Intelligent driving vehicle front multi-target tracking and detection based on YOLOv5 and point cloud 3D projection

In multi-target tracking and detection tasks, it is necessary to continuously track multiple targets, such as vehicles, pedestrians, etc. To achieve this goal, the system must be able to continuously acquire and process image frames containing these targets. These consecutive frame images enable the algorithm to update the position and state of the target in real-time in each frame of the image. How to accurately associate the detected target with the target in the previous or next frame to form a stable trajectory is a complex problem. Therefore, a multi object tracking and detection method for intelligent driving vehicles based on YOLOv5 and point cloud 3D projection is proposed. Using Retinex algorithm to enhance the image of the environment in front of the vehicle, remove light interference in the image, and build an intelligent detection model based on YOLOv5 network structure. The enhanced image is input into the model, and multiple targets in front of the vehicle are identified through feature extraction and target localization. By combining point cloud 3D projection technology, the correlation between the position changes of adjacent frame images in the projection coordinate system can be inferred. By sequentially projecting the multi-target recognition results of multiple consecutive frame images into the 3D laser point cloud environment, effective tracking of the motion trajectories of all targets in front of the vehicle can be achieved. The experimental results show that the application of this method for intelligent driving vehicle front multi-target tracking and detection yields a MOTA (Tracking Accuracy) value greater than 30, demonstrating its superior tracking and detection performance.

Communication, Sensing and Control integrated Closed-loop System: Modeling, Control Design and Resource Allocation

The wireless communication technologies have fundamentally revolutionized industrial operations. The operation of the automated equipment is conducted in a closed-loop manner, where the status of devices is collected and sent to the control center through the uplink channel, and the control center sends the calculated control commands back to the devices via downlink communication. However, existing studies neglect the interdependent relationship between uplink and downlink communications, and there is an absence of a unified approach to model the communication, sensing, and control within the loop. This can lead to inaccurate performance assessments, ultimately hindering the ability to provide guidance for the design of practical systems. Therefore, this paper introduces an integrated closed-loop model that encompasses sensing, communication, and control functionalities, while addressing the coupling effects between uplink and downlink communications. Through the analysis of system convergence, an inequality pertaining to the performances of sensing, communication, and control is derived. Additionally, a joint optimization algorithm for control and resource allocation is proposed. Simulation results are presented to offer an intuitive understanding of the impact of system parameters. The findings of this paper unveil the intricate correlation among sensing, communication, and control, providing insights for the optimal design of industrial closed-loop systems.

Integrated Sensing and Communication Driven Digital Twin for Intelligent Machine Network

Intelligent machines (IMs), including industrial machines, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and unmanned vehicles, etc., could perform effective cooperation in complex environment when they form IM network. The efficient environment sensing and communication are crucial for IM network, enabling the real-time and stable control of IMs. With the emergence of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology, IM network is empowered with ubiquitous sensing capabilities, which is helpful in improving the efficiency of communication and sensing with the mutual benefit of them. However, the massive amount of sensing information brings challenges for the processing, storage and application of sensing information. In this article, ISAC driven digital twin (DT) is proposed for IM network, and the architecture and enabling technologies are revealed. ISAC driven DT structurally stores the sensing information, which is further applied to optimize communication, networking and control schemes of IMs, promoting the widespread applications of IMs.

Modeling and Design of the Communication Sensing and Control Coupled Closed-Loop Industrial System

With the advent of 5G era, factories are transitioning towards wireless networks to break free from the limitations of wired networks. In 5G-enabled factories, unmanned automatic devices such as automated guided vehicles and robotic arms complete production tasks cooperatively through the periodic control loops. In such loops, the sensing data is generated by sensors, and transmitted to the control center through uplink wireless communications. The corresponding control commands are generated and sent back to the devices through downlink wireless communications. Since wireless communications, sensing and control are tightly coupled, there are big challenges on the modeling and design of such closed-loop systems. In particular, existing theoretical tools of these functionalities have different modelings and underlying assumptions, which make it difficult for them to collaborate with each other. Therefore, in this paper, an analytical closed-loop model is proposed, where the performances and resources of communication, sensing and control are deeply related. To achieve the optimal control performance, a co-design of communication resource allocation and control method is proposed, inspired by the model predictive control algorithm. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the relationships between the resources and control performances.

