Femtomolar-level detection of SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins using toroidal plasmonic metasensors

Effective and efficient management of human betacoronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-CoV-2 infection i.e., COVID-19 pandemic, required sensitive sensors with short sample-to-result durations for performing diagnostics. In this direction, one of appropriate alternative approach to detect SARS-CoV-2 at low level (fmol) is exploring plasmonic metasensor technology for COVID-19 diagnostics, which offers exquisite opportunities in advanced healthcare programs, and modern clinical diagnostics. The intrinsic merits of plasmonic metasensors stem from their capability to squeeze electromagnetic fields, simultaneously in frequency, time, and space. However, the detection of low-molecular weight biomolecules at low densities is a typical drawback of conventional metasensors that has recently been addressed using toroidal metasurface technology. This research reports fabrication of a miniaturized plasmonic immunosensor based on toroidal electrodynamics concept that can sustain robustly confined plasmonic modes with ultranarrow lineshapes in the terahertz (THz) frequencies. By exciting toroidal dipole mode using our quasi-infinite metasurface and a judiciously optimized protocol based on functionalized gold nanoparticles (NPs) conjugated with the specific monoclonal antibody of SARS-CoV-2 onto the metasurface, the resonance shifts for diverse concentrations of the spike protein is monitored. Possessing molecular weight around ~76 kDa allowed us to detect the presence of spike protein with significantly low LoD ~4.2 fmol.

Reversible Gates in Emerging Quantum-dot Cellular Automata Technology: An Innovative Approach to Design and Simulation

Power dissipation is known as the most notable limiting factor in all nano-electronic design techniques including Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA). The familiar reversible computing approach is used as a reasonably reliable solution, mitigating power dissipation. This study presents, a comprehensive multi-objective method for designing R-Fs in emerging QCA technology. The results are investigated in both logical and layout levels, in detail. The results verify that the approach offered in this study has advantage over the most efficient approaches available in the literature by far. This comparison can be made on various parameters ranging from area, complexity (cell amount), delay (clocking zones), and to even logical levels including levels, Control inputs, the number of majority and NOT gates.

Bidirectional Controlled Quantum Teleportation Using Eight-Qubit Quantum Channel in Noisy Environments

In this work, a novel protocol is proposed for bidirectional controlled quantum teleportation (BCQT) in which a quantum channel is used with the eight-qubit entangled state. Using the protocol, two users can teleport an arbitrary entangled state and a pure two-qubit state (QBS) to each other simultaneously under the permission of a third party in the role of controller. This protocol is based on the controlled-not operation, appropriate single-qubit (SIQ) UOs and SIQ measurements in the Z and X-basis. Reduction of the predictability of the controller's qubit (QB) by the eavesdropper and also, an increasing degree of freedom of controller for controlling one of the users or both are other features of this protocol. Then, the proposed protocol is investigated in two typical noisy channels include the amplitude-damping noise (ADN) and the phase-damping noise (PDN). And finally, analysis of the protocol shows that it only depends on the amplitude of the initial state and the decoherence noisy rate (DR).

Ultraprecise Detection of Low Molecular Weight Antibodies Using Mid-IR Toroidal Plasmonic Meta-Atoms

Plasmonic metamaterials can be used to enhance mid-infrared sensors and detectors for immunosensing applications. The major challenge is to integrate these technologies in low-cost, compact, and promising platforms. In this study, as an emerging approach, we utilized toroidal resonant plasmonic metasurfaces to develop an ultrasensitive label-free analytical platform for the detection of specific antibiotics in the mid-IR regime. Taking advantage of unique sensitivity of robustly squeezed electromagnetic fields in toroidal meta-atoms, we validated that our proposed technique based on toroidal metastructures can provide sensing of biological targets with the weight of ~0.6 KDa at attomolar concentrations. We believe that this understanding extends the capabilities of plasmonic metamaterials analyze the presence of specific biological targets with high precision.
