SURGIN: SURrogate-guided Generative INversion for subsurface multiphase flow with quantified uncertainty

We present a direct inverse modeling method named SURGIN, a SURrogate-guided Generative INversion framework tailed for subsurface multiphase flow data assimilation. Unlike existing inversion methods that require adaptation for each new observational configuration, SURGIN features a zero-shot conditional generation capability, enabling real-time assimilation of unseen monitoring data without task-specific retraining. Specifically, SURGIN synergistically integrates a U-Net enhanced Fourier Neural Operator (U-FNO) surrogate with a score-based generative model (SGM), framing the conditional generation as a surrogate prediction-guidance process in a Bayesian perspective. Instead of directly learning the conditional generation of geological parameters, an unconditional SGM is first pretrained in a self-supervised manner to capture the geological prior, after which posterior sampling is performed by leveraging a differentiable U-FNO surrogate to enable efficient forward evaluations conditioned on unseen observations. Extensive numerical experiments demonstrate SURGIN's capability to decently infer heterogeneous geological fields and predict spatiotemporal flow dynamics with quantified uncertainty across diverse measurement settings. By unifying generative learning with surrogate-guided Bayesian inference, SURGIN establishes a new paradigm for inverse modeling and uncertainty quantification in parametric functional spaces.

Generative Latent Diffusion Model for Inverse Modeling and Uncertainty Analysis in Geological Carbon Sequestration

Geological Carbon Sequestration (GCS) has emerged as a promising strategy for mitigating global warming, yet its effectiveness heavily depends on accurately characterizing subsurface flow dynamics. The inherent geological uncertainty, stemming from limited observations and reservoir heterogeneity, poses significant challenges to predictive modeling. Existing methods for inverse modeling and uncertainty quantification are computationally intensive and lack generalizability, restricting their practical utility. Here, we introduce a Conditional Neural Field Latent Diffusion (CoNFiLD-geo) model, a generative framework for efficient and uncertainty-aware forward and inverse modeling of GCS processes. CoNFiLD-geo synergistically combines conditional neural field encoding with Bayesian conditional latent-space diffusion models, enabling zero-shot conditional generation of geomodels and reservoir responses across complex geometries and grid structures. The model is pretrained unconditionally in a self-supervised manner, followed by a Bayesian posterior sampling process, allowing for data assimilation for unseen/unobserved states without task-specific retraining. Comprehensive validation across synthetic and real-world GCS scenarios demonstrates CoNFiLD-geo's superior efficiency, generalization, scalability, and robustness. By enabling effective data assimilation, uncertainty quantification, and reliable forward modeling, CoNFiLD-geo significantly advances intelligent decision-making in geo-energy systems, supporting the transition toward a sustainable, net-zero carbon future.

FreqMamba: Viewing Mamba from a Frequency Perspective for Image Deraining

Images corrupted by rain streaks often lose vital frequency information for perception, and image deraining aims to solve this issue which relies on global and local degradation modeling. Recent studies have witnessed the effectiveness and efficiency of Mamba for perceiving global and local information based on its exploiting local correlation among patches, however, rarely attempts have been explored to extend it with frequency analysis for image deraining, limiting its ability to perceive global degradation that is relevant to frequency modeling (e.g. Fourier transform). In this paper, we propose FreqMamba, an effective and efficient paradigm that leverages the complementary between Mamba and frequency analysis for image deraining. The core of our method lies in extending Mamba with frequency analysis from two perspectives: extending it with frequency-band for exploiting frequency correlation, and connecting it with Fourier transform for global degradation modeling. Specifically, FreqMamba introduces complementary triple interaction structures including spatial Mamba, frequency band Mamba, and Fourier global modeling. Frequency band Mamba decomposes the image into sub-bands of different frequencies to allow 2D scanning from the frequency dimension. Furthermore, leveraging Mamba's unique data-dependent properties, we use rainy images at different scales to provide degradation priors to the network, thereby facilitating efficient training. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods both visually and quantitatively.

Anisotropic flow of Pb+Pb $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV from A Multi-Phase Transport Model

Anisotropic flow is an important observable in the study of the Quark-Gluon Plasma that is expected to be formed in heavy-ion collisions. With a multiphase transport (AMPT) model we investigate the elliptic($\emph{v}_{2}$), triangular($\emph{v}_{3}$), and quadrangular($\emph{v}_{4}$) flow of charged particles in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Then We compare our flow results with the published ALICE flow results. We found our AMPT simulated results are consistent with ALICE experimental data.

Anisotropic distributions in a multi-phase transport model

With A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model we investigate the relation between the magnitude, fluctuations and correlations of the initial state spatial anisotropy $\varepsilon_{n}$ and the final state anisotropic flow coefficients $v_{n}$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=$ 200 GeV. It is found that the relative eccentricity fluctuations in AMPT account for the observed elliptic flow fluctuations, in agreement with measurements of the STAR collaboration. In addition, the studies based on 2- and multi-particle correlations and event-by-event distributions of the anisotropies suggest that the Elliptic-Power function is a promising candidate of the underlying probability density function of the event-by-event distributions of $\varepsilon_{n}$ as well as $v_{n}$. Furthermore, the correlations between different order symmetry planes and harmonics in the initial coordinate space and final state momentum space are presented. Non-zero values of these correlations have been observed. The comparison between our calculations and data will, in the future, shed new insight into the nature of the fluctuations of the Quark-Gluon Plasma produced in heavy ion collisions.

Geometric projection-based switching policy for multiple energy harvesting transmitters

Transmitter switching can provide resiliency and robustness to a communication system with multiple energy harvesting transmitters. However, excessive transmitter switching will bring heavy control overhead. In this paper, a geometric projection-based transmitter switching policy is proposed for a communication system with multiple energy harvesting transmitters and one receiver, which can reduce the number of switches. The results show that the proposed transmitter switching policy outperforms several heuristic ones.