Spectrum Sharing Towards Delay Deterministic Wireless Network: Delay Performance Analysis

To accommodate Machine-type Communication (MTC) service, the wireless network needs to support low-delay and low-jitter data transmission, realizing delay deterministic wireless network. This paper analyzes the delay and jitter of the wireless network with and without spectrum sharing. When sharing the spectrum of the licensed network, the spectrum band of wireless network can be expanded, such that the delay and jitter of data transmission are reduced. The challenge of this research is to model the relation between the delay/jitter and the parameters such as node distribution, transmit power, and bandwidth, etc. To this end, this paper applies stochastic geometry and queueing theory to analyze the outage probability of the licensed network and the delay performance of the wireless network with and without spectrum sharing. By establishing the M/G/1 queueing model for the queueing of the Base Station (BS) in the wireless network, the downlink delay and jitter are derived. Monte Carlo simulation results show that the spectrum sharing reduces the delay and jitter without causing serious interference to the licensed network, which can lay a foundation for the application of spectrum sharing in delay deterministic wireless network supporting MTC service.

Integrated Sensing and Communication Neighbor Discovery for MANET with Gossip Mechanism

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET), supporting Machine-Type Communication(MTC), has a strong demand for rapid networking. Neighbor Discovery (ND) is a key initial step in configuring MANETs and faces a serious challenge in decreasing convergence time. Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), as one of the potential key technologies in the 6th Generation (6G) mobile networks, can obtain the sensing data as the priori information to accelerate ND convergence. In order to further reduce the convergence time of ND, this paper introduces the ISAC-enabled gossip mechanism into the ND algorithm. The prior information acquired by ISAC reduces the information redundancy brought by the gossip mechanism and thus decreases the probability of collision, which further improves convergence speed. The average number of discovered nodes within a given period is derived, which is applied as the critical metric to evaluate the performance of ND algorithms. The simulation results confirm the correctness of the theoretical derivation and show that the interplay between the prior mechanisms and the gossip mechanism significantly reduces the convergence time. In addition, to solve the problem of imperfect sensing information, reinforcement learning is applied. Under the constraints of the convergence condition, the non-Reply and non-Stop Algorithm based on Gossip and Q-learning (GQ-nRnS) proposed in this paper not only ensures the completeness of ND, but also maintains a high convergence speed of ND. Compared with the Q-learning-based ND algorithm (Q-ND), the average convergence time of the GQ-nRnS algorithm is reduced by about 66.4%.

Fast Neighbor Discovery for Wireless Ad Hoc Network with Successive Interference Cancellation

Neighbor discovery (ND) is a key step in wireless ad hoc network, which directly affects the efficiency of wireless networking. Improving the speed of ND has always been the goal of ND algorithms. The classical ND algorithms lose packets due to the collision of multiple packets, which greatly affects the speed of the ND algorithms. Traditional methods detect packet collision and implement retransmission when encountering packet loss. However, they does not solve the packet collision problem and the performance improvement of ND algorithms is limited. In this paper, the successive interference cancellation (SIC) technology is introduced into the ND algorithms to unpack multiple collision packets by distinguishing multiple packets in the power domain. Besides, the multi-packet reception (MPR) is further applied to reduce the probability of packet collision by distinguishing multiple received packets, thus further improving the speed of ND algorithms. Six ND algorithms, namely completely random algorithm (CRA), CRA based on SIC (CRA-SIC), CRA based on SIC and MPR (CRA-SIC-MPR), scan-based algorithm (SBA), SBA based on SIC (SBA-SIC), and SBA based on SIC and MPR (SBA-SIC-MPR), are theoretically analyzed and verified by simulation. The simulation results show that SIC and MPR reduce the ND time of SBA by 69.02% and CRA by 66.03% averagely.

