Ref.[1], which considers the additional second-order contributions arising from nonlocal corrections due to two-point correlation functions of tensors of different ranks at distinct spacetime points, we similarly employ the nonequilibrium statistical operator method to extend this framework to include spin degrees of freedom. In addition to obtaining analogous extra second-order terms in the shear stress tensor, bulk viscous pressure, and charge diffusion currents resulting from such contributions, we further derive additional second-order terms originating from the same mechanism in the charge diffusion currents, rotational stress tensor and the boost heat vector. Furthermore, we express all transport coefficients represented by two-point or three-point correlations in terms of retarded Green's functions.

1+1 dimensional relativistic viscous non-resistive magnetohydrodynamics with longitudinal boost invariance

We study 1+1 dimensional relativistic non-resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) with longitudinal boost invariance and shear stress tensor. Several analytical solutions that describe the fluid temperature evolution under the equation of state (EoS) $\varepsilon=3p$ are derived, relevant to relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Extending the Victor-Bjorken ideal MHD flow to include non-zero shear viscosity, two perturbative analytical solutions for the first-order (Navier-Stokes) approximation are obtained. For small, power-law evolving external magnetic fields, our solutions are stable and show that both magnetic field and shear viscosity cause fluid heating with an early temperature peak, align with the numerical results. In the second-order (Israel-Stewart) theory, our findings show that the combined presence of magnetic field and shear viscosity leads to a slow cooling rate of fluid temperature, with initial shear stress significantly affecting temperature evolution of QGP.

Non-extensive (3+1)-dimensional hydrodynamics for relativistic heavy-ion collisions

A non-extensive (3+1)-dimensional hydrodynamic model for multi-particle production processes, NEX-CLVisc, is developed in the framework of CLVisc where the viscous corrections are turned off. It assumes that the non-extensive effects consistently exist in the initial conditions set by the optical Glauber model, the equation of state and the hadron kinetic freeze-out procedure. The model is then applied to simulate the pseudo-rapidity ($η$) distribution, the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectra and the $p_{\rm T}$-differential elliptic flow ($v_2$) of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=$ 2.76 TeV and 5.02 TeV, respectively. It is found that the model can reasonably well reproduce the experimental data of the $η$ distribution and the charged-particle spectra in a $p_{\rm T}$ range up to 6-8 GeV/c. When compared with the ideal hydrodynamic model, the $p_{\rm T}$-differential $v_2$ of charged particles is suppressed in the NEX-CLVisc model, which is similar to that observed in the hydrodynamic model with a shear viscous correction. Moreover, due to the lack of the viscous corrections and the event-by-event fluctuation, the model can only describe the $p_{\rm T}$-differential $v_2$ up to 3-4 GeV/c, which is smaller than its applicable range for the particle $p_{\rm T}$ spectra.

Modified Trento initial condition and its impact on collective flows and global polarization in Cu+Au collisions

Collective flow coefficients and spin polarization are valuable probes of the geometry and flow velocity field of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Using a modified TRENTo initial condition coupled to a (3+1)-dimensional (D) viscous hydrodynamic model CLVisc, we study the directed flow and elliptic flow coefficients of hadrons, together with the global polarization of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons in asymmetric Cu+Au collisions. We extend the 2D TRENTo model to the 3D space, and find that the initial tilted geometry of the QGP fireball with respect to the longitudinal direction leads to a decrease of directed flow from positive to negative values with increasing pseudorapidity, an enhancement of elliptic flow at forward and backward pseudorapidities, and a non-monotonic dependence of global polarization on the transverse momentum of hyperons. The initial longitudinal flow velocity gradient further enhances the values of directed flow and global polarization. Our model calculation provides a satisfactory description of the rapidity, transverse momentum, and centrality dependences of the directed flow of charged hadrons in Cu+Au collisions for the first time, and proposes that such asymmetric heavy-ion collisions create a better environment for studying the initial tilted geometry and longitudinal flow field of the QGP than symmetric Au+Au collisions do.

