BayTTA: Uncertainty-aware medical image classification with optimized test-time augmentation using Bayesian model averaging

Test-time augmentation (TTA) is a well-known technique employed during the testing phase of computer vision tasks. It involves aggregating multiple augmented versions of input data. Combining predictions using a simple average formulation is a common and straightforward approach after performing TTA. This paper introduces a novel framework for optimizing TTA, called BayTTA (Bayesian-based TTA), which is based on Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA). First, we generate a prediction list associated with different variations of the input data created through TTA. Then, we use BMA to combine predictions weighted by the respective posterior probabilities. Such an approach allows one to take into account model uncertainty, and thus to enhance the predictive performance of the related machine learning or deep learning model. We evaluate the performance of BayTTA on various public data, including three medical image datasets comprising skin cancer, breast cancer, and chest X-ray images and two well-known gene editing datasets, CRISPOR and GUIDE-seq. Our experimental results indicate that BayTTA can be effectively integrated into state-of-the-art deep learning models used in medical image analysis as well as into some popular pre-trained CNN models such as VGG-16, MobileNetV2, DenseNet201, ResNet152V2, and InceptionRes-NetV2, leading to the enhancement in their accuracy and robustness performance. Holographic entanglement first law for d + 1 dimensional rotating cylindrical black holes

We calculate the holographic entanglement entropy for the rotating cylindrical black holes in $d+1$ dimensions as perturbations over $AdS_{d+1}$. This is accomplished based on the first order variation of the area functional in arbitrary dimensions. For these types of black holes, the angular momentum appears at the first order of the perturbative expansion of the holographic entanglement entropy for spacetime dimensions of d +1 $\geq$ 4. We obtain a form of holographic entanglement first law in the presence of both energy and angular momentum.

Holographic entanglement entropy for charged accelerating AdS black holes

We investigate the holographic entanglement entropy in the Rindler-AdS space-time to obtain an exact solution for the corresponding minimal surface. Moreover, the holographic entanglement entropy of the charged single accelerated AdS Black holes in four dimensions is investigated. We obtain the volume of the codimension one-time slice in the bulk geometry enclosed by the minimal surface for both the RindlerAdS space-time and the charged accelerated AdS Black holes in the bulk. It is shown that the holographic entanglement entropy and the volume enclosed by the minimal hyper-surface in both the Rindler spacetime and the charged single accelerated AdS Black holes (C-metric) in the bulk decrease with increasing acceleration parameter. Behavior of the entanglement entropy, subregion size and value of the acceleration parameter are investigated. It is shown that for jAj < 0:2 a larger subregion on the boundary is equivalent to less information about the space-time.

Topological invariants of the Ryu-Takayanagi ($RT$) surface used to observe holographic superconductor phase transition

We study the phase transitions in the metal/superconductor system using topological invariants of the Ryu-Takayanagi ($RT$) surface and the volume enclosed by the $RT$ surface in the Lifshitz black hole background. It is shown that these topological invariant quantities identify not only the phase transition but also its order. According to these findings a discontinuity slope is observed at the critical points for these invariant quantities that correspond to the second order of phase transition. These topological invariants provide a clearer illustration of the superconductor phase transition than do the holographic entanglement entropy and the holographic complexity. Also, the backreaction parameter, $k$, is found to have an important role in distinguishing the critical points. The reducing values of the parameter $k$ means that the backreaction of the matter fields are negligible. A continuous slope is observed around the critical points which is characteristic of the probe limit. In addition, exploring the nonlinear electrodynamic, the effects of the nonlinear parameter, $β$, is investigated. Finally the properties of conductivity are numerically explored in our model.

Exponential nonlinear electrodynamics and backreaction effects on Holographic superconductor in the Lifshitz black hole background

We analytically describe the properties of the s-wave holographic superconductor with the Exponential nonlinear electrodynamics in the Lifshitz black hole background in four-dimensions. Employing an assumption the scalar and gauge fields backreact on the background geometry, we calculate the critical temperature as well as the condensation operator. Based on Sturm-Liouville method, we show that the critical temperature decreases with increasing exponential nonlinear electrodynamics and Lifshitz dynamical exponent, z, indicating that condensation becomes difficult. Also we find that the effects of backreaction has a more important role on the critical temperature and condensation operator in small values of Lifshitz dynamical exponent, while z is around one. In addition, the properties of the upper critical magnetic field in Lifshitz black hole background using Sturm-Liouville approach is investigated to describe the phase diagram of the corresponding holographic superconductor in the prob limit. We observe that the critical magnetic field decreases with increasing Lifshitz dynamical exponent, z, and it goes to zero at critical temperature, independent of the Lifshitz dynamical exponent, z.