Throughput of Hybrid UAV Networks with Scale-Free Topology

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) hold great potential to support a wide range of applications due to the high maneuverability and flexibility. Compared with single UAV, UAV swarm carries out tasks efficiently in harsh environment, where the network resilience is of vital importance to UAV swarm. The network topology has a fundamental impact on the resilience of UAV network. It is discovered that scale-free network topology, as a topology that exists widely in nature, has the ability to enhance the network resilience. Besides, increasing network throughput can enhance the efficiency of information interaction, improving the network resilience. Facing these facts, this paper studies the throughput of UAV Network with scale-free topology. Introducing the hybrid network structure combining both ad hoc transmission mode and cellular transmission mode into UAV Network, the throughput of UAV Network is improved compared with that of pure ad hoc UAV network. Furthermore, this work also investigates the optimal setting of the hop threshold for the selection of ad hoc or cellular transmission mode. It is discovered that the optimal hop threshold is related with the number of UAVs and the parameters of scale-free topology. This paper may motivate the application of hybrid network structure into UAV Network.

Forming Different Planetary Architectures . I . Formation Efficiency of Hot Jupites from High-eccentricity Mechanisms

Exoplanets discovered over the last decades have provided a new sample of giant exoplanets, hot Jupiters. For lack of enough materials in current locations of hot Jupiters, they are perceived to form outside snowline. Then, migrate to the locations observed through interactions with gas disks or high-eccentricity mechanisms. We examined the efficiencies of different high-eccentricity mechanisms to form hot Jupiters in near coplaner multi-planet systems. These mechanisms include planet-planet scattering, Kozai-Lidov mechanism, coplanar high-eccentricity migration, secular chaos, as well as other two new mechanisms we find in this work, which can produce hot Jupiters with high inclinations even retrograde. We find Kozai-Lidov mechanism plays the most important role in producing hot Jupiters among these mechanisms. Secular chaos is not the usual channel for the formation of hot Jupiters due to the lack of angular momentum deficit within 10^7 Tin (periods of the inner orbit). According to comparisons between the observations and simulations, we speculate that there are at least two populations of hot Jupiters. One population migrates into the boundary of tidal effects due to interactions with gas disk, such as ups And b, WASP-47 b and HIP 14810 b. These systems usually have at least two planets with lower eccentricities, and keep dynamical stable in compact orbital configurations. Another population forms through high-eccentricity mechanisms after the excitation of eccentricity due to dynamical instability. This kind of hot Jupiters usually has Jupiterlike companions in distant orbits with moderate or high eccentricities.

Eclipsing Binaries From the CSTAR Project at Dome A, Antarctica

The Chinese Small Telescope ARray (CSTAR) has observed an area around the Celestial South Pole at Dome A since 2008. About $20,000$ light curves in the i band were obtained lasting from March to July, 2008. The photometric precision achieves about 4 mmag at i = 7.5 and 20 mmag at i = 12 within a 30 s exposure time. These light curves are analyzed using Lomb--Scargle, Phase Dispersion Minimization, and Box Least Squares methods to search for periodic signals. False positives may appear as a variable signature caused by contaminating stars and the observation mode of CSTAR. Therefore the period and position of each variable candidate are checked to eliminate false positives. Eclipsing binaries are removed by visual inspection, frequency spectrum analysis and locally linear embedding technique. We identify 53 eclipsing binaries in the field of view of CSTAR, containing 24 detached binaries, 8 semi-detached binaries, 18 contact binaries, and 3 ellipsoidal variables. To derive the parameters of these binaries, we use the Eclipsing Binaries via Artificial Intelligence (EBAI) method. The primary and the secondary eclipse timing variations (ETVs) for semi-detached and contact systems are analyzed. Correlated primary and secondary ETVs confirmed by false alarm tests may indicate an unseen perturbing companion. Through ETV analysis, we identify two triple systems (CSTAR J084612.64-883342.9 and CSTAR J220502.55-895206.7). The orbital parameters of the third body in CSTAR J220502.55-895206.7 are derived using a simple dynamical model.