External magnetic field induced paramagnetic squeezing effect in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC

In non-central heavy-ion collisions, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) encounters the most intense magnetic field ever produced in nature, with a strength of approximately 10$^{19 - 20}$ Gauss. Recent lattice-QCD calculations reveal that the QGP exhibits paramagnetic properties at high temperatures. When an external strong magnetic field is applied, it generates an anisotropic squeezing force density that competes with pressure gradients resulting from the purely QGP geometric expansion. In this study, we employ (3+1)-dimensional ideal hydrodynamics simulations to estimate the paramagnetic squeezing effect of this force density on the anisotropic expansion of QGP in non-central Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We consider both up-to-date magnetic susceptibility and various magnetic field profiles in this work. We find that the impact of rapidly decaying magnetic fields is insignificant, while enduring magnetic fields produce a strong force density that diminishes the momentum anisotropy of the QGP by up to 10% at the intial stage, leaving a visible imprint on the elliptic flow $v_{2}$ of final charged particles. Our results provide insights into the interplay between magnetic fields and the dynamics of QGP expansion in non-central heavy-ion collisions.

Hydrodynamic simulations of directed flow for light hadrons in Au+Au and isobar collisions $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}=$ 200 GeV

Using a (3+1)-D hydrodynamic model CLVisc, we study the directed flow ($v_{1}$) of light hadrons produced in Au+Au, Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}=$ 200 GeV. The evolution of tilted energy density, pressure gradient and radial flow along the $x$-direction are systematically investigated. Counter-clockwise tilt of initial fireball is shown to be a vital source of the directed flow for final light hadrons. A good description of directed flow is provided for light hadrons in central and mid-central Au+Au and isobar collisions at RHIC. Our numerical results show a clear system size dependence for light hadron $v_{1}$ across different collision systems. We further study the effect of nuclear structure on the directed flow and find that the $v_{1}$ for light hadrons is insensitive to the nuclei with quadrupole deformation.

Hyperon polarization and its relation with directed flow in high-energy nuclear collisions

We investigate the hyperon polarization and its relation with the directed flow of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in non-central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} = 27$ GeV. A modified 3-dimensional (3D) Glauber model is developed and coupled to a (3+1)-D viscous hydrodynamic evolution of the QGP. Within this framework, we obtain a satisfactory simultaneous description of the directed flow of identified particles and $Λ$ polarization, and show sensitivity of polarization to both the tilted geometry and the longitudinal flow profile of the QGP. A non-monotonic transverse momentum dependence of the $Λ$ polarization is found in our calculation, which is absent from hydrodynamic simulation using other initialization methods and can be tested by future experimental data with higher precision. The relation between the global polarization and directed flow of $Λ$ is explored as the longitudinal flow field or the medium deformation varies. Due to the common origin of these two observables, their combination may provide a more stringent constraint on the initial condition of the QGP.

Directed flow and global polarization in Au+Au collisions across energies covered by the beam energy scan at RHIC

We study the directed flow of identified particles in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=7.7$ to 62.4 GeV. The Glauber model is extended to include both a tilted deformation of the QGP fireball with respect to the longitudinal direction and a non-zero longitudinal flow velocity gradient in the initial state. By combining this improved initial condition with a (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model calculation, we obtain a satisfactory description of the transverse momentum spectra and the rapidity dependent directed flow coefficient of different hadron species. Our calculation indicates the sensitivity of the hadron directed flow, especially its splitting between protons and antiprotons, to both the initial geometry and the initial longitudinal flow velocity. Therefore, the combination of directed flow of different hadrons can provide a tight constraint on the initial condition of nuclear matter created in heavy-ion collisions. The initial condition extracted from the directed flow is further tested with the global polarization of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ within the same theoretical framework, where we obtain a reasonable description of these hyperon polarization observed at different collision energies at RHIC.