Critical behaviors and phase transitions of black holes in higher order gravities and extended phase spaces

We consider the critical behaviors and phase transitions of Gauss Bonnet-Born Infeld-AdS black holes (GB-BI-AdS) for $d=5,6$ and the extended phase space. We assume the cosmological constant, $Λ$, the coupling coefficient $α$, and the BI parameter $β$ to be thermodynamic pressures of the system. Having made these assumptions, the critical behaviors are then studied in the two canonical and grand canonical ensembles. We find "reentrant and triple point phase transitions" (RPT-TP) and "multiple reentrant phase transitions" (multiple RPT) with increasing pressure of the system for specific values of the coupling coefficient $α$ in the canonical ensemble. Also, we observe a reentrant phase transition (RPT) of GB-BI-AdS black holes in the grand canonical ensemble and for $d=6$. These calculations are then expanded to the critical behavior of Born-Infeld-AdS (BI-AdS) black holes in the third order of Lovelock gravity and in the grand canonical ensemble to find a Van der Waals behavior for $d=7$ and a reentrant phase transition for $d=8$ for specific values of potential $ϕ$ in the grand canonical ensemble. Furthermore, we obtain a similar behavior for the limit of $β\to \infty$, i.e charged-AdS black holes in the third order of the Lovelock gravity. Thus, it is shown that the critical behaviors of these black holes are independent of the parameter $β$ in the grand canonical ensemble.

Evolution of cosmological perturbations and the production of non-Gaussianities through a nonsingular bounce: Indications for a no-go theorem in single field matter bounce cosmologies

Assuming that curvature perturbations and gravitational waves originally arise from vacuum fluctuations in a matter-dominated phase of contraction, we study the dynamics of the cosmological perturbations evolving through a nonsingular bouncing phase described by a generic single scalar field Lagrangian minimally coupled to Einstein gravity. In order for such a model to be consistent with the current upper limits on the tensor-to-scalar ratio, there must be an enhancement of the curvature fluctuations during the bounce phase. We show that, while it remains possible to enlarge the amplitude of curvature perturbations due to the nontrivial background evolution, this growth is very limited because of the conservation of curvature perturbations on super-Hubble scales. We further perform a general analysis of the evolution of primordial non-Gaussianities through the bounce phase. By studying the general form of the bispectrum we show that the non-Gaussianity parameter $f_{\mathrm{NL}}$ (which is of order unity before the bounce phase) is enhanced during the bounce phase if the curvature fluctuations grow. Hence, in such nonsingular bounce models with matter given by a single scalar field, there appears to be a tension between obtaining a small enough tensor-to-scalar ratio and not obtaining a value of $f_{\mathrm{NL}}$ in excess of the current upper bounds. This conclusion may be considered as a "no-go" theorem that rules out any single field matter bounce cosmology starting with vacuum initial conditions for the fluctuations.

The Effect of Primordial Non-Gaussianities on the Seeds of Super-Massive Black Holes

The origin of the seeds which develop into the observed super-massive black holes at high redshifts may be hard to interpret in the context of the standard $ΛCDM$ of early universe cosmology based on Gaussian primordial perturbations. Here we consider the modification of the halo mass function obtained by introducing skewness and kurtosis of the primordial fluctuations. We show that such primordial non-Gaussianities constrained by the current observational bounds on the nonlinearity parameters of $f_{NL}$ and $g_{NL}$ are not effective at greatly increasing the number density of seeds which could develop into super-massive black holes at high redshifts. This is to be contrasted with the role which cosmic string loops could play in seeding super-massive black holes.