A search for eclipsing binaries that host discs

We search for systems hosting eclipsing discs using a complete sample of eclipsing binaries (EBs); those previously identified in the third phase of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE-III). Within a subsample of 2,823 high-cadence, high-photometric precision and large eclipsing depth detached EBs previously identified in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), we find that the skewness and kurtosis of the light curves magnitude distribution within the primary eclipse can distinguish EBs hosting a disc from those without. Two systems with previously identified eclipsing discs (OGLE-LMC-ECL-11893 and OGLE-LMC-ECL-17782) are identified with near zero skewness ($|S|<0.5$) and positive kurtosis. No additional eclipsing disc systems were found in the OGLE-III LMC, Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) or Galactic Disc (GD) EB light curves. We estimate that the fraction of detached near main-sequence LMC EBs (which have a primary with an $I$-band magnitude brighter than $\simeq 19\,\rm{mag}$) that host a disc is approximately 1/1000. As circumstellar disc lifetimes are short, we expected to primarily find eclipsing discs around young stars. In addition, as there is more room for a disc in a widely separated binary and because a disk close to a luminous star would be above the dust sublimation temperature, we expected to primarily find eclipsing discs in long period binaries. However, OGLE-LMC-ECL-17782 is a 13.3 day period B star system with a transient and hot ($\sim 6000\,\rm{K}$, $\sim 0.1\,\rm{AU}$ radius) disc and Scott et al. (in prep.) estimate an age of $150\,\rm{Myr}$ for OGLE-LMC-ECL-11893. Both discs are unexpected in the EB sample and impel explanation.

Planetary Transit Candidates in the CSTAR Field: Analysis of the 2008 Data

The Chinese Small Telescope ARray (CSTAR) is a group of four identical, fully automated, static 14.5 cm telescopes. CSTAR is located at Dome A, Antarctica and covers 20 square degree of sky around the South Celestial Pole. The installation is designed to provide high-cadence photometry for the purpose of monitoring the quality of the astronomical observing conditions at Dome A and detecting transiting exoplanets. CSTAR has been operational since 2008, and has taken a rich and high-precision photometric data set of 10,690 stars. In the first observing season, we obtained 291,911 qualified science frames with 20-second integrations in the i-band. Photometric precision reaches about 4 mmag at 20-second cadence at i=7.5, and is about 20 mmag at i=12. Using robust detection methods, ten promising exoplanet candidates were found. Four of these were found to be giants using spectroscopic follow-up. All of these transit candidates are presented here along with the discussion of their detailed properties as well as the follow-up observations.

Variability in the 2MASS Calibration Fields: A Search for Transient Obscuration Events

We searched the light curves of over 40000 stars in the 2MASS calibration database, spanning approximately 4 years, for objects that have significant day long dimming events. We also searched the multi-color light curves for red dimming events that could be due to transient extinction. In the color independent sigma-limited search, we found 46 previously unknown eclipsing binaries, 6 periodic variable stars likely to be intrinsic pulsators and 21 young stellar objects in the $ρ$ Ophiucus star formation region previously studied by Parks et al. 2013. An additional 11 objects exhibited dimming events and most of these are unclassified. The search for red dimming events primarily reveals a population of low luminosity active galaxies that become bluer when they are brighter, and variable young stellar objects exhibiting high cross-correlation coefficients between color and brightness. The young stellar objects exhibit brightness and color variations in the direction of interstellar extinction whereas the active galaxies can have a bowed distribution in color and magnitude with reduced variation in color when the object is brightest. Among the objects that are usually quiescent (not strongly variable), we failed to find any dimming events deeper than 0.2 magnitude and lasting longer than a day. Two of the least embedded young stellar objects, however, dimmed by 0.2 mag for longer than a day without strong color variation. Having failed to find new exotic objects, we explored ways to eliminate commonly found objects so that a larger number of objects may be searched. We find that all but one eclipsing binary are excluded by requiring moderate color variation during a dimming event and most of the active galaxies and young stellar objects are excluded by placing a limit on the standard deviation of the magnitude distribution in the light curve.