Evolution of global polarization in relativistic heavy-ion collisions within a perturbative approach

Extremely large angular orbital momentum can be produced in non-central heavy-ion collisions, leading to a strong transverse polarization of partons that scatter through the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) due to spin-orbital coupling. We develop a perturbative approach to describe the formation and spacetime evolution of quark polarization inside the QGP. Polarization from both the initial hard scatterings and interactions with the QGP have been consistently described using the quark-potential scattering approach, which has been coupled to realistic initial condition calculation and the subsequent (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic simulation of the QGP for the first time. Within this improved approach, we have found that different spacetime-rapidity-dependent initial energy density distributions generate different time evolution profiles of the longitudinal flow velocity gradient of the QGP, which further lead to an approximately 15% difference in the final polarization of quarks collected on the hadronization hypersurface of the QGP. Therefore, in addition to the collective flow coefficients, the hyperon polarization may serve as a novel tool to help constrain the initial condition of the hot nuclear matter created in high-energy nuclear collisions.

Interactions between heavy quarks and tilted QGP fireballs in 200 AGeV Au+Au collisions

Heavy quark observables are applied to probe the initial energy density distribution with violation of longitudinal boost invariance produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Using an improved Langevin model coupled to a (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model, we study the nuclear modification factor ($R_\text{AA}$), directed flow ($v_1$) and elliptic flow ($v_2$) coefficients of heavy mesons and their decayed electrons at the RHIC energy. We find that the counter-clockwise tilt of the nuclear matter in the reaction plane results in a positive (negative) heavy flavor $v_1$ in the backward (forward) rapidity region, whose magnitude increases with the heavy quark transverse momentum. The difference in the heavy flavor $R_\text{AA}$ between different angular regions is also proposed as a complementary tool to characterize the asymmetry of the medium profile. Our model results are consistent with currently available data at RHIC and provide predictions that can be tested by future measurements.

Probing the initial longitudinal density profile and electromagnetic field in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions with heavy quarks

Heavy quarks are valuable probes of the electromagnetic field and the initial condition of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) matter produced in high-energy nuclear collisions. Within an improved Langevin model that is coupled to a (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model, we explore the origin of the directed flow coefficient ($v_1$) of heavy mesons and their decay leptons, and its splitting ($Δv_{1}$) between opposite charges. We find that while the rapidity dependence of the heavy flavor $v_1$ is mainly driven by the titled energy density profile of the QGP with respect to the longitudinal direction at the RHIC energy, it is dominated by the electromagnetic field at the LHC energy. The $Δv_{1}$ serves as a novel probe of the spacetime evolution profile of the electromagnetic field. Our results of $D$ mesons and their decay electrons are consistent with the available data at RHIC and LHC, and our predictions on the heavy flavor decay muons can be further tested by future measurements.

Longitudinal distribution of initial energy density and directed flow of charged particles in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We study the origin of the directed flow of charged particles produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Three different initial conditions, Boz$\dot{\textrm{e}}$k-Wyskiel, CCNU and Shen-Alzhrani, of energy density distributions are coupled to the (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model CLVisc, and their effects on the development of the anisotropic medium geometry, pressure gradient and radial flow are systematically compared. By comparing to experimental data at both RHIC and LHC, we find that the directed flow provides a unique constraint on the tilt of the initial medium profile in the plane spanned by the impact parameter and space-time rapidity. Within mid-rapidity, the counter-clockwise tilt is shown to be a crucial source of the positive/negative force by the pressure gradient along the impact parameter ($x$) direction at backward/forward rapidity, which drives a negative slope of the $x$ component of the medium flow velocity with respect to rapidity, and in the end the same feature of the charged particle directed flow.

Directed flow of charged particles within idealized viscous hydrodynamics at energies available at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Following the Boz$\dot{\textrm{e}}$k-Wyskiel parametrization tilted initial condition, an alternative way to construct a longitudinal tilted fireball based on the Glauber collision geometry is presented. This longitudinal tilted initial condition combined with the Ideal-CLVisc (3 + 1)D hydrodynamic model, a nonvanishing directed flow coefficient $v_{1}$ in a wide rapidity range is observed. After comparing the model's results with experimentally observed data of directed flow coefficient $v_{1}(η)$ from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV Cu + Cu, Au + Au collisions at RHIC energy to $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV Pb + Pb collisions at the LHC energy. We find that the directed flow measurements in heavy-ion collisions can set strong constraints on the imbalance of forward and backward incoming nuclei and on the magnitude asymmetry of pressure gradients along the $x$ direction.