Phase transitions of hairy black holes in massive gravity and thermodynamic behavior of charged AdS black holes in an extended phase space

We study the thermodynamic behavior of static and spherically symmetric hairy black holes in massive gravity. In this case, the black hole is surrounded in a spherical cavity with a fixed temperature on the surface. It is observed that these black holes have a phase transition similar to the liquid-gas phase transition of a Van der Waals fluid. Also, by treating the cosmological constant $Λ$ as a thermodynamic pressure $P$, we study the thermodynamic behavior of charged anti-de Sitter black holes in an ensemble with a pressure of $P$ and an electric potential $Φ$ as the natural variables. A second order phase transition is observed to take place for all the values of the electric potential $Φ$.

Entropic force, running gravitational coupling and future singularities

The effects of a running gravitational coupling and the entropic force on future singularities are considered. Although it is expected that the quantum corrections remove the future singularities or change the singularity type, treating the running gravitational coupling as a function of energy density is found to cause no change in the type of singularity but causes a delay in the time that a singularity occurs. The entropic force is found to replaces the singularity type $II$ by $\bar{III}$ ($a=$const., $H=$const., $\dot{H} \to \infty$, $p \to \infty$, $ρ\to \infty$) which differs from previously known type $III$ and to remove the $w$-singularity. We also consider an effective cosmological model and show that the types $I$ and $II$ are replaced by the singularity type $III$.

Kerr-AdS analogue of triple point and solid/liquid/gas phase transition

We study the thermodynamic behavior of multi-spinning d=6 Kerr-anti de Sitter black holes in the canonical ensemble of fixed angular momenta J1 and J2. We find, dependent on the ratio q=J2/J1, qualitatively different interesting phenomena known from the `every day thermodynamics' of simple substances. For q=0 the system exhibits recently observed reentrant large/small/large black hole phase transitions, but for 0 0.0985 we observe the `standard liquid/gas behavior' of the Van der Waals fluid.

Thermodynamics of rotating black holes and black rings: phase transitions and thermodynamic volume

In this review we summarize, expand, and set in context recent developments on the thermodynamics of black holes in extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is interpreted as thermodynamic pressure and treated as a thermodynamic variable in its own right. We specifically consider the thermodynamics of higher-dimensional rotating asymptotically flat and AdS black holes and black rings in a canonical (fixed angular momentum) ensemble. We plot the associated thermodynamic potential-the Gibbs free energy-and study its behaviour to uncover possible thermodynamic phase transitions in these black hole spacetimes. We show that the multiply-rotating Kerr-AdS black holes exhibit a rich set of interesting thermodynamic phenomena analogous to the "every day thermodynamics" of simple substances, such as reentrant phase transitions of multicomponent liquids, multiple first-order solid/liquid/gas phase transitions, and liquid/gas phase transitions of the Van der Waals type. Furthermore, the reentrant phase transitions also occur for multiply-spinning asymptotically flat Myers-Perry black holes. The thermodynamic volume, a quantity conjugate to the thermodynamic pressure, is studied for AdS black rings and demonstrated to satisfy the reverse isoperimetric inequality; this provides a first example of calculation confirming the validity of isoperimetric inequality conjecture for a black hole with non-spherical horizon topology. The equation of state P=P(V,T) is studied for various black holes both numerically and analytically-in the ultraspinning and slow rotation regimes.

Phase transition, critical behavior, and critical exponents of Myers-Perry black holes

The critical behavior of Myers-Perry black holes with equal angular momenta in even dimensions are studied. We include the corrections beyond the semiclassical approximation on Hawking temperature in the grand canonical ensemble. Having done so, we find that the critical behavior and critical exponents of Myers-Perry black holes correspond to those of a Van der Waals liquid-gas where this analogy holds in any dimension. Also, using Ehrenfest's equations, we calculate the order of the phase transition in the semiclassical approximation for the canonical ensemble and beyond the semiclassical approximation for the grand canonical ensemble near the critical point. Finally, the Ruppeiner curvature formula is used to investigate the thermodynamic geometry of Myers-Perry black holes.

Corrected entropy of the rotating black hole solution of the new massive gravity using the tunneling method and Cardy formula

We study the AdS rotating black hole solution for the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity in three dimensions. The field equations of the asymptotically AdS black hole of the static metric can be expressed as the first law of thermodynamics, i.e. $dE=TdS-PdV$. The corrected Hawking-like temperature and entropy of asymptotically AdS rotating black hole are calculated using the Cardy formula and the tunneling method. Comparison of these methods will help identify the unknown leading correction parameter $β_1$ in the tunneling method.
